I need to make a copy of my SL installation DVD

I have SL installed in both my iMAC and my MacBook Pro. However, just for security's sake, I'd like to make a copy of the Snow Leopard installation DVD that Apple had sent me. I tried to do so using Disk Utility under SL, but when it came to actually copy the created image on a blank DVD, the system advised me that I didn't have enough space on my DVD. Are there readily available higher capacity DVD on the market that would fulfill this purpose (Higher than the traditional 4.7 GB ones? I think there are, having made a google search, but is there a specially recommended brand? I don't want a cheap one, since we are talking about an important DVD that may save me lots of trouble in a possible future problem.

To do so requires a dual-layer DVD-R. I would use a good brand such as Verbatim. Do the following:
Duplicate a CD or DVD
1. Insert the DVD/CD;
2. Open Disk Utility, and select the DVD/CD from the left side list (select the DVD/CD icon on top);
3. from the DU File menu select New | Disk Image from Disk 1;
4. Choose to format the disk image as DVD/CD Master, name the disk image and click Save;
5. When the .cdr file is finished select it with mouse and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info and check the box to lock the file;
6. Choose the .cdr file from the left side list, click Burn, and insert a new, blank DVD or CD.

  • Need to make a copy/clone of a table which has sdo_geometry data type

    Folks,
    We are running Oracle 11gr1 on Suse Linux platform.
    We have a requirement, where we need to make a copy of a table, in the same database but in a difference schema, the source table has about 130 millions rows and also has the sdo_getometry data type.
    I tried materialized view, but MV does not support sdo_geometry data type.
    According to one of my DBAs, doing it via data pump , will take few days, which is not acceptable.
    Is there a way, we can make a copy of this table in the same db ?
    Thanks
    Ashish

    Siva,
    This is not for backup purpose.
    Here is the background information on this requirement.
    I need to have a static copy of a table, which has spatial column, sdo_geometry in it.
    So we can run another application against this table, just read-only, since we need static data, data in the source table changes quite often.
    One of my DBA suggested to have another instance/database, to keep the copy of the source table, I thought idea of having another database just to keep a copy of a table is an over kill.
    That is why I had asked this question and you had provided a viable solution.
    Then we need to refresh this table , with the data (changes) from the source table, maybe once in 2- 3 weeks.
    I tried creating a Materialized view, but it does not support Spatial columns.
    So now I am trying to figure out, the most efficient way to refresh the clone table from the source table.

    I need to make a copy of an entire email, including the header w/the sender's info and time, etc. to insert into a letter, etc. How can I do this w/out cutting and pasting   the header separately from the text. I know there is a way besides a screen shot but I've spend hours trying to find it.

    For the particularly persnickety types you might want to expose the full headers in the email message as well.  It's easy enough to do, from mail's 'menu' select "view"; then "message"; then all headers.
    Another option you could use is a screen capture using Grab.
    Activate Grab, then shift + command + w (for a window screen shot).  Then confirm the window selection and click the mail message.

  • Is it possible to make a copy of the Leopard install DVD?

    Is it possible to make a copy of the Leopard install DVD? If so, is there a special way this has to be done? I just found out that we needed to use the Leopard install DVD to recover a complete backup from Time Machine after a recent hard drive failure. We have the family pack of Leopard, so I would like to keep the original at home and send a copy when my daughter goes off to college in case she needs to recover again. Her machine was originally a Tiger MacBook, so those install disks will not work. If it is not possible to copy the DVD, is there a way to create a bootable utility to do a time machine recovery?

    This half-solved my problem. I have had no problems creating a backup copy for my intel based computers, but non-intel based computers are problematic; a G5 powermac tower and a G4 Powerbook. Both with super drives for single density burning. Both have Leopard running, installed from an install disc purchased from Apple. However, neither will mount the copy, but intel based computers will. have burnt/burned with both toast 9 and Disc Utility. Discs won't mount and are "spit out" by the drive.

  • How much space no I need to make Carbon Copy Clone of my internal drive?

    I am upgrading the RAM and HDD in my mid 2009 Macbook Pro. How much space on my external hard drive do I need if I want to make Carbon Copy Clone of my internal drive?
    Current drive is 250 GB in capacity
    I currently have limited space on in external HD

    Hi Niel thanks for the quick reply,
    My 250GB capacity drive is relatively full (at about 245GB). Given what you mentioned above,  I assume  I must need to have room for 20GB of surplus space for each backup I make?
    And therefore, would I need 265GB (to backup the 245GB drive) for the first time I clone the drive?
    Have I got that right?
    Cheers

  • Can I make a DISK IMAGE of the installation DVD as BackUP?

    Well after a week of continuing problems, I am so glad that I had several Fully Bootable Backups on external FW800 Hard Drives to keep me alive as my internal HD has been freezing and other repairs may be needed.
    The ability to restart via the OPTICAL DRIVE with the original Installation DVD was also a BIG HELP. But, what if my optical drive would go? I am wondering if there is a way to make a copy of the installation drive (I'm thinking of a disk image file - believe Disk Utility can do that??) - But will it be recognized and serve to boot / install Snow Leopard on my Mac should I need it? (MBP-13" mid-2010 issue)
    I don't want this for any reason other than emergency backup -- I had a DVD that was scratched and could not be read-- hey, maybe I should burn a copy as well?
    Please let me know what is technically and legally possible here. I can't use a snow leopard DVD on this Mac - as it is too new. I need some backup(s).
    Thanks!

    Modifying, no. That use to be possible in the pre-Tiger past.
    And with Mac Pro all you really need is to have a small 20GB partition and put OS X there for use when you want to run Disk Utility you would also be able to use other programs like CCC or Disk Warrior.
    I honestly never have had to get out the original DVD (SL, Leopard, OEM) except maybe once. But I have cloned my system and even backed up my small 20GB "edrive." I also use CCC to backup system (80GB or less) to sparse disk images. But I also bought OS X DVD 10.5.6 as I wanted something with driver support for new hardware, the same thing happening now if you install the ATI 5770 and won't be able to boot with less than 10.6.4.
    BootCD back in 10.3.x days though could be used not just to add other packages and use the current OS to create DVD, but to have a live DVD and be able to run Firefox and utilites.
    Installing OS X off FW drive is fast, fast booting, and 5-10 minutes max to do the install.

  • Need to borrow Adobe CS3 Standard for Mac installation DVD.

    I recently installed a larger 1 Tb hard drive in my MacBook Pro. I intentionally did a clean installation and then copied the CS3 apps and system folders from my Time Machine backup to the new hard drive.
    Bridge CS3 works fine and has retained my presets. However Acrobat CS3 and Photoshop CS3 launch and then give an error message, indicating that I need to uninstall and then reinstall the app.
    Adobe technical support is unable to provide me with a copy of the CS3 media.
    Help. I intentionally am running Snow Leopard on my primary partition just so that I have no incompatibility issues with Adobe Creative Suite 3 and QuarkXPress 6.52.

  • Make Backup Copy of Installation DVD

    Trying to make backup copy of the SL installation DVD for my current model iMac . But I can't copy to a blank DVD (4.7 GB capacity) because image is 5.74 GB. Should I use a double layer DVD- and if so, what brands will work in the iMac?

    While you're at it, if you have 8-10 GB free on a hard drive, create a partition and use the Restore tab of +Disk Utility+ to copy it there, too.
    Then you can boot up and run from it instead of finding the disc (and it will boot and run much faster, too!).

  • Changing host name of OID repository... Where do I need to make changes?

    We are moving our OID metadata repository to a different host and Im curious where I need to make the modifications in our OID installation to accommodate the new host name.
    Things we have already done:
    1) Modified and pushed out the new tnsnames.ora file.
    2) ODM -> Entry Management -> Oracle Context Made changes to a) orclnetdescstring b) cn=OID -> cn=Description_0 -> cn=Address_List_0 -> cn=Address_0 -> orclnetaddressstring
    3) Updated the %ORACLE_HOME%\OraHome\sysman\emd\targets.xml
    After these changes were made, completed rebooted the system. OID seems to be working, however if I open a command prompt and 'tnsping OID' I still get the old host name, however if I fully qualify it, 'tnsping OID.xxx.local' it finds the correct host name....
    Am I missing an update somewhere that causes tnsping to not find the correct host for the repository? Can I update the current repository registration via oracle tool?
    Thanks

    I need to make a copy of an 'event' I have in iPhoto on iMac.  I want the original event in tacked; I want to remove photos on the COPY.

    You can't, really. You could export the photos from iPhoto, then import them as a new event, but that would be pointless.
    Why not just export from the Event? It won't remove the photos from iPhoto you know?

  • So i'm trying to make a copy of a vector....

    ... and it seems that i'm doing something wrong. I need to make a copy of the original vector because I need to clear it before the return statement(which returns a vector) so i'll have a clear vector to work with once the method is called again. I figure i'll just return the copy, but everytime I run my program its output isn't right unless I specifically return the first vector.
    I've declared
    Vector<Widget> original = new Vector<Widget>();
    Vector<Widget> clone = new Vector<Widget>();at the beginning of the class, and put the following at the inside the method of interest, at the end (after the original was filled with elements):
    clone = original;
    original.clear();
    return clone;that didn't work, so I tried this:
    clone = (Vector<Widget>) original.clone();
    original.clear();
    return clone;That didn't work either. Can someone explain to me how this works and what i'm doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    I apologize... i'm aware that a few students in my class visit this site, and don't want them copying my code.
    The code i've posted above is actually modified (changed the variable names), in an attempt to stop this.
    Here is the more info:
    What i'm trying to do is traverse a binary tree recursively for a (node.data).number that matches the argument the method takes in. The method is supposed to start at the root and add every node's data on the way to (and including) that particular node's data in to a vector, then return that vector.
    The nodes have the parameters: (data, parentNode,leftNode, and rightNode) where the leftNode and rightNodes represent the children of the node. The "data" parameter is an object with several other parameters... the only one of interest being "number". The traveler2 variable represents a node that I initialized (as class variables) to the root and will be using to traverse the tree. The Widget vectors clone and original have already been initialized in the class (class variables). The compareTo method was defined in another class, and compares an integer object with a node's data's number, to see if it's equal or not.
    public Vector<Widget> route(int widgetNumber)
              Integer wNumber = widgetNumber;
              clone.clear();
              if(wNumber.compareTo((traveler2.data).getNumber()) == 0 && wNumber!= null && traveler2.data != null)
                   original.add(traveler2.data);
                   traveler2 = root;
              else if(wNumber.compareTo((traveler2.data).getNumber()) == -1 && wNumber!= null && traveler2.data != null)
                   original.add(traveler2.data);
                   if(traveler2.leftNode == null)
                        traveler2 = root;
                   else
                        traveler2 = traveler2.leftNode;
                        route(widgetNumber);
              else
                   original.add(traveler2.data);
                   if(traveler2.rightNode == null)
                        traveler2 = root;
                   else
                        traveler2 = traveler2.rightNode;
                        route(widgetNumber);
              for(int i = 0; i < original.size(); i++)
                  Widget fromOriginal = original.get(i);
                  clone.add(new Widget(fromOriginal.getNumber(), fromOriginal.getW1(), fromOriginal.getW2(), fromOriginal.getW3(), fromOriginal.getW4(), fromOriginal.getW5()));
              original.clear();
              return clone;
         }The teacher has supplied an application that illustrates the path created when one runs the method. However, no path appears. No console errors either. I'm lost. If I were to take out the "original.clear();" line, and return original instead of clone, the method would work. However when it is called again, there is no way the path can be cleared to create a new one, thus providing an incorrect path (anytime other than the first time it is called).
    Please help?
    Thanks.

  • Local client copy of 000 after installation fails

    I'm trying to install XI. I installed Web AS 6.40 (from the SR1 installation) ABAP stack. Before installing the Java Add-In I need to make a copy of client 000. I login using client 000 and SAP*, goto SCCL and without even getting to the transaction I get the following error message:
    "Target client is prodductive and protected against client copy."
    (It's message no. TA133) -- I got into SCC4 (like help suggested) and the only users I have are 000 and 066 ("Test EarlyWatch Profiles"). 000 is set to "SAP Reference", not "Productive".
    The thing is I never even get to enter the target client; I never get to enter anything in the transaction, it throws me out immediatly.
    I managed to get a step further by following these steps:
    1. Using SCC4 I created a copy 000 (001)
    2. Logged out from 000
    3. Logged in using 001 and SAP*/PASS
    4. Went to SCC4, deleted the 001 entry and saved (if I don't delete it I get the same error as before)
    Then when I went to SCCL (while still logged in with the deleted 001 client) I got the transaction. It put 001 as the target (which is fine by me), I selected a copy profile but and selected 000 as the source -- but when I tried to execute I got the same problem as before.
    (I'm sure it's apparent that the whole ABAP world is new to me this is just me trying to install an XI test system in the office.)
    What am I missing here?
    Thanks,
    Alon.

    hi alon,
    what do you mean with 1) (copy 000 to 001)?
    just create a new client in SCC4, make sure that the parameter "client role" isn't set to "productive".
    log on as sap*/pass in the new client and use SCCL to make a copy.

  • Make Lion Boot Disc Without Lion Installer?

    I'm trying to make an OS X Lion boot disc. A failed Windows 8 Bootcamp install killed my Mac, but luckily I had a Time Machine backup which was accessible via the Recovery Disk. However, I would still like to have a boot disc handy in case something like this happens again and the Recovery Disk is somehow corrupted.
    I Googled(among other things) how to make one, and the instructions seem fairly simple. Only, I can't find a Mac OS X Lion Installer anywhere. When I bought my refurbished iMac from Apple, OS X Lion was already on it. Since I didn't download it from the App Store it seems I don't have the Lion Installer to make a boot disc... Anything I can do (besides wasting $30 to redownload Lion from the App Store for the file) ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Start here: Downloading Hardware Specific Lion Installers
    The above will get you the installer if you follow their instructions carefully. Then once you have it:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility.
    Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
    Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    Check the box labeled Erase destination.
    Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
    Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
    When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.
