I need to restore old messages approx 6 months ago

I am in a situation where I need to restore some very old text messages for legal reasons as prooof of correspondance, I am not sure how to do that.

Do you have a backup of the phone that was made when the messages were present? If so, you need to restore that backup to the phone. If not, then you're out of luck. There is no place to restore them from.

Only if you have a more recent backup with which to restore from - if you've only got the one from 3 months ago then you will be limited to what was on that.

I need to restore old archives in primary, so that I could apply in standby

I Need to restore sequence from 135777-138246 before enabling the DG broker configuration (as they are not availble in the primary or standby site).
So need to restore primary Ist with these missing logs, Please let me know how would i go about it.
In standby till sequence 135097 have been applied (confirmed from alert log as the DB is down as of now)

May be you have problem with only archive *135098* , which is not transferred, even though that archive not transferred the next archives of them will be transferred,
So if you just restore only missing archives(very less) that should be fine.
If you are sure that above all archives are not transferred then you better to go with RollForward.

Need to combine back ups from months ago and current...help!

All of my contacts were deleted when I shut down/restarted my iPhone 4S. The last back up on iTunes was many months ago, but I have many new calendar, note, photo etc entries since then that I cannot loose. I performed a new back up on iTunes and have since activated iCloud as well. I now need to restore my contacts from the dated backup on I tunes, but then I will also need to somehow incorporate my latest backup from either iTunes or iCloud, but not sure how to go about any of this without loosing information. When I go to iTunes and click restore from backup it shows as only option iphone, not the two different backup dates (may be that if I click it will give me the option of the diff dates, I just was scared to click it in case another option isn't given....although now that I write this I see nothing to loose as the old info is gone so maybe a mute point). Anyway, is there any way for me to restore my old back up from months ago on itunes and then also restore the latest newer info too?
Just FYI...spoke with Verizon, apple and many diff blogs about trying to just restore my contacts from wherever they went, but no luck with anything so now stuck trying to restore from very old backup on iTunes.

It seems that in a case like this you'd need to reset the device to factory settings and then restore from iCloud backup.
Sadly the reset to factory settings could cause more trouble than its worth.
Apple's iCloud backup, could, but does not let the user restore one app or its data.
You'll also find that even though that App's data is in the cloud, you as its owner do not have access to it.

I have old threads that i want to view. I have never deleted messages in threads and would like to view the very beginning from months ago. Is there a faster way to view them? Other than scrolling and clicking load earlier messages.

I have no real faith in these alleged data recovery tools. If the text messages were deleted months ago and you were still using the device, the chances are slim, even if that program works.

I have extremely important photos I need from 7 months ago. I have been constantly syncing my Iphone with Itunes since I deleted them and I understand that the photos could be lost forever. However if there is even a slim chance I can get them back that would be a huge help.

I am having problems with mail after upgrading to snow leopard. When I send an email to somebody, I would get a reply from them but the content of the reply were old emails from months ago. Any ideas what's going on?

For ex. The subject of my email was "List of kids dancing this weekend". Then i would compose my email and send it to the recepient. They responded to my email with the same subject "List of kids dancing this weekend" but the content of the email was the email I received from somebody else months ago. This "phenomenon" happened serveral times already. Please help!

Turns out the auto-complete database is a SQLite DB stored in this folder. Probably the ownership and/or permissions are messed up on your system. Mine (under Snow Leopard) show ownership by me and rw privilege for all files in that directory, including MailRecents....

Can old files from months ago be deleted?

I am running out of space on the Time Machine external HD. On the external drive there are many folders from months past. Can these folders that Time Machine backed up from months ago be deleted without effecting any of the saved files?
If the answer is yes, how many months back can I delete without compromising the current back up files?

You shouldn't have to delete anything; Time Machine will delete the oldest one(s) automatically when there isn't room for new ones.
But if you really want to, you can delete individual backups, or all backups of selected items, via Time Machine (do not use the Finder or Terminal). See #12 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
If you have other data on the disk, in the same partition, that may be a problem. See #3 in the FAQ.

I recently had to do a wipe/reinstall of a mail server, one of the users did not backup old copies of the messages in his imap account. I have recovered the old users folder from /var/spool/imap/user
How do I go about recovering the messages from that folder, and place them into his new folder?

Put the messages from the backup into the users mailbox folder and reconstruct the mailbox by issuing:
sudo -u root /usr/bin/cyrus/bin/reconstruct -r -f user/username
(replace username with actual user name/mailbox name)

How can I read non-deleted text messages from months ago without having to continuously press "Load Earlier Messages"?

I never deleted text messages from a specific person in case I ever wanted to go back and look at them. Now months have gone by and I don't feel like continuously pressing "Load Earlier Messages" for hours trying to get back and look at them. Is there anyway I can upload the whole conversation on to my computer and read the entire conversation from the beginning?
