I need to reinstall my computer, how do I deal with Premiere pro and After effects?

Hello,
As my question states I need to reinstall my computer (laptop) and I'm not quite sure on how to deal with Premiere pro and After effects.
I am thinking that I need to do some sort of backup and save my projects and footage on a sepparate drive.
If I reinstall my computer, install my creative suit production premium, and move back all of my projects and footage, won't I have to re-link every single clip?
I am currently workning on several different projects and having to re-link everything is something I don't even want to think about, that would take me days if not weeks.
Another option on my mind would be to use Creative cloud. I do have the free version but I have never used it even once before and I'm not quite sure what the purpose of the cloud is and if this is a way to use it.
I have no idea how to go about this computer reinstalation without either loosing tons of work or having to re-link every single clip used.
I am videoediting only as a hobby so I have no experience working with other people and sharing projects or the like, wich is my understanding of what the cloud is for.
Any and all help would be grealty appreciated, I know this is probably really easy but ever since i got my Suit I haven't reinstalled, upgraded och changed my computer so I am just clueless as to how to go about this.
I have Creative suit production premium, I also have the free Creative cloud.
It is only Premiere pro and After effects that I am using and am worried about.
Thank you for any help.

If the computer's running Mac OS X, move the cursor to the very top of the computer's screen, click on Store, and choose Authorize this Computer.
If the computer's running Windows, press the Alt and S keys and choose Authorize this Computer, or click here, follow the instructions, click on Store in the menu bar, and choose Authorize this Computer.

  • How much does Premiere Pro and After Effects rely on the hard drive it's installed on?

This may be a really dumb question, but how much does Premiere Pro and After Effects rely on the hard drive it's installed on if all your video files, assets, disk cache, etc are on different drives than the one the program itself is installed on?
The reason I am asking is that I currently have a "relatively" slow Sata II SSD for my C drive that has just my OS (windows 7 64bit) and programs (adobe editing programs, no games) installed on it and nothing else. All of the files used in my projects are saved on either a very fast Sata III SSD or a slower HDD depending on what the files are. For example, disk cache on the Sata III, stills on the HDD.
Being cyber monday I have the opportunity to buy another very fast Sata III SSD to replace my current Sata II SSD C Drive (just OS and programs). Both synthetic and real world benchmarks show a near double in performance. I just want to know if anyone thinks the upgrade is even worth it because for all I know there won't be any increase in performance since no videos, still, cach, etc will be stored on the C Drive.
The alternative is to get a second monitor because I currently only use one 21" monitor.
I suppose another alternative would be to not buy anything on the cyber monday deals and just save money for something else.
Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks Alex! I think you are right about not being able to notice the difference between the SSDs. I ended up finding a deal to get about $80 off a great monitor that I've been looking at for a while and decided to pull the trigger on it. I thought about it and realized that there have already been a bunch of times where I want to watch a tutorial on youtube and follow allong in AE or PrePro, but have to keep switching windows. I also frequently want to have my video preview on a separate monitor so I can have a taller timeline window. This monitor will help a lot with that. Thanks again for your help!

  • How do I edit out background objects in CS 4 Premiere Pro or After Effects?

Hi,  I've got the CS4 version of Premiere Pro and After Effects.  I'm editing a seminar video and there is a very ugly metal bar right behind the speaker, looking as though it is going right through his head.  Is there a way to edit this out?  I do not have similar footage without the metal bar.  Can I cover it up and, if I do, do I have to do it almost frame by frame?  The speaker does shift around in his chair, covering different parts of the bar with his body at different times, and, on a few occasions, the camera zooms out.  Is there any way to somehow cover this up for the whole video?  Or at least for some of the close-ups?
    Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks!

Thank you so much.  I read through the entire article as well as some of its adjuncts; it was very helpful.  I believe I didn't know that was what I was looking for before you answered me.
However, when I FIRST set up this computer (while still at the Apple store, with their guidance) they had me set up what I now believe was the administrator account.  I wish I knew for sure!
They told me that (whatever it was) was unchangeable, and that if I forgot the password, I was doomed.
Is there something at a yet-more-basic (underlying) level than the administrator account?
This "memory" is what haunts me and makes me fearful of logging clear out; I never have done so.  No one else uses this computer.  But I have to log out to use the Test account (that I just created).  I DO know the password for the administrator account and the test account, as I changed them and tested them by unclicking the lock (and then reclosing it when I was.
If I still sound confused, I am  ~  woefully.  Such a basic should not be unknown to me......
Thank you so much for replying.  I hope you see this, and will do so one more time.
    Respectfully,

  • FAQ: What computer and components should I buy for Premiere Pro or After Effects?

See this page for the official minimum system requirements for Premiere Pro.
See this page for the official minimum system requirements for After Effects.

    As David and Hal said
One thing to consider is that you may also want SATA capability (which you can do with G5 towers easily, the dual cores have cards available or will shortly) and also shortly (fingers cross) for the MacBooks (there are cards for PowerBooks.)
The only possible fly in the ointment is if you are going to hold onto these computers for awhile, with the Intel Chips the non-Intels will eventually have less support and software. Though for the short term (particularly if you are relying on non-Intel native apps and need peak performance) the Quad G5s are great.

  • Trouble with Premiere Pro and what to reinstall the program.

I have a Creative Cloud membership for photographers. Now I´m starting to use Premiere Pro that is installed throught this membership. But when I upload .MOV files to Premiere Pro I get a Error message, that premiere Pro doesn´t support this file? Witch i kind of odd? I know that this is an approved fileformat. Saw on a forum that you might get rid of that problem by installing the program again. How do I do, to reinstall Premiere pro? I can only see that I can install a testversion but I´m not interested in this. Because I already have a membership. I did change one of my disks in my desktop a few week ago, and maybe that´s whats causing this problem.

Premiere Pro is not part of the photography bundle, so beyond the trial you won't be able to use it. The rest we can't know. You have not provided any system info or otehr details like the source and type of your MOV files and whether you can e.g. import them in Photoshop. MOVs are Quicktiem files, so if you haven't even installed that, this is the first thing to do.

  • How to create this lighting effect in Premiere Pro or After Effects?

    Hey,
I'm a student and premiere beginner and I'm trying to make my first video in premiere. In this video,  Drawing Channing Tatum - YouTube ,  you will see that lighting effects in the first 10 seconds. How can i create this?
    I thank you so much!
    Marie

That is stock footage of the ends of a film roll exposed to light during the loading process that is simply laid over the video with the add or screen blend mode applied. You can search for "film damage" stock footage and find something that would work from stock footage houses. You can fake your own with shape layers, blurs and opacity animations using the same add or screen blend mode. It's just much harder to get the film damage to look "real."
Here's what my google search turned up as the first link to stock footage. I have no relationship with this company and have never used their footage.
    http://www.pond5.com/stock-footage/20486672/film-burn-light-transitions.html
You could also just get your smart phone close to a lightbulb, make sure it's out of focus and then move it around.

  • How do I deal with .thm files and iMovie?

I've been using my digital camera to take short movies. When I download them onto my computer they show up as a file with a name like: MOV02161.MOV and another with an identical name but the extension .THM. When I double-click on the .mov file it opens in Quicktime and plays back no problem. When I import the .mov file into iMovie it plays without sound. I've noticed that the .thm file seems to be crucial to whether there is sound or not (I tried trashing one but then the Quicktime video played without sound!) but I can't import the .thm files into iMovie. Do I have to convert them to some other format? How do I do that?

    kstp,
the .thm file is simply a jpeg thumbnail version of your movie which you could probably view by changing the name from .thm to .jpeg (not entirely sure about that). Your audio problem is more likely caused by iMovie not having the codec needed to play the audio format encoded into your mov container. Maybe someone here more familiar with iMovie can tell you what audio formats work within iMovie, and you can set that in your camera to prevent this problem.
Now, worst case scenario is that you'll probably have to extract the audio and convert it to something that works in iMovie. You can extract the audio from within iMovie from the advanced options menu. You can also use a free app called FFMpegX to extract and convert it to something else. Hopefully though, someone here will have a more convenient solution for you.

  • How to make DVDs with Premiere Pro CC

I upgraded to CC from CS4 so I noticed there is no Encore DVD CC program to download. I think I read once that somebody said Adobe allows you to download a previous version of Encore but I can't find it, is this possible? If not how do you guys make DVDs for a client who wants them?
If there is an Adobe Encore version to download, what video format should I export to make the DVD on Encore?
If anybody can direct me with a link I would really appreciate it
    Thank you!

Its a pity that Adobe could not put Encore out into the public domain  (freeware) or sell it to someone who will provide it to those who need it.
This post includes Neil Wilkes' explanation for what happened.
    https://forums.adobe.com/message/6123689#6123689
(Adobe has never confirmed this, and has taken down their "Encore FAQ" that gave their lame explanation for why Encore is end of life.)
Basically, Adobe licensed the authorcore for Encore from Sonic/Roxio, which has been bought out by Rovio. Rovio killed all the sonic licensing (because they are into streaming).
Sony may be the only continuing product other than consumer options.

  • How can I deal with error 200621 and 200279?

Hi, I am new to Labview. I was asked to use Labview to do some basic frequency-domain analysis for my homework. The hardware I use is myDAQ student instrumentation device. Basically, I am asked to transfer audio signal from MP3 to Labview by using the audio in jack on myDAQ, and transfer the editted signal to a speaker by using the audio out jack. Also, I was asked to have a toggle to let users alter from music to white noise.
Here's the problem. If I do not switch between white noise and music, it works well. But as long as I click the toggle, either error 200621 or error 200279 will appear. And I referred to the help file (http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/AB7D4CA85967804586257380006F0E62), but I still have no idea how to solve the problem. Could anybody give me a detailed instruction, thanks.

    Take a look at:
Getting Started with NI-DAQmx: Getting Started with NI-DAQmx Programming in LabVIEW
Learn 10 Functions in NI-DAQmx and Handle 80 Percent of Your Data Acquisition Applications
You can also find a lot of DAQmx examples with Find Examples under the Help menu.
Also, if you right click on a DAQ assistant and choose Open Front Panel, it turns it into a subVI where you can look under the hood and see how the DAQ assistant is doing its job with the basic DAQmx functions.
For queues, look for examples for that as well.  And also look for the design templates under File / New... for Producer/Consumer architecture.  Also do more searching on the forums for questions and answers about queues and producer/consumer.

  • Canadian BC users, how are you dealing with HST, GST and PST/QST?

Hi, I'm new here and I've been building my first BC eCommerce site for a client for almost a year. It's a business to business site, dealing with about 5000 SKUs. It's currently in trial mode, and we're about to go live with it. I have a problem with taxes I hoped I'd be able to sort out, but haven't found a solution.
My client's head office is in Ontario and they sell from there, and also from Quebec, though online sales will be limited from Ontario for now. Ontario, like B.C., where I am, and a number of other provinces have HST. The remaining provinces have GST and PST/QST, except Alberta, which only has GST. My client sells thoughout Canada, and also to the U.S.
Scenario 1) When one sells from an HST province to a customer in another HST province, the seller must collect and remit the HST for the buyer's province. For example, I work from B.C. with 12% HST, and my client has 13% HST in Ontario. I have to invoice them for my services, collecting and remitting 13% HST.
Scenario 2) When one sells from any province to a customer in a non-HST province other than Quebec, the seller charges GST and is encouraged, and depending on the province they are selling to, required, to register for that province's PST and collect and remit that tax as well. Otherwise the customer is required to self-assess the PST on the purchase.
Scenario 3) When one sells from any province to a customer in Quebec, they must apply the GST to the purchase, and then apply the QST (Quebec Sales Tax) to that total. Again, out of province sellers are expected to collect and remit the QST.
Scenario 1 is fine. Currently I've set up all HST provinces with their corresponding rate.
Scenario 2 is problematic from a legal taxation standpoint. I've set up all GST+PST provinces and Quebec with 5% GST only. This will not be acceptable to my client as their sales volumes are quite high and they have to remit other province's PST.
Scenario 3 seems impossible on BC, but will become a lesser problem until January 2013, when Quebec changes to Scenario 2 (i.e. the QST will no longer piggy-back the GST but will be raised so there is no change to the total tax)
Further, most businesses will want to see the GST and PST appear separately on the invoice, not calculated together as seems to be the case now.
Has anyone managed to set up GST and PST/QST in the system, so both taxes appear in the cart/checkout process, and separately on the invoice?
    Thanks for any assistance!

This might require the discussion to move to the advanced code development section, but I'll post it here first anyway.
So after about 2 weeks, I'm not sure there's a solution to this. I've tried a variety of JavaScript and JQuery approaches to do a show/hide of the appropriate tag based on the province chosen in the {tag_shippingoptions} drop down. The cleanest way was with JQuery and I got it to work outside of Business Catalyst, but not when implemented in my cart.
The problems seems to be threefold.
    1. The onchange of the "shipping state" dropdown calls ApplyTaxRate() in an unmodifiable back-end .js file. If I try to have local JS or JQ work on the same function call to do my show/hide, not only does the show/hide not work, but it breaks communication with the back-end .js so no taxes get calculated/updated.
    2. If I create my own shipping menus calling the same functions (acutally just copy/pasted the inspected HTML), the taxes update OK, but the menu selections don't persist, AND if I then inject my show/hide, the show/hide doesn't work and all the functionality of the ApplyTaxRate function breaks.
    3. If I try to call an additional function for the show/hide, from the onchange of my own menu, the ApplyTaxRate function works, but the additional fucntion doesn't work as it does outside of BC.
Here is my partial code. Any help?
    <div class="shippingStateDiv"><span id="shippingStateSpan">Destination State<br />
