I need to download Office but I don't have a CD rom

I have a Mac Book Pro with the latest OS. I need to download Office for Mac on it but there is no drive. I went to the Apple store in Shanghai and they said they only sell the CD. Can I buy it from the Apple store online or does the store sell it in voucher/download packs?

  • HT1444 Need to download Xcode but I don't have OS X 10.7.3

I currently have Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 and I want to download Xcode from the Mac App Store but it won't let me because I need OS X 10.7.3. How do I do this? Will I have to purchase it?

You can't run Xcode 4 on Snow Leopard, and as far as I can tell Apple don't support or offer downloads of Xcode 3.2 anymore. In any case, there wouldbn't be much point in developing in Xcode 3 as whatever you build may not run on the latest Apple hardware or software (OS X and iOS).
Short story, I'm afraid, is upgrade to Lion if you want to do app development.

Hold the Option key down and restart. Select one of the drives that comes up and hit the Return key.

If the phone is Activation Locked the phone is useless to you. There is no way around Apple's antitheft feature. To check this go to Settings/iCloud and turn off Find my iPhone. If it asks for a passcode for an Apple ID that is not yours it is still Activation Locked, and there is a high probability it is stolen.

  • Disk needs to be repaired, but I don't have the OS X installation disc.

My MacBook Pro has been slow and crashing so I verified the HD. "Disc utility stopped verifying Macintosh HD. This disk needs to be repaired". I don't have the OS X (snow leopard) disc here, I don't have any friends with Macs nearby, and I'm not near an Apple store. Is there anything I can do? I will be able to get the disk tomorrow, but I need to finish a project today.
Also, if it makes any difference, before this Pages stopped working and I couldn't get it going even after Community help, then I tried to download OS X mountain Lion and couldn't get it to complete the upload, but I couldn't find a reason why even after checking the community board's answers to other people.
    Thanks for any help.

Downloading Mt Lion will only cause more problems, because a lot of present software (and hardware drivers for printers, scanners etc) you might have will not work with it.
You will not be able to get a disk today, the disk you need is only available from Apple by calling them on the phone.
You have to find out your exact Mac model, like MacBook Pro 3,1 for instance, because the free MacTracker will tell you something very important, the version of OS X that came with the machine.
You see Intel Mac's that came originally with 10.6.2 or earleir can use the 10.6.3 white retail disk (sans the free iLife) which is easy and cheaper to get. Even Amazon will carry that if your in a rush and willing to pay more.
Mac's that came with 10.6.3+ need machine specific versions that can take longer to get from Apple, could cost more and include the free iLife suite.
If your machine came with 10.5, then the 10.6.3 white retail disks will do and you can extract iLife from the 10.5 disks with Pacifist from CharelsSoft in case it comes to a reinstall.
To boot from the 10.6 disk, hold c or option key down.
However if your computer can't be repaired via the disk, you might have to backup, erase and install 10.6 again.

  • HD corrupt and needs to be repaired but I don't have startup disk?

I have an early MBA and recently it has taken up to 3 minutes plus to boot up so I checked in Dick Utility and got the following message when I went to verify disc:
    Invalid directory item count
It should be 32 instead of 31
The Volume Macintosh HD was found courrupt and needs to be repaired.
Error: The disck needs to be repaired...use Disk Utility to repair this disk.
Okay so it appears I need to boot up this MBA with the boot up disc but for the life of me I can't find it. I have other start up discs form my MacBook pro and the flash drive for my new MBA. Any suggestions what I can do? Can I use the disc from my Mac Book pro?
Thanks for any suggestions of where to go from here.

A Snow Leopard disk should work, though you should run Disk Utility from the Installer menu and do a disk repair on the hard drive. If it repairs successfully, you might not have to reinstall SL. If it can't successfully repair, then you'll probably need to erase the drive and then reinstall.
    Regards.

  • I want to reset my Macbook Pro back to factory condition because I want to completely eradicate Mackeeper which the previous owner (it is preloved) had downloaded. But I don't want to lose the Microsoft Office that she had installed previously. Help?

I recently bought a pre-loved Macbook which has been sparsely used but I only realised Mackeeper was installed after I got back home. I did a thorough check previously before I bought it but I didnt know what Mackeeper was until I checked it out online. I want to get rid of it completely and the only way to do that is to reset my Macbk to factory mode but by doing so, I will delete Microsoft Office too and the previous owner had lost the key product no and the neccessities to reinstall the software. I have seen others say something about moving it to an external hard drive but I don't have one and I think it would be costly? Please, any experts on this matter come forward and give your best opinions. Thanks!

    Software type: OS X 10.9.2

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
1a. If you don't own another Mac
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
1b. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    2. Partition and install OS X
If you see a lock screen when trying to boot from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In thePartition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
    3. Other issues
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information.

  • My mac is a version 10.5.8. I just downloaded ios7, and it is telling me I need to download iTunes 11 to connect to my phone, but I don't have a new enough version. What do I do?!

My mac is a version 10.5.8. I just downloaded ios7, and it is telling me I need to download iTunes 11 to connect to my phone, but I don't have a new enough version. What do I do?! I think snow leopard was the last update I purchased.  Is there a way to convert my phone back? I need to be able to update it, but don't have the money for a new computer.. Help!

10.5.8 is Leopard, not Snow Leopard. Leopard ran on both PPC and Intel Macs, but Snow Leopard runs only on Intel Macs. iTunes 11 will run on Snow Leopard, though I'm not sure whether iOS7 requires a higher system (Apple seem to specify only itunes 11 and not an OSX system so you may be OK). However if your Mac is a PPC you cannot proceed; if it's an Intel one you can purchase Snow Leopard in the Online Store (search for Snow Leopard to find it quickly) - it's not expensive. It's not possible to roll your phone back to iOS6.

    Hi tinashah817,
Was this book downloaded using iBooks, or from another application? If it was from iBooks you will need to install that application to delete it.
See this article about managing your iBooks library on your iPhone -

Once the book has been deleted from the iPhone you can uninstall the iBooks application if you so desire.

  • HT1338 Yesterday, I purchased Mountain Lion OSX and tried to download it but I don't think it worked.  How can I tell if I am using Mountain Lion and how do I get help if the download was unsuccessful?

Yesterday, I purchased Mountain Lion OSX and tried to download it but I don't think the download worked.  How can I tell if I am using Mountain Lion and how do I get help if the download was unsuccessful?

Click your Apple menu icon top left corner of your screen.
From the drop down menu click About This Mac.
If Mountain Lion is installed, it will say:  v10.8
If not, launch the App Store. From the App Store menu bar click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads
FYI ..  for downloading Mountain Lion from the App Store, a high speed (broadband) internet connection is strongly recommended by Apple as noted here > iTUNES STORE - MAC APP STORE - TERMS AND CONDITIONS
If you need to reinstall OS X or repair the the startup disk Mountain Lion Recovery, that requires broadband access to the internet via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet connection. OS X is downloaded over the internet form Apple when OS X Recovery is used for reinstallation.
