I need to restore some Notes from Time Machine but how?

I have Lion 10.7.4 and Time Machine and need to restore Notes [which are in the Reminder part of my Mail app] and figured otu how to show the hidden files so could see the Library, thinking that was where the 'old' notes were = so went there but can't find where the notes in Mail are kept - and can't find to restore them.
How do I find the notes from a month or so ago to restore them into the present Time Machine folder -- I've tried it 3 times and the Notes thing is there but empty each time == but if I am in TimeMchine and look at tht top I see that there are 25 notes etc.

Thanks but that is what I am doing...the shot below is of the Notes area in Mail before I do the Restore via TM - I go into TM and back in mid April/late March find 25 items = I did a screen shot [below] so  I know the info is there - but so far I keep getting the restored Notes folders with -0- messages
I did go into the Timemachine volume and follow thru the location path to the Notes.mbox in the Library of my user folder [name has not changed] - the only thing there is the info.plist = which contains the plist info but not the 25 notes or messages which clearly show up above.  Thanks for the help.  Not sure what to do next?

  • I need to restore iphoto library from time machine, but have a question

I need to rebuild my library but already have 5 libraries which are taking too much space on my HD to finish a complete rebuild. Is it safe to move those 5 libraries to the trash and restore the one from time machine???
    thanks in advance,
    Kari

IF nothing goes wrong - hardware - software - human - then you will be fine
Personally my photos are important to me and I'd purchase an external harddrive and backup everything to it first - then do the deletes/rebuild etc
Then I would continue using the new EHD for a second backup using a clone package (Carbon Copy Cloner or SUperDuper)

  • Restore some application from time machine problem.

    Hi Everybody,
I just restored my MBP from Time Machine, everything went fine. But I feel my MBR start up much slower than before. So now I want to do a clean install Leopard.
I would like to ask you guys who experiences in Time Machine that after installing Leopard, I want to restore some applications from Time Machine such as MS office, Wow, Photoshop...Will they fully function if I restore from TM?
I acknowledge that some applications are like packages so after installing in Mac OS, they are actually located in different places in the system. Whereas others is like small application so we just copy and use. So if big applications as packages, I can not just copy from TM and put it in my new Leopard to use, can't I? If I can't, so is there any ways I can copy it back and use?
I am so confusing about this and I hope very much that somebody could help me out this problem, I would greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

Wait on the erase and install. Launch Disk Utility which is in the Applications > Utilities folder and Verify your disk and repair permissions. If Verify shows any errors boot from the Leopard install DVD by holding the "c" key down until the spinning gear appears. Pick a language and choose Utilities > Disk and run Repair until no errors appear. Repair permissions.
If that doesn't work try resetting the PRAM which quite often fixes slow boot times.

I don't know about Wow but Photoshop and MS Office install too many files in too many places for it to be practical to restore them from Time Machine backups after doing an erase and install. You need to reinstall those from the original disks for those applications.

  • Empty iTunes, then Restore Some Playlists from Time Machine?

My MacBook Pro is full, mainly because of the massive collection of music. Everything is backed up on Time Machine. I want to reduce my iTunes library by about 50% to regain some capacity. Can I delete my entire iTunes library off the MacBook, then reinstall only the playlists that I want from Time Machine? What's the best/safest way to do this?

  • Restore a Note from Time Machine Using Yosemite?

One of my Notes (in the Apple Notes app) has disappeared.  I can't figure out how to restore it from Time Machine.  I see other posts saying to find the Library/Container, but I don't see that anywhere in OS X Yosemite.  Anyone help?  Thanks!

In other words, I'm wondering where in Finder I can find the data files for Notes.

I went back a month to time machine selected Applications, then Time Machine, the back a month,
Then I selected restore.......it finished........then I saw a notice on the desk top that 'IT'  was part of OSX and couldn't be modified
I went back and repeated the process, only this time I double clicked on the Stickies icon thing I might 'see' the content I lost........and then restore; I deism see a different 'page' and tried restoring that........but got the same message ........'IT'  was part of OSX and couldn't be modified
    Hopefully, Thanks

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/StickiesDatabase
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Enter Time Machine and restore the selected item.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...

  • After reboot my hd - i would like to restore my data from time machine but it cannot recognize the password

I Installed the OS X Lion at my computer and all the application double. After I called to Apple support the suggest to erase all the HD and start to install the system again.
After that I am trying to rescue my data in the time capsule and it does not recognize my password.
do I lost all my data?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Restoring iCal Events from Time Machine

    Hi
I read a few threads that were related to my question, but it was more from moving over files from different versions of the operating software. Here is my dilemma:
Somehow I erased all my iCal events. They were syncing with Entourage. I went into iCal because I had some duplicates and deleted event duplicates, when I did that I somehow deleted all my events. I do have time machine and have a back up of iCal. I restored the program from Time Machine, but the events are not back. I suspect that I need to restore the actual files that must be kept in a database somewhere?
Will someone please tell me how to restore the actual events and where exactly I can find the iCal events data. My plan is that once I restore iCal I will export and import into Entourage.
I really do not want to lose all my events. Thank you in advance for your help!
    Brandon

    HELP! Please.
I am a new iMac user. For weeks, the system ran perfect. This morning, I tried to synch my iCal with Google Calendar to let others have access to my events. Somehow, after the sync, all events at my iCal suddenly disappeared. Not just that, the list of calendars (private, business, etc.) was gone too. I then tried to synch iCal with all the events stored in my iPhone, but that only lead to my iPhone calendar being completely deleted too. I am totally desparate now. What happened? I then tried to use Time Machine to restore. But in earlier time machine dates, there was no calendar folder which I could use to replace mine. But I could not find a calendar folder there. Thank you for helping. Kind regards from Munich, Germany.

  • How to restore a deleted iCloud note from time machine backup?

The short of it... one of my kids decided they didn't need certain notes, therefore deleted them!!!!
(my fault i did not have notes/synced/off on new device!),
but they are important and iCloud is synced across all devices and those notes are gone.
Wasn't sure if a device/ restore from back up would work - didn't.
Tried some of the Apple Communities/ going to lib/ turn off wifi/ move the 3 files to desktop/ move back to lib file, nothing.
Could I get some 'really specific' step by steps?  seems others have had success, and maybe i'm in TM when I should be on my Mac or vice versa?! or in the wrong library?
My TM backups just does not let me get anywhere to restore those deleted notes.
    Any help would be wonderful!
    Thanks
Thinking Apple should have given us an iCloud safety net or at least allow TM/ iCloud to be userfriendly.

I used this to restore my deleted notes from Time Machine, hope this helps others
    closed Notes,
    turned WiFi off,
entered finder/go+option/ to 'get to library':  /Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Data/Library/Notes/
entered TM and selected the 3 files/ hit restore/ keep both (just to make sure, then I deleted the newer file, not the 'restored' file when this worked out)
opened notes and my deleted notes were back so I copied my notes into pages as a backup,
turned on WiFi and the notes disappeared!
replaced my restored notes by copy/pasting my backups into notes/iCloud....
notes/mac would not show across iCloud.... don't remeber this being an issue prior to Mavericks when 'all' notes were selected?
Apple needs to hear from us so they can fix glitches like this.  TM was created for instances like this, hopefully this is just an oversite.  Pass this along to Apple Feedback/iCloud/bug.  If enough of us flag such issues, hopfully it's addressed on the next update.
Dear Apple, this should be much easier than it is. We should be able to open Notes, go into Time Machine, and restore anything regardless if it's on my Mac or on the cloud.

iPhoto crashed. When reopened, 70+  some events were grayed out (no photos).  Restored iPhoto library from Time Machine, fewer grayed events.  Said yes to a msg on fixing library, 3000 more photos. Still wrong.  What next to do?

Do you still have the library that you were using when the crash occurred?  If so apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • If I restore the system from Time Machine, are folders not in Time Machine erased?

Pretty much as per the title. I was messing around with my Internet connection (DNS issues) and now can't get online at all, and can't find other ways back online, so I was going to restore from Time Machine: but I've got some folders that aren't in Time Machine (mainly temporary files like podcasts, iTunes U, videos and the like). If I do a system restore from Time Machine, it looks like that material will be erased. Will it all disappear, or will the folders not in Time Machine be left as is?
    Thanks in advance!

Yes, a time machine restore will erases the volume and then restores.

  • Restore System Files From Time Machine

    Hello,
Is it possible to to restore system files from Time Machine? I was trying to make the Imac a local host, and something is not working right. I just need to go back one day and over write some of the system files. Is this possible with TM?

  • I'd like to do a fresh install on a macbook air running 10.9.4 and manually restore programs and files from time machine.  How would I go about doing this?

In the past I've always just run a full backup from time machine, but my computer is just getting way too full and its performance is a little sluggish.   If there's any way to to just reinstall all the programs without user files, and then manually restore user files on an as needed basis, that would be ideal.
Also, should I just reinstall mavericks using the command + R function?
Any help would be appreciated.   Thanks.

Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

I had to restore my iMac from Time Machine. After the restoration all programs are functioning except my Adobe Creative Suite 4 Design Premium. When I start any program in the suite the error message, "Licensing for this product has stopped working." I restarted the computer and tried again to run Photoshop and the same error message appeared. The message was followed by a message that stated that I needed to contact Adobe technical support and mention Error: 150.30. I need Adobe technical support to provide me a solution for my problem so I can continue using my Adobe products installed on my computer.

Unfortunately when Adobe products are restored from backup, especial CS4 and especially Mac, it breaks licensing.
There is a python script included in the license recovery kit that should work if you are familiar with Terminal.
If not, you must reinstall your CS4 suite.  You don't need to delete your preferences, so it should be the same as before.
