I need to unlock my phone... can you help?

I bought an Iphone 3gs second hand in a phone shop and it is not factory unlocked.. The person that sold it to me told me if i try to update the ios that the phone will lock back to vodafone uk.. Does anyone know how i can sort this problem out?

You, most likely can't. Most carriers will only authorize official unlocking for current/former customers that used the phone on their network...obviously not you. So, unless you want to first sign-up for service, using this phone, on the carrier network it is locked to, you most likely will be unable to get it officially unlocked.
Apple can't/won't help you. The carrier this phone is locked to controls this.

You can try the last four digits of your mobile number if you have not set up a password. Customer Service CANNOT reset that password for you. We do not have remote access to your personal information on your phone including passwords. I don't see why type of phone you have. The best thing to do would be a master reset. Search our support page for "Master reset" for your device type.

Why on earth did you purchase an American iPhone if you knew you were going to activate and use it in the UK?
If you like in the UK and you want to use the phone in the UK, then buy an iPhone 5 that you can actually use in the UK.
So you need to purchase the phone either through one of the phone companies of your choosing by taking out a contract - so EE (Organge and T-Mobile 4G), Vodafone, 3, or o2 or buy an unlocked iPhone directly from the Apple store itself for full price.
If you buy from e-bay you have no valid warranty if the phone goes wrong, so you won't be able to get the phone fixed in the UK, but you will physically have to go back to the US to get it fixed - iPhone warranty is country specific and NOT worldwide. If you buy the phone in the UK, then you will have an EU warranty.
Return the phone to your seller at e-bay for a full refund and start again and buy and iPhone 5 that is unlocked from the UK and then you will be able to activate it.
Do you have a sim card because you need a sim card to be able to activate a phone and have you connected it to iTunes?
Unfortunately, not all US models of the iPhone 5 have sim card slots or if they do, they are not all unlocked, so if this is the case with your phone, then you won't be able to activate it here in the UK and there is nothing that you can do. You will either have an unusable brick or you will have to return you phone to your ebay seller for a full refund.

I think my iPod touch is a 3rd generation. It is a 4.2.1 Version, 8 GB.
My 89 year old mother has totally lost her hearing. I would like to experiment with my ipod touch to see if an ipod is what she could use in her assisted living arrangement.
My ipod does not have an internal microphone as far as I can tell.
I see on the internet that I can purchase an external microphone.
I do not want a headset microphone just an external microphone where someone could speak into when the dragon app is on and it will transfer talk to text for her to read.
Can someone help me: a) do you think this will work.
b) what do I have to do to make it work.

I have a fairly unique application that I need to find a new database for. It currently uses an embedded database but we now want to go client server with it.
Background:
The application downloads a large amount of data, millions of records, from a database that runs on an IBM iSeries system. The purpose of the application is to allow the main database to be used at remote locations when a connection to the iSeries is not possible. At a later time the app uploads changed records. We want to go client-server so that the download only has to go to one PC and then other PC's can share the database across a network that our clients will set up at the remote location.
The trick is in the download performance. When we download from the iSeries we get a binary file that we can read records out of using Java's IO funcationality, one record at a time. We want to avoid having to do a SQL INSERT statement for each of the millions of records we need to place into the database because this tends to be slow. Ideally I'd like to be able to use Java IO to write the database files.
Do any of you know of a client-server database that allows this to happen?

Messes up my home network and need to restart/reset. Can you help?

I have a Verizon Actiontec router and two laptops that were running flawlessly on a wireless home network. In effort to get Xbox live online I made so many settings changes I lost track.
Now, both laptops connect to the wireless network BUT one of them only gives me a local connection to the router but does not connect to the Internet.
When I troubleshoot using Windows, I am told there is incompatibility between my network setting and my laptop settings. But, I can;t figure out where that incompatibility is.
How can I remove the wireless network and reinstall it?
Also, I changed by IPv4 settings previously. Could that be a barrier to successfully reinstalling my wireless network?
