I need to switch to a different computer to synch my iphone.  Will I lose information?

To gdgmacguy:
You can authorize the computer! Top left corner, you wil see file, edit etc. Click sotre> authorize this computer, than go to edit> prefrences> devices, under back-ups click where it says to prevent auto sync when devices is connected. than you can connect the device, and theoreticall you could transfer purchases by right clicking on the name of the phone, and back up by the same method.

  • If I put a different Apple ID in my iPhone will I lose all the apps I have already purchased through another Apple ID on the iPhone?

My daughter and I share an apple account. She has an iPhone (she's had it about a month) & I have an iPad. All of her app downloads and iMessages are showing up on mine. If I set her up her own Apple ID is there a way that she won't lose all of the things she already downloaded? She's taking over my iPad with downloads & pics.

The Apple ID needs to be a verified email address. Once you have an email address, that can be verified, go here & create the ID:
    https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/wa/createAppleId
Then on her phone, turn off Contacts, Calendars, etc. for iCloud. You'll be prompted to keep the data or delete it from the phone, then turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account...Settings>iCloud...scroll down...delete account. Then, setup iCloud using the new Apple ID, turn on iMessage & Facetime.
This will have no affect on the ID you both share for iTunes content, & you can continue to do so.

  • Help?? new computer and new itunes. dont want to lose information

We have 2 iphones with Sprint service - which means no SIM card.  We just purchased a new computer.  I downloaded itunes to the new computer since it was not pre-installed.  I transfered the info from our old computer to the new one using an easy transfer cable.  Our music is now in the new itunes, though not all of the playlists transfered, which is no problem.  When I plug the iphone into the new computer, a message appears that all data will be erased from the phone if I continue.  I dont want to lose the contacts, apps, etc by going forward.  The music can be reselected so that is not an issue but the contacts and other info would be a nightmare if lost.  Sprint doesn't have SIM cards, so that isn't an option to save contacts.
It was also a nightmare having 2 iphones connecting to the same itunes, so I would like to have 1 iphone to the new computer and the other iphone to our laptop.  When I connect the iphone to the laptop, I get the same message.
Also, there were purchased music on both iphones - will I lose those purchases?
    Thanks for any help!!

Did you not copy your contacts from the old comtuer to the new one?  You should copy everything from the old computer.
BTW iphone stores nothing at all on the SIM card, so that would not matter anyway.

  • I am trying to retrieve music that I had from an iPad to my iTunes account. I'm using the same computer for synching my iPhone.  I'm logged into my iPad account, but can't retrieve music. It only recognizes my iPhone.

I am trying to retrieve music that I had from an iPad to my iTunes account. I'm using the same computer for synching my iPhone.  I'm logged into my iPad account, but can't retrieve music. It only recognizes my iPhone.  Does anyone know how I can get my music?  I know longer own the iPad so I don't have access to it, but I don't think that should be a problem.

So you had music on the iPad that is not in iTunes and you no longer have the iPad. Is that what you are saying? If that is what you are saying, iTunes won't "recognize" anything that was on the iPad, that was not purchased from iTunes. If the music was purchased from iTunes, you should probably be able to download it again for free as long as you are using the same Apple ID that you bought it with. Did you try downloading the music again?
Am I understanding what it is that you want to do? If I am understanding you correctly, you will find this to be useful.

I admit that I'm a little confused by your remark about being logged into your iPad account. You should be logged into your iTunes account.

  • Computer died, need to get sync on different computer

my piece of crap laptop finally died and it had all my music on it. The other computers we have both are synced with other ipods. How do I get my music on another itunes without giving an ipod their music, getting theirs, or completly erasing my own?

1). Create a Windows user account for yourself on another computer, this will give you a new blank iTunes library of your own to work from. Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you only want to copy your purchases to the computer that can be done using iTunes, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • Need to put NANO on different computer

I have a friend that because of the lack of a computer has her Nano registered on my computer and does of her downloads on my computer...She now has her own computer and I am moving so we need to register the NANO on her computer and take it off mine...we realize that she will looose her music and have to start another libary in her computer..(I think we can put her music on CD and then burn it to her computer).. but mainly I need to know how to unregister her nano from me and put it on hers..
    Thank you..

Registering an iPod is only for warranty purposes, it doesn't need registered to connect to another computer. If your friend's iPod is set to update automatically she will get a message when she connects to her own computer asking if she wants to transfer her purchased music to this new one.
She'll also get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if she wants to link to this one and replace all her songs etc. Pressing "Erase and Sync" will erase what's on it and link it to the new library and load any songs that are already on there.
If her iPod is set to update manually she will not be asked to erase and sync, in this mode the iPod is not linked to a single library:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod

  • Need to sync to a different computer

The mac I used to activate and keep my iphone synced is not available now. I do have another imac at home. Is there any issue connecting my iphone to a different computer? Will my photos, music and contact info be lost or will it be reconciled with what I already have in my computer.?
    Thank you

    Ansuz82,
One thing to add, you will have the option to transfer the purchased music and videos to the computer you are sycning with if you have authorized it for the same iTunes Store account.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Choosing which  computer to synch my iphone to.

Now that I have an iPhone, I need some advice about which computer to synch to as I can only choose one. I am choosing between a MacBook Pro with Leapard plus Windows XP imbedded, and 3 PC's with Windows XP and different vintages as regards RAM, memory, CPU type and speed. Each computer is set up for different purposes: (1)My personal laptop, A 2005 GQ computer with AMD Turion 64 (1.6 GHz), upgraded 1.12GB RAM and 111 GB HD)mostly usded for personal e-mail and personal web browsing; (2)A HP Pavillion desktop with 2.8 GHZ Celeron, 504 MB RAM, and 67.5 GB HD connected to a big screen LCD/TV and used mostly for entertainment; (3)A Dell Latitude D430 (1.2GHz 790MHz Core 2; 0.99GB Ram, 74GB HD)issued to me by company I work for, set up with VPN and microsoft exchange, and a Verizon Wireless account; and (5) A MaCBook Pro (2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM) with Leopard and XP coinstalled and used mostly for company videoconferencing.
Do I choose one of my personal computers so I don't have to port everything over and reinstall if I change employers? Among personal computers do I choose the desktop since it connects to my big screen LCD/TV and my 7.1 audio system? I don't use Outlook or most Office programs on this computer and so the ability to synch up with my personal or professional e-mail, or Word, Excel or Powerpoint files is not there.
Do I choose my personal laptop or the Dell work laptop? The work laptop has the most Office files of all types, but then I would have to load my personal music and movie files from an external HD to the iPhone through the work laptop. And what happens to my iphone files if I change employers?
Do I choose the Work Mac because it is a Mac and there are
many things I can do with Iphone that requires having a Mac but I just don't know what those apps are? Here I could synch with my work e-mail, and download the music and movies from external drive, but for most office programs I will not be using the Mac. What about GarageBand? How do I access MPEG files that I have created. Is it easier with a mac? Can I preserve all my files easily if I give up the Mac?
So the advice I need is about the many features the IPhone offers.. how important is CPU processing power, or synching with office programs versus with music or video?
Thanks for any help with this.

Here are just a few suggestions others and by no means is exhaustive, I am sure others will weigh in.
-Just a cursory read of the support forum I have not seen overwhelming complaints that iPhone does not work with windows. It seems mac and windows work equally well with the iPhone
-Ringtones if you like ringtones and could see your self loading your iPhone up go with the mac. Garage Band gives you the ability to make ring tones from your own music collection for free. There are down loads like iToner etc that are unofficial ring tone makers so it makes it a little more difficult to you use.
-As long as memory of your devices exceeds 16 GB (which is as high as the iPhone goes) you will be able to take full advantage of your iPhone. Anything more will not make a difference.
-There is no heavy processing involved with your iPhone syncing to your desktop/laptop. What we are taking about is down loading contact lists music etc. No real graphics rendering is taking place. The iPhone is a seperate system you desktop/laptop to manage your iPhone for preferences downloads etc. So processing speeds do not matter that much.
-iPhone apps work with any iPhone regardless of what OS it is synced to. Even if you would like to use Mobile Me it can utilize some windows programs.
What I would do is figure out which or your personal computers you use most. Then I would set up a Mobile Me account then I would add all other computers you might use to sync with your Mobile Me account and this would solve all of your problems, for 99 bucks/year that is.

  • HT1349 im not using my regular computer - it's in storage- will I lose all the bookmarks, contacts etc that are stored on that computer?

I cannot get to  my regular computer as it is in storage, and therefore cannot back anything up. If I change over to icloud using someones else's computer will I lose all bookmarks, contacts and all things on the computer in storage?

You have a question for the iCloud support folks, I would imagine.
We handle questions about the Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express in this area. If you have a question about one of those products.....we can probably help.

  • I lost my iPhone 3Gs, when someone tries to switch the phone from my iTunes account to theirs, will I be informed of this transaction?

My daughter lost her I Phone 3GS, unfortunately I did not have find my phone on it so I cannot use that feature, but I know that if the phone is already associated with another iTunes ID, there has to be a 90 waiting period or you can transfer it, will I be informed if the device is switched?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unfortunately, whoever has your phone is more likely to simply wipe your phone and use there own iCloud account and you won't receive any notifications.

  • I upgraded my iMac and need to switch license to new computer without access to old computer?

I recently upgraded my iMac and had Photoshop CS6 migrated to my new computer. I'm unable to use photoshop now since I wasn't able to uninstall the software on the old computer. How can I switch my license from one computer to the next without access to the old computer or the access code?

If you bought it from Adobe, your serial number should be under the Adobe ID you used to buy it. Even if you did not get it from Adobe, if it was registered with Adobe, the serial number would be under "My Products" including the serial number of the product you upgraded from.
You can download the CS6 installer from here: Download CS6 products
