I need the communities help in solving a network issue

Hello all,
I need your help. I am experiencing brief losses in connectivity somewhere in my Internet connection. They happen sporadically. Some days I get none, on average I get 1-2, rarely more then 3. And they  last from 10-30 seconds. Nothing has to be done on my end to start communication happening again.
All, in all, it is relatively minor.  Except that I work from home. My VPN connection can drop during this time causing some frustration. But, the biggest problem is my VOIP phone (over this VPN). The phone always drops off and has to re-register (1-2 minute process). I am often times leading critical phone meetings, and dropping off-line is not an option.
So, why am I asking you for help?  Well I have almost an exclusive Apple environment (as much as I can at least). I am wondering if there is any way I can figure out what is going on through some sort of logs on my Airport Extreme? Is there some sort of sniffer program that can be installed on the Mac that will help?
I have called my cable internet provider (Cox) and of course they say everything is fine on their end.  I don't know where to start!
Any help would be appreciated!
Stuart

Thanks for the update on the Cisco. I use a Cisco RVS4000 VPN router as my main Internet router and have a pair of 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Stations (AEBSn) that connect back to this Cisco by Ethernet which provide wireless for both floors of my house. I use the same Cisco VPN client to access a work PC as well.
However, notice that I have the VPN router well upstream in my network as it is directly connected to my Broadband modem. This would be the ideal location for a VPN appliance, but is not mandatory.
Your AirPort, unfortunately, does not have any QoS or traffic-shaping features. That means all data coming/going though the AirPort is pretty much treated equally. Your work-provided Cisco router does have these features and could be configured to prioritize all VPN and/or VoIP data traffic.
It may be possible the issues you are seeing is where this Cisco is situated downstream of both another router and a switch.

Get thee to the Microsoft Word for Mac forum found here <http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.mac.office.word>. You'll find several experts there who may be able to assist you. Also have a look at this resource put together by some of those experts <http://word.mvps.org/mac/>.
Word for Mac is a Microsoft product, not an Apple product. You'll find more answers there than you will find here in a forum dedicated to Mac and Windows compatibility. Be sure to search the forum first. You may find that someone else has asked a similar question and that it has already been answered. You'll hopefully get your answer faster this way.
    Good luck! bill

  • The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation network issue

    Hi
I run some windows (2008 r2) servers on the cloud. A couple of servers are reporting a red x in the system tray where the network icon is, and my network adapter has disappeared.Using ipconfig /renew I get:
The operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation"
There isn't really more info I can provide. All servers on static private IPs.
    Thanks

    Hi GSS1,
    Thanks for update.
So can we still verify and get information of this missing NIC form device management console on server ? can we still get the NIC by command “netsh interface show interface” ?
what was the latest modification we performed before this issue occurred ? Is there any error or warring event shown in the event viewer ?
Have we installed Hyper-V on this server host ?
We have a KB article that described a similar issue and some methods to verify and resolve this issue on Windows 2003 and XP platform and we may try it and see if that will help:
How to troubleshoot missing network connections icons in Windows Server 2003 and in Windows XP

  • Need some URGENT help with 3 DVD mastering issues PLEASE! :

    Hi there,
Firstly, I am running DVD SP 3.0.2 on Mac OS 10.4.7 on a G5 Dual 2 GHz 3Gb Ram plenty of HD space...
I am creating a DVD with: An intro sequence, a main menu, 4 sub menus, and 4 sections with around 12 chapters each.
I am having some big problems, and a pretty stuck. I will lest them separately below, numbered. If you are able to help, please refer clearly to which number you are helping with. Any help is MUCH appreciated! Many thanks!!
    1. Each of the 5 menus (1 main, 4 sub) have a background video, and a separate audio track. I added the background videos by simply dragging them to the assests panel, then from there onto the menu editor window. They are created in FCP and are properly encoded. However, when I click the motion button, or use the simulator, the videos do not show up. The music plays, but all i see is plain black.
    What is going on?!?!?!
    2. I am really struggling with rollover buttons. I have custom created buttons, and I wand them to have a soft red glow around them when hovered over. HOW ON EARTH DO I ACTUALLY DO THIS??
The buttons are in photoshop so can be exported with/without background/glow in any format.
    3. Is it possible, once I have got the above rollover working, to have an image to the right hand side of my buttons which changes with the the button rollover. i.e. hover over button 1, see image 1. hover over button 2, image changes to image 2.
PLEASE PLEASE give any help you can, I have a deadline coming up and am quite stumped. Thanks again!!

I am still having problems regarding issue Number 1. PLEASE ANYONE HELP?!
Sorry, I'm not sure about the motion menus. I avoid those whenever possible. But you might click on the menu in the storyline tab (whatever it's called -- the hierarchical view with the disc, tracks, slideshows, etc.) and look at the properties and see if there's anything you have to enable specifically for motion. And be sure the motion button is on on the main display/preview area, but it sounds like you already know how that works.
For your information, here is a screen grab of the menu I am trying to create:
    http://www.redhavoc.co.uk/stuff/menu.jpg
I think it is obvious that when a button is hovered over, I want it to glow red, and the image to the right will change to match the respective button.
IS THIS GOING TO BE POSSIBLE????
    Yes.
First, your menus have to be layered menus. Unfortunately, there's no way to convert non-layered menus to layered menus, so if you already have non-layered, you'll have to just delete them and create new layered menus. The button (and menu item) to create a layered menu should be right by the normal new-menu item.
Next, the graphical work is all in Photoshop.
Side tip: You may already know this, but I found it's best to use 640x480 for the Photoshop document. When I do text and leave it as a text object in the Photoshop file, it resizes poorly in DVDSP. So this ends up being another 720x480 vs. 640x480 square/rectangular pixel conversion thing. DVDSP plays in the 640x480 world, at least as far as the designer can see. So I keep my images at 640x480, and it doesn't have to resize, and everything looks right.
Moving on... Set up your basic background, the part that won't change (or will have other things covering it, like for your square image).
Then put in all the buttons and images you'll be using, each part in a separate layer. This could have fifteen buttons (you have five buttons, and there can be three versions for each -- inactive, selected, and activated versions) and five or six square images (you said one for each button, and you might want a blank default if, say, you want to add a "back" button on the menu and want some blank or default image for the square when they're on the "back" button).
Sometimes people don't bother with a separate "active" button state, but you usually want some visual feedback that they clicked the button. Also, I usually just build the default (unselected) button into the background; that's less hassle later on, and it will just draw the selected or activated buttons over that when the user is on that button.
Line up all your buttons and images. All the square images lined up perfectly on top of each other, all the buttons in the right places (so you'll have three buttons stacked on top of each other in each spot). Give each layer a short but quickly recognizable name, and line them up in a consistent order. (button1-default, button1-selected, button1-active, button1-squarepicture, then button2-default, ... etc.) Photoshop and DVDSP don't care, but it makes it easier for you later.
Note that earlier versions of DVDSP won't show Photoshop layer effects. (They handle layers, just not the effects, like inner glow, outer bezel, etc.) I don't remember when they changed this, but I think it was version 4.something. So if you're using that method to make your buttons glow, you may have to flatten each selected or active button layer, and you may even need to create a dummy blank layer underneath it first to give it something to flatten onto.
Save the file as a standard Photoshop file (.psd). Drag the file onto your DVDSP layered menu and set it as the background.
Now, in DVDSP, create all your buttons. Just drag boxes over/around the button pictures you have. Feel free to make them extra-big; users won't see the actual area you've selected, and bigger areas makes it easier for people to hit them if they're using a mouse on a computer to watch the DVD. You can point the buttons to their targets now if you want, and set the end jumps on the tracks if you want. (I tend to set the end jumps on the tracks so they automatically select the button for the next track.)
Now's the fun part, since it will actually hook everything up and should be easy if your naming layer order were consistent. Click on the layered menu (in that hierarchical view) and look at the properties window. (Sorry I can't remember the technical names for all these windows; I'm doing this all from memory. So feel free to ask more questions if you can't find what I'm talking about.) One of the properties tabs should have a grid of checkboxes with a list of your layers. Make sure the background is checked for all of the states. Then check the layers you want to show for each button state, as well as the corresponding square image to show for each.
Again, I'm doing this from memory, and I can't remember exactly how things are listed in that grid. But I remember it keeps your layers in the same order you put them in the Photoshop file and shows you those names, so it should make it easy to go down the list and check the right boxes.
And another side tip: You can update the Photoshop file, but once you've put it in DVDSP, if you change the layer order, it will screw up the check boxes you checked. It always shows you the layer names correctly, but it keeps the checkboxes in DVDSP simply assigned to the layer number, so the fifth layer will keep the same checkboxes even if you juggle them so some other layer is now the fifth layer. So if you do juggle the layers in Photoshop, go back and fix the checkbox list in DVDSP.
I put a sample Photoshop file based on yours in
    http://dan.black.org/layered-menu-sample.psd
It's quick and dirty, but shows the layer layout, and you should be able to drop it on DVDSP to play with. (I also won't leave it there forever, maybe a few weeks, so anybody reading this in a month or more probably will get a 404 for that url.)
Again, doing this from memory, so feel free to ask if anything doesn't work or doesn't make sense.

  • Help me solve R&R issue

    Hi everybody
A while ago I deleted Rescue and Recovery from computer because I took another backup program to use instead, mostly because the backup files generated by R&R took up way too much space on my C:.
However, I now have a serious problem, which is that I am quite sure R&R is still operating on my computer, even though the program is deleted and does no longer appears on my list of programs. For instance, I some times receive message boxes with "Rescue and Recovery" in the header but no text content otherwise. What's worse is that now, Im pretty sure the backup files are taking up disk space once again. I have only 5 free GB when I should have at least 20 free GB.
How do I delete the backup files when the program doesnt appear anywhere on my computer? Does anyone know in what folder the files would be placed? Ive tried downloading R&R from the Lenovo site, but the file doesnt work. Windows tells me that its corrupted or that a certain file is missing. Ive also tried CCleaner but it doesnt find anything when scanning.
Im by the way running Vista.
    Thanks.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There's a free application called WinDirStat that will identify the files which take up the greatest amount of disk space.  You could try using it to find the files that are sucking up big chunks of memory.  Sorry, but that's the best suggestion I've got.

  • Please help me solve this CS5 issue - I am a first time poster, but long time user

While in the middle of producing a rather large website, I get this error every time I open a file in Dreamweaver CS5 and I cannot preview file using the "Preview/Debug in browser" button.
    Error:
---- While executing onLoad in_onOpen.htm, the following JavaScript error(s) occurred. In file "_onOpen": onOpen is not defined ------
In addition, Dreamweaver will not let me use/choose/open the file. Browser preferences keep resetting.
I went on the other forums and the solution points to removal of
         <user>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS5/en_US/Configuration/MacFileCache-XXXXXXX.dat
file is suggested, but I have not such file on my Mac OS X Version 10.7.3. I get as far as Library/Application Support/Adobe.
In fact I don't even see Dreamweaver on the list. (see attached.)
Thanks for any guidance - Lauren

Well there is a library folder in your user account but by default it's hidden in 10.7.  It's a very common folder so you should either unhide it or know how to access it, for instance by doing a Go To Folder in the finder and opening "~/Library".  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90947.html

    Hello,
I'm having problems with my wireless network connections, too. I did a fresh arch install with gnome3 some days ago to avoid any issues when upgrading, but i just can't access any wireless networks now. Everything else works like a charm, though. I followed the usual steps to set up my network/wifi with all the required modules and packages (broadcom-wl from the AUR, etc.) but it doesn't work like it did with gnome2 and xfce4.
My iwconfig/ifconfig output looks like dave1022's. Don't know if this is of any help...
The nm-applet in the gnome3 "panel" actually lists nearby wireless networks, but once I click on one of them, gnome asks me for authentification with my root password (user password does not work). I don't think it should be this way. If I enter my root password here, nothing happens whenever I click on the concerned network to connect to it. I deleted the /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/<SSID> file to reset the authentification process.
I tried to consult the gnome3 pages in the wiki, but couldn't find any valueable hints either...does anyone have any idea what I might have done wrong or forgotten?
It's exactly the same for me and it's driving me nuts. I'm using iwl3945
    [EDIT]
Well... actually installing the applet solved it for me. Is the applet actually needed for Gnome 3 or is a workaround?

  • T43 Accessing the IBM Help button, or any of the help material

I'm new, so please excuse my noviceness. I bought a refurbished T43, wanting to get into the ThinkPad. I went to a green refurbisher and all was well. However......
It has XP. When I try to access the blue help button, or any of the instructional material, nothing happens.  (I understand there is no user manual, so it important for a newbie). I presume the refurbisher  just wiped the system clean, and only installed XP and a couple of other things.
How can I get this instructional material back and working.
Once again, thanks, and sorry for the lame knowledge on my part.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    dstortz, welcome to the forum,
you can visit this site to find all the necessary drivers / tools for your T43. You will need the Access Help users online guide and almost certainly the HotKey Utility, please ensure you download and install the versions for your system type.
Another method would be to see if System Update can find them for you. MS .NET Framework 2.0 will be required for this, instructions are posted on the site.
    Hope this helps

  • The standalone help doesn't work

    Hi,
I have installed the Oracle workshop. Through the tutorials I was guided to use the standalone help. There are two issues:
    1. The tutorial should specifically mention setting of BEA_HOME variable - which I was able to decipher.
    2. The jar org.eclipse.help.base_3.3.2.v20070813_33x.jar which should presumbly contain the class : Infocentre isn't present so running the command gives us following eception:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/eclipse/help/stan
    dalone/Infocenter
Its always better to be correct in the titorials and be more elaborate. I guess thats what makes a product user friendly.
    Thanks
    Sanjeev

  • Solving Centro hotsync issues without a hard reset

I have a Centro (sprint).  I am running Windows Vista.  I cannot connect with hotsync.  Whenever I try, I get the following message -- "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established.  Please check your setup and try again."  I went through the article referenced at the beginning of this forum and performed all the suggestions (reloaded Palm desktop 6.2, the outlook 2007 update, soft restart, etc.).  I took it to a repair center and they stated the ONLY way to fix it was to do a hard reset which would lose all info.  Since I can't hotsync, I haven't been able to backup the phone which means I'll lose everything.  I'm hoping there are some other suggestions I could try.  It seems contrary that the only way to solve a hotsync issue and save your data is to do a hard reset and lose all your data.  Thanks.
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

Is your Vista 64 bit or 32 bit?
Try performing a warm reset of your device... Take out the battery press and hold the UP button insert the battery while holding the UP navigator button wait until you see set date and time then release the button. Connect the phone back to the PC and try perform a hotsync.

    Hello,
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…
System Preferences>Network, top of window>Locations>Edit Locations, little plus icon, give it a name.
    10.5.x/10.6.x/10.7.x/10.8.x instructions...
System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
    If using Wifi/Airport...
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
For 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(There may be better or faster DNS numbers in your area, but these should be a good test).
    Click OK.
If that doesn't work try changing channels on your Router.

    Manoj: Okay.
Manoj: May I know if you are able to install the Photoshop Elements 13 application?
You: Another email has been received with same link to reset the pass word that went to Junk Mail. So what should I do?
Manoj: I am sorry for the trouble caused.
Manoj: Open Adobe.com on your system.
You: I inserted the disk and input the serial number but can not get past the ID & pass word. It says the combination does not work
    Manoj: Okay.
Manoj: Not to worry. Please open Adobe.com in web browser and try to sign in there.

Manoj: Please check if there is an installation window which is already opened and try to continue with the installation process.
Manoj: Check the task bar if there is the installation process is going on.
You: Nothing is going on with installation. The disc drive light is not on. Basically it is locked up and I can not open it
You: I tried the sign in button again but just got the same window to reset the pass word.
    Manoj: Okay.
Manoj: Please close the installation window.
Manoj: Run the set up file now and start the installation process.
You: I closed all of the windows except this customer care window and my email
    Manoj: Thank you.
Manoj: Now open the Disc drive.
Manoj: Run the setup file and start the installation process.
You: Okay the disc drive opened and is open now
Manoj: Now please continue with the installation process.
You: Do I just insert the Disc again?
Manoj: Yes, please insert the disc.
    Manoj: Open the application folder.
Manoj: Run the setup file and start the installation process.
You: It brought up the install window and when i clicked on the install button it saad that installer was running and that I needed to close other adobe windows but only the customer care window is open
You: It also has the disc drive locked up again
Manoj: There might be an installer file running background.
Manoj: Please press Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys together on your keyboard to open Task Manager.
    You: OK
Manoj: Now go to Processes tab.
Manoj: Click on Show processes from all users option and then check if there is any Setup.exe process is running.
You: FireFox.exe *32 is large and running
    Manoj: No, please ignore it.
Manoj: Check if there is a process named Set up.exe running in the processes tab and end the process if it is listed.
You: There is no Set up.exe running listed on the page
    Manoj: Okay.
Manoj: Try to start the installation now and check.
Manoj: May I know the status please?
You: I went to the Applications list and there was two Elements 13 there and one was running. I now have just one running but when I tried the installation again it just sent me to the sign in page which will not accept my old or new pass word
You: I now have two programs running Adobe elements 13 and customer care via FireFox running
    Manoj: Okay.
    Manoj: Thank you for informing.
You: The disc is not inserted at this time
    Manoj: Please insert the disc.
Manoj: Copy the folder contents on your disc and then try installing the application.
You: How do I do that?
Manoj: Please insert the disc, open the disc folder, copy the entire Photoshop Elements 13 folder to the desktop.
You: This says it will take 50 minutes to copy them. Is that correct as i have to go some place soon?
Manoj: The files are huge in size, so it will take a while.
You: It now says there are 14 minutes remaining
    Manoj: Thank you for informing.
Manoj: If you want to try installing the application later, you can try installing the application from Desktop by running the setup file from the desktop app.
You: There is still 8 minutes remaining. When this gets loaded to the desk top then what do I do.
Manoj: Once the copy of files is completed. Remove the disc and then open the desktop Photoshop Elements 13 folder, run the setup file in that folder to start the installation.
You: Ok. It still says it will take another 5 minutes to load
    Manoj: Thank you for informing.
You: Now at 2.30 minutes remaining
    Manoj: Thank you for informing.
You: Ok. The loading to desk top must be done & I have removed the disc
    Manoj: Thank you,.
Manoj: Now open the folder which we copied now.
Manoj: Run the Setup.exe file from the folder.
You: i tried running the set up file but it says other items are open. I tried to close the one for sign i again and it will not close.
Manoj: May I know the error it is showing as while trying to close the other installation window?
You: The sign in window keeps asking for a ID & Password. When i put them in is says I must reset the pass word
    Manoj: Okay.
Manoj: Close that previous installation window which is asking to reset the password and run the setup file now from the new folder which we copied now.
You: I said it would send notice to my email but I checked both the email and the junk mail and nothing arrived
Manoj: Robert, since the previous installation is started from the disc, we need to close that window and start installing from the desktop Photoshop Elements folder.
You: Ok I got everything closed and will retry
    Manoj: Thank you.
You: The installer initiation ran and now I am back to the same problem.. When I try to sign in it says I need a new pass word but nothing happens
Manoj: Okay, Please allow me 2-3 minutes while I check and help you.
Manoj: Thank you for staying online.
Manoj: May I have your permission to connect to your computer remotely and try to solve the problem while you watch?
You: yes but I am running out of time.
    Manoj: Okay.
Manoj: Could you please let me know how much time is available for you so that we will check if it is okay for the troubleshooting?
You: I have onlly 10 minutes left before I must leave. I can be back by 2030 (8:30 PM) if that will work
Manoj: In this case, I will leave this open, please contact us back when you find free time so that we will continue from this point to resolve the issue as early possible.
Manoj: Is that okay for you?
You: How do I get back to you at customer care. I am not sure how I got to this point.
You: Is there a reference number or ticket number I can use for reference
Manoj: Please use the bellow link to contact us back.
    Manoj: http://helpx.adobe.com/contact/
