I need some advanced help regarding AE and PPRO workflow

Hi all.
I have a problem and require a solution. I am creating a video that has cellphone/IM chat graphics, animated in After Effects. The problem is the layering.
In PPRO, the layers are as follows on the timeline.
Top layer: Chat Graphics
Middle Layer: Adjustment layer with colour grade effects
Bottom Layer: Footage
Now the issue I am having is that I need the chat graphics to cast a Gaussian Blur underneath them (the graphics are at 80% opacity) - and I have successfully done this using the AE Adjustment Layer switch, however since the graphics are in AE, and the footage is in Premiere, they blur does not appear. In other words, the graphics in AE are set to blur the layer below itself IN AE, but the footage layer below is IN PPRO.
So... one might think that the obvious solution is to layer it all in AE, using the Replace with AE Composition option in PPRO. However, this means that the adjustment layer for the grade will affect the chat graphics which need to be consistent.
Help...

Just to report back - The Track Matte Key effect worked like a charm.
Just had to create two extra layers in PPro.
One duplicate layer of blurred footage. One duplicate layer of graphics to become the matte, on top of the footage layer.
The effect of Gaussian Blur and Track Matte Key was applied on the footage layer.

Need some beginner help on formatting and images

Just getting started with ID so am going through the learning process and could use a little help getting past some of the road bumps.
Are ID character and paragraph styles similar in use and effect as those in Word? In other words, are there important differences in when to use text styles and paragraph styles? Do they cascade? Did I make a mistake by setting up two styles, one character and one paragraph, and applying them to a paragraph? Is there a good practice anywhere where you don't use a paragraph style to set character styling but instead use a character style and a paragraph style together?
Get the idea? I'm looking for sort of an ID styling 101.

No Style is not a style. It is a lack of style. It exists in the list of
styles because there has to be something there to choose from when you
choose to base a style on nothing, or when you want to *not* apply a
paragraph style to a paragraph. When you don't want any style, you want
no style (hence the name). The only time I deliberately apply No Style
to a paragraph is when I want to "lock down" the formatting so that it
won't change if I change a style (because No Style has no definition to
change).
Basic Paragraph is a special style that can't be deleted from the list
of styles. For my books, I like to make a text style, give it a name
like "text", and then base everything on that. As far as I can tell, the
danger in basing everything on Basic Paragraph is simply that you may
have it defined differently in another document and if you copy material
from one document to another, everything will change (because everything
is based on Basic Paragraph and Basic Paragraph is defined differently).
Again, as far as I can tell, this is no different than having two
documents, both basing everything on a style called "text" and defining
"text" differently in those two documents. Either way, if you copy
styled text from one document to another, you may see changes if the
style exists in both documents and is defined differently.
Your particular workflow depends mostly on the people you're working
with. It's certainly possible to set up a Word template containing all
the styles your writers will need and then tell them to use them. Then
you won't have to do anything except Place the Word file. My experience,
though, is that 99% of Word users don't even know styles exist, so this
may require some education...
In my workflow, I almost always get Word files after they've been
written (and usually formatted to death). I Place Word files, keeping
formatting, and then search and replace the formatting that I want to
keep for styles and then select all and Clear Overrides. This way I get
to keep the author's hard work but dump all the garbage the author
introduced.

Definately Gonna Need Some Advanced Help Here...

Hey guys, I've had an iPod video for about a year now with minimal problems, but all of a sudden it messed up. The screen just shows random lines and different shapes in different colors, but when I move the click wheel, I can still here that clicking sound thingy that it makes. I've already tried resetting and restoring my iPod and neither has worked. Please someone help me. I NEED MY MUSIC!!!

They will repair the iPod if there does not appear to be accidental damage. If the iPod itself does not have a crack on the LCD screen on the front, perhaps it was the inner screen. (If that makes any sense.) Sometimes, if the inner screen breaks you will see shapes with colors and such as you mentioned.
Are you within the 1st year of owning the iPod? If you are, I'd recommend setting up for a repair (as long as it wasn't caused by accidental damage (as mentioned by Johnathan Burger).

Need some basic help with Acrobat and LiveCycle

This is my first time using Acrobat and LiveCycle to design a form. Basically all I need is a title that is uneditable and underneath that I want to insert a text box so people can type in the box then print off the whole page with their comments. I can do all of that except the problem is when I insert the text box, the cursor is left justified but appears in the middle of the textbox. So when people start typing, there is a huge gap between the title and what they've typed. I want their typing to appear directly under the title. What am I doing wrong? See attached for a visual explanation. Thanks.

You can have the text in the field top jusitied. This is controlled on the Font palette. Turn on the Font palette under the window menu. It usually will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. Now highlight the field you want to adjust. Make usre the paragraph tab is slected. Click on the small dropdown arrow indictaed in yellow in the screen shot and select "Edit Value". Now click the top justification as indicated by the arroe in the csreen shot.

Need some urgent help // Streaming windows and Mac Pro

HI ,
I have a nice "issue" here.
At present I am in a project.
We save the video images and sound by capture in FCP PRO with Mac Intel. Ans next to that using a Windows PC to stream live to internet.
We send the video by using a converter from analog to digital using S-video in and out Firewire. (from the converter).
After the converter we send the the firewire signal to a belkin hub to distribute to Mac and PC.
Evenrything goes fine. But the MAc responds to the PC and the Mac to the PC . When the PC blocks (the image for streaming) the Mac stops capturing. When I (the Mac) cancel capturing the PC stops streaming
PLease assist if you can .. how to handle. we guess that the hub creates the issues ...
Should we use a more link switch ? like a network switch ?

Our video runs through a video switcher which then outputs the signal to a PC (live streaming) and into a DRS-11 DV deck for recording as well as converting to FW which goes into the Mac for a live capture (redundancy) as well.

Yar, you want deal with the VIDEO, not the data stream, which is what you get on FW.
Use a video/audio distribution amplifier to send duplicate versions of your program video and audio content to two or more different encoding/processing systems.
Your boss/clients are not going to understand the technical requirements if they're Web geeks. Try this: If you want two copies of the same book, you don't use a copier. You buy two copies from the printer. You can't use a copier to distribute copies of a book in real time; each page has to be scanned and copied, one at a time, and they have to be collated separately. Anything that interrupts the process, like pulling out the stacks to staple them into, say, chapters (or insert your own metaphor here), causes the copier to stop since it can no longer knows the collation is correct.

Need some quick help - fairly urgent!

I've just taken over a new job and have been the task of finishing the new brochure for Christmas, there's not a lot to do but a lot of the measurements need changing
This is the layout I'm dealing with..
All the boxes have been made in Illustrator
The text has been done in In'Design and it seems every piece of text is it's own box if that makes sense
My question is, if I select the whole specification box - copy, paste it into Adobe Illustrator and change the text there, then paste the edited box back into In-Design, will I lose quality when it gets printed?
I'm worried if I do it this way it may come out blurred? Or am I just worrying about nothing?

I couldn't find an Illy file in the end and have ended up creating tables in ID to replicate what was already there!
Didn't take very long and I guess if I didn't do it now, I'd come across the same situation next time!

There certainly are viable "quick fix" solutions proposed here, and if the dealine is looming and this file never needs to be touched again I might be tempted, but they are only postponing the pain for a file that needs periodic updates, and I wouldn't waste effort on them, myself, when that time can be put toward a proper rebuild now if that's the ultimate goal.

In pages you can only have one orientation of the Page. You have to rotate the content on the pages that you want horizontal. Save the document in Pages format so you'll have a original version to work on. Then Export to or Print to PDF and open the document in Preview. Here you can rotate the pages to horizontal viewing.

Replaced zd8000 motherboard and need some troubleshooting help please............

I just replaced the motherboard on our HP zd8000 (pentium 4, 3.0ghz, 2gb ram, Win XP) with a used but tested good MB and need some help with the following.
1) I now cannot play DVD movies as the error no "dvd decoder" present which was not an issue before? Where can I go to get a free decoder that will work, as Windows only shows paid versions? We have the dvd burner/reader with lightscribe. SOLVED! CNET HAD DECODER.
2) The internal temperature, according to SpeedFan, is running around 140 degrees with just some Internet browsing. Is that a normal temperature because I only have one of three fans running on the laptop? Is there anyway of making all three fans run to be sure there are no issues? I am positive I hooked up everything but again only one fan seems to be running?
3) I discovered some of the pins were damaged in the card reader. I may get the Seller to give me a discount, no intention of tearing it apart simply for that, but is there any concern of short or otherwise?
4) Our battery stopped charging years ago, these were notorious for such, but I purchased a new one last year and hoped the replacement MB would allow charging again. No such luck though. Is there anything I can do, BIOS update etc, to make the battery charge?
5) Anything you folks can think of for me to test to insure the new motherboard is working properly?

P.S. This was a correct replacement board according to MB serial numbers. Everything else seems to be functioning properly other than mentioned. Our graphics went out on the original MB.

Some of the wires had pushed out of the harness that connected the other two fans. I double checked and re-attached those so now the laptop is running quite a bit cooler.

My ipod is majorly screwed up and i need some serious help

k well lets see
error states 'can't mount ipod'
so i tried checking all the wires, restoring the ipod (which didnt work because it couldnt find it) and i scanned all my files for viruses.
my ipod also makes funny clicking noises when i dont even touch it...
im just a kid guys.. i need some serious ipod whizz to help me out.. im desperate! ive tried everything

Need some assistance in binary streaming and reading

altough I studied the examples delivered with LabView (my current version is 6i) I have some challenges to face and I hope someone could help me. This challenges
may be simple for professionals but I'm not already that experienced. I have an one channel AI input via a DAQ-card (E-series) and I want to write it to a binary file with only the really necessary headers. The data then stored in the binary shall than be displayed after user request to a graph and my client wants to have the possibility to srcoll through the hole stored data to seek some charakteristiks and then mark the area of interest with cursor to move this area to another graph for further analysis. My program is structured in a way that in a whi
le loop I wait for user interaction i.e. buttons for saving and displaying data. It's for that, that I think I have to split the binary streaming in a sub-Vi that makes the needed preparation and another sub-Vi assosiated to the first that makes the file writuing and thats placed within the loop described above. Maybe I'm with my thoughts on the woodway and someone has better ideas. I tried many things but the result were always frustrating. I would be glad someone could give me some hints based on experience, and not just saying "Look to the delivered examples" as I already read in questions from other users. Thanks for your support.

I think you're going at this in a good way. One issue I see is that you are using version 6i and waiting for user input. Since Event Structures were not available in 6i, you will have to poll for user input and that could make your application slower. An upgrade to 6.1 would help you there.
Besides that, I like your ideas. If you're sticking with 6i, use a case structure inside your while loop which executes a particular case based upon which button the user pressed. Then, in these cases, call the subVIs which you built. I hope this helps out.
