I need some help for an explanation. Loop for 1 minute.

Question

          int minute=1;
          long currentTime=System.currentTimeMillis();          
          long stoppingTime = currentTime + (minute * 60 * 1000);
          while (currentTime<stoppingTime) {
               // do x;
               currentTime=System.currentTimeMillis();
          }I want to have the loop to run for 1 minute. It does not seem to work.
What did I miss? I need some help for an explanation.
