I need some Applescript help with numbers

Question

I am trying to automate some share price data calculations from delimited text files I download from my online broker service. I am having trouble getting past first base.
I can open the files, delete columns and rows but something is wrong with my syntax for getting values from cells so I can perform some calculations and put the results back where I want them.
Here's my test script. It compiles and runs fine up to "set FirstCell to cell 1 of row 1" then it returns a try error.
Hope someone can set me straight.

Think that a cell is a complex structure: a value, a background, borders …
Look at this screenshot :
It appear clearly that value is just a small subset of what is a cell.
