I need to uninstall Mavericks.  Help!

I have a Macbook Pro with 8 GB memory so all good there but since I upgraded to Mavericks yesterday, my computer is painfully slow and the worst is that I transcribe podcasts for work and it is clipping a minimum of 2 seconds off with the pause/play button.  I have tried to go back to OS X Mountain Lion but when I get to the install Mountain Lion using internet recovery, I am told I can't install Mountain Lion because I have a new version of OS X.  Is there ANY way around this?  I'm desperate to get back to work.  I'm afraid I do not have a TM Back up.

there is no way to uninstall mavericks unless you have a time machine backup or other system backup that contains a backup of before you upgraded if you dont have a backup it can be quite difficult to downgrade and can sometimes involve some data loss due to alot of application data being upgraded when you upgrade to mavericks

Install Portable Firefox 3.6.x to your hard drive for that one website. It won't affect your current Firefox installation at all. <br />

  • Driver uninstall/install help neede

Hi. I need some help with drivers. I have a SB Audigy 2 ZS, and I'm updating my drivers to the latest version, .85.55(thats what it says on the desktop icon) and EAX 4.0 Advanced HD. I have driver cleaner to clean up any remaning parts of the old drivers, and I know I need to install the EAX driver first.
But i don't know if I need to uninstall the EAX console I see in the modify menu for creative in Add/remove programs. It says I need to uninstall EAX 4.0 if I want to install new drivers, so do I need to uninstall this version of EAX? or do I just uninstall the windows drivers(the drivers for the sound card, I assume) that are listed in the menu and then install EAX 4.0 and then the new drivers?
Please be as detailed as you can be. Thanks very much.Message Edited by Hillbilly_37 on 07-3-2005 0:7 PM

Is the card a retail version, if it is not you cannot update from this site. If its a Dell PC its not a retail version.

  • I run Maverick and need to uninstall my pages, keynote and numbers and reinstall them. Are they free on Maverick?

My Mac Mini was set up by someone else who used his login to install Pages, Keynote and Numbers. Now I cannot update these.
I need to uninstall these and reinstall them with my login. Are these apps free for Maverick users?

They are not free unless you purchased them in the past on the App Store. However, if the following applies then you can get them free:
The iWork apps are free with a new iOS device since 1 SEP 2013. They are free with a new Mac since 1 OCT 2013. They are also free with the upgrade to OS X Mavericks 10.9 if you had the previous version installed when you upgraded.
iWork and iLife for Mac come free with every new Mac purchase. Existing users running Mavericks can update their apps for free from the Mac App Store℠. iWork and iLife for iOS are available for free from the App Store℠ for any new device running iOS 7, and are also available as free updates for existing users. GarageBand for Mac and iOS are free for all OS X Mavericks and iOS 7 users. Additional GarageBand instruments and sounds are available for a one-time in-app purchase of $4.99 for each platform.

  • Downloadhelper extension stopped functioning. I need to uninstall it but the extension website says to contact Firefox for such help. Will reinstalling it delete and re-create or will I end up with a non-functioning old copy and a functioning new one?

I use a year-old Macintosh with OS 10.5.8. I tried to change the video output format of downloadhelper extension from FLV to a format playable by Macs and Windows computers. In trying that, downloadhelper disappeared from the upper margin of the open screen and is no longer accessible. I want to dis-install it and then reinstall it, but there is no procedure at either the downloadhelper website or the FireFox website to do so. I am afraid to reinstall without first removing the extension. How can I remove it? The downloadhelper site specifically says to ask Firefox how to do it and offers no help.

I solved my own problem. Uninstall download helper as follows: Go to Tools|Add-ons. Click on extensions and look for "DownloadHelper in the list. On the bottom you should click on the <Uninstall> button. You'll need to restart Firefox.
Then, go to the downloadhelper extension install website on the Firefox website and reinstall downloadhelper.

  • Is there offline mavericks help? There should be an option to get it installed. We need help more often than we are online. The idea of only online help is lazy and uncaring of the dealer to clients.

    I've done just that.
And another on the finder column bug in list mode.
And a few more in the pipeline if I find the motivation: I'm afraid my long relationship with Apple is flagging. They are excessively focussed on consumer goods and leaving their core business to wither away.
Maybe more serious users aren't profitable to them, and they are happy to let it wither.
So presumably they are happy if we wander off and start focussing on all the open source  unixes out there.
p.s. not happy with general Apple trends since about 10.6.8, can anyone tell ?

  • I cannot configure yahoo small business after upgrading to Mavericks Help needed

    Hi Guys,
it is as simple as that:
I cannot configure yahoo small business after upgrading to Mavericks Help needed
    Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • When I connect my phone iTunes tells me that I need to uninstall and reinstall a 64-bit version.  I have the 64-bit version installed.  Help

I have been fighting with iTunes for the past few days.  My wife deleted a file by "accident" and I have been working to get iTunes to work ever since.  I have worked through numerous issues and managed to work through them all, but have now hit one that I can't and that I can't find a solution elsewhere.  I have done the complete uninstall (complete meaning, very complete) and reinstall of the 64-bit version of iTunes several times now.  The software works fine until I plug in my old iPhone (4).  When I do, the software popps up with a message that says that I have the wrong version of iTunes and need to uninstall my current program and reinstall the 64-bit version.  Anyone else out there had this happen and if so, what did you do???

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?

  • Trouble uninstalling - need to uninstall to fix - please help!

When I try to use itunes I get an error message saying some files are missing. I want to uninstall itunes and try reinstalling to fix the problem, but when I try to uninstall, the uninstall window opens and then does nothing - no hourglass, no movement on the progress bar, nothing.
    Q1. How can I uninstall?
Q2. Do I need to uninstall in order to properly reinstall itunes?

You may need to reinstall iTunes to get the uninstaller to function. A bit circuitous, but it should work.
Then try the steps in this post: Stepwise clean uninstallation of iTunes
