ATA bus error means that data corruption occurred during transmission over ATA bus (SATA or PATA). This type of errors can be indicated by
ICRC or ABRT error as described in the section called “ATA/ATAPI device error (non-NCQ / non-CHECK CONDITION)”.
Controller-specific error completion with error information indicating transmission error.
On some controllers, command timeout. In this case, there may be a mechanism to determine that the timeout is due to transmission error.
Unknown/random errors, timeouts and all sorts of weirdities.
As described above, transmission errors can cause wide variety of symptoms ranging from device ICRC error to random device lockup, and, for many cases, there is no way to tell if an error condition is due to transmission error or not; therefore, it's necessary to employ some kind of heuristic when dealing with errors and timeouts. For example, encountering repetitive ABRT errors for known supported command is likely to indicate ATA bus error.
Once it's determined that ATA bus errors have possibly occurred, lowering ATA bus transmission speed is one of actions which may alleviate the problem.
I'd also add; make sure you have good backups when ATA errors are frequent

  • Can you and will you fix the "plug-in container" using so much memeory problem? I like using firefox, but if this keeps going on I am going to have to start using something like Chrome or going back to I/E.

I use the latest version of Firefox, I run Windows XP on an older computer and the last two updates have included a "plug-in container" that use way too much memory when running a Flash based app. Can and will you be fixing this soon, I have "Googled" the problem and it seems pretty rampant, there are a lot of people having the problem and some who have left Firefox for Chrome, I enjoy using Firefox but if the problem continues I will have to find something else myself.

  • Whatwhere is the plug-incontainer? happened to the plug-in container? it disappeared with the latest version and now firefox freezes multiple times each day.

I don't see the plug-in container in the Windows Task manager since the last update of Firefox and now FF is freezing multiple times a day (since the previous update, before yesterday's). It takes several minutes after I see this until it unfreezes, and it's quicker to "end task" and re-start Firefox than wait. This most often seems to happen when the computer's been idle for awhile, rather than when I'm using it.

Make sure that you allow the plugin-container process in the firewall.

  • After Update to 19.0, Crash Frequently and Plug-in Container Issues

Ever since I updated to FF 19.0, I noticed that FF crash more often than usual, without any reason (I was in the middle of reading a website). And also the plug-in container for Adobe Flash kept consuming high cpu usage, thus slow down or even freeze FF. I have to end it before FF back to normal.
Am I the only one has problem or it's a bug in FF 19 waiting to be fixed?
Any suggestions/comments are much appreciated. Thank you.
PS: No add-on has been added, and I have cleared cache often.

  • I m using FF 6.0.2. I check in the Process (task manager) plug-in container using up 78% of CPU. why? i m gonna leave the FF.

i m using FF from a long time. Now FF rated like a 3rd class browsers.
full cpu usage, system halt, and generating many other probs.
    Plz check the Plug-in container.
    i m using 2 plug-ins Fire bug & greasemonkey

I am facing this issue since FireFox 5, 6.01 and now 6.02.
I have tried the following steps:-
    1) Upgrade to 6.0.2 and update to latest plugin/add-on
    2) Uninstall and Install only FireFox
    3) Uninstall, Remove FireFox Folder and Install only FireFox
    4) Uninstall, Remove FireFox Folder, Delete Registry and Install only FireFox
All of the action above does not even resolved it. CPU will still Spike to 78%.
Average CPU usage when submitting a request is about 46% ~78%
By the way, I am running on Windows XP SP3, and 4GB RAM.
Please advice what can be done.

  • Firefox/plug-in container eats all cpu and ram only flash plug-in installed no theme new profile new windows install still can't fix

I've been through hundreds of posts in the last year. back then all of a bloody sudden firefox starts eating my computer. 500+mb of use ram during normal browsing.
Decent cpu use at around 25% but if i turn on youtube it hits 80% for about 6 mins then it's 97% to 100% and it's always in constant motion between those 4 values.
playing any game which uses flash or java quickly become unplayable and I've seen it hit 1gb+ ram use.
turning off flash protected fixed youtube but it's unsafe so need a different fix. and I'm out of ideas for everything else. I.E same problem, chrome is even worse than FF, and opera won't even run. so what do i do now

    1. it's wrong I have the current version 12. something.
    2. just firefox not even counting the plug-in container.
    3. the laptop is old almost 4 years, 1.93 GB of ram, only antivirus begins at start up, linux is something I'd rather not mess with a couple stupid people use my computer, and i have an intel celeron 900 2.20 GHz single core.
you sounded condescending careful it's far more telling than you realize.

  • Firefox is locking up and the problem appears to be related to plug in container. Is there a fix for this?

Using Windows XP, one tab open in Firefox, selected an item on the webpage, loading icon appeared and kept going, closed Firefox, tried to open Firefox, message that Firefox still running, closed firefox.exe using Task Manager, able to run Firefox again. This has been happening a lot lately and I don't remember it happening in previous versions of Firefox.

Firefox uses plugin-container.exe to run Flash and other plugins. The theory is that if the plugin were to crash, it would not crash all your tabs, just any active plugins. Are you getting a message that a plugin crashed?
If I understand the problem correctly, Firefox is hanging or freezing when trying to open a link, and you are exiting Firefox, after which it won't start up again until you kill firefox.exe in the Task Manager.
Have you noticed any pattern to when Firefox freezes or stalls?
How are you exiting Firefox (for example, from the menu vs. red X button vs. Ctrl+Alt+Delete)?

  • How do I fix firefox, which hangs when plug in container starts?

Firefox hangs or freezes & I can't click on anything when plug in container shows up (see it in task manager).

There are some compatibility issues between the latest Flash player and some Firefox add-ons or settings. Flash 11.3.300.257, in particular, can cause crashes. Please check out these articles:

  • Why do I keep getting a Norton AV pop up message "High CPU useage for plug in container on Firefox"?

Norton keeps giving me a lower right hand pop up comment “High CPU usage for plug in container on Firefox." Is there something I need to set to fix this? Should I be concerned? Sometimes this occurs with no other application running.

IMO, the detection threshold is set too low in that Norton app. Contact Norton support to find out how to set it higher, or how to turn it off.
Or quit using Norton. ''I hate the garbage they sell. IMO, it is good for one thing, making money for retailer's and for helping PC techs make money fixing what it does to PC's their customers bring in for repairs.''

  • Hangs, severe slowness and lock-ups running Firefox 27.0 / 28.0 on Windows XP / Is it possible to block plug-in container?

Been experiencing severe slowness and lock-ups with Firefox of late, which ends with a sudden drop in memory usage and me having to repeatedly shut it down through Task Manager. I have created a new profile and disabled hardware acceleration. I have tried disabling all plug-ins and extensions, yet I noticed that at times (not always) plug-in container was still an active process, which I don't understand. Why would it be active when there are no enabled plug-ins? I also noticed that when plug-in container is not active (showing under Processes in Task Manager) I do not have this problem and Firefox runs normally? I need to block plug-in container. Please help.

I have just tried on Windows 7 and used process explorer on that. I would expect the results to be displayed in a similar manner on Windows XP.
Plugin-container is shown as being run from Firefox, and in turn if I mouse over or left click the line for plugin-container .exe then under ''command line'' it tells me what is running, in my case at this instance it is Flashplayer and so it displays
    .... \Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_12_0_0_77.dll .... plugin ....
It is identifying it is FlashPlayer
The worry with your apparently unknown operation is that within the plugin-container it may be safe but if plugin-container is disabled maybe it could be malware and cause a problem.

  • When I send an email in Thunderbird it looks fine, but when the recipient tries to print it, the font is unreadablly small. Is there a setting I need to fix?

I have Thunderbird version 24.3.0 downloaded to my Windows 7 computer.
When I send an email in Thunderbird it looks fine and when the recipient receives it, it looks fine on the screen, but when she tries to print it, the font is unreadably small. This happens on every email I send her, but not other people's emails she receives. It has happened on some of the emails I receive back from her that contain the information I sent her.
Is there a setting I need to fix or something I can do on my end to address this so this doesn't happen. She is receiving email through AOL online. I believe she is viewing it through either IE or Chrome.

I recently tried sending myself an email through Thunderbird to another email account to see if that was the case, but the email came in with a font so tiny that it was unreadable. I had chosen a font type and size (arial 10) and just coming into my outlook inbox was virtually unreadable.
And referring to the person I work with, she doesn't have problems getting anyone else's emails, just ones I send from Thunderbird.

  • Not a question! Simple advice!!! DUMP the crap Plug In Container!

Fed up with constantly receiving "plug in container stopped responding" messages. This is undoubtedly the worst idea you guys have had! Ever!
It always seems to happen about seven eighths of the way into a movie or other event that I'm trying to watch.
Firefox IS up to date but I'm not sure this is a good thing either since some of my codecs which worked great previously are listed as "incompatible!"
    FIX IT!!!!!

I'm trying to figure out what plugin(s) the problem page is using.
Are there other pages on the site (same host name, e.g., www.example.com) that do not lock up Firefox? If so, please open one of those pages and then switch all the plugins to "Ask to Activate" for the site. Here's what I mean:
Click the padlock or globe in the address bar and then click "More Information". At the top of the Page Info dialog, click Permissions. Then, in the plugins section, click "Always Ask" for each one and close the dialog.
The next time you visit the problem page, Firefox should show a bar telling you which plugin needs to be activated. Actually, this might not kick in until after you exit and start Firefox up again.

  • Why do I have to run the plug-in container in my processes constantly in this version? It takes up too much memory!

The earlier version of Firefox did not run this plug-in container. Every time I would remove it from my processes it would kill videos etc. But, it was all fine in the older version of Firefox, so why the change? So I chose not to update Firefox. Then, the other day, I saw that is was automatically downloading and I turned off my computer because it wouldn't stop and I didn't give permission. When I got home I could not use Firefox and it took me hours to figure out how to get the internet back. Then I got Firefox back and this stupid process is running again. It takes up too much memory. I don't like a bunch of extra processes running like that. So, why can't I just use the old version? Is this process absolutely necessary?

In the past the memory usage would end up as part of the Firefox program. Now with OOPP you can see it as a separate process and that makes it more noticeable.
You can disable OOP if you want.<br />
