When people send me a PPS file on the internet it does not have any sound.... Help !!

I occasionally receive .pps or .ppt files from my mother but usually can't hear any sound when playing these slide shows. Most recently, I took the same inaudible presentation she sent me, renamed the file and sent it back to her and the music accompanying the renamed slide show played fine for her. Any idea what's going on?? My mother does not create these files but just forwards them along to me. She uses a Windows XP machine and I use a Mac if that makes any difference.

I'm having the same problem. Evidently, the Mac does not include
whatever application plays the music that accompanies a .pps file.
I visited my local Apple store, but nobody was able to help.
Very disappointing and frustrating.

Thanks for your Blog.
The same java mapping is been used in my current system, but the legacy system cannot read
some emails as they are asking us to send the email in MIME format.
Already i am sending in MIME format itself.
They can read some Emails and they cannot ream some Emails.
I think the problem could be their exchange server.
Can you please suggest on this.

Music of imported pps files doesn't sound on Keynote

I got Keynote on my Ipad, and when I import pps files, its music doesn't sound. It's very strange because the same file, I open it in powerpoint in my mac and it works fine, the musics perfect. So what's the problem? Can i do something on my mac to get this pps file to work with music on my iPad keynote?

How could I NOT import them? Appointments I do "by hand" show up immediately on the other devices. The imported appointments show up after modification.

I need to stop the sound in an .flv file I'm streaming

Is there any param value... or anything else I can use to stop the sound in an .flv file I'm streaming from the server?
I do not have the original video that the flv was created with... otherwise this would be a no brainer.
I want to keep the video up but take away the sound. Thanks much!

AFAIK there's nothing in the server side API that would support that. You can, on the client side use NetStream.receiveAudio(false), but that won't prevent the server from serving audio... it just stops a particular client from subscribing to the audio
Alternately, you can use FFMPEG to strip the audio channels out of the FLV.

Problem in opening ".pps" file from jsp

My ".pps" file is on server i want to open this file on client side in microsoft office or inside IE.
But right now all other types of file are opening except ".pps".

I am using plane link to open the file. No streaming is used.OK, then it's certainly a client-side problem. The client simply doesn't recognize the file type and/or it has no application associated with the filetype. No need to worry about it at the server side.
And i don't know how to set accociation on client side. Windows explorer � Tools � Map options � File types.

Hi Bill,
It sounds like your document has a lot of pages and/or images in it.
Instead of using the normal InDesign > Export command to create a PDF, you may be able to reduce the file size by printing to a PostScript file, then distilling it to PDF using Acrobat Distiller.

If you just bought iMac it should come with Pages and a demo copy of Office which may need to be register to get it to work.

Opening PPT/PPS files

I'm looking for a solution to open PPT/PPS files.
I *don't* want to use LibreOffice (and even less MS Office with wine).
I've been googling for some app that converts PPS -> PDF, since I don't mind creating a short script to let me see and PP{S,T} with any PDF viewer.
Anyway, either a script to convert-and-open, or some other alternate application will do, but I want to get rid of libreoffice (hence, jodconverter is discarted too, since it depends on openoffice).
Any ideas? The "lightweight applications" wiki entry doesn't list anything, it seems like opening PPS files is rather uncommon.

Thanks, but it looks like too much fuss to just open PPS files (create a google account, save the PPS I get from an e-mail to disk, upload it to google, and open it).

Cannot get any sound when playing .avi files

Hi All
I am running QT version 6.5.3 on Mac OS X 10.2.8 and cannot get any sound when playing .avi files but the picture is perfect.
I have installed the following: M-Peg 2 playback component, AVI Components and AC3 component.
Does anyone know if I am missing anything or how I can fix this?

Download and install Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs. In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

Firefox 3.6 will prompt me to download or view for the .pps file type. But Firefox 4 seems cannot recognize .pps file type and trys to display it. The result is a frozen browser window.

Within Firefox 4, I right click to open a new tab on a link pointing to a file with .pps extension. The new tab is full of special characters. Looks like the .pps file is being displayed. And the browser is frozen.
I try the same mouse click on Firefox 3.6 and the prompt for download/view window pops up in the new tab. That's the action I need.

You may have set a download action to open the file in Firefox: Tools > Options > Applications

No sound in imported PowerPoint files

Although I have no difficulty in playing any .pps file sent to me (the pictures are fine), however no music or other SFX plays. I followed the suggestion to change .pps to .ppt, but it makes no difference: everything still plays in beautiful dumb show. I'd be grateful for any suggestions, thank you.

Yes, you can
In Settings, turn on Do Not Disturb to silence sounds from incoming calls and notifications. You can allow calls from your favorites, specific contacts, or contact groups. Enable Do Not Disturb manually or schedule a recurring time.

This would appear to be similar to a problem I had - but in my case I wanted fields at the bottom of the very last page only.
The solution is to place the fields you require on the master page and then remove them via scripting (on the master page) from the pages where they are not required.
This post below should contain the details you need - just adapt the script so that it makes the fields invisible on page 1.
