I need to compress a podcast to send to iWeb is that possible??

I used garageband to do my podcast I exported to iWeb I get a drop down message telling me that the episode will result in along download time for web site visitors. For best performance your movie file shold be no larger than 10 MB. you can use iMovie's QuickTime web export settings to reduce the file size.
The problem I have is how do I send this to iMovie??? this a audio podcast not video I don't understand why I must use iMovie to reduce the file size although the episode did post on iWeb, I wanted to know how to reduce file sizes and I have QT Pro thank you

Apple only suggests iMovie because an import/export to QuickTime can allow you to adjust compression settings.
Since you have Pro simply open the file, note the codec and settings. Export using lower settings to reduce the file size.
Start with the frequency (probably 48kHz) and cut it back to 32. Check the sample bit rate (probably 128) and lower it to 96.
If your file doesn't need stereo use mono (half as big of a file size).
If your file requires those high quality audio settings cut the file into shorter "segments" and make more than one PodCast.

  • Using the new Pages 5. Why do I need to compress a document when sending by email?

I have just started using Pages 5 and apart from the fact that unless other users have updated to the new version they cannot open the document. First time this has happened with me using Apple software. Happened all the time with windows. Why do pages documents need to be compressed when sending them by email? They also end up being larger than the original document.

What are you using to save as a pdf? Reader doesn't have anything to do with creating the pdf. If you are simply using the "Save As>PDF in Word then yes, it's a Microsoft issue. No Adobe product is involved in that part. Adobe Reader is only seeing what is created.
But, when you say it's being cut off do you mean it's cutting it off in the pdf itself or is it all visible in the pdf but is being cut off when you print?

  • While I was talking via land line to land line with a friend they recieved text message from my iphone that I did not send. How is that possible?

I repeat.  While I was talking via land line to land line with a friend they began recieving text messages from my Iphone that I did not send.  I am in the middle east and I was calling a land line in Mexico but that should not have mattered.  Moreover, the person I was speaking to told me they had gotten other text messages from me that know I never sent.   I called my phone company (AT&T) and was told the problem was not with the system but with my Iphone.  They suggested someone was using app that mimicked my phone number.   Is such a think possible?

In addition to my iphone I have an itouch.  I only just today created an appleID so that I could use this message board so it seems unlikely that the problem is the result of a misused ID

  • Need to sync JUST album art....Is that possible?

I loaded some of my music the other day manually like I always do because do otherwise my iPhone would fill out too quickly. So I have Manually manage music and videos on and sync music off under music.
But I didn't have some album art at the time and I finally added it, but now I want to add it to my iPhone, but syncing it doesn't work.
What can I do to sync just the album art

Have you read any of what I've included in my previous posts?
Obviously not - so read it.
You don't have to include your entire music library when syncing. Under the Sync Music selection, you can choose all music and playlists, or selected playlists. I choose selected playlists and have a single primary iTunes playlists that I use for my iPhone, along with a few other playlists.
When manually managing music, you must manually delete the songs from your iPhone - open your iPhone in the iTunes source list to reveal the categories within such as music. Select music to view the music that was manually transferred to your iPhone. Select the music that you want to delete and select the delete button. This is called manually managing music, so you must do all this manually, which isn't a good idea to use with the iPhone.
If you restore your iPhone with iTunes if needed or wanted when manually managing music, you must manually re-transfer all music to your iPhone having to remember which music you had manually transferred to your iPhone before restoring. When syncing, the selected playlists chosen are re-selected automatically, or you can select the playlist or playlists yourself followed by a sync. The identical music as before will be transferred to your iPhone without having to remember anything and without having to manually do anything except for selecting the Sync button.
Don't know why I'm wasting my time with someone who chooses not to read what was already provided and learn something.
Based on all of this, why are you manually managing music again?

  • Step by Step instructions needed to compress a 39KB file into a 20MB PDF

    Newbie needs help.
I have a 39KB AI file I need to compress into a 20MB PFD while retaining all image quality for print. Thank you so much!

A 20MB file is pretty big. Are you sure that you don't mean a 20KB file. That's where everyone is confused about what you are asking. Saving your file from AI as a PDF and choosing Smallest File Size in the Second dialog will probably give you the smallest file you can get.

My ISP tells me I need to change the port to send/receive mail, as the current port is going to be disabled for security reasons. But I can't remember my Mail password to add an account. How can I add an account when I don't remember my password? It's been several years.

your email password is with your ISP so they can help. but if it is saved in the email app you can just change the ports in the preferneces without a password.

  • Do I need to rebuild my podcast?

Hi, I am trying to post some weekly talks through a podcast using Blogger. I have been doing this for a little over a year now, and it has been working beautifully...up until a few weeks ago. Whether or not this has anything to do with transferring the feed to Google, I am not sure... I deleted a couple of the most recent episodes, thinking that would help, but it didn't.
Here are the basics for what you need to know:
    a) The URL of the blog is http://www.umdnewman.blogspot.com
    b) There are two URLs of that site's feed: http://www.umdnewman.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default
    and http://www.umdnewman.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss
    c) The URL of the FeedBurner feed is http://feeds2.feedburner.com/homilies3
    d) I am using Blogger as my publishing software.
For whatever reason, if I try to subscribe to my podcast through
iTunes, it will let me subscribe, but my episodes will not come up. The new episodes appear and I can download the podcast episodes individually through the iTunes store, but if I try to refresh the podcast in the podcast library, it won't work. The little orange circle with two arrows appears next to the title of the podcast appears, but the arrows inside of it are not working, which tells me something isn't getting through. Eventually a little gray exclamation point shows up, and if I double click on it, it says "the network connection timed out."
In Feedburner, I click on the "Homilies" feed, and I click on the "Troubleshootize" tab. I click on the FeedMedic, and it gives me a list of the errors that have occurred in the past few weeks. Right now it says everything
is "ALL CLEAR", and yet I still can't get iTunes to work with it. Under "Actions you can take" it says to check the validity of the feed. I click on "Tips and Tools." If I click on the link for Originial Feed Validity, it says it's a valid Atom 1.0 feed, and then it says, "This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following
recommendations." It lists off 5 different things that look like theymight need fixing, but I really don't want to touch the XML, and even if I could touch it I don't know how to, as I really don't want to screw things up entirely and make a mistake that cannot be reversed.
So in that link it tells me the feed is valid, but if I click on
FeedBurner Feed Validity, it tells me that:
This feed does not validate. line 2, column 3169: Undefined item
    element: app:edited (65 occurrences) [help]
    .. spot.com'/></description><app:edited
    xmlns:app="http://ww ...
    ^
And then it gives me three other things that could improve
interoperability. Am I just supposed to go through and delete all of
the times it says "app:edited"? If so, how do I do this?
Or do I just need to rebuild the podcast altogether? I have looked through some of the posts and I have seen mentionings of "Podcast Maker". Is this something I should switch to?
If someone could please assist me with this problem soon, I would
    really appreciate it! Thanks!
    Sincerely, Mary Hazuka

A podcast feed is a plain text file containing various tags: you can see an example on my page at
    http://www.wilmut.org.uk/pc
You will notice that each tag begins a new line. Your feed does not have any line returns between the tags. This doesn't matter to iTunes or other feed readers, but if you put the URL into FireFox and choose View>Page Source you get a single very long line, which you have to scroll through: it makes it almost impossible to read. Other readers may wrap the feed to the page, but it's still difficult to find anything. However if you are using Blogger to make your feed you probably don't have any method of controlling this.
As to iTunes, I can't suggest anything. except that a reinstall won't affect your music library, which is stored separately from the application. You could try in the iTunes Forum.

    (2) tried to create a feed.xml file
    - I downloaded a sample .xml file and plugged my info in as best as possible
    - I uploaded this "feed.xml" file to my server
    http://www.nunu.com/PODCASTS/feed.xml
When I went to verify the xml file with , I got an error.
I pasted the xml file in case anyone wanted to see it.

The podcast file doesn't exist. Neither does the video file, at least not in the directories that you give below. Doublecheck your directory names. Is PODCASTS really all uppercase? Generally, you should use all lowercase for paths and filenames, it makes it simpler all around.
Your itunes:image is actually in the PODCASTS directory, not the PODCAST directory. Make the image size smaller!!! 1200 x 1200 is enormous. The image is 640K. You need to keep the image size down to no larger than 300 pixels wide and tall.

  • Do I need to compress video before importing into DVD SP?

    Hello,
this is probably stupid question, but I would like to know, if I need to compress my video before I import it into DVD SP as an asset. It looks like everyone use Compressor before importing into DVD SP, (setting up number of passes, bit rates and so on), and then they do it again when setting up preferences in DVD SP. (setting 1 pass or 2passes, bit rate values)
So is not the video actually compressed twice? Once in Compressor and once in DVD SP?
And also, what video formats are actually OK to import into DVD SP? (QT, AVI, FCP movie, etc)
Does DVD SP take them all, or does it only have to be QT?
Thank you and I appologize for these novice questions.

m2v will not be recompressed when placed on tracks (though in some instances it may recompress on menus.) Ultimately it is better to compress outside of DVD SP for control of encodes (and making AC3 files) and also some formats may not be supported by importing into DVD SP directly.

  • Urgent help need to compress 4 hrs of footage onto 1 dvd

hi people any one know the settings i will need to compress 4 hours of footage onto a single layer dvd? the footage is of a seminar so not much action but will still need best quality possible have been using compressor 2 and got a complete head ache as lowest settings state i can only fit 174 minutes on a dvd that coupled with the compression times of over 185 hours at times. so im gonna re install compressor 1.2.1 and try again with that
but any help would be greatfully appreciated
    cheers

If it was me, I'd be looking at using BitVice to create a half D1 file... pretty much half the file size, and by most people's accounts a better quality than MPEG1. It works by reducing the horizontal resolution - the DVD player re-sizes the footage and there is pretty good reproduction.
Any encoder that can create the encode at 352x576 will be OK, but I know Bitvice will and have used it to do so. Since the file sizes are smaller for the same bitrate, you can fit twice as much footage on. You can easily get 4 hours of Half D1 onto a DVD-R.
Have a look at this graph to get more of a feel for how the different resolutions can work. I don't necessarily agree with all of the info there- the notion of 'fair' quality and 'good' quality being subjective terms and not always applicable to all source types or motion types, etc... but it's a good starting point nonetheless.

I need to compress an InDesign file to web-quality pdf but file size is still too big. Help!

    Hi Bill,
It sounds like your document has a lot of pages and/or images in it.
Instead of using the normal InDesign > Export command to create a PDF, you may be able to reduce the file size by printing to a PostScript file, then distilling it to PDF using Acrobat Distiller.

i don't think you need to change the external definition. make sure that you use xslt mapping first then message mapping.

  • Need Mega Compression

I have a 30 second, (at a rate of 30 frames per second) 88 MB
Quicktime Animation file that is 265 x 220 with RGB + Alpha that I
imported into Flash 8, and I need to compress it down into a .swf
file that is under 250 kb. I have imported the video file with the
On2 VP6 codec, chose the lowest quality settings, encoded the alpha
(I need this to be transparent) and when I go to publish it, I
choose all the lowest settings, lower the JPEG quality, choose
Windowless Transparent and put a keyframe every 120 seconds.
However, no matter what I do, the .swf file always comes out to 1.4
MB. No matter how low of settings I choose... or high for that
matter... the .swf is 1.4 MB, and it's beginning to drive me nuts.
I even tried the sorenson codec, but it was awful and hurt my eyes
to look at it... I can't remember what the file size for that was,
but I remember that it wasn't much lower than the On VP6, and
definitely not worth the loss of quality. Does anyone know why the
file size stays the same? Should I publish it as another extension,
or is there another way to import the video at a lower data rate,
or perhaps there is something in the publishing settings I am
    missing... please help!

Look up "Create Archive" in Mac Help. You can use the finder to create a compressed archive.
