I need to know.. various things.

I want to transfer a photo album off the iPhone 3gs, not the camera roll, how am I supposed to do this without losing it?
I've tried 3rd party software it isn't leading me to a resolve, iTunes is too stupid to understand this concept from my
traversing it's software. I just want to take the ALBUM an copy it to the PC (no, not a mac, a PC) an while we're at this
lets specifiy Windows XP Pro full updates & SP's.
Also.. iTunes is quite the a$$hat to me, I had to format my pc an now it says my iPhone is sync'd with another libary.
I read somewhere there was supposed to be some "code" in the files within iTunes that at the time I was unaware existed
or I would've tried to copy it. Now I have no idea what files contained this code or if theres a way to get this code off the
iPhone itself, is that even possible? so it won't keep saying "erase & sync".
I need to know these things.. I'm tired of searching google for answers that aren't applicable or useful.

And I don't see why it's so hard for you to understand. Other than the camera roll Photo Sync is intended to be a one way street. PC>Phone.
You said 3rd party software didn't work for you. If that's the case, then you're out of luck.
You can NOT create an album on the phone. The only place you can place photos on the phone without syncing them is in the camera roll.
There is no magic code that is documented by Apple that you can use to convince your phone it's synced to the new library that was created when you installed iTunes on another computer. Even if there was YOU CAN'T MOVE PHOTOS other than those in the camera roll TO the PC FROM the iPhone using iTunes.
Apparently you did not have the common sense to back up the data on your computer BEFORE you went and formatted the drive.
It doesn't matter how angry or frustrated you get. It's not going to change reality.
If the software you tried to use didn't work, try something else. If you don't want to spend the money on software that will do the job, then you're out of luck.

It was not legitimately unlocked by the carrier it was originally locked to. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it.
In order to allow it to be used on a different carrier, the phone was hacked or jailbroken. An unauthorized modification was made to the phone. That modification has damaged the phone. You can not get support for it here or from Apple.

1. I think you mean reiserfs4: Reiserfs is no problem with the stock Arch Linux Kernel and the archck-kernel available in the extra repository. If you intend to compile your own kernel make sure you enable reiserfs if your config. But I personaly think it would bring you less problems if you start by using ext3 – you wouldn't see a huge difference in speed.
2. simply done by configuring your /etc/rc.conf file in the network section this way:
eth0="dhcp"
and your /etc/resolv.conf like this, substituting your nameservers' IPs and your domain name:
nameserver 61.23.173.5
nameserver 61.95.849.8
search example.com

MacBook Pro....things you need to know before you buy!!!

Helpful hints before you buy your MacBook Pro 15 or 17 inch:
1. New MacBook Pro...does not have a firewire 400 port!!. If you have to transfer data from an old (2 years old) MacBook Pro to new one...need a 800 firewire cable or a 400 to 800 cable!!
2. New MacBook Pro with HD Cinema 30 inch. The two items are not compatible unless you purchase the $99 Dual (not single), I repeat Dual..."Mini Display Port to Dual-Link adapter:

The reason I am posting this is that I bought a MacBook Pro 15 inch on Monday and I specifically told the Apple people at the store what I had: 2 year old MacBook Pro and Cinema HD and what I would need and they sold me the mini single adapter. Nothing worked. Went to the store 3 times and no one could help me. Finally a guy from Australia, on this forum, was able to answer my call for help!!! I actually had to take his email into the store and show it to the Apple folk and they finally got me the correct adapter. Today is Friday, 4 days later and I am finally able to work on a project that has been on hold while I figured out something fairly simple...so much for these "Apple genius people." Just think the problems I would have had if I had an older Mac laptop or a PC laptop?!?@!

To be fair, most of the Genius bar people are very good and your experience was probably not typical, but it is also worth remembering that some of us here have been using Macs since before some of the Geniuses were even born, so we often know a thing or two that they may not have cottoned on to yet! When in doubt, a second opinion here can often be well worth obtaining.

The most immediate thing you need to do is to call your credit card company and report the unauthorized charges. Your card company can contact Apple if they need additional information.
Next, log into your iTunes Store account and see if the purchases are reflected in the Purchase History. If they are, immediately change the password to your iTunes Store account, making sure it's not something easily guessed or looked up. Then go here:

and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store. Whether or not they'll do anything for you I don't know, particularly if you didn't change the password after your iPod was stolen.
If the charges are not reflected in the Purchase History, then it's most likely a fraudulent charge to your credit card directly rather than an unauthorized purchase through your iTunes Store account in which case it will be up to your bank to handle.

Things You Need To Know about old= New iMac

1) Your HP All-In-One printer/scanner/copier - will it work with this new Leopard iMac? Maybe. I struggled with the all-in-one Printer Scanner Copier PSC 2355 for hours, and that includes reading the discussion forums on Apple's website. Apple support will tell you to call HP. HP will tell you to call Apple, or to check back for updated drivers. This was unacceptable. I finally crossed my fingers and loaded HP drivers for "Tiger", the previous OS version. Hey, the PSC 2355 works perfectly. Hope you have success also.
(2) PPT and PPS files in email. If you do not have Microsoft Office and PowerPoint, you need to know this: iMac comes with a trial version of Keynote and a trial version of PowerPoint software. If you receive a PowerPoint slide show from a friend, and you click on it to view it in Mail, Keynote may open up, for the first month or so. But if you don't buy keynote, this will eventually stop working. If MS PowerPoint opens up, same trouble - it may work a month or so. On my machine, the trial version actually locked up the iMac at the "Splash Screen". And if you don't buy Keynote, MS PowerPoint or MS Office for Mac, then your last hope for seeing PPT and PPS files is "Quicklook" which doesn't step through slides one at a time, but presents them as a long document. Not so great. Our solution was (A) delete the trail versions, and (B) buy a family pack of iWork and then everyone gets Keynote. Too bad the PPT and PPS music doesn't work.
(3) Moving old iMac (circa 2001) files to new iMac. This worked very nicely and seamlessly - all the music, photos, passwords, bookmarks, email moved smoothly from old iMac to new iMac. Only thing is... I think some old crap also moved. Old stuff that will never work in Leopard such as OS 9 apps and games. Even found some old fonts moved. THUS, we received an error "Helvetica narrow substituted for Helvetica which is corrput". Apple support was useless, telling me to reinstall the entire system, which did not solve the problem. After reading Apple discussions, someone suggested copying the fonts from the system folder to the user's library folder. Problem goes away, all is well.
(4) Thus, once you get these kinks worked out, you will LOVE this new iMac. built in camera, mic, fantastic screen and color rendition, fast processor, wonderful iLife apps, and the whole experience. Hope my comments help you transition into your new Mac Life.

Developer's need to know things: Essbase as datasource for OBIEE

I am in a project where Essbase is the datasource. I know nothing about Essbase but I an experienced OBIEE prof. Can anyone tell me the things I need to know about integrating Essbase with OBIEE, using Essbase cubes in obiee. I looking for some basic fundamentals of Essbase so I could successfully use Essbase cubes with OBIEE.

Need to know if Adobe Elements can do 2 things before I purchase the program.

I am an artist. I make quilts and do oil paintings for friends and family. Iam interested in purchasing the Basic Adobe Elements program but I need to know if the program does two things that are very important in my work. First can the program do a reverse print of words and phrases and secondly can the program take a photo and do a tile print so that the basic photo can be inlarged to a much bigger size. For example can a photo be enlarged using tile pages from a 4x6 inch to a 2x3 foot size.

Thanks so much for your help. I know Adobe Photoshop can break up a photo into tiles for printing because my sister has this program. I was hoping this one could too becayse Photoshop is way beyond my needs and I hate to bother every time I need a photo enlarged. I use the enlargements to do oil paintings of my family, oh well.
Thank you also for your advice on doing the free trial as well. I will do that. I am intrested in why this time of year is special. Is it because Adobe brings out their new versions of their programs around now?

Things I need to know when swapping out old router with Airport Extreme?

Hi, having been given some good advice in other areas of this forum, I've decided to swap my current D-Link router with an Aiport Extreme. I recently added an Airport Express and Time Capsule to my current wireless network (as 'join current network wirelessly') hoping to avoid the changing or my current router. However it appears to get the best and most flexible performance I need to go that further step. I've not done this before, having had the network setup by the ISP. What do I need to know, be aware of prior to unplugging my current router? Like:
Should the airport extreme just 'work' once I plug it in? Other than the normal set up process. Or:
Will the cable modem (Motorola SBV5121) require reconfiguration or some form of sync with the router?
Will I need my password and ID from the ISP for the new router? I currently only have the the current router password - no idea what the ISP ID and password is, they were set by the guy installing - yes I know I should have written them down somewhere.
Any traps or challenges I need to be aware of that is not covered in the printed material?
I have heard ISP's will generally not assist with this as it is not viable for them to try and help, understandable. So I just wanted to be as prepared as possible.
Any thoughts or experiences or pointers to documentation would be greatly appreciated.

Why do you need a expensive MacBook Pro?
Your attending high school and unless everyone else is rich also your likely going to be a target by the more poorer students for theft or damage to the machine.
You could keep it home, but if you need it for class then your exposed again.
Also at that age your not very careful yet, a MacBook Pro is a expensive and easily damaged machine.
Unless your made of money and so are others at your school, I would recommned a low profile, just does the job cheap Windows PC.
If it dies, gets lost, stolen or damaged because of your inexperince handling senstivie electronics then it's no big deal.
You can buy a Mac later on when your sure you have a need for it, currently there isn't much advantage of owning a Mac compared to a PC, they do just about the same things now, one just looks prettier than the other.
Since 95% of the world uses Windows PC's your going to have to install Windows on the Mac in order to keep your skills up there or be unemployed, so it's a extra headache and expense.

I need to know the multitude of reason why my iPhone 5s would prompt me for my Apple ID password.
All I did was place my phone on the charger, I then walked away for 10-15mins and when I came back it was asking me to enter my Apple ID password.
I never gave my password out to anyone ever and hardly anyone knows my email address.
I haven't recently downloaded anything either and I only have one apple device which is my iPhone 5s.
I just want to know really if it could have been because someone was trying to log into my Apple ID?
Please help with multiple reasons why this could have happened. I just want to know the options. Thank you

My iPhone 5s did the same thing yesterday. I have iCloud backup turned on in Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup and that means it will automatically do a backup when the phone is plugged in, locked and connected to wi-fi. I had it charging and when I returned it was asking for the password and the prompt did identify that it was requesting it for the iCloud backup (something you may not have noticed if you didn't look closely).
It has never done that before and 2 iPads in my household have not yet done it. All are on iOS 7.1
I have found a report of the same issue by a user of the 7.1 beta and in that case it was happening every day. In my case I entered the password then went to the same area in Settings as above and used the "Backup Now" button to do a backup. I will see tonight when I charge again whether this is going to be an every day problem.

Everything you need to know about Foxtel Go

Foxtel on T-Box customers can self register Foxtel Go on 2 devices per Foxtel on T-Box subscription. You are able to view content on 1 of the 2 registered devices. The T-Box device will automatically be registered on your behalf and cannot be deregistered. You can change the device they have registered once per calendar month.
To change a registered device you must log into the Foxtel Go app. As a Foxtel from Telstra customer please use your Foxtel My account details. As a Foxtel on T-Box customer please log in with your primary (i.e. the first username created and linked to your account) BigPond username and password.
Once in the app go to the settings icon and choose 'manage my devices'. Within this section of the app you will be able to select de-register for the device you wish to change. To register, download the Foxtel Go app and log in. You will be prompted to register the device.
Remember you can only change one device once per calendar month. If you are still able to make a change, you will be advised of the number of device registrations left this month.
If you recently registered your T-Box, you should have access to Foxtel Go within 1 hour. If you are experiencing errors please try closing the Foxtel Go App and logging in again. If you are still unable to access any content please contact us via Telstra 24x7 or Telstra Technical Support on 13 22 00
If you swap your Foxtel on T-Box service to a new device, your Foxtel Go service is not affected as it is associated to your BigPond username and password, and not the T-Box device.

When closing and reopening Firefox, my tabs aren't restoring like they once did. I used to have all my tabs restore each time I opened Firefox. Now it starts with one fresh new tab and all my others are lost. I do a lot of research so this is important.

Are you using cleanup software like CCleaner?
If you use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the 'Browsing History' when you close Firefox then restoring tabs from the last session ("Save & Quit" or "Show my windows and tabs from last time") doesn't work.

Let's see if we can square this away for you. With backing up your iPhone, it will back everything you have using iTunes and if you use iCloud, by default, backs up everything. After you have made a backup you can restore that to put the contents of the backup on your replacement iPhone. If you want to put certain things back on, you will at least need to export the content to your computer, like your photos and videos. If you only want to put certain things back on, then you will need to sync that over with iTunes. All the information you will need are in the articles below.
