I need to replace my iPhone 4S due to a hardware problem. Will I be offered to upgrade to iPhone 5 for an extra fee?

Hey everyone. I have an iPhone 4S that needs replacing due to obvious hardware issues (shuts down randomly on its own). I have shown the panic.plist reports that it generates on another forum and they have confirmed the kernel and hardware problem.
Since replacing it is the only way to go for me, I was wondering whether Apple still offers the option to upgrade to the next model when going to replace a phone with warranty. What I mean is, if I go to an Apple Store and ask to replace my handset for a new one (with my warranty/receipt) will I be offered to upgrade to an iPhone 5 for an additional fee? Can I ask for this option?

    A warranty issue (defective hardware) would justify a replacement.  You would receive a refurbished iPhone 4s as the replacement.  I recommend that you go to an Apple store (if you have one close by) or a Verizon store to have them check out that sticky volume button.

    I have a iPhone 4s with greyed out problem. My phone had a water damage but it did not cause anything on the phone. However, 2 weeks ago my wifi just greyed out. I cannot use wifi anymore. What I am wondering is, how much money do I need to replace the phone ? I saw 150€ and 150$ to replace. I suppose Apple gives the "0" phone to customers after the payment but I want to be sure on the amount of the money ? Does anyone has an idea on that ?

    We are all fellow users on here and not Apple employees so cannot speak for Apple or what they will do.  That said, I would be very surprised if a US Apple store would be willing to do any replacement for this iPhone as it is not a US version.  Your friend can certainly visit an Apple store genius bar and see what they will do, there is no harm is asking.
    A new one will still have the problems I noted above, no warranty outside the US, LTE service will be for the US frequencies, locked to a US carrier unless you pay the premium price for a factory unlocked iPhone, on the order of $600.

    So it's been a rough few weeks. About two weeks ago, the Macbook I was syncing my iPhone 3GS with was stolen while I was out of town. I made the mistake of not backing up my data, and I lost everything... documents, music, movies, etc.
    Though I lost a lot of it, I realized that a good amount of music, movies, and TV shows are still on my iPhone 3GS.
    Fast forward to this past Monday, my iPhone 3GS craps out on me. It turns on, but won't accept any input commands from the screen, buttons, silence switch, etc. Not only that, but the sleep/wake button got jammed.
    Now I know its likely that Apple would replace my iPhone, but that would lead to losing all that media I have on the device! My entire music library, which I've spent years building, remains only on my iPhone. I have about 30 GB taken up on my 3GS.
    *Do Genius Bar folk have the capability to transfer media off an iPhone onto a computer of another phone?*
    *If not, should I look into third party software?*
    I'd appreciate any and all help on resolving this problem... big thanks.

    Only if the phone is working. But if it were then you could do it also. If you connect the phone to a computer does it show up in iTunes? If it does you can try "Transfer Purchases" on the iTunes File Menu.

    Again, Only if the phone is working. There are third party apps that can retrieve SOME of the content of the phone.

    I think you are out of luck by now. No backup of your computer, and when you lost the computer you didn't bother to save what was on the phone, which would have been possible as long as the phone was working.

    Replacement of iPhone is the decision of the Apple Genius. If the iPhone is very damaged, seems like you are suggesting this, then the Genius may decide not to allow Replacement of iPhone. Make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple and see what is decided.

    The MBP should still operate when you are using a power adapter and plugged into a properly functioning wall outlet.  From your post it sounds like you simply need a new battery so the you can operate the MBP without a power adapter.
    If ot does not operate with the power adapter, you have other electrical issues.

    Warranty and Support are only valid in the country of origin.  You will need to take the device to whatever country it originally came from.
    Apple will not accept shipments from outside the country nor will they return it to an address outside the country.

I got my phone through Carphone warhouse and I am on a 4G EE contract. My sister put my phone on her bank insurance as she was allowed so we cancelled the Carphone warehouse insurance. So my final question(s) is will Apple replace my phone? Will I have to pay? Should I go through my sisters bank insurance? Also, I don't really want to replace my phone so would anybody be able to tell me how to fix this problem? My iOS is up to date as well. Thank you for any help that I receive.

    The best thing to do is to book a Genius appointment with your nearest Apple Store and take your phone in. This needs to be done online at http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/geniusbar/
    They will be able to connect your phone to their diagnostic software and they should replace it if it's within the 12 month warranty period, which it will be if it's a 5S. They will also be aware of any glitches with the phones. Curious as to why you wouldn't want to replace it if it's faulty - not that it's any of my business. If you make sure you back it up first you should be fine.

    I have an Iphone 4S and just like A LOT of people the IOS 7 update broke my phone. I asked the support what to do and all they said was replace my phone for $199, this phone was PERFECTLY FINE before the update, they told me "oh, your wifi chip must have broken during the update" but that seems like quite a coinsadence if it happened to tons of people for the same reason, I have tried EVERYTHING. reset the network settings, reset the network settings with airplane mode on, hard reset the entire phone, switched wifi on and off (whenit is'nt greyed out), turned airplane mode on and off and I even tried the freezer trick and nothing worked, I wanna fix this phone because it is my first phone, I did not own it, it is a 2 year old phone so its warranty is out and yet it is a great running phone besides the fact that (like alot of other people) the wifi broke during the update somehow. I want to fix this phone, if I have to spend $200 then im not buying an apple phone.
    Apple should find a way to fix this without giving the excuse, "oh, I guess the wifi chip broke during the update for (possible) thousands of people."

    It also did not happen to hundreds of other people and therefore did not unmask a problem on hundreds of phones. A Wi-Fi chip breaks not because of an iOS update but because a problem with its hardware has developed. All those seemingly innocuous drops and spills will at some time, sooner or later, cause a problem. You may even console yourself with the knowledge that you never dropped your phone but can you say the same for the people you loaned it to (if only briefly) and/or whilst it was out of your sight? Another potential cause is simply component failure. Electronic devices composed of many other electrical components can and do fail and it's naive to assume devices such as these don't have the potential to fail or not as the case may be.

  • Will Apple replace my iPhone 5 for free if the lock button is not working properly?

    My iPhone 5 was bought in March 2013 and broke in January 2014 so I still have a few months left on my one year warranty.
    My lock button did not get stuck or jammed, but all of a sudden it just would not work.  I don't notice anything different about it and it still makes a "click" noise when I press it but, it wont do anything or respond to anything.  Clearly something is wrong with it and I am not sure why.
    I have my assessive touch ON but I would rather use my lock button.
    If I bring it into Apple will they replace it for FREE if my one year warranty isn't over and my lock button just will not respond to me pressing it?

    If Apple determines that it is eligible for coverage under the warranty then they will either replace it or fix it.
    In my experience,, if it is truly just a faulty button, then they will fix it but the tech will make that determination after inspection.
