I need to run 6 displays on my mac! Is it possible!??

Hello.
I am working on a video installation, and I need to run at least 5 monitors/projectors from my mac pro. Here are my specs:
Model Name: Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro1,1
Processor Name: Dual-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per processor): 4 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 1.33 GHz
Graphics Card: ATI radeonx1900 512Mb
my question is: What additional graphics cards can I install on my mac to up the number of displays I can run? Do I need mac specific cards? Im a noob at the tech side of this stuff. Thank you for your help!

There are some break-out boxes if multiple monitors are just displaying the same content so that you wouldn't need to have 3 graphics cards.
The options are slim pickings, worse than before. The ATI Radeon 2600XT is not listed on Apple Store but would have worked. The 3870 costs $219. The Nvidia 8800GT is also no longer listed.
Make sure your X1900 isn't clogged with dust and is still able to breath and blow out air and isn't heat stressed. Still being sold, and still $399 - no change after three years is sort of sad.
I will say that 2GB RAM is rather minimum configuration. I doubt it is enough.
Yes, you need Mac specific or Mac firmware for it to work in OS X.
The original OEM 7300GT, it too is no longer listed or being sold by Apple which was the cheapest upgrade option that could work.
So I'd look for a splitter box; more RAM; possibly replace the X1900 even with another ATI card.

    I have a Radeon 5870 installed with OS X 10.8.3
need to run a Dell 30 inch dislay, a 19 inch Eizo and a 12 inch Cintiqu Display Tablet please.
Ant tipes or hints?  Failing that, I would like to know of a comptaible video/graphic card which will only take up an additional slot, as I have the others filled with eSata and USB 3 cards.

Do I need to run iTunes on my PC/MAC to access from AppleTV?
I have turned on Home Sharing on both systems.

Is it true that I need to install iTunes to access the iTunes store to buy content?
    Yes.
Why not have a web page (HTML5 based naturally) that does the same thing?
You can make enhancement requests directly to the Apple folks if you like. Here's a link to the iTunes product feedback form:

  • Running 3 displays on a Mac Pro with a single ATI Radeon HD 5770?

    Hi all,
I am trying to run 2 19" widescreen monitors with VGA connections and a Sony 32" tv simulantaneously on my Mac Pro. Was wondering if anyone could offer some knowledge on this highly discussed topic...As far as I am aware the main problems that seem to arise with other users on similar forums when trying to do this is the mis-informed use of passive adapters as opposed to active adapters. Is this correct, or is there more to consider here? Do I need to buy a second HD 5770?
After some research here is my proposed setup:
Monitor 1: ACTIVE mini displayport to VGA adapter
Monitor 2: ACTIVE mini displayport to VGA adapter
Monitor 3: DVI port to HDMI cable
    Should this solve my problems?
The active adapter that I am looking to buy is this:
    http://www.accellcables.com/products/DisplayPort/DP/mdp_vga.htm
Hope someone out there can be of some assistance,
    Thanks,
    Stefan.

That setup should work.  I believe all mini-displayport (mDP) to vga adaptors are considered as "active".  I know that apple documents that their adaptor is considered active (see note in this doc).  So you satisfy the requirement of having two active adaptors to support three monitors on a 5x70.  And I think the Accell one you linked to is also fine.
Note, that while your setup will work to drive the video to the two vga's and HDTV's, you still need to address how to pass audio to the HDTV.  DVI does not support audio.  If you aren't interested in passing audio then you can ignore the reast of this post.
In my setup with a 5870 I have a vga monitor going through one of the apple mDP-to-vga adaptors (that counts as one active adaptor).  I also have a 2010 27" apple LCD monitor which of course connects directly to the second mDP (no active adapter so I still need a another).  And like you I want may HDTV connected to the DVI.  So to satisfy the requirement of a second active adaptor, and to also avoid having to pass analog audio cables to the TV (which you have the option to do with your setup), I chose to use the following device with satisfies the requirement of an "active" adaptor.
DVI & S/PDIF Digital Coax/Optical Toslink Audio to HDMI Converter
This allows me to pass the DVI and TOSLINK (digital) audio to that converter and string a single HDMI cable to my HDTV.  Works perfectly.  The only thing about that converter is it's limited to 1080i, not 1080p.  I don't care, couldn't tell the difference anyway on a 32" HDTV.
Finally, to go along with all this I use SwitchResX which allows me to set up multiple monitor configurations.  So I can enable the TV when I want to use it from my computer and disable it when I don't.  And I can switch the configurations with a menu or hot-keys.  And with a little applescripting which you can add to SwithResX configurations I can even switch the audio from my computer to the TOSLINK, i.e., switch between my computer speakers and those attached to the TV.

  • Run two displays with current Mac mini?

Can two displays be run with the current mac mini? I would like to be able to have itunes open on one display while using the second for all other use. Thank you.

The new Mac mini has two dispay ports, the mini-DVI and a mini-DisplayPort. You can attach a display to each port with the proper adapters. It also comes with a mini-DVI to DVI adapter.

  • Min needed to run my music lib on Mac Laptop?

I have lost my iTunes music library (including approx 70 CDs of songs, all 65 subscribed podcasts -- worse, which episodes I have listened to and which I haven't -- as well as all my purchased music and about 35 Audiobooks) twice since I loaded iTunes 5 on my Windows XP laptop. When I looked at the Apple site, I noticed very few (if any) troubleshooting recommendations for Apple computers.
So, as a possible remedy, what is the smallest/cheapest laptop I can get that will manage/hold my music collection, Audible books, keep up with my podcasts and sync everything with my iPods?
I am not familiar with the nomenclature of Macs (iBook, Powerbook, G3, G4, etc.) so any information would be appreciated.
I would like to get out of this cheaply (read - buying less than 'state of the art'), but I don't want to 'shoot myself in the foot' when it comes to functionality (i.e. I don't have 30 minutes for the iPod to sync every day because the CPU is a dog).

    Hey Mark,
Well, if money is the biggest thing, then i guess u go for 12" iBook 1.33Ghz....That will cost u $999...though u can also go for a 14" iBook 1.42Ghz....This will cost u $1299...
The major differences will be that u will get a combo drive and a 40Gb hard disk space with the former one, and a super drive along with a 60Gb hard disk space..
    See http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/70502/wo/Q14bxxP 96X2n3O5sFNC3bfO7kUE/0.0.15.1.0.6.23.1.1.1.0.0.0.1.0..
And i bet u wouldnt like to invest in a powerbook, which starts from $1499..
PS: YOU CAN GET DISCOUNTS TOO...STUDENT DISCOUNT IS THERE, BUT THE LOCAL VENDORS ALSO SOMETIMES GIVE YOU THE WANTED DISCOUNTS..

  • Running two displays from one DVI port...time to put my ADC down

    Hi Guys,
I have a G5 dual with a GeForce FX 5200 which has 1 each of DVI+ADC ports. Until recently the 17" Apple display has been my only monitor. As I have a recording/mix studio I need to move the G5 base unit far away from any recording as it makes quite a lot of noise. I have been unable to do this as I have been having trouble finding either a Dr Bott or Griffin ADC extension. I have been searching off and on for over a year with no success.
Recently I purchased a cheap reconditioned NEC monitor which I am running from the DVI port and am thinking perhaps now is the time to get rid of my apple display due to the ADC connection troubles.
Is it possible to run two monitors from the one DVI port? I need to run a mirrored image so that I have one monitor to my side so that I can do close editing work and then one further away behind my analogue mixing desk, they need to show exactly the same thing.
Will splitting the DVI port degrade signal or is there a way around this. I also want to get some long cables 6m+ so that I can place the base unit outside of the control room, will this be a problem?
I would really appreciate some help on this matter.
    Thanks,
    Iwan

    Hi jackwyatt,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you would like to connect your MacBook Pro to a projector to output the display and sound, the cables and adapters you need will vary depending on the specific model MacBook Pro that you have.
I recommend this page for getting a good idea of which adapters you might need:

Hi newbie342, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Each G5 video card will run 2 displays, Power Mac G5: Display Compatibility
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2707?viewlocale=en_US
You'll need a second video card, but which one will work for yours with what you have already I'm not sure.

  • We need to run wb_workspace_management.set_workspace procedure each time

    Hi
We appear to need to run wb_workspace_management.set_workspace procedure each time in a new session before running OWB Mappings.
The above procedure is run with values REP_ADMIN/REP_ADMIN and then we are able to successfully run the mappings. However, on opening a new session, if this procedure is not run, the execution of mappings fails. However the values REP_ADMIN/REP_ADMIN are already present in the view all_iv_workspaces in owbsys schema.
Should this procedure be run as the first thing before starting execution of the mappings or is there some other issue?
If the stored procedure is not run this message is displayed.
ORA-20013: The workspace has not been set. Please call wb_workspace_management.set_workspace procedure to set workspace first.
    ORA-06512: at “OWBSYS.WB_WORKSPACE_MANAGEMENT”, line 1356
    ORA-06512: at “OWBSYS.WB_WORKSPACE_MANAGEMENT”, line …
Any help with diagnosing this issue is greatly appreciated.

Should this procedure be run as the first thing before starting execution of the mappings or is there some other issue?Yes, you need to execute set_workspace procedure for each new opened database session before running mapping or selecting data from OWB public view.
It is OWB requirements starting from 11g R1 OWB release and there are no any workarounds.
But maybe you can include call to set_workspace in OnLogon database trigger (I don't done it and cannot confirm that this works) if you want to avoid manual execution of set_workspace ...
