I have been reading forums and forums and after days of research l gave up.
Unfortunately it seems that nobody has provided a name of a brand yet.
Although the effort is very admirable, l am still at the point of finding myself back at square one, with an unanswered question:

Thanks.The iPad charger is rated at 10W - 5V @ 2A An iPhone/iPod charger is rated at 5W - 5V @ 1A. An iPhone charger will charge the iPad, but much slower than the iPad charger. Based on the specs, I don't think it's adequate for the iPad.

Amazon has them for about $160 - again, they are too thick to fit in any Mac laptop though. And I seriously doubt you will find a 2.5" 2TB drive for $100 - that size has only recently even become available. -

All I can say is that I REALLY like my Touch 4th gen because I have all sorts of capabilities in a small form: e-mail, web browsing, news, weather, books, magazines, etc. etc. Plus lots and lots of apps out there, including so many free ones. I use the Cloud a lot so it's great to have everything sync'd to my MacBookPro (e-mail, Evernote, Pocket, etc.)
It would be easier, though, to do some of this, especially magazines, on the iPad mini, but, again, I love the small size of the Touch.
As for the 5th gen instead of the 4th, the fifth has Siri and the 3D feature in maps, which are great. And I'm sure it's a lot faster in iOS 6 than the 4th gen. And cool colors!

Do I really need to buy an external drive to burn DVDs on my eMac (10.4)?
I have been trying to burn DVDs (using DVD-Rs, not DVD+Rs) on my eMac (OS 10.4) without success. The machine just acts as if nothing has been put in the drive; it whirrs and whirrs, no icon appears, no error message, nothing, until after half an hour or so I have to just eject it. On another forum, I was told that the problem was probably that my eMac can't recognize blank DVD-Rs, let alone burn them, without an external drive that has to be purchased separately. I want to be sure that's really true before buying anything, needless to say!
Another string on this forum suggested looking under "optical drive" under "About This Mac" to find out this kind of thing. I see nothing that specifically says "optical drive," but under Hardware and Disc Burning, it says:

[email protected]While you can replace the intenal drive, opening up an eMac is not a trivial process and it's far easier to add an external drive. Go with Firewire rather than USB, even if your eMac is USB 2.0; support for Firewire under OS X is better and more stable.You can get a Firewire enclosure for around US$30 to $40 and a bare DVD-RW/CD-RW for about the same; or buy a complete system for around US$130 to $200 depending on features such as third-party burning software (Toast) or built-in label making with special DVD-R or CD-R blanks (LightScribe). OS X 10.3.3 and higher (which of course includes the 10.4 in your profile) includes native support for DVD-R burning, so you don't strictly need third-party software such as Toast, but Toast is more flexible than the built-in burner and allows for packing more data on a disc since Toast has better control over the disc's directory size. LightScribe is an appealing idea, but slow, and the blanks are expensive. When consideringf whether to roll your own, so to speak, with an enclosure and bare drive, don't overlook that you'll need a good-quality Firewire cable; cheap cables can cause a surprising amount of grief. Unless you have a bare DVD-RW drive handy, I persoanlly find the convenience of a commercial drive, with cable and power supply/cord already packaged together, outweighs the savings of assembling a drive yourself. I'm partial to LaCie D2 Firewire drives myself, but there are other models that work fine.

Nope. I've been recording live bands with up to 56 channels at 24 bit 48kHz for three years now.

Yes. The actual recording uses the hard drive buss, so you need to make sure you have fast drives and a dedicated FW or SATA buss for them.

No. CPU is used only for routing audio, effects, etc. An audio interface is used to route the audio in and out of the computer, and as such does not process effects at all.

Yes. Although with Logic Pro you can use only one drive at a time for recording. HOWEVER, I have been able to use SATA drives to record up to 56 tracks AT ONCE. So there is plenty of power there.

Again, I have done 56 tracks. 16 is a walk in the park in comparison to 56. I would recommend you invest in Apogee AD16X and DA16X, since in one interface you get ALL 16 inputs, and the other gives you the 16 outputs to go to, say, a mixer. And the sound quality is very very very good.

I just noticed that I can no longer select photos out of my finder that are located in my Aperture/Iphoto Library. I used to be able to attach photos to my gmail out of the aperture library in the finder and for some reason, no longer can.
I can't access these images except to go into the applications.
Also, I'd like to import my iphoto library into aperture, and move aperture library to an external drive. I tried the import first, but there wasn't enough space. Then I tried copying over the aperture library onto the external drive but it failed bc it said file was in use.
As it is, I only have 50gb left on my imac, and the aperture library is 150gb. Also, I have over 10k images in both libraries combined and there are tons of duplicates that need to be sorted, and hopefully not messed up because I've organized most of them.
So in short, I need to know how to do the following:
-select photos in finder in aperture/iphoto libraries
-move aperture library to live on external drive
-import iphoto library into aperture library
-eliminate dups but maintain organization
-moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
-live happily ever after
Thanks in advance for any support you can offer!!If you're using apps like iPhoto or Aperture then they replace the Finder for managing your photos. The point is that you use the (many) options available via these apps for the things you want and need to do with the Photos.
So, simply, you don't select the photos in the Finder. I'll append the supported ways to do this - which are faster and will yield the current version of your Photos - to the end of this post.

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit Aperture
2. Copy the Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching Aperture. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Referenced - relocate your Masters first.
These issues are covered in the Manual and on this forum hundreds of times.

You can't. Every photo is in a Project. They’re the basic building blocks of the Library.
You might want to spend a little time with the manual or the video tutorials. I'm not sure you've grasped the app you've purchased.
The following is written for iPhoto, but about 97% works for Aperture too.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto/ APerture: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics. This is what you use to attach your shot to your GMail
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps. If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto/ Aperture.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto/ Aperture not running:
For users of 10.6 and later: You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.

I just downloaded itunes, and when i go to music there are two options. You can either go to the itunes store or scan for media, and when I click on scan for media it does nothing. Help? (I tried deleting itunes and re-installing it but apparently itunes was still on my computer so it asked me if I wanted to just check and see if there were any issues or missing software, so I did that but i still had the same problem.)

Oh, have you brought up so many good points. Not to take us off-topic, but I could rant all day about Eloqua consulting firms who let low-level employees (Eloqua skill-wise) loose on clients projects. Just not fair for either the employee or client. There was one company that did this to me a few years ago, and since then dozens of people have asked me about them for a reference. Needless to say, they never get a good one from me, and have likely lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in projects because of this. Not worth it in the long-run to cut corners.
Back to the topic at hand....
You really hit the nail on the head in so many ways. It really all does come down to one thing: hard work. There are no shortcuts. Always keep learning. Embrace every Eloqua challenge you can, and never say never. Never be fearful of being wrong by asking something 'silly', or 'looking stupid'. I remember several times that I've submitted Eloqua support tickets, or tickets to other related vendors about things that I was convinced were bugs/major issues. Turned out to be my mistake. But that's ok. You brush off, stand back up, and learn from them.
And finally, be modest. You will never know everything about Eloqua. Be willing to learn from others, and know that there actually may be a better way to do something than you may have spent days or weeks working on. -

Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions - Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu. -
Is the smart keyboard on the ipad2 sufficient for email purposes or do I need to buy an external keyboard? Also, does the ipad2 have dictation capability?
the iPad 2 does not have dictation, but there are apps out there for that. Dragon Dictation is one of the more popular ones.
As to the keyboard, it's a personal thing. SOme love it and never need an external one, others can't stand the on screen keyboard. Hand size, dexterity, etc, all come into play. (I got an external simply because it bugged me to have to toggle to another screen or hold down a key to get a ' ) -
i took my computer to the genius bar at a store last time this happened and after about 30mins they found a 'hidden' file that held thousands and thousands of old emails, which they deleted. Unfortunately I didnt see where they found it so I could do the same again. i have gone directly into my email accounts and deleted everything over 12mths old so there are limited amounts (7,000) that 'Mail' should be able to download, but that doesnt sem to make a difference. any ideas?
You issue is probably with your email provider. You should check the settings for each account and somewhere you will be able to set it for something like: Delete mail after X days. If you are using POP mail you can find this setting in Mail Preferences - Accounts - Advanced and look for Remove copy from server after retrieving message and then set the toggle.
BTW if no one on this forums knows where the "hidden file" you are referring to is then please repost in the Lion forum, that is where most Mail related questions should go. The reason being is Mail is considered part of OS X.

I just bought a 5g iPod touch and was wondering if there were any ihomes out or coming out soon that are compatible with this device. I know there are adapters and cables you can purchase to use with your existing ihome but read the poor reviews on them and was scared away. I use my ihome very regularly and need this accessory to work with my new iPod. If you have any information on this, please help!

I have just reinstalled Adobe Acrobat X1 and I can't save any PDF's that are emailed to me. I just get "This document could not be saves. There is a problem reading this document (21)" and then when I click OK i get "insufficient data for image" Help!

A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... then download the base install for Adobe Reader 11.0.
Then download each of the individual updates and run them sequentially.
I've installed back up to the last security update which is version 08 and have been able to do normal Save As operations.
You will have to disable automatic updates in order to stay at version 08 until Adobe resolves this issue in a later release.
