I need to install Rosetta.

I need to install Rosetta but when the dialog box comes up and i click install, it does not install and insted stays the same. I don't have the disk so how can i install it?

You probably need a reasonably fast broadband connection to get anywhere with an online Rosetta grab - it runs to something a little short of 2GB, IIRC.
Are there any messages in the Console or system logs which refer to Rosetta when your unsuccessful grabs are attempted?
P.S. I'd personally be very reluctant to attempt running a Mac, or, indeed, any other machine, without a system/restore disk. Probably the easiest way of fixing your problem, assuming that said problem isn't down to your network settings being snafu, is the acquisition of the aforementioned disk.

  • ITunes says it needs to install rosetta

All of the sudden, iTunes won't launch and Software Update says it needs to install Rosetta.  Never had to do that before.  Anyone know what's going on?  Could this be an issue created from the most recent update?

Instead of trying to update iTunes +from within iTunes+, go to Apple's page where you can download the iTunes 8.2.1 installation file -- save the file, don't run it direct from the download. Once downloaded to your computer, then run the installation file.
If that does not fix the problem, then remove the following software from your computer (you won't lose your music): iTunes, Quicktime, and something called "Apple Mobile Device Services". Once you remove those programs, then run the iTunes installer file (from above) again. That will install all three of these programs and should fix your problem.

  • I keep getting an error message "To open X1100 Series Button Monitor, you need to install Rosetta".  I used to have a Lexmark X1100 printer attached to this Mac.  How can I stop this error?

I just had a new hard drive put in my IMac and ever since I got it home this error pops up "To open X1100 Series Button Monitor, you need to install Rosetta.  Would you like to install it now?  Two years ago I had a Lexmark printer attached to this Mac.  I'm not sure why this is happening as I believe I have move all Lexmark files to the Trash bin.  Does anyone know how I can stop getting this error?  Thanks.

Check in System Preferences> Printers to see if the Lexmark is still showing in your printer list. If it is, click it and hit the minus button to remove it.
If it's not showing, when you trashed the Lexmark software, did you notice if there was an uninstall file? Sometimes just moving unwanted programs to the trash can doesn't get rid of all of the installed software and the software manufacturers include an uninstall option to remove those 'hidden additional files'.
Check support at Lexmark's web site to see if they offer a solution.

  • To open ScanNotification you need to Install Rosetta

    Hello.
I just upgrade my Mac with Snow Leopard and every time I turn on the computer I get the following message:
To open ScanNotification, you need to install Rosetta.
To install Rosetta, connect to the Internet and open ScanNotification. If you cannot connect to the Internet, insert your Mac OS X installation disc, open the Optional Installs folder, and double-click Optional Installs.
I read that Rosetta is for older PowerPC so I dont understand why I'm getting that error.
I inserted the disc and went to optional, and the Rosetta part was marked as Skip
    I will appreciate any help
    Thank you.

    Hi,
Rosetta is an emulator that allows you to run ppc applications on an Intel machine. It's only 2mb and it does no harm to install it.
I believe the Scan Notification message is related to Norton's antivirus software, which must be a ppc application - If it is the cause, check with Nortons for an update.

  • HT3669 Unable to run the HP All-in-One Installer for LJ 3055 -- Error message says I need to install Rosetta

I have an HP LJ 3055 All-in-One.  Previously, I haven't used it connected to my Mac (i.e., only in 'standalone' mode).  I now want to use the unit's software for faxing and scanning purposes.
However, when I insert the CD that includes the HP All-in-One Installer, I see an error message saying:
"To open LaserJet AIO Installer, you need to install Rosetta.  Would you like to install it now?"
I assume this is related to the CD's having been produced contemporaneous with Tiger, not Snow Leopard -- though I have no idea why it's prompting about Rosetta, since this is a Macintosh installation CD.
Can anyone inform me what I need to do to install the software (i.e., to run the installer) under Snow Leopard, so that I can access the All-in-One's functions via the Mac?
    Thanks.  Replies appreciated.

Responding to two of your posts here...
Thanks.  It wasn't (and still isn't) clear to my why I was getting the prompt about installing Rosetta.  While using the unit with Tiger, I never saw anything about a need for Rosetta (i.e., nothing indicating that any of the software on the CD was pre-Intel).
Printing continues to be available from the Mac but nothing else is supported via the computer.  Scan, fax and copy are available only directly from the unit.
Funny that this can happen with a unit that continues to work perfectly well, without a hitch.  You'd think that OS upgrades would, if anything, enhance software control of a unit -- rather than eliminate it completely.
★ Is there any reason to think that going the 'Rosetta' route would restore the lost functionality (in 10.6.8)? ★
    Thanks.
The reason you were getting the prompt about installing Rosetta now is because Rosetta was automatically installed on OS X 'Tiger' 10.4 and 'Leopard' 10.5. HP didn't mention it as a requirement, because at the time, it was already there and invisible.
Rosetta became an optional install on OS X 10.6, because (I presume) the number of programs and devices still using pre-2006 PowerPC code and thus needing Rosetta, was in steady decline. Why add extra clutter to (this is my guesstimate) 85% of the Macs running Snow Leopard that DO NOT need Rosetta?
In my opinion, it cannot hurt to install Rosetta now.
Only programs (your HP drivers) that REQUIRE Rosetta will even attempt to use it.
The scan fax and copy functions don't work now with Snow Leopard, so at worst, they still won't work.
You can always delete Rosetta again if you need the disk space.

If I correctly understand how Rosetta worked, it created an emulation environment in which certain software (including 'multifunction printer' drivers) would work, the implication being that these software products were not specifically written for the Mac OS.
However, wouldn't those drivers still also have to be supported by the Mac's currently-installed OS in order to work -- as they were in Tiger and Leopard (but are not in Snow Leopard)?

  • I just installed 10.2.2. When I tried to start iTunes, I got the message that Rosetta needed to be installed to open iTunes. It downloaded and installed Rosetta but iTunes will not open and it no longer has the iTunes icon. What do I do now?

I installed iTunes 10.2.2. When I tried to open it, I got the message that iTunes needs to install Rosetta to open. It then appeared to download and and install Rosetta. When I try to open iTunes, the icon bounces but iTunes does not open. The icon has also changed from the usual iTunes icon. What do I do now?

I have a 2010 MBP15 which I do not use as much as my pc. When I do, I check for updates and I believe I updated iTunes to 10.2.2 a week or so ago. Since I still use iTunes primarily on my pc, I didn't bother firing up the updated iTunes on the mac.
Last week, when I actually started iTunes on the mac, I got the message that Rosetta needed to be installed. Like abefighter I stalled. I surfed the net, read this thread to get some hints as to w** was going on.
When I checked the system profile in the mac, I think it showed PowerPC for 'kind.' Surfing the Internet I found out Rosetta was something needed to help applications work on PowerPCs. But wait, since this MBP is an Intel, why would or should it be asking me for some stone-age plug-in that was never mentioned in all the previous updates for iTunes until now? Fyi, the iTunes icon on the dock had changed to what I think is an AppleWorks icon.
So, I assumed that the update that resulted in my mac was corrupted. At first I scoured for 10.2.1, thinking that the last version was a dud, but in vain, nowhere to be found. I gave up and settled for a fresh 10.2.2. I did a casual delete, without touching any of the related personal preference files in my folder and it now which works fine. I'm glad I didn't jump to install Rosetta; I read elsewhere about someone who actually went through with the Rosetta install that resulted unhappily.
Unless the mac in question is a PowerPC, I would doubt the need for Rosetta installation.

  • Installing Rosetta via command line?

Is it possible to install Rosetta via the command line? I have a mac that I have ssh and administrative access to and need to install rosetta to run an application. I know that Rosetta can be installed over the internet when using the GUI interface to the OS, but can this be done using the command line?
    Thanks!
    -jmj75

I think what you are asking is not possible. If you did not install Rosetta you have two options, download from the web usually initiated by a program that needs it to run, or from your original install DVD --> Optional Installs package.

  • Installed Rosetta now Finder repeatably becomes unresponsive

Last night I migrated applications from my G5 iMac to my new Macbook Pro. Once this was complete I tried to fire up Photoshop I got the notice that I need to install Rosetta which I did.
Now I am having 2 problems:
1.) When I try and fire up Photoshop it bounces a couple times and then unexpectedly quits.
2.) When ever I try and navigate the applications folder Finders CPU usage spikes and becomes unresponsive requiring a relaunch.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Peruse Best Practices and Setup new Mac. Then, consider starting over, erasing the HD, reinstalling, and remigrating.

  • Install Rosetta.......?

I have just decided to reload my MacBook Pro and install Snow Leopard. Having completely updated all programs (OS, iLife etc) to the latest versions, I set about installing Office 2008 for Mac. The following messagebox is generated:
*+To open Office Installer, you need to install Rosetta. Would you like to install it now?+*
I am fairly sure that this message is new to me and had not appeared on a previous installation anyway, isn't it a "Universal" program? There are other similar reports about the same message being generated in respect of Garageband Jam Packs. Can anyone help me out here please, or is it correct?
    Many thanks

You have to install it on Snow Leopard if a program requires it. Rosetta was automatically included in the OS X install prior to Snow Leopard. It's now an optional install on the 10.6 DVD. That's why you are seeing the change in behavior now that you have Snow Leopard.
Also, Office 2008 doesn't run under Rosetta; it's only the installer/updater that needs it.
Office 2008 isn't the only program whose installer needs Rosetta, either. I was prompted to for it when I installed the drivers for my Epson 4490 scanner. As I already had Rosetta installed, I did not get the prompt you did when you tried to install Office 2008.
Rosetta doesn't run unless a program needs it, so just having it installed will not slow down your system.

  • New LaCie d2 Quadra and New MBP - Prompts to install Rosetta??

New MBP running Snow Leopard (2 weeks old) + new LaCie d2 Quadra 1 TB (2 days old). Just ran into a curious issue. I need some guru help. Plugged everything in and intended to do my first Time Machine backup. The LaCie set-up assistant causes this message to appear: "To open LaCie Setup Assistant, you need to install Rosetta. Would you like to install it now?" No I don't want to install Rosetta. Does this mean I need to format the LaCie external drive? I never had to do this on my old MBP or with countless other (older) LaCie drives. If I HAVE TO reformat the LaCie drive...ummm...could someone talk me through that process? Or point me to a page that gives a step by step guide? This should be easier. Thanks.

    I concur with Roger... I have 3 d2 Quadras...
“...simply erase the d2 formatting it in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using Disk Utility. Once done you have totally wiped it clean and reformatted... “
Have Never Used any Proprietary Software on any of my External Drives... and as a consequence have had NO Issues...

  • I have a MacBook Pro.  I am told that I can install AppleWorks on this Intel Machine. True or False? If true do I need to have Rosetta on the compuer?

I have an Intel MacBook Pro. I have been told I can install AppleWorks 6.2.9 on this machine. Is this correct? I read somewhere I would also need Rosetta but do not know if this is correct. If so how can i get Rosetta? I can presently open my old Appl;eWorks documents with Pages but my wife insist I try to get her AppleWorks back?
I had a copy of AppleWorks 6.0 from the old days but it would not install on my MacBook. A message came up saying Apple no longer supports OS9. I can purchase a copy of AppleWorks 6.2.9 but if it want install then I would be wasting my money.
    Thanks,  john

To install Rosetta you insert your initial Snow Leopard installation disk and double click optional install then double click the optional install package which will lead you through installing Rosetta. It is on the  install disk but is not installed by default.
Once you get Appleworks 6 working, assuming it then does, you can download the 6.2.9 update

  • What is the difference between OSX 10.6 and 10.6 server? I need to install Snow Leopard in a Parallels VM and it only allows 10.6 server. Will Rosetta work if I use the server edition?

I MUST use an app that was discontinued which requires Rosetta, yet I also want to upgrade to Mavericks. I was told that Parallels and VMWare Fusion both support running Snow Leopard SERVER, but not Snow Leopard. Two questions: Will Rosetta run on Snow Leopard Server when it is running inside the Parallels/Fusion/whatever virtual machine which is running under Mavericks? The second question is: Is there any problem with running any specific software in Snow Leopard Server when it is set up this way?

    Richard Cartledge wrote:
The problem with client as virtualised OS is the Apple EULA, not a technical one.
I don't know if it works, or you're just not meant to do it.
PS. If you download or have Snow Leopard DVD, you can install Rosetta in later OSs, certainly Lion and Mountain Lion and Mavericks.
insert your Snow Leopard disc, open the Optional Installs folder on that disc, and double-click the Optional Installs.mpkg package. The Installer will open and you’ll be prompted to click Continue a couple of times and then choose a destination for the installation. Choose your startup volume and click Continue yet again.
In the Custom Install on “nameofvolume” window that appears, enable the Rosetta option and click Continue. In the next window click Install to do just that.
NB/ I don't have any old software to test to see if it actually makes it work!
    WRONG TWICE!
Bad idea to attempt to install Rosetta into Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks and good luck trying to remove it after that attempt.  Result: NO powerpc app will run after that installation and you will have to complete a wipe of your hard drive and a complete pre-Rosetta install to get rid of Rosetta!
It was a common Urban Myth that the Snow Leopard EULA prohibited its virtualization in Lion or Mt. Lion on a Mac.  That myth has been largely debunked over the last two years.
In addition, Apple's release of Snow Leopard Server at a 95% discount ($20) has rendered the issue largely moot!
OP: what application are we talking about here?
For example here is the long beloved powerpc application Appleworks running in Snow Leopard Server installed in Parallels for use in a post Lion world:

  • How do I install Rosetta Stone onto my Macbook running OSX 10.8 when installing it I go into the folder called For MAC Users and the files in there are .exe files which cant be open on a Mac. If anyone has a solution or even a download link let me know.

This is really frustrating please let me know I looked around and all the downloads cost money and I would prefer if you guys could give me a free one but a solution would be even better!!

You have the Windows version of the software.  You will need to contact Rosetta Stone directly to get the Mac version of their software.  I can confirm it does install on Mountain Lion without issues.

  • Preflight Droplet asks to install Rosetta!???

    Hi,
Does anyone knows why Acrobat 9.3.4 Pro is asking me to install Rosetta on a Mac mini 2010 with Mac OS 10.6.4?
In Acrobat I created a new preflight profile and afterwards a droplet on my desktop for this profile.
The weird thing is that, as soon as I drop a pdf file on the icon, Mac OS asks me to install ‘Rosetta'.
Newest computer, newest OS and CS5. What is Rosetta doning here, I wonder?
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance,
    Johny

You may want to consider FlightCheck v6.75 which can preflight PDF files and the native source files alike (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, etc, etc). Since it is a desktop app, there is no need to create a droplet or the likes. Just download the 30-day demo, drag-and-drop your PDF, .INDD, .AI, .PS, .JPG, etc documents onto the FlightCheck icon and get an easy to understand preflight report.
You will want to maybe select one of the many preset PDF Preflight Profiles, which we call Ground Control sets or edit one to suit your quality assurance needs.
The beauty of FlightCheck is you do not need Acrobat or any of the native applications open or even on your machine. It is a stand-alone application.
For the record, as Peter has reminded me in the past, I come from the Markzware stables, the makers of FlightCheck and many other Creative Suite conversion tools. Acrobat postflight feature can be great, but FlightCheck is a true preflight work-horse across publishing and printing file formats.
