I need to reset a forgotton master password.

I forgot the master password, how can I reset it or clear it?

Hi George,
It is easy to reset but that then you loose all the stored passwords, so before doing that try to list all paswords and sites you sue with passwords, with the passwords that you remmember. Also it may be worth you making a final attempt to try all likley master passwords, including any likley typos you could have made.

  • HT5624 I need to reset my Apple ID password, but it says that my security questions are not correct and I no longer have access to the email it sends the correct information to. Please help!

I need to reset my Apple ID password, but it says that my security questions were not answered correctly.  The email address associated with the questions to reset the answers is no longer available to me. It is my old college email.  Does anyone know how to change this email? The unavailable email is not in my list of emails approved in my Apple ID settings.

You cannot and need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, and filling out and submitting this form.

  • WhaT HAPPENS IF I HAVE TO RESET MY THUNDERBIRD MASTER PASSWORD? WHAT DO I ACTUALLY PERMANENTLY LOSE? DO I LOSE THE ABILITY TO ACCESS ANY OF MY EMAIL OR DATA?

It looks from the cryptic notes on the Thunderbird site that all kinds of bad shit happens if I reset my master password? Do I really lose my email accounts and all my stored folders in Thunderbird? Or is all that happens that I just have to set new passwords for my gmail accounts? Or does something else happen?
I really do not want to lose access to data permanently so I cannot risk resetting the master password until I know what kind of bad result will happen.
    PLEASE HELP!

The master password is designed to stop people seeing your Thunderbird saved passwords.
If you delete the master password it will remove the stored passwords, so will need to reenter the stored passwords for each mail account if you want Thunderbird to use them.
This is part of the safety, after all, if you can delete the master password then anyone can also do the same and see the stored passwords, hence why they get deleted as well.
If Thunderbird has no stored/saved passwords, when you start up Thunderbird or GetMail, it will prompt you for the password to access that email account on the server. Enter the correct password, make sure you select the checkbox for password mamanger to remember the password and click on ok.

  • Hi i have just bought a used ibook from goodwill and need to reset the id and password.is there anyway to do this? i called tech support and they said to try here because our ibook is considered opsolete and they can't help me. thanks

hi before i start i did not steal it, i bought a used ibook and need to know if there is a way to reset or get past the old user id and pass word. we bought it from goodwil so no way to ask old owner and i called tech support and it is conciderd opsolete so no help from them and know one in this area works on mac. so what can i do?  this is for my daughter and we are not rich thats why we bought used. thanks for any help.

Here are the instructions, as I have them:
Press the Command + s key during startup. This takes you to Single User Mode, where you will see a command line.
Type this when the command-line prompt (>) appears:
    mount -uw /
    rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
    shutdown -h now
When the iBook restarts, you will see the setup screen. This allows you to create a new account. BE SURE to give yourself administrative privileges. You can now use this new account and set it to log in automatically with this new account if you don't want to be bothered with the login screen every time you start up.
You can also delete the old account if you want to free up some hard drive space.
    Good luck!

However, it is desirable to do it with the disc, if it is available, which is why I waited to see if the user has the disc before supplying the instructions for doing it via Single User Mode.

  • HT4759 I can't remember my answer to the security question and I need to reset my apple id password

hi I have tried to reset my password and cannot do it. I can't remember what date of birth I used (I don't usually use my real one) and when I tick the option to send an email to my address, I can't receive the email because I can't log in to my apple id

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Start here (change country if necessary) and navigate to 'Password and Security', reset your security questions using the link provided, you will receive an email to your rescue address, use the link in the email and reset your security questions.
If that doesn't help, you don't receive a reset email or you don't have a rescue address, you should contact AppleCare who will initially try to assist you with a reset email or if unsuccessful will pass you to the security team to reset your security questions for you.
If you are in a region that doesn't have international telephone support try contacting Apple through iTunes Store Support.

  • Lost master password need to reset

Hello, My master password works on main computor, it will not work on my laptop, I found the link to reset the main computor but it doesn't work on my laptop, Is there a way to reset the master password , Then I'll go back to pen and paper. Thank you for whatever help you can provide, I'm sure someware their is a link to reset it.

You can delete the key3.db file and logins.json file and a possible signons.sqlite file or move them to another folder to make it possible to undo the action.
You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and all currently saved passwords are lost.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • I tried resetting my Master Password using "chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul", but when I click on "Change Master Password" it asks for my CURRENT password. I don't have a current password, because I don't remember it and am trying to reset it!

Using FF 4.01 for laptops & desktops, Windows XP 2002 SP3. I used "chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul" to reset the Master Password. Then went to Tools/Options/Security, clicked on "Change Master Password". BUT it asks for my CURRENT password and new password. I don't know my current password. Is there a default Master Password that I need to input as the Current password?

If you still have a Master Password set then it looks that resetting the MP hasn't worked.
If using the chrome url (chrome://pippki/content/resetpassword.xul) doesn't work then delete the files [http://kb.mozillazine.org/key3.db key3.db] and signons.sqlite in the Firefox profile folder.

  • Need to reset password for digital ID to sign doc in Adobe Reader on thinkpad using Windows

    Hi,
I need to reset (or find) my password for the self-signed digital ID I created in order to sign a doc in Adobe Reader using Adobe Echosign software. I'm currently on my laptop (thinkpad) which uses Windows. How do I do this?
    Thanks

Unfortunately, only you can remember your password for a self-signed digital ID.  No one can reset or find it for you.

  • Needing to reset my BIOS password

Hi, I need to reset the power on password associated with the BIOS.  I have removed the back in 2 places but I need some kind of schematic that tells me where to locate the header and jumper labels.  I know nothing about computers so this is me blind...I have entered the password wrong and gotten a code before...that code is 90407744.  I am on a G71-340US HP computer with Windows 7 OS and Home Premium.  I have instructions for resetting the password but do not know where to find the header and jumper.  Thanks  ybliku2

  • After resetting my master password and setting up a new one, Firefox no longer accepts any sort of password...help?

in a little more depth: at first the master password popup would ask me for my password, and then it would get stuck in a loop of continually asking me to enter the pw (it would apparently accept it, I never got a wrong pw error or anything like that). Now it never even prompts me for the master pw, and I cant set it to remember passwords for ANY sites. I am currently running Firefox 7.0.1 on Fedora 15

It is possible that there is a problem with the files key3.db and signons.sqlite that store the encrypted names and passwords in Firefox.<br />
Rename the files key3.db and signons.sqlite in the Firefox profile folder.<br />
You can add .old to the file names (key3.db.old and signons.sqlite.old) or move them to another folder to make it possible to undo the action.<br />
You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and all currently saved passwords are lost.<br />
If that has worked then you can remove the renamed files that are no longer needed.

  • Reset Forgotten File Vault Master Password

Is there any way to reset the file vault master password?
I must have set it about 5 years ago, and the migration tool has moved it to my new machine. I have completely forgotten, and the hint I left myself has me even more baffled.
I remember all the user/admin accounts, just not the file vault one.
    Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

The FileVault Master Password is stored in the
FileVault Master keychain. This keychain is located
in /Library/Keychains next to the FileVault
Master X.509 certificate and System Keychain.
You don't have to delete these files to reset the
FileVault Master Password, just move the FileVault
Master Keychain and companion FileVault Master
certificate to another folder. When you open System
Preferences, it will behave as though you never set a
FileVault Master Password, and will allow you to set
    a new one.
My daughter set me up as a user on her computer that I bought for her when she was 18 with limited access to use only the internet. She has got married and moved to New York in March 2007. She says she can't remember her master password and I am unable to use the MAC to its full without her administrator master password. I have no access to system prefernces when I click on File either.

  • Want to reset the stored ID/Password for a site

I need to reset the stored ID/Password for a site. I entered the wrong ID and clicked Save on the pop-up for saving password for the site. Turns out I used the wrong ID to login and now I can't reset it to the correct spelling. It keeps overriding what I type in.

Highlight that entry in the drop down list and press Shift+Delete to remove it.

Every time I open a new site, The box for Master Security Password pops up and I don't remember what it is. Therefore, I cannot delete it. What do I do?

Rename or delete the key3.db and signons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.<br />
You can add .old to the file names (key3.db.old and signons.sqlite.old) or move them to another folder to make it possible to undo the action.<br />
