I need PC laptop to use printer plugged in to Mac

The PC is using the same wireless router as the Mac. Do I create a network on the PC (which runs Vista and has Bonjour) or on the Mac – and how?

Well, something is wrong here. You say you have Bonjour for Windows installed, but you can't find the printer setup wizard. Either it's there, in which case you should use it, or it's not there, in which case you have a faulty installation and should reinstall.
As for sharing via SMB, I don't know any more than what's in that technical bulletin. If it doesn't work, you'll have to get advice from someone who knows more than I do about Windows, which is nothing.

Hello stacksofamber and welcome to Apple Support Communities,
You should be able to find a Mac OSX driver for that printer. Did you check with the manufacturer/'s website?

  • Trying to get laptop to use printer hooked up to my PC.

i have a Hp pavilion g7-1227nr laptop and a HP photosmart C5580 printer. i have downloaded every HP solution for the printer but nothing will let me print from my laptop (wireless)  to the printer that is hooked up to my PC. Both of my children have HP laptops and they cannot get their laptops to print to the printer either. Any suggestions?

    Hi sonewald1,
hope you are doing well and sorry to learn that you are having this issue.
Have you shared the  printer in your network? you have to do this in order to be able to use the printer from other computers unless you have a router that is capable of been used as a printer server which you can check on your router's owner manual.
    Follow this;
Click on Start in the bottom left corner of your screen. A popup list will appear.
Select Control Panel from the popup list. Type the word network in the search box.
Click on Network and Sharing Center.
Click on Change advanced shared settings, in the left pane.
Click on the down arrow, which will expand the network profile.
Select File and printer sharing and choose Turn on file and printer sharing.
    Click on Save changes.
You're now ready to share your printer.
Click on Start in the bottom left corner of your screen. A popup list will appear.
Click on Devices and Printers, from the popup list.
Right click the printer you want to share. A dropdown list will appear.
Select Printer properties from the dropdown list.
    Click on the Sharing tab
Select the Share this printer check box.
In order for other people to connect to the printer, they just have to add the network printer that you just opened for sharing to their computers. Here's how to do this.
Click on Start in the bottom left corner of your screen. A popup list will appear.
Click on Devices and Printers from the popup list.
    Select Add a printer.
Click on Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.
    Click the shared printer.
Click Next. Continue according to the instructions on the screen [source: Microsoft].
     Hope it helps;

  • I cannot pick up Wi Fi in the area of my house that is my office. For a windows laptop I use a plug in (to the mains electric)  booster which connects via the USB port. This will not work on MacbookPro as the USB will not recognise it. Why is this?

Do I need the ethernet to thunderbolt adapter available at £25 from apple store? Will this work?

Hi -before you go buying new cables, I would ask, is your booster only designed for Windows computers or does it have also have an installation setup with drivers for Macs - this could be why the Mac doesn't recognize it.

NOTE: if you upgrade to Mavericks you'll have to purchase iPhoto 9.5.1 from the App Store as your current version does not qualify for a free upgrade.

  • I need to deny the use of usb devices on MACs and Macboks for non admin users. Can this be done?

I am new to MACs and have been tasked with providing new users with Macs and MacBooks. I have been told that the CIO does not want the users to be able to transfer data from the machines to any devices via the usb port, but to allow the support staff the use of the same usb ports.
I thought of just changing permissions and allow only the administrators access, but am not sure if this would work.
Help!! lol... I need to do this "YESTERDAY" as my CIO would put it.
    Thanks for your help!

Your CIO is asking the wrong question. What about FireWire ports? What about AirDrop? However, if you need to go through the motions of placating him, search for "Removing USB Support Software" in this document:

  • Need tablet recommendation for use with CS6 and a Mac Mini

    Hello all,
I'm running CS6 on a Mac MIni with OS X 10.8.3.  I want to start learning graphic design entry on Illustrator and Photoshop and all I've read indicates use of a tablet is de rigueur.  Can anyone recommend a medium to top-end tablet that is compatible with the Mac Mini and CS6?  Apple's site only shows the Wacom Bamboo Splash tablet but doesn't give any hint whether it would work with the Adobe tools.
    Thanks,
    Kevin H.

Actually it depends on how you like to work and what exactly you're after.
Illustrator can be used with a mouse only when you do just construction work, like using the shape tools, the pen tool, pathfinder functions, transformations and all those other tools that serve the need for exact results.
In case you'd like to draw stuff intuitively like doing water color, calligraphy,  sketching then you would definitely need a tablet.
A tablet can also replace a mouse in case you want to reduce a strain on your hand, arm and fingers. Some people prefer styluses in this case.
Is any of these the case for you?

  • I need some advice about using Leopard on a Power Mac G5

I purchased a Power Mac G5 (Dual 2.3) in 2006. I have 2 internal hard drives and am currently running Tiger and Leopard. Some of my current apps that are outdated don't run on Leopard (such as Office 2004). I am thinking about switching over completely to Leopard, so I would have to upgrade my remaining apps that need to be updated.
Is it worth it? Does Leopard (and modern applications) run smoothly on a G5 or are those really intended for Intel Macs? Would it be better for me as a PowerPC user to just stick with Tiger? Are the versions of iTunes and QuickTime available in Leopard the same available in Tiger?
I really don't need Classic anymore, so that's not holding my back. But I don't want to spend the money to upgrade my applications if they aren't going to work that well on a G5 anyway.

Actually, Office 2004 runs just fine on Leopard. That's what I'm running now, and I have no intention on going to Office 2008.
I feel that Leopard runs smoothly on the G5. I've not really seen any issues with it as of yet.
iTunes and QuickTime are the same version number under Leopard as they are under Tiger. However, there is a different download of QuickTime depending on if you're on Tiger or Leopard.
What other applications are you using that you think you may need to upgrade?

I just purchased Adobe Acrobat Standard DC andf upgraded from Acrobat XI. When I instalkled it on my PC the print Production Tools were there and functional. I installed it on my Laptop and those tolls are not there. What do I need to do to have Print Production Tools on both computers?

This is quite odd. I wonder if you could try something for me on EACH computer.
Use Help > About Adobe Acrobat DC.
At the top of the box it should say Adobe Acrobat Pro DC or Adobe Acrobat Standard DC.
On each of the two machines, what does it say? (I think something odd has happened)

  • Need help connecting to network printer using xfce and cups

    Hello
please can someone assist me with setting up a printer.
I am running arch and xfce desktop.
I have an Epson Stylus Photo R800 USB printer connected to a wireless Belkin all-in-one Print Server.
I do not know how to connect to this printer.
I am not conversant in CUPS or network printing and would very much like to use the printer.
My arch box is connected through cable to a wireless router.
The print server is connected to the wireless router and the router confirms the print server is attached to the network.
The print server IP address is 192.168.0.100.
The printer server has a web interface which I used to set wireless and TCP settings. I should say that I went into this interface and configured the print server which is totally usable and fine from a Vista laptop using wireless - vista laptop "sees" the print server and prints over wireless, therefore I know the server and printer are working together and all the print server settings are fine. I dont know how Vista connects, it just does!
I tried installing gutenprint and foomatic, went into the CUPS server page (localhost:631) and found my printer but I'm not sure if my connection string (socket://192.168.0.100:9100) is correct. I've tried several values and several Epson drivers from the CUPS web interface, all to no avail. I just get this message:
    bash-3.2# lpstat -t
    scheduler is running
    system default destination: Epson
    device for Epson: socket://192.168.0.100:9100

printer Epson now printing Epson-0. enabled since Sat 26 Jul 2008 22:53:35 BST
    /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstoraster failed
I have no desire to be a CUPS expert nor a networking expert - I was rather hoping someone could guide me through the process, I have tried reading web links (google) but do not understand various pages and instructions.

    EDIT:
    SOLVED!
the problem was that gutenprint needed to be installed.
I looked at the rastertops file in /usr/lib/cups/filter and it was very small, handfull of lines, but refered to gutenprint (whatever that is).
"pacman -Q gutenprint" revealed it was not installed.
    All is fine now.
    GREAT!

  • Printer plug to big for mac laptop

I have an old printer that I want to print with my mac book.  Is there an extention I can purchase so I can plug my laptop to old printer?

Without knowing what the make and model the printer is, as well as what the cable you're currently using looks like, how would you expect anyone here to be able to tell.

I don't see anything in Help that shows when you already have transfered all the files over.  Why would it want to erase and sync when I already have all the music folder copied over?  I didn't have an issue when I had another technician copy from one laptop to another.  Home sharing is also on but not being recognized.

I suspect you only migrated the media folder instead of the complete working library. Either review the transfer process and copy over the entire iTunes folder from your old profile's music folder or see Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

If you have not already done so, your chances will really improve if you....
    1) Connect the printer to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme
    2) Download and install Bonjour Print Services for Windows on the PC
