I have a macbook pro with a 2.16 Ghz Intel core Duo processor. Can I install the iOS 5 software?

iOS 5 is for iDevices, not OS X. Your iDevice would only require 10.5.8 or later. If you have a Mac with a Core Duo processor then you cannot install Lion but you can install Snow Leopard provided you have at least 1 GB of RAM installed.

Most likely won't run SL unless it's one that was released before Lion went public. Color SL gone from new Macs.

  • I am in China and need to buy a MacBook Pro with English as the core language. Where can I find one?

I am in Jilin China and went to the local Apple resale store, but all the MacBook Pros with Retina Display have Chinese as the core language, and the store workers couldn't help me get English.  Where can I buy a BacBook Pro in China that has English as the core language?

Not very bright of them.  Every Mac can be switched among 33 languages, including English, in a few seconds via the system preferences.

    And in Chinese
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14211?viewlocale=zh_CN
Along with that, when setting up a brand new Mac (or after install an fresh version of the OS), the first thing you have do is: select a language. That choice sets the language for the rest of the setup and the default. Pick English and you're done.
But as Tom mentioned, that can always be changed.

  • How to Install Windows 8.1 on MacBook Pro with Retina Display Using Boot Camp?

    Hello,
I own a MacBook Pro with Retina Display and was wondering how do I install Windows 8.1 without an optical disc drive? I have bought the full version of Windows 8.1 and would like to partition it on my MacBook Pro. Could someone please help me out by posting step-by-step procedure or a video on how to do it? It is my first time partitioning the Windows operating system and would like to clarify with the community on this before I install it.
Thanks in advance for those who have helped!

Windows 8.1 is not yet supported by Boot Camp. The best way currently to install Windows 8.1 is to use a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox. Installation instructions are on the Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox site.

  • (How) Do I need to repair my Macbook Pro?

I have a MacBook Pro that is a little over two years old. Soon after I first bought it, some internet issues arose. With the help of the warranty, I took the laptop into a local Beckley's Office Equipment (I don't have an Apple store!) for a discounted repair. It was finished two days later, and I loved the quality of the repair.. until it began a new string of problems. I have neglected to seek any true help, but it can't wait any longer! Here are my problems:
The operating system or any built-in applications will not update or download. The bar stops at "Configuring Download". I needed those apps for Science class! This is my biggest problem and I need it fixed ASAP!
Sometimes my games will crash for no reason and scatter icons on my desktop after they have closed. It's done this on Spore, The Sims 3, and World of Warcraft. I understand it may be directly linked to the games OR to the fact that my OS is out of date.
The screen and mouse will freeze when the laptop gets hot (doesn't the laptop have a fan that is supposed to prevent that?), and any sound playing when it crashes skips and the laptop has to be forced off.
Same as before, except with a seizure-inducing flashing black screen with either odd colored pixels at the top or a black bar crawling up the screen. That problem doesn't seem to be a product of overheating.
The cursor will randomly move very slowly and choppily along with any moving pixels for a while, until the "spinning beach ball of death" cursor appears and then goes back to normal. This has only happened twice.
I've checked for viruses multiple times, and nothing shows up! ACK!
I'm also pretty sure I don't want to go back to the Beckley store. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!!

  • Need Help Connecting New MacBook Pro with Wireless Network Password

    Hi Linksys Community,
I would like to ask for your help and advice.
I recently purchased a new MacBook Pro, OS X, Version 10.8.3.
I need to setup a password to the wireless internet network (I've successfully done this)
    I have a Wireless G,  WRT54G Router.
When I setup the password, I'm not able to connect to the internet with my new MacBook Pro, which is running Mac OS X Version 10.8.3.  I get the message 'cannot connect to Internet, connection timeout) However, I'm able to connect to the internet with an older MacBook Pro, and my iPad. The password works fine with other models.
Would anyone be able to help me troubleshoot what is going on, or how I can solve this problem?
I would like to be able to have a password on my network, and use the internet with my new MacBook Pro.
I have read about manually adding in the MAC address of computers, and setting up a Wireless MAC fiter.
Does anyone think this would solve the problem?  if so, how can I find out the MAC address of my MacBook Pro?
Thanks in advance for you help and time!

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
Yes, my computer connects when your network is open (no password set)?
    I used WPA Pre-Shared Key.
Do you know how I could check if my new MacBook Pro is compatible with this?
    Thanks!

  • I need your help regarding Macbook Pro with FCS3 via USB

Sorry for the double posting, I need your help...
I am producing an independent TV movie. We are shooting in HDV with a Sony Z5.
Currently I am using a 2007 iMac (1gb) for the FCS3. I am considering buying a Macbook Pro 15' i7, because I need the portability as well as a WD 1TB portable external drive.
Just when I am about to buy the machine I started to read all about the USB vs. the Firewire. What should I do? The MBP only have one firewire port...if I use an USB portable external drive means that I won't be able to use FCS3 properly and that buying a MBP will mean spending money in something that I won't be able to make it work properly??
    Thanks for your help!!!!

    Hi there,
As Patrick said its Firewire hubs you should avoid along with directly connecting your media drive via USB. USB hubs are fine for connecting peripherals (keyboards, tablets, mice etc). directly connecting USB media drives is not for streaming video due to their method of sending data in packets rather than as the continuous stream that firewire provides. Firewire hubs just seem to cause all sorts of headaches to those that have used them, I cant give you a specific reason other than splitting the available FW bandwidth (someone with more knowledge on this will have to chime in), its more just inherited practice.
    cheers

  • Canon projector doesn't recognize the macbook pro with OSX lion using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter

for some reason my MBP and my iPad do not work with a Canon LV-7390 projector in the conference room at my office.
they work every other place but in this projector (the most important). any ideas

    Hi glraczon.support,
It sounds like the external display you are using (projector) operates at a smaller resolution than your MacBook Pro. You may want to configure the display preferences in System Preferences for the external projector.
Here is an article that may help you with that process:

  • How do I connect my MacBook Pro to my Network using Ethernet as there is nowhere to plug the Ethernet cable in? What adaptor do I need? then how do I keep everything, docs and emails, synchronised daily?

I have just bought a MacBook Pro and want to synchronise all data (excluding photos and music) and emails currently on my desktop iMac.
First question, how to I plug in an Ethernet cable to the MacBook so that the two can be connected to the same network via the ethernet? Step one of the Apple setup wizard has me flummoxed!
Second question, once I have that sorted, how do I keep the two devices synchronised (data files and email) and how do I keep the email synchronised to my iPhone?
    Help!

  • How to repair corrupted Macbook Pro hard disk when I don't have a startup disc provided by Apple

So my MBP was really making horrible clicking noise and I figured out that my start up Lion OSX disk partition is corrupted.
I have three partitions. One for Lion OS X, another for Documents and another for Movies and Downloads. When I run disk utility and verify other two partitions(documents and movies/downloads), they appear to be okay but when I do the same with Lion OS X then it says:
The volume Lion OS X was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
Error: This disk needs to be repaired....then use Disk Utility to repair this disk.
Is my hard drive gonna die soon? Or will it be okay if I just format my 500gb hard drive completely and install the fresh copy of Lion OS X again? I don't have a recovery disc or what so ever provided by Apple anymore. I have a DMG installation file of Lion OS X and a USB flash drive(4 GB approx). How can I repair the disk partition without the recovery start up disc?
Please help me, I am really worried.

Hmmm idk if it's the clicking noise or not but it is making a noise of course. Sounds like hmmm few old desktops that makes weird loud  noise for the first 20 seconds they boot up.
I am still unsure if it needs to be changed because the other two volumes appear to be okay. Why only this one? I have already saved all of my data in an external hard drive but it's weird how my 10 year old desktop is running on a same hard drive and my 3 years old 3000$ laptop had it's optical drive replaced, dead pixels, trackpad problem and now hard drive when I take care of my laptops like my baby and more over I don't even travel with it, it is always sitting on my desk like a desktop.

  • Can't format cloned SSD that stopped booting in my MacBook Pro. Disk Utility always posts an error with mount and unmount issue. Any clues?

Is there any way I can reformat a cloned SSD that was used to upgrade my original HDD?
It suddenly stopped booting (a progress bar always appeared followed by a shutdown)
I've tried to reformat the SSD via USB case, and using Disk Utility, but it keeps on send error message with unmounting issues.
Any clues as how to overcome this problem?
    Thx
    Nuno

Have you connected that drive to another computer and if you have can you do anything with it on the other computer. If not then the drive has failed.

  • How to repair a filevault sparsebundle with disk utility?

I've been experiencing some oddness with my filevault home directory so I wanted to drop into disk utility and run a check/repair on it. The odd thing is, when I log out and into another account, the sparsebundle says 0k in the finder, and appears to be a directory. When I sudo to cd into the directory, it appears to work, but I remain in /Users/username. When I drag the sparsebundle into disk utility, it appears in the bar on the left side of the screen, but clicking repair or verify causes the progress bar to activate for a split second then stop with no error message. Trying to mount the sparsebundle yields a "No supported socket" message.
I am able to log into the account. When I do that, in /users/.username directory, I can see the sparsebundle with its true size, 35 gigabytes.
I used to repair sparseimages; is the described behavior "normal" for sparse bundles and if so, is there a way to get them repaired in disk utility? Or is this odd behavior on the part of this particular sparse bundle?

Well a bundle and a disk image are both, likewise, "very different things" than actual independent storage devices, but disk utility is able to reason out that it needs to ask for the password for the disk image and open it in order to repair it. There's no reason why it couldn't be as bright when it comes to handling a sparseimage.
You are correct that mounting it first with a terminal command (sudo hdiutil mount -nomount -readwrite /path/to/sparseimage) causes it to be repairable in disk utility. Disk utility can figure out by itself that it needs to open the disk image when you repair a disk image, but apparently not with a sparsebundle. I disagree with your tone above that implies that somehow one would not expect disk utility to function robustly and be actually capable of repairing Apple file system-based virtual disk images (whether a single file or in a directory format, doesnt matter), and that one should be expected to dig up a terminal command and mount it manually before being able to tinker with it. That's not reasonable to expect of the user for a routine task such as repairing a disk image.
However on doing so, disk utility can repair the disk.

  • Can't erase Macintosh HD with disk utility in recovery mode

    Hello Apple users,
Two days ago, my MacBook pro was suddenly forced to turn off and after restarting my MacBook it did not turn on anymore. Every time after the *boing* an apple sign with a status bar appears and if this bar is at 1/4 the macbook turns off again and the whole process starts again.
Luckily i was able to acces recovery mode and surprisingly my hard drive seems to be OK, so i was able make a backup of my most important files. I thought te best option for now would be erasing my macintosh hd and install osx yosemite as a new macbook.
But here is the problem: when I try to erase my Mac hd, i get this message (not sure if this is te correct translation from the dutch message) "not able to erase, disk can not be unmounted". I searched google for solutions and I found some topics saying that this isnt possible, because it is also the startup drive.
Are hou guys familiar with this problem and are there any solutions? The recovery drive wasn't available, so the recovery runs via the 'internet recovery'.
    Thanks in advance
