I need to delete my old windows partition but it doesn't appear in disk utility

I can't find my windows partition it just shows as Macintosh HD. Although when I go into bootcamp it shows there is still 20gb assigned to windows but I screwed it up as I tried to extend the amount of GB I allowed to windows without reinstalling it. However I don't know what to do in Disk Utility now?
Please can someone help. thanks

Just realised I didn't mention...
I have had windows XP fully working on here before. However, I tried to extend the amount of GB I gave the windwos partition obviously there corrupting the partition so now I can no longer loads windows up. So I want to delete the partition and reinstall.
Yeah you messed up your system. You can't expand, shrink or in any other way do anything to the Windows partition as that will cause it to become non usable and then can't be removed and put back into the Mac partition.
Your only option now is to save all your files, with Time Machine or just copying them to an external drive, and Wipe/Erase/Re-Partition the complete drive and reinstall OS X Snow Leopard.

  • Windows partition not showing up in finder OR disk utility

doesn't snow leopard have ntfs support out of the box? Well I have windows 7 x64 installed via bootcamp, yet the windows partition will not show up in finder. I checked in disk utility and there is my macintosh HD, and a greyed out partition named disk0s4. It's 120gb, same size as the windows partion, but it says that it is FAT, which I know is not right. I even went so far as to to reformat the whole drive and reinstall both windows 7 and os x, and I am 100% sure it is a NTFS drive, even though it still will not mount in osx and it still says it's FAT in disk utility. What is going on??

Go to Finder > Preferences > General
Make sure External disks is selected.
Restart your Mac then connect the external drive.

If your phone is signed into your old iCloud ID ("email"), you need to delete the existing account then sign back in with your new ID.  To do this go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

To view it in an acceptable format, yes.  You can try using an opensource program such as OpenOffice or LibreOffice and see if it yields better results.  However, I'm sure if it would be compatible with a document made with word processing software from 9 years ago, but I would certainly give it a try.

Connect the iPod to your computer. Click on the iPod under Devices and iTunes. How large is the "other" category as shown in the colored bargraph? If larger than about 3/4 GB, restore the iPod. That large of "other" indicates corrupted files.

  • Bootcamp partition shows up as grey "disk0s4" in Disk Utility

    Hello everyone,
So I am a few days into this tiring and discouraging process of trying to get my iMac back to it's original working state. Here's to hoping for a solution:
Ever since I bought my iMac, I've been running OSX Mountain Lion with Win7 installed through BootCamp, without any problems. I recently wanted to increase my Boot Camp partition size from 80GB to 149GB because I was running low on disk space, and that was the start of many problems to come.
    Here's what I tried first:
Make a backup copy of my OSX partition through Disk Utility's "Restore" tab (onto external HD 1)
Make a backup copy of my Windows partition through "Create a system image" in Windows Control Panel (onto external HD 2)
Use WinClone to backup a copy of my Windows partition
Erase Boot Camp partition in Disk Utility
Resize Mac OS partition to max
Create new FAT partition (149 GB)
Restore WinClone backup to the FAT partition (hoping it'll "fill up" the remaining free space)
I don't remember all the details, but all of this led to Windows not being able to boot properly, and then soon after, OS X wouldn't work either. The built-in Recovery HD somehow became unusable and showed up as grey in Disk Utility (too chaotic to remember how). After much trial and error, I was left with the Mac's built in Internet Recovery option, which I used to reinstall OS X Mountain Lion (on top of the existing Mac partition). Afterward, I regained the Recovery HD, and resized the Mac OS X partition to cover over the unusable free space that remained.
    After that:
Ran Boot Camp Assistant to start the Windows installation process from scratch.
After the installation finished, I used "System Image Recovery" from a bootable Windows Recovery USB that I created.
Upon restart, Windows would not boot (which was fixed using the bootrec commands within Command Prompt off the USB).
This allowed Windows to boot fine, and it was exactly as it was before this all began.
Now, here are my current problems.
I believe the simplest way to achieve my original goal of extending my Windows partition would be to use Paragon's Camptune X, but upon running it, it tells me it can't find any Bootcamp configuration on my system.
While both OSX and Windows appear on the Startup Manager when I hold down the "option" key (which boot and run just fine), the "BOOTCAMP" partition that I would normally see in Disk Utility (under Macintosh HD) is now listed as "disk0s4", is grey, and "unmounted". It's also listed as MS-DOS (FAT), while it shows up as NTFS within Windows.
The Startup Disk preference pane lists Macintosh HD as the only choice.
I'm exhausted from the past week of repeated backup/reinstallations and trying to make this work. I've done my share of research and reading related forum threads, with no real solution. I am hoping "The hatter" will see this, as he's offered much info/advice on this topic on these boards, but I still haven't been able to resolve this issue.
Thanks for reading, anyone have any ideas?

By using Disk Utility to try to resize your Bootcamp partition you messed up your hard disk. You need to backup all your data from the disk, eraze and format your disk, and reinstall OSx, then if you want a new Bootcamp partition run Bootcamp Assistant.
Next time you want to resize the Bootcamp partition use CampTune, not Disk Utility.

what do you have? Version of iPhoto? Of the OS? How is the passport connected to your Mac? What format is the passport (for the iphoto library it must be Mac OS extended (journaled)  )?  The iPhoto library is not and can not be on the cloud (maybe later with the Photos Application)

I have an Icloud account set up on my Iphone which is outdated - I no longer have access to the password or email address.  I want to delete this and replace with my new and current Icould but it seems not to want to let me.

I have tried to access the support site to change my password but it will not accept my date of birth as personal ID so blocks me there.  I cannot reset the password by email as I no longer have access to the email address.

  • Wiping an old windows partition and reformatting it for an OS X backup?

I recently installed a new SSD on my 2008 macbook, and the old hard drive contained a Windows partition. Since Windows doesn't run off of a USB HD, i really have no use for it, and I would like to instead use the partition for a backup for my main mac OS. Is it possible to reformat this partition so it will be compatible with Mac OS X? Thanks!

Yes. Use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

  • HT1420 I recently got a new operating system on my two-year old windows computer, but itunes says that I need to authorize my computer and I already have authorized five computers.  I think I should deauthorize all but does that deauthorize my ipad and ip

I recently had a new operating system installed on my two-year old windows computer.  iTunes wants me to authorize my computer (again) and then says that I already have five computers authorized.  Should I deauthorize all?  Would that affect my iPad and iPhone?  I may have old, non-functioning computers that are still authorized and should be removed.

Your past purchases are not on the computer.   By choosing download all, those purchases will download to the computer.
Once authorized to your iTunes account you can control the computer.
When syncing the iPad the first time you will get the warning " this iPad is synced with another computer, syncing will erase all contents and replace with the contents of this computer"
Say yes, this is what you wan to do.

  • Need to delete the old page number from a combined file and replace it with the new number. is there a way for me to do that using JavaScipt

is there a way of using JS to delete the old page number (1,3,32,78) on a combined PDF and inset it with a new page numbers (1,2,3,4) Thank you

Depends. If the page numbers can be located by their location on the page then a script can be written to redact that area, and then add new page numbers in their place (or somewhere else).

  • I changed web hosts and can't publish through iWeb SEO Tool or Rage Site Map Automator. Do I need to delete the old site map?

I switched to iPage hosting since Mobile Me is expiring. Also recently upgraded to OS X 10.7.3 and am using iWeb 3.0.4 for my web site design. I published directly to the FTP from iWeb but all title tags, meta tags have disappeared and I'm not showing up in Google or others. I tried publishing from iWeb SEO but it couldn't complete the process.
Should I first publish to a folder as I did before with Mobile Me, then delete all old sitemaps and start over with the Site Map Automator and then try to publish from the SEO tool? Will I lose the key words and meta tags that are already in iWeb SEO?
    Thanks!

The problem is that most tech support people don't understand how iWeb structures a site.
When a visitor types in "domain-name-com" the browser expects to find an index.html in the root folder on the server. In "normal" websites the index.html file is the first page of the site.
The iWeb index.html file is a redirect to the first, or landing, page of the site which is the one at the top of the left column in iWeb just below the site name.
    iWeb produces two index.html files.
One is outside of the folder containing the rest of the files and directs to - folder-name/home-page-name.html
The other one is inside the folder and directs to - home-page-name.html
You have two choices of how you upload the files since you are publishing to a local folder.
You can upload the whole folder plus the external index.html to the root folder on the server and the URL to any page will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/site-name/page-name.html
If you upload the contents of the site folder, and not the folder or the external index.html, the URL will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/page-name.html
See this page for more info and the warning about breaking the RSS feed....
