I need to save an email attachment that seems to be an asps file

I have been sent an email that has a link to a report. I am only allowed to access the report twice (for security). Therefore I wish to save the report to my iMac. Under the File tab I have clicked on "Save As". When i then go into Documents, I am presented with something that looks like a PDF symbol and underneath it says "DocViewer.aspx". When i try to open the file, I get an Adobe Reader message/prompt that says "File does not begin with '%PDF-'. DocViewer.aspx.pdf" and the option to press OK. When i click on OK the screen goes black and a kind of bar appears at the bottom of the screen, as if it is trying to do something. But I've left it and nothing happens! I have also tried to use "Export as PDF" under the File tab but that doesn't work either. Please can anyone help?
I should probably point out at this point that i am absolutely terrible with computers and anything technical. Indeed, this is the first time i have ever asked a question on any website ever!! I mention this because i find a lot of answers on these pages too difficult for me to understand and littered with terms, phrases or instructions that i find just to difficult to comprehend. Therefore, if anyone knows how i sort this, can you please explain it to me like I'm a 5 year old??!! haha ha. Thank you

This seems to be some Microsoft type file. It's not you who are confused. It's Microsoft creating confusing stuff.

if the file prints correctly to paper, you can then print the page to a file.

You need an app that you can use the Open In function and save the file into that is compatible with Word files like Pages, Smart Office and now Mocrosoft has a Word App for the iPad. It is a read only version unless you subscribe to. Office 365, as far as I know anyway, but it is free and you can save the file to the app.

Save the email and forward it (along with the attachment) when you need to send a copy somewhere. Depending on the type of document it is, if you can open it in some app, and if that app is programmed to sync to iCloud, then that's a way to get it to icloud. Just tap and hold your finger on the attachment icon (in mail) and from the pop up menu choose the app to open it in - if there is an app capable of opening it.
For Pages, Numbers, etc. formatted files, you can open them in the appropriate Apple app, and if you have set up an iWork page on icloud.com, then you can save the doc to iCloud via the Apple app (Pages, Numbers, etc.).

i'm an iphoto (and mac os x) newbie, and i can't figure out how to save a jpeg attachment that someone has sent me so the image shows up in iphoto. what is the easiest way to do this? i'm using apple mail and iphoto 6 on a macbook pro running os 10.4.5. although occasionally i'd like to save jpegs from my web-based hotmail account too. thanks

The easiest way to do this in Mail is; next to the attachment field in Mail, you'll see Save & Slideshow. Use the Save pull down menu to "add to iPhoto" & the Slideshow is just what it says, it will do a slideshow of the photos in your email attachment.
I don't use Hotmail, but I'm sure all you do is click on the image, File>Save>Desktop. From there you can drag the image into iPhoto. Or simply drag the image from Hotmail to your Desktop or directly into iPhoto.

Depending on the attachment I think you'll probably need to view and download the email on a computer - the iPad can be a little limited in what it can do with attachments.

I am trying to store an email attachment (an Excel spreadsheet) somewhere on my iPhone 5 to be able to access it easily in the future. I do not need the ability to work on it, just to access it, although it would be convenient if i could load updated versions over it on a regular basis. The spreadsheet was created in Excel on a laptop with Win 7. I read one posting that said I should save the document to iBooks and then could open it whenever I wanted. The same posting refered to something in the upper right corner of the attachment that enabled me to save it to iBooks. My tech ability doesn't go much beyond being able to power up my phone, so I need a really simple solution, if one exists.

First of all, Excel file can't save to iBook. (iBook only can view PDF files). That's why you don't see it in "open in" options. In order for you to save excel, you will need a third party app like Numbers, Office2. There are a few free apps that can use to view. I used Office2 from Byte2, because I can not only store and view later, I can do some edit too. Especially when you want to edit a few numbers and re send them to my office or clients will be very useful for me.

Iphone 4s on ios7 will not open or save ics email attachment

My iphone 4s on ios7 will not open or save ics email attachments so I can update my calendar. I have to open them on my PC and then iCloud will sync my updated calendar across all my devices with no problem. However, when I don't have access to my PC I would like to be able to open the ics calendar item (or save it) on my iPhone so I can see what meeting or conference I have been invited to so I can reply promptly and keep my calendar up to date without needing to wait till I have access to my PC.

The exact same thing described above is happening me too and by the looks of this and other forums, its happening alot of people.
I have tried restoring from new and a DFU restore and nothing works.
Think Apple need to own up that this is a real flaw with the iPhone 4 and offer a repair or recall.

I have an email in a gmail account with an application form attached to fill out and return by email. I have tried everything but can't write on it. It opens in google documents and I can read it but not amend it.
I have downloaded quick office and adobe reader but when I press and hold on the attachment it either just opens or bring up an 'open' button not 'open with'.
I have also tried pressing the box with the arrow at the top of the safari page but this just has print, copy Facebook etc?
I can just press download on my friends mac and I can write on the form but I have attachments I need to send with it so need to do I from the ipad.
What am I missing, it surely can't be as difficult as I am making it?!

This may seem like a silly question, but have you tried logging into your GMail account in Safari by going to http://gmail.com/, then clicking on the email attachment from there to edit it?

When I try to save an email attached file, the file name is automatically convertied to "attachment.ashx" although the correct file type is recognized. How do I retain the original file name?

This problem occurred after the most recent update to firefox 8.0.
After right clicking on the attached file, I click on save link as.
The correct file type is recognized. However the file name is converted to "attachment.ashx".
When I rename the file, it downloads properly and is opened by the appropriate program.
However, I should not have to rename each downloaded file.
In particular, this is happening with Word files and with Scientific Notebook (.tex) files.

Cor-el, thank you for your advice. I was able to navigate to my Profile Folder and I deleted the mimeTypes.rdf file. I then closed Firefox and restarted it. The problem was still there, and I found that the mimeTypes.rdf file had been re-created.
I tried your second suggestion, but the files you mentioned were not present so there was nothing to reset.
Any other suggestions?

Captivate 4 - I need to add a Email Button that reads Submit

I looked in the Help feature for Captivate 4 and couldn't find my answer.
So my predecessor put a button on the quiz results page that would allow people to submit their quiz results to the LMS. I am unable to recreate this button. When I look at the button on projects she created, it is showing as an "email button". I have no clue how to add an "email button". I also can't copy/paste the button from one project to another. Nor can I copy/paste the slide from one project to another.
Anyone have a clue how I add a "email button" from scratch?

So the issue isn't what the buttons are doing on the actual quiz slides, it's needing to add an Email button on the slide that gives the final scoring information (the reporting slide?). The screen shot you have shown me, isn't that the submit button on the quiz slides, not the final scoring slide?
As you can see here, I have the Submit button on quiz slides:
When I look at the properties of this Submit button, it shows as a Text button, not an Email button like the Submit button on the reporting slide is.

Correcting email address that adobe is trying to send file from

I have asked this Q before with no resolution but I really need this fixed. If I open a file that is in adobe reader or acrobat, etc. When I click on the option to "send" it then brings up a black box a saying " [email protected]: creating draft message... " The problem is that email address no longer exists and I can't change any settings because my settings don't have that address associated with it. My computer will just lock up since it is trying to create a draft from that email address that does not exist. I want to change it but have had no luck. I have changed everything I can in my computer but this is strictly an adobe setting somewhere within the system. Can somebody fig this one out for me?
