In case anyone was wondering, I want to ask Apple why they think I need QuickTime to start automatically when windows starts. There are very few programs I need started when windows starts, and most of them are important ... hence, I don't need QuickTime to start when Windows starts.
Most software developers, who are keenly aware of cranky end users -- like me! -- who don't appreciate software hijacking system resources, usually include an option box in their program's preferences menu like:
'Start <application name> when windows starts.'
Whereupon I would simply uncheck the box, and move on with my computing session. Of course, of all the nifty things in QuickTime's preferences menu, a box like that doesn't seem to be one of them (feel free to flame the **** out of me if I'm wrong.)
The only thing left to do for people like me is to open up regedit and delete some keys somewhere in that maze of entries that Windows calls 'The Registry' ... which I do. Even this would be fine, if I only had to do it once upon installation. If ...
Because in reality, everytime I install a QuickTime update, guess what? That's right, QuickTime resets itself and takes the liberty of starting when my computer starts ... again. So its back to the registry.
I want to ask Apple ... is this responsible programming? Its not like they don't know their product does this. They deliberately make it difficult to stop this behavior, and then ensure that it restarts after every update.
You know who you're becoming like, Apple? Oh yeah, baby, that's right ... Microsoft. You know how outlook makes it a point to get back in your face (even when you're using Thunderbird as your default client) everytime you update? ... Well, at least disabling outlook doesn't require a registry hack!
I really think that companies who knowingly employ bad programming behavior should be held responsible for annoying products. Maybe you don't have an easy way to contact you, Apple, because of stuff like this. Anyway, if you're reading this, go fix your software! I'm a programmer and I wouldn't think of taking control of an application away from the end-user without giving them a way to easily get it back. I consider it rather discourteous, but then again, I'm not a multi-million dollar company. I'm just one guy, and I can't afford to **** people off ...

wdl12, I'd suggest you start a new topic with your issue (use the "Post a new topic" link at the top of each main topic page). Not only is your problem on a Mac and not Windows (this is the iTunes for Windows forum), it's generally better to ask a question as a new topic rather than as a reply in someone else's thread. It's more courteous to the original poster, and is more likely to get your question the attention it deserves.
And since your questions appears to have more to do with another program (since iTunes can't burn DVDs except as data for backup), you'll probably want to look for a more appropriate forum in which to ask your question. I'd guess that you're using iDVD, so the iDVD forum will probably be the most appropriate.

Switching from PC to Mac - Need to ask several compatibility questions

Hello. I'm about to buy a new iMac, with the whole hunky dory '^_^, especially graphics. The thing is, I don't really care about Windows-only software as I can buy VMware or similar, but my question is, I have a complete collection of The Sims 2 (and The Sims 1, from some time ago.), intended for Windows. As I know trans-machine applications via virtual machine software can be VERY buggy, especially when using high-end graphics. Will I have to keep my old big PC to run it properly, or will I be able to run The Sims 2 and similar graphics-using games on a new iMac with virtual machine software?
And don't suggest me to re-buy it Mac-edition, hehe. Still saving for the iMac itself! '^_^. (I'm a teen from Israel, what did ya expect? )

How fast Windows runs in a virtual machine depends primarily on the system power. If you want to use a VM exclusively for games sans Boot Camp you should go for as much processing power and memory as you can afford. I have Windows Vista installed in Boot Camp and I also have a Parallels virtual machine set up to run the Boot Camp installation from within OS X. Parallels doesn't currently support Direct X in Vista, however, but it does in Windows XP. Parallels also has a migration tool that will allow you to migrate an existing Windows installation from a PC into a Parallels virtual machine on a Mac.

iTunes wont let me download any music and I have over $20 on my account. It says I need to answer my security questions but I don't know the answers. When I try to send an email to the rescue email, it doesn't work. It says the email starts with an "h" but none of my emails start with an "h". I also don't know how to edit the email. Apple ID Question/problems

Ok, i'm sure by now this quesiton or questions like it have been asked adnausium, i'm quite sorry but i simply don't have the time, or patience to sift through possible answers or try to find similar situations.
here is the lowdown, i have two apple ID's now obviously
[email protected] and
[email protected] where XXXXX is the same name except for the domain.
Anyway, when i buy/download new apps it goes through my aol ID where the credit card info is. that's fine and that's always been the case
Now sometimes when i update some apps will ask for the aol name but others will prompt me to put in the password for just "XXXXX" as the user name.
Not "[email protected]" or "[email protected]"
however when i log into my icloud account attachted to the @me.com name, the password works fine and i can login and find myiphone, transfer calanders and whathaveyou. However some apps that require just the username sans domain name (from what i'm guessing is the new iCloud name), the password doesnt work. the only way around it is to delete the app completely (destroying the files it has on the device) and reinstalling it as a brand new app (obviously using my main user and pass based on the aol account id). this is obviously a horrid workaround.
when i try to do an iForget for the pasword it wants me to change only the main AOL account password and not the @me.com password and i have no idea how to go about doing that. Now i may be very confused here and hopefully someone can decifer my ramblings and figure out what is wrong and what i need to do. But i've tried everything. i'm pretty tech savy but this has me plain old stumped. any assistence would be awesome.

sorry to hear about your troubles, but we will need to have more technical information about your problem to be able to help you:
There may be several reasons that can cause Aperture to crash on start up:
You may have imported an image (or video) in an encoding that Aperture does not support, or that is larger than 2 GB, or that is corrupted and Aperture cannot process it
Your Aperture Library or Preferences may have been corrupted
Or you are having a system wide problem with your machine.
Or you may simple be running out of disk space.
It would help, if you could post the crash log from your last crash. Also, more details on your Aperture Library: Is it managed or references? how large is it? Is it on your system drive or on an external drive?
What have you done, shortly before the trouble started? Have you imported new images or videos? Did you install any plug-ins or any new software, lile Final Cut?
Try, if you can get Aperture to launch, if you defer the generation of Previews: Hold down the SHIFT-key immediately after you start Aperture to prevent preview generation for that session. If a damaged image in your library is preventing normal opening, this may allow you to start Aperture. If this succeeds, try to identify the broken image or video among the images you recently imported and remove it from the library.
