I need to update my software but i dont want to lose all of my content. This is a new computer i am updating from and it doesnt have any of my content on it.
I went to the apple store and they told me that my version of Itunes on my Ipod touch is like 20 versions behind. My mom just bought a mac and I want to update my software but I dont want to lose all of my music,movies,shows, and pictures. I no longer have the computer that I used to put all of the content on my ipod so I am scared that if I do the update I will forever lose my content. Please tell me if I can update my software without it deleting my ipod. Thank you so much
- If you have a 1G ipod you can't update past 3.1.3. To identify yourd see:

- Be aware that if you can/do update the iOS to the latest (4.2.1 for a 2G and 4.3.4 for a 3G) you may not be able to sync to the old computer since that computer will need the latest iTunes to see/sync with the update iPod. Yo need an Max with at least OSX 10.5.8.
You can transfer iTunes purchases from the iPod to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
You can use on of the third-party programs dicussed here to transfer other stuff:

Unless you can move/copy the iPod backup file to the new computer you will loose all app data and restore from that backup. That file is located:
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

It should be Noted that anything Downloaded with a Particular Apple ID is tied to that Apple ID and Cannot be Merged or Transferred to a Different Apple ID.

Uhless this program will get the iPod out of recovery mode you will have to restore via iTunes.

i tunes will not update it says before i open itunes it wasent installed correctly but i dont want to lose everything i have how do i fix this?
It looks like you may have to reinstall itunes.
There are multiple things you should uninstall (and in a certain order) according to apple.
Also, even thought your music and itunes library information should not be affected in the uninstall, I would strongly recomend backing it up. Go to where you keep your music files and make sure you back up everything in the folders "itunes" and "itunes music".

my ipod touch is disabled for 22 million minutes and I want to fix it but I dont want to lose my pictures and everything else. Help please I dont remember the last time I updated it. You have to restore and thus erase your iPod. that is how it works.
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

Photos

Sorry, but the apps are tied to the former iTunes Store account, and if your ex wife was granted ownership, you no longer have a legal right to the apps and will have to purchase them again through your own new iTunes Store account.

You can only purchase content from your own country's store - if your account is not based in the UK (and you are not in the UK) then you won't be able to buy content from there. Is the album available on other music download purchase sites in your country ? You could try contacting Apple to say that you want it adding to your store, but ultimately it's the distributor/record company that will have to grant Apple a license to sell it there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html

Something went wrong with the update, this can and does happen with every version of iOS.
There is nothing wrong with the update.
Simply restore the device via iTunes on the computer.
If iTunes is stating it will take hours to update, that indicates an extremely slow Internet connection and is likely the reason the OTA update failed. -

I was in school earlier today and noticed that my iphone 4 needed an update, so started the update then after like 2 mintues my phone turns off and when i tried to turn it back on it told me to connect to itunes. Now im connected and it tells me i must restore my phone...And i really dont want to lose my pictures and stuff like that so someone please tell me what i can do...
Sorry, you have no choice but to restore your phone now. If your data was not backed up before you attempted to update, it is gone.

I had to reformat my laptop, so all of the previously sync'd photos are in my photo library, not in my cameral roll.
I'm able to sync my camera roll, but not my photo library.
I dont want to lose the photos in the photo library if the upgraded to ios5 deletes all data.
What is the recommendation for this or does it delete the photo library?
thanksYou must be connected to the network you wish to forget. If you are, head to Settings -> Wi-fi and click the > next to the network you are currently connected to. At the top of the next screen is the button to "Forget this Network."

If you backed up the iPad before you tried to update, you can restore the iOS and then restore from the backup. If you don't have a backup, there is nothing that you can do about it now.
You will have to restore the iPad in order to make it operational again and you will lose all of your data. If you don't sync with iTunes and cannot recover your media again that way, you can download most purchased content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. -

HELP!!! I need to update to 2.0 but I dont want to lose my text messages...
I need to update my iPhone original 16 gb to the 2.0 software version but I cannot lose the text messages that are on the phone now. I have a few vital text messages that I cannot lose because I need them for court. The problem is, I need to do a screen print of them so I can email them to myself & then print them out. I need to update the iPhone in order to do the screen print, so i'm at a loss of what to do.
Does anyone know anything about if I will lose the text messages for sure or not? I have read a few posts about people who have lost their info, but it sounds like they are just a select few. If it's not a definite, i'll just go ahead, cross my fingers, & update the phone.
