  • We have non admin users on Windows 7. They change the homepage and it works for that session. When they close the browser, and restart it again the default homepage is shown.

    Windows 7 Sp3. Using Firefox 7.01
    Non admin users.
Can change homepage to whatever they like and it will work.
BUT when they close firefox and open it again the home page goes back to default setting

    Update.
    This looks to be a mozilla.cfg setting. If I take out the pref("browser.startup.homepage","ourwebpage");
it loads the basic firefox "FirstPage"
How do I get around adding a default homepage that can be changed by the user?
    I have tried adding
defaultPref.. .. then the webpage info.. BUT it retrurns a Failed to read the configuration file. Please contact your system administrator.
Do I need to create a prefs.js file?
And if I do how do I get it to work for each new user that logs into that machine?

  • HT202213 multiple admin users on one iMac using central iTunes library & Merging iTunes accts

    Hi guys.
Instead of just trying to share itunes across several devices. i'm also trying to share itunes and one library across multiple users of one iMac without having to ask for permission everytime somebody wants to listen to music.
Also, since starting a family, we'd like to combine our separate itunes accounts into one master account for the household. is there any way to merge itunes accounts and permissions for songs and apps?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thnx

You can't merge iTunes accounts, purchases are tied to their respective Apple ID.
Not sure about the other, you'd be better off posting to the iMac or iTunes section.

  • The administrator account on my iMac has been changed to standard account somehow. How do I change it back to Admin. without any admin account to put password in with..?

I have an iMac 21.5 Intel based comp. running Lion 10.7.3

Somehow you managed to demote the only admin account, despite the safeguards in place to prevent it. I don't remember ever seeing that before. I'd be curious to know how you did it, and why.
    Option 1
If you've enabled root logins, log in as root and promote the other user to an admin.
    Option 2
Boot from your recovery partition (command-R at startup) and restore your system from the last Time Machine snapshot taken before the damage was done, if you know when that was.
    Option 3
Back up all data, then boot in single-user mode. When the text stops scrolling, follow the prompts to make the boot volume writable. Then enter the following command:
    ls /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
You should get the following line of output below what you entered:
    /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
If you do, then very carefully enter the following command:
    rm !$
Now you should get no output. Then enter
    reboot
The system will boot into the Setup Assistant, as if you were setting it up for the first time. Create a user with the same name as the old admin user. Log in and test. I'm not sure what will happen to your other user accounts, if any. You may need to recreate them.

    suresh.m2015,
It's going to be impossible for anyone in this forum to help with your issue if you don't provide any more detail about your environment and Apex installation. However, from your post it looks like the Apex database objects are missing or invalid.
Did you follow the Apex installation guide step by step? For example, did you run apexins.sql?
It's important to follow the documentation. The script you are running to change the admin user password should not be run until after the Apex installation is complete.

  • 2 Admin users, 2 seperate AppleIDs.  Wrong AppleID when trying to download an app

My husband and I are both admin users on our iMac with two seperate AppleIDs.  When I try to download an app on my user account, it asks for his password and not mine. It will not let me input my AppleID. I can not figure out how to fix this!

Each app is permanently linked to the Apple ID that was used to acquire it. It can only be updated when you are signed in to the store with that ID.

  • I am logged in as Admin user, but cannot unlock and change system settings-why?

I am the admin user on my iMac with OS-X 10.7.5. When I open up system preference and try to change anything, the lock on the bottom won't unlock. What gives?

Bizzare... it fixed itself. Same password.
I noticed that the time was off by about 20 mins and wanted to adjust, but couldn't unlock the system preferences. The time & date preferences suggested turning on the wi-fi (I normally use a cable to connect to the internet) and when I did the date & time synched itself.
After that, I was messing around under the desk and accidentally switched off the power strip. When I rebooted, I went into the preferences, and low & behold, the lock was unlocked. I can lock & unlock it (with prompt for admin password) normally.
    Strange.
Everything is working the way its supposed to, but I am going to get replacement disks from AppleCare anyway just in case.
    Thanks for the advice.

  • Cannot change admin user to standard user (2 Admin Accounts)

I have an issue that I would like some help with.  When I purchased my iMac a few years ago, I created one user account and just started using my computer.  I am trying to implement a few Safe Computing practices by creating a new Admin user account and changing my original user account to a Standard user.
For some reason, I cannot change either of the accounts to a standard user after I type in the password.  I've logged in as both and tried to change the other user profile to a standard user, but the checkbox is greyed out on both of the Admin User accounts.
I can create a new standard user, but I have everyting set the way I like it on my current Admin user account.  It would be much easier to have a new Admin User account and "Downgrade" my original Admin account to a standard user account.
Any thoughts on why the option to change from an Admin user to a standard user would be "Greyed Out"?  The support articles walk me through, what should be a few simple steps, but I can not change the settings because the checkbox is greyed out.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts, suggestions, ideas....

In a way it makes sense that the original Admin Account can;t be changed. If a user changed that account to non-admin and that was the only admin account it would be  a mess to undo it. I agree that there should be some indication of this and even the ability to over rider  it in a case like yours.
As there isn't the next best thing will be for you to duplicate the current admin account as a new user account and then use that duplicated account.
See How to copy a user account for instructions on how to duplicate an account.
post back if you have any questions.
    regards

  • While in the root directory trying to reset my admin user i tried the input of commands that included launchctl list and was informed it was invalid and could'nt be loaded

my admin acct was changed to standard i tried the actions to update in root but rthe launchctl was unaccepted also the nicl - raw didnt work any ideas

That situation went from inconvenient to complicated quickly.  Wait for any pending orders to drop off, wait for things to clear up, wait till your upgrade comes up and then upgrade when your contract is fulfilled.  I would have suggested a replacement phone, I know, with only a month left why couldn't you just upgrade early, but these situations where people try to upgrade early always end horribly and once a phone order starts, it almost cannot finish until something winds up shipped received and returned.  Sorry this happened the way it did.  Definitely not efficient.

  • While starting my iMac after new hard drive installed, I created a admin user, I then pulled over a backup from an external hard drive that brought over the previous admin user settings. Need to merge to old user with the new user

I had to replace the hard drive in my iMac. Upon initial start up, I created a admin user name and password. Then I connected a WD external hard drive that had a back up of my orginal HD. Upon running Migration Assistant and pulling over the back up I found it pulled over the ORIGINAL user & security information from the original hard drive. In order to see iPhoto or iTunes libraies I must sign on to the "Old" user.
I want to Merge old and new users into only 1 user or delete the original user however need to have the iPhoto/iTunes libraies accessable by the "New" user.

Your best bet is to start over, by restoring your entire system to the exact condition it was in.  Otherwise, the transferred user account probably won't have permission to its backups.  See the pink box in Problems after using Migration Assistant for an explanation.
See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14 for details on how to do the restore.

  • Help needed unmanaging the Local 10.6.2 client admin user

Hi. I have a local user on all my client machines called admin with admin rights. Have had this same user with same password for many years for our machines. over 300 client machines from emacs to intel macs. With the 10.6.3 server update (major issues for the last 2 months) with 10.6.2. intel imac clients, logging in as admin gives me a reduced dock. just finder and trash. Every use of any applications comes up with "you dont have permission to use the application "xyz". with 3 buttons Always Allow, Allow once and OK. entering admin and password always results in a second box with the same message. entering admin and password then allows me to use it. This behaviour does not happen on 10.5.8 clients and has never happened before.
In system preferences it says administrator, admin is managed. clicking the lock and authenticating allows me to access the tick for Enable parental controls. If I click on the tick to remove it, it comes up with the message. "You cannot enable parental controls for an adminstrator account. Create a new user account etc." It is unticked but the tick comes back on restarting the system preferences and even restarting the computer immediately.
I have tried deleting managed prefs etc but to no avail. I have tried removing the computer from the network account server and I get my dock back and can use applications but it still says I am a managed user. and I need the network account server for student logins. Any thoughts how to unmanaged local admin users on client machines to get back to the way it has been since 10.2.4 clients!!!

Same problem here. Have you found a solution for this? I have tried to delete the entry for the local admin in /library/Managed Preferences and all caches, but it just keeps coming back.
I had it happen on a 10.5.8 Powerpc also. This was after our servers were upgraded to 10.6(now 10.6.4)

  • Need help with deleting and resetting admin user

I have a problem with the admin user on my computer. Here's the background: My computer started making popping noises. I found that the popping stopped when I switched to a different user account. I have repaired permissions and reset the PRAM, but this did not fix the problem.
Can I fix this user problem by deleting some or all preference files, or by some other means?
Or...how do I set up a new admin that has all my old settings and files from my original admin? I have never done this before and am very nervous. I have charged ahead to fix things before and then discovered that I erased important files! so I am going to be patient (sort of) this time.
I have a backup of the drive that my user data is on, as well as a clone of it for booting.
Any suggestions on ways to make this less painful are appreciated.
    Nathan

    Nathan:
    Here is what I suggest:
    1. Create an admin account that will be strictly an admin account. i.e. you won't be using it for anything else but to administer your computer. Here's how:
Go to the Apple Menu, System Preferences, and open up the Accounts panel. Click the to add an account, and check the box to let that user "Administer this computer." You are temporarily creating a second admin account. Be sure you give it a good password and that you remember it! Now, log out. Don't just do a fast user switch. Log out completely, then log into the new admin account you just created. Go back to System Preferences, Accounts, and find your original user. Uncheck the box for that account that allows it to administer the computer. You've now changed your regular account into a Standard account and you've created a new admin account that you'll hardly ever use. That's the point: only use the admin account when you absolutely need to.
Log out of the new Admin Account and into your former Admin Account, now Standard account. Check your access to the folders in your account. If you get notes telling you that you do not have sufficient privileges that can be corrected.
Post back and let me know.
    Good luck
