I need more speed Scotty!

This is my second post so be gentle please.
I have some deadlines for videos coming up soon and the videos are 3.5, 3.0, 2.5, 2.5, 2.0, 2.0, 1.0 hours and 1 at 45 minutes. I need to deliver all of these by June 23rd and I thought that by buying a Dual 1.8 G5 using FCE HD, my saving times would be fast. But, there not. I am currently working on a save in QT 262 format, 45 minutes of video, working from a RAID and saving to the same RAID and this smallest of the videos is only 27% done and has an estimate of 9 hours.
I am new to the G5 and was hoping that the Dual 1.8 with 3.5GB RAM, 160GB and 250GB SATA drives and a HighPoint 2220 SATA RAID (300MB/s) card pushing 3x300GB 16MB cache (300MB/s) Seagate Barracudas in 0 RAID configuration would be just fine. What happened?
I am shooting from a Sony HRC-1 in HD 19:1 and capturing in the 19:1 as a standard DV and NOT HD. This video has no special effects at all. Shot straight from the camera to the timeline to the render to the export as a Quicktime 262 because I lost my MPEG 2 encoder when I went to QT7 and did not see the warnings about the encoder being deleted to make me buy another product that does not have the encoder also.
I actually feel that my eMac exports faster than this G5. Any suggestions? I am sure I have not given enough technical information to fully understand the problem or is this normal speed for my configuration?
How can I make it faster (and please do not say buy another computer)? Is FC Pro 4.5HD faster than PCE HD 3.0? Would it be better to have another, 2 or 5 SATA RAID drives added?
Thanks! Ken

Thanks for the information. I capture in iMovie because as soon as it captures, it will letterbox the clip for me and I then drag the clip into FCE HD. I have DVD Studio Pro, but it is the old version 1.5 from my first efforts of video. It served its purpose then but I realized it would not do what I needed now. I do have a Lacie External LightScribe DL burner (actually just put it inside my G5).
My weak points are getting the video into FCE as a widescreen video placed into a letterbox. I shot everything in the 19:6 ratio, but as DV from the HD camera. So the camera sends a wide format image in DV to my editing software. How do you get FCE HD to make everything Letterboxed?
From there I just want to save the image and tackle the next stage after knowing I can aleast make a DL DVD. I do own a stack of Pioneer DL DVD burners in an enclosure for burning in mass. I just do not know what steps to take anymore ... too many changes from simple DV for me at this time of the game.
I put up a post called "Work Flow Needed Please!" but there have been no takers.
I have 14 more tapes to capture and I need a proven way to capture with either iMovie or FCE HD and a way to letterbox each tape. Editing .. no problem, markers ... no problem, rendering or saving ... sometimes a problem. HELP

  • Need more speed

    Hello!
    My setup:
    - I'm using Aperture 2.1.4 on an iMac 3.06 GHz with 4GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 1 TB harddrive and Mac OS X 10.5.8.
    - Right now I have 8 Projects with 3.250 photos. The Aperture-Library - 3.62GB - is on the internal harddrive.
    - The originals are all RAW-files (from my Canon EOS 450D) and are stored on an external FireWire 800 iomega 2 TB drive. The folder containing the 8 sub-folders (coresponding to the projects) is 67.4GB.
    - I have about 820GB free on the internal harddrive and 1.82TB free on the external harddrive.
My problem: I need more speed while editing! Highlights recovering, levels adjusting, changing the saturation or contrast - only to name a few - are realy slow!
I've renounced to generate any previews, but I'm not very sure I see any diference in speed. I even close ALL my other apps while editing in Aperture!
What can I do to accelerate working with Aperture?
Do you think holding only the current photos in the Aperture-Library (managed while editing and referenced after this) will bring an increase in speed?
    Thank you for any advice!
    Regards,
    Vlad

It's hard to visualize without some sample data and the table definitions, but there's a chance this will work.  I'm assuming this isn't dynamic SQL, but multiple reports, each report with a version of this SQL?
    USE MyDB
    SELECT * FROM MyTable WHERE 1 = 1 AND Factor = '1' AND varVE = 'XYZ'
AND varS + varL + CONVERT(VARCHAR(100), aDate) IN
    (SELECT varS + varL + CONVERT(VARCHAR(100), aDate, 121) AS SLA FROM MyTable WHERE varD = 'val1' AND varE = 'val2' AND varC > 'val3'
UNION ALL SELECT varS + varL + CONVERT(VARCHAR(100), aDate, 121) AS SLA FROM MyTable WHERE varD = 'val4' AND varE = 'val5' AND varC < 'val6'
UNION ALL SELECT varS + varL + CONVERT(VARCHAR(100), aDate, 121) AS SLA FROM MyTable WHERE varD = 'val7' AND varE = 'val8' AND varC = 'val9'
UNION ALL SELECT varS + varL + CONVERT(VARCHAR(100), aDate, 121) AS SLA FROM MyTable WHERE varD = 'val10' AND varE = 'val11' AND varC LIKE '%val12%')
This should be somewhat faster, unless it's the last "LIKE '%VAL12%'" that's really the root cause of all the performance problems.
Provide some sample data and a little additional info, perhaps we can help more?
EDIT: Also, although I use it myself during the authoring/development phase of a query from time to time (where I have to make lots of changes to the WHERE clause on the fly), the "Where 1 = 1" should go away for real life production use.  (Even
though interestingly enough, the optimizer rarely seems to complain too much about it from a performance perspective, it's the SQL equivalent of forgetting to take the price tag off of a gift.. ;-)

  • Need more speed to my PC

I recently upgraded to Verizon Fios.  The house has coax wiring.  As part of the install they put an Actiontec MI424WR router in the upstairs office and a Cisco CHS435HDC DVR downstairs in the family.  As far as I can tell everything was working fine.
I started thinking now that I have hi speed internet maybe I should check out Pandora, Netflix and whatever else is available through my TV and AV receiver.  Since I had a wireless card lying around, I pop that into my computer. With the router next to the PC, the speed was fine.  When I moved the router down stairs the speed on the PC dropped significantly.  It’s never more than 7Mbps and it’s usually around 3 or 4 Mbps.  Up load speed are just under 5Mbps.  I tried every coax connection in the house and had similar results.  I also notice that the MoCA light in the ONT is flashing.
What do I need to do to get the 15Mbps as advertised on my computer and at the same time have access to Pandora and Netflix and similar items on my TV and receiver?

I also moved the computer down to the family room to see if the speed improved.  It worked very well when it was near the router.  So I figure the wiring is fine and that it is a WiFi issue.  Is there a relative easy and economical way to improve the speed up in the office?
You might want to investigate HomePNA powerline networking. This uses your home's existing in-wall electrical cabling to create a network. You can buy a two-piece transmitter/receiver kit for around $70. Plug one side in near the router in the family room, and the other side upstairs near the desktop computer. That should deliver full Ethernet speed--much faster than Wi-Fi--with no need to run new Ethernet cabling.

  • Power Mac G4 – need more speed!

    Hi
    Regarding: G4 100/BUS 400mhz AGP.
It now has 80GB @ 7200 hard-drive with existing 10GB @ 7200, 1.5Ghz 7455 processor and 1.5GB RAM – some might say an unnecessary expensive – but I now have a significant increase in speed.
    1. Can anyone suggest anything that I haven't considered for speed increase?
    2. Is there any way I can convert this mac to run SATA drives rather than ATA/IDEs?
I am also hoping to replace my bulky 17" display with a slim equivalent combining good resolution with great colour/print representation. Catch is, my budget: £200. Any thoughts on this?
    Can anyone help?

i have a similar setup, and asked a similar question recently...lots of helpful people around here...

i've opted to add a sata card (Firmtek-SeriTek) and a pair of 250GB WD Caviar SE16's (striped/RAID0) to expand my capacity and (hopefully) performance (the card + the 2 drives was approx $200 USD)
-i also added an updated video card (ATI Radeon 8500) a little while back, but that was so i could run quartz-extreme/openGL software, not necessarily for performance - i wouldnt have changed it otherwise.

  • The need for Speed - my setup

I have been using Lightroom since version 1 and have recently upgraded to version 3. As many have reported, version 3 needs more CPU speed for rendering so I have modified my workflow to get maximum speed.
Until recently I had a Dell M65 Notebook with a 2.16 GHz Core2 dual CPU and 3 GByte RAM. I was using Windows 7 x64. All my RAW files are on an external HD, connected with USB 2.0 to the notebook.
Upgrading to Lightroom 3 made everything too slow, as the CPU would stay at 100% for long times, like 10 seconds during edits.
Therefore, I upgraded to a Dell M4500 with a Core i7 CPU Q840 @ 1,87 GHz and 8GByte RAM. This CPU has 4 phyical cores, each supporting hyperthreading for a total of 8 logical cores. I am using Windows 7 x64.
On the new notebook, I have never had L2 installed.
The L3 Library is located on the internal Hard drive, together with all the previews. The RAW files are still on the external 2.5" USB 2.0 drive.
I upgraded by importing first the L3beta catalog and then L2 catalogs. I found a bug, which would crash L3 if the same photo was already in my L3 catalog as well as in a L2 catalog to be imported. I solved that problem by importing the L2 catalog first separately and then exporting parts of it to new L3 catalogs and then importing these parts to the main L3 catalog.
During import, I had the external drive holding all the photos attached to the notebook.
At this point, I had only the catalog in place, but no previews. I set the preview size in L3 to 2048pixels. It is important to set this value higher than the screen resolution. Otherwise, L3 will have to process the RAW files most of the time, making things very slow.
I once tried looking at the imported photos during import. That was not  a good idea as L3 went very slow and started swapping on the hard  drive. I had to stop import and restart L3 to regain speed. I assume  that L3 has some memory leak issues.
Now I opened one path on my external drive I wanted to work on. I noticed that when I opened a photo in the Library page, I would see the "Loading". After about 2-3 seconds for old (2003) photos and about 3 seconds for new (2010) photos, it would go away. This would of course not allow me to browse through at high speed. Therefore I selected all photos in one folder with new photos and asked L3 to make all the standard previews. L3 would start making them at a speed of about one every 1-2 seconds. Those photos were without any fancy stuff like adjustment brush. One thing I noticed was that the CPU load was between 25 and 50%, so L3 is not using all the available cores for this operation. Optimizing this process for many cores would give me a speed advantage of 2-3.
I have about 50k pictures in my library. Almost all of them RAW files.
The result is that I can now browse through the photos with a very low delay. If I select the next photo, I will see a low res version of it almost instintaniouosly, and the high res version after about half a second. If I go crazy and use the scroll wheel extensively and very fast, after some 5-10 or so photos, scrolling stops. At that point, I have to wait for the film strip at the bottom of the screen to update. Then I can continue. If I do not show the film strip, I can scroll a bit further, but there are still intermittent stops, where I have to wait for L3 to catch up. Still, even at the point where scrolling stops, I still get the hi res picture after about a second. It seems that the speed of the internal Hard drive is the limit here. If I need to scroll faster, I select the grid of pictures. There I can go even faster.
Zooming in to 1:1 forces the full resolution previews to be made. That takes about 3 seconds on my notebook. If I revisit the same photo later, I can zoom in and get the full res photo in about half a second.
I then tried to import some data from the CF cards. The import went smooth (although rather slow, but that was the same in L3b2) and I tried to look at the pictures during import. That was not a good idea, as L3 started using RAM excessively, the hard drive was working continously and everyting went very slow. I stopped the import and restarted L3. Apparently, there is a memory leak somewhere so I decided to adopt the following workflow:
Import the files for the Memory Card (I have a USB card reader)
Close L3 and restart (I skip the backup if asked by L3)
Select all newly imported pictures and generate the standard previews.
Close L3 and restart (I skip the backup if asked by L3)
Now I select what pictures I want to work on by by giving them the 1-5 stars.
Then I filter the 5 star pictures and move over to the Edit module
If I see the internal Hard drive working a lot during edits, I close L3 and restart.
Browsing in the Edit module is much slower than in the Library module.
Also, during edit, speed of operation is dependent on the resolution I look at. If I look at the photo zoomed out, I get to see the next picture after about 1/3 of a second, and have a waiting time of about 3 seconds the first time I open a picture until the "Loading" goes away. I can only assume that at this point, the 1:1 previews are made. If I go back to a previously edited photo, the time delay is about 1 second. If I close L3 and reopen, it takes 3 seconds again. During that time, all 8 cores are working, but only up to about 50%, so there is still room for improvment here.
Browsing zoomed in takes initially about 1 seconds extra. Returning to a photo zoomed in does not seem to cause any extra delay, though.
I always wait until "Loading" goes away before I try editing anything.  If I start immeditaly changing something, L3 becomes slow. Sometimes it  stays that way, and I have to restart to regain speed.
The Memory for Camera Raw is set at 1 GB, the default. I have not found any speed advantage setting it higher.
I use the adjustment brush a lot as well as red eye removal and gradients and I see no practical difference in rendering time when used. If I paint on the photo zoomed out, I see the result of the adjustement brush instintaniously during painting. Changes to the exposure etc. is also rendered with no visible delay.
Editing zoomed in to 1:1 is another story. If I use the adjustement brush, I have to wait about 3 seconds for anything tho happen after I made the first stroke. After that, the delay is reduced to about half a second. L3 does record the movement of the mouse correctly, but the update is much slower than if zoomed out. Changing the exposure dial is also rendered with about half a second delay. Therefore I try to do as many edits zoomed out as possible.
Looking at the memory consumption after a couple of hours of work, it seems that L3 needs several GBytes of RAM to be happy. When I close L3, about 3 GBytes are freed.
Hope this can be of some help. Questions and Comments are wellcome.
    Best regards,
    Bengt

Setting Lightroom's preview size to larger than screen resolution is guaranteed to slow things down. I have a dual monitor system whith Lightroom showing the loupe on one screen and the grid on the other. The screen sizes are 1920x1080 and 2560x1440. Following your practice for previews would bring my system to a crawl and I have an entry level workstation. All my previews are of standard 1024x768 in size. The only delays in viewing come when Lightroom is asked to display an image where there is no preview. Once the preview has been created, browsing is near instantaneous.
I beg to differ! The reason is that a preview can be used for any size, which is smaller than that of the preview. Scaling down a preview can be done with little or not loss in quality compared to getting the full resulution and scale that down. Scaling up is not possible.
In your case, you will not use the previews of 1024x768 at all for full screen display. Instead you will force L3 to create bigger previews the first time you open the photo. You could try this by generating the standard previews for new imported photos before you start browsing. Then try to browse. You will probably get the "Loading" message, which indicates that the preview was not used and another one with higher resolution will be made. Then try the same experiment, setting the size of the standard preview to 2048. If, and only if, the size of your display area is not more than 2048 pixels wide and you display a photo in lanscape orientation, you will be able to browse without delay after generating the standard previews.
If I understand your setup correctly, you display the photos in a window of 2560x1440 pixels. I suspect that only 1:1 previews could be used for that. I think Adobe should increase the maximum size of the previews to a value larger than 2048, so that you are not forced to use only the 1:1 previews.
I agree, that when the previews have been generated, browsing is near instantaneous.

    Pro Tools 10.3.7
    Interface Apollo 16
Pro Tools is curretnly not compatible with Maverick.   Also, I believe that Pro Tools 10 only allows 4GB ram to be utilized (not sure )
I know Pro Tools 11 allows more, but not sure how much more.  Also not sure if the upgrade to Pro Tools 11 I will have to purchase all new plug ins or if my existing ones will continue to work in it.
The platform changes from 32 bit to 64 with the upgrade to 11
If it is as simple as adding more ram, what mode-part #l would you recomeend.  Can the processor be upgraded also ?
The new tube like Macs are non compatible with UAD Cards.  Those cards a must my sessions

You can use Activity Monitor to check if apps run as 32 or 64 bit - simply look at the "Kind" column (you may need to select it under View -> Columns) and see if the app in question is listed as "Intel" i.e. 32 bit or as "Intel (64 bit)".
While in Activity Monitor you can also check if Pro Tools is close to the 3-4 GB limit of a 32 bit app - if you aren't you will probably not benefit from more RAM.
Your MacPro (it appears to be a Early 2009 model) should have come with a small booklet showing how to install RAM and what kind of RAM that you need. Any RAM that fulfills the requirements should work but your safest choice is probably to buy from a retailer/online store that supports Macs as they will usually know what kind of RAM you need for your mac model.
Upgrading the CPUs should be possible, but I haven't seen Apple document how to do this, so you will probably have to google around a bit to find instructions and CPU part numbers.
Your choice of CPUs will also be limited by the motherboard and CPU socket so you may be limited to faster version of your current CPU chip and some slightly newer versions.
Going from your current CPU to the fastest version included in the 2009 MacPros would be going from 2.26 GHz to 2.93 GHz. This would only give a modest 30% speed boost. Using newer and highly clocked CPUs might boost this somewhat more maybe to 50% ?

  • Need more detail description on BIOS voltage

I am using DKA790GX Platinum with AMD X4 940, and I did some Overclocking and now I need more detail on those BIOS Voltage setting:
    CPU VDD Voltage?

    CPU Voltage?
    CPU-NB Voltage?
    DRAM Voltage?
    NB Voltage?
    HT Link Voltage?
    MCT Voltage?
    Also,
What is the difference between CPU Ratio and CPU-NB Ratio?

I'm not familiar with what MCP or MCT voltage is, but I think it's an nvidea thing.
    here's a few tips that I've found on oc'ing the 790gx platinum:
    Disable Cool & Quiet & C1E.
    Disable Spread Spectrum.
Enable HPET.  (High Precision Event Timer)
Don't enable the OC option for the onboard graphics. (Should'nt be a problem for your system, since your have an Nvidea GFX card)
I seem to get better results with ACC Disabled, but others have reported some benefit from it set to auto or in the + range.
You may find that bumping up the CPU-NB voltage a little bit may help, but it's dependant on cpu voltage too.
Keep your NB and HT speeds close to stock by reducing their multipliers as needed, OC'ing them won't give you any better performance and it can cause a lot of uneeded problems.
As you start to OC your system, only increase voltages as you neeed to, otherwise leave them on auto or at their recommended settings.
Be sure you start with a completely stable system, Memtest & Prime 95 are your friends (see stickies)! and check your system stability as you go.
Watch your system temperatures, and know the recommended temperature limits for your components. (processor, northbridge, gfx card, etc.
    Good luck and have fun!

  • Need more memory?

My computer is running very slow & I've been told I need more memory. How do I know what to buy and where to get it? Also, how do I install it, or do I have to get it done somewhere?

This HP support document should tell you everything you need to know about upgrading your memory on a desktop computer.
However, before you spend time and money adding memory, you might want to try the tips and tricks in this document: Improving System Performance without Adding Memory (Windows 7). It offers some very useful techniques for speeding up your system. • Need For Speed: Carbon & Intel iMac 2.8 GHz

    Hello All,
I just bought *Need For Speed: Carbon*. I thought I met the requirements, but some other forumes discuss the ATI card may not be enough for the game. The game gives me the error "Cannot locate the DVD-ROM", although it is clearly inserted. I followed the instructions exactly, installed it onto my iMac, and then typed in the CD Key provided on the booklet.
*My Apple iMac* from 2007 has 2.8 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, with 2GB DDR2 SDRAM. 800MHz Bus Speed and L2 cache of 4 MB. I am using an _ATI Radeon HD2600_ graphics card. I am running Mac OSX 10.5.7.
*Need For Speed: Carbon's* requirements for the game are Mac OSX 10.4.9 or higher, 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or faster, 512 MB RAM or more, 8x or faster DVD-ROM drive, 5.3 GB or more free space on HDD, and finally video cards Nvidia (7300 or better), *ATI (X1600 or better)* +Note: GMA950 integrated graphics adapter is not supported.+

  • How can I give more speed to the Imac working with yosemite

    Hello!
I just upgraded my software to yosemite and everything works fine except that the system has become much slower in general. as you can give more speed work to Imac in Yosemite?
    Thnks

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Does my iMac need more RAM?

I have a 4-year old iMac 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM currently running OS 10.8.2.  I'm wondering if I should add more RAM.  Is there software that will tell me if I need more RAM?  I have no idea how much memory is required for the System, or applications like MSWord, Safari, Firefox, MSExcel, or iPhoto when I am using them.

Below is my model information.  I have just looked at OWC memory and their video for installation; is OWC something you would recommend?

OK, This is in specific to Ceroberts75 and maybe also others... After People have reported some improvements in smoother and faster working of their N900 after the PR 1.3 update. The Need for speed Tips that Ceroberts75 has posted in his topic " Top 12 Maemo Issues and Fixes that Ceroberts" After the PR 1.3 update is it still required ?
Following those tips for Need for speed, is it gonna make the device even more faster and smoother even after the PR 1.3 Update. is it still required after PR 1.3 update ?

dont worry about it.  it is not going to hurt your device....
but if you still feel like there is a little monster lurking around the corner that is going to get you, then when you uninstall the swappolube, it will automatically go back to stock settings.
this is the same for the transition control.
as for the speed and which one you should use....that kernel that you installed, enhanced kernel....  all the different speeds are fine. i have 2 units locked at 1.15ghz since it came out and prior to that, at 900mhz.  i have yet to see anything bad happen, ie-phone catching on fire or burning my face, or discoloring my elppa casing...oops...was that my outside typing fingers?  anyway...i would not have put it up there if  it wasnt safe to do so.
have fun with it...you will not hurt your device doing so.
    Hey Ceroberts75,
Sorry if I am asking you this again, But I am still not really satisfied. I am OK with Swappolube, But I want to delete this events.d.folder that it created when I accidentally also clicked on the store Tab (pls check the screenshot). How do I delete events.d.folder. I checked my entire phone I could not find it anywhere where has it gone and is hiding.
I am ok with Swappolube but I don’t want the events.d.folder to store anything.
is the events.d.folder associated with Swappolube? So if I uninstall swappolube will it also go away with swappolube !!
