I need to upgrade in stages from OS 10.6.8 in order to save important Appleworks
Apple support directs me to the newest software, and I see I missed several stages. I'd like to stage my updates so I can update those documents one step at a time, without losing important content. Thanks for any help you can offer in helping me find what I need! My Safari 5.1.10 and my javascript plug-in for online uses both need updates, and I'm sure that the OS improvement will help my security features.
Thanks for your answer! I'm going to do this and also back up my Appleworks files using a partition as Neil suggested! I am so grateful for this computing community!
Best wishes,

Help needed on upgrading portal application from sp3 to weblogic portal 10
Hi Guys
I have an application which is currently running on BEA Weblogic Portal 8.1 sp3. We need to upgrade our application from 8.1 sp3 to BEA Weblogic 10 version.
(1) Is there any way for upgradation from 8.1 sp3 to portal 10 directly or do I need to upgrade it from sp3 to sp4 and then from sp4 to portal 10? Pls clarify?
(2) How reliable are the BEAs automated scripts for retaining the personalization/customization of my application on sp3 to upgraded version i.e portal 10?
(3) I believe, we do not need to do any coding/design changes/architectural changes into my application for this upgrade.
Any help on this will be highly appreciated
Thanks
Jameel1) I believe only sp4 and later to weblogic 10 is supported (http://www.bea.com/content/news_events/white_papers/BEA_WL_Portal10_ds.pdf)
so yes i think you need to upgrade from sp3 to a later version of the service pack
2) You tell us :)
3) Depends on your application and the features you have used. E.g. I believe Content management has changed between sp3 and what 10 supports.

I've just upgraded to Lion from Snow Leopard and to my surprise it does not support my 'Appleworks' application software. Ihave used Appleworks for all correspondence for six years and need to refer to the files (letters etc.) from time to time. Is my only option to revert back to Snow Leopard?
The reason appleworks no longer runs is because it is a powerpc based application. Since it's end-of-life in 2007, it was never converted to intel architecture, since it was dropped as a supported product. It continued to run on intel machines via rosetta, but OS X Lion formally discontinues all support for powerpc based programs. Powerpc based applications can only be run on OS X 10.6.8 or earlier releases (ones that still support rosetta).
So, it does sound like your best option is to move to iWorks' Pages now - otherwise you will be stuck with an increasingly more outdated operating system. And if you should buy a new machine, it would not run the older versions of OS X anyway, so at some point you have to leave appleworks behind and move on. Seems best to do it now, before Pages perhaps also moves forward to a point where it too may no longer support ancient file formats.

Need to upgrade my MacBook from Snow Leopard. Should I go straight to Yosemite?
I am a nervous person. The idea of upgrading always fills me with dread. I have way too much to do, to have computer problems. Yet my MacBook is getting sluggish (I can type faster than the words show up, now). It's probably because I still run 10.6.8 - I know I need to upgrade but I have two questions:
1) Should I go straight to Yosemite, bypassing the others inbetween? (vs. going one upgrade at a time)
2) What will happen if it gets halfway through the upgrade and I don't have enough space or memory? Does it just stop and cancel the upgrade? Or will things get messed up.
Thanks!Pfffft....I'll just copy and paste the report....
Problem description:
1. disables mouse click; can move the cursor but can’t select/initiate anything.
2. crashes
3. deletes desktop icons; can’t see internal or external drives.
4. disables a lot of 3rd party software.

Please help! I need to upgrade my Mac from 10.4.11 to Leopard.
It's a PowerPC G4. Can I upgrade to 10.5.6 or do I need to upgrade to 10.5 first? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
You need to use a retail DVD to upgrade; if it's a 10.5.6 DVD, you don't need the 10.5 one.

I cannot find where I can just go to pick an upgrade or update that just says (press this button to download) I am
new to the ipad, I just need some guidance. can someone help?If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 7.0.4. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.
You can no longer update to iOS 6.x, or down grade the iOS.

How to install iOS 6
http://www.macworld.com/article/2010061/hands-on-with-ios-6-installation.htmlhttp://www.macworld.com/article/2010061/hands-on-with-ios-6-installation.html
iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and antivirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.
How to Upgrade to iOS 7
The iOS 7.0 update requires around 2.5 GB of storage space, so if your iPad is almost full, you may need to clear up some space. You can check your available space in Settings -> General -> Usage.
There are two ways to upgrade to iOS 7: You can use your Wi-Fi connection, or you can connect your iPad to your PC and update through iTunes. We'll go over each method.
To upgrade using Wi-Fi:
Note: If your iPad's battery is under 50%, you will want to plug it into your charger while performing the update.
Go into the iPad's Settings.
Locate and tap "General" from the menu on the left.
The second option from the top is "Software Update". Tap this to move into the update settings.
Tap "Download and Install". This will start the upgrade, which will take several minutes and will reboot your iPad during the process. If the Download and Install button is grayed out, trying clearing up some space. The space required by the update is mostly temporary, so you should gain most of it back after iOS 7 is installed.
Once the update is installed, you may have to run through the initial steps of setting up your iPad again. This is to account for new features and settings.
To upgrade using iTunes:
First, connect your iPad to your PC or Mac using the cable provided when you purchased your device. This will allow iTunes to communicate with your iPad.
You will also need the latest version of iTunes. Don't worry, you will be prompted to download the latest version when you launch iTunes. Once it installs, you may be asked to setup iCloud by logging into your iTunes account. If you have a Mac, you may be prompted on whether or not you want to enable the Find my Mac feature.
Now you are ready to begin the process:
If you upgraded iTunes earlier, go ahead and launch it. (For many, it will launch automatically when you plug in your iPad.)
Once iTunes is launched, it should automatically detect that a new version of the operating system exists and prompt you to upgrade to it. Choose Cancel. Before updating, you will want to manually sync your iPad to make sure everything is up to date.
After canceling the dialog box, iTunes should automatically sync with your iPad.
If iTunes doesn't automatically sync, you can manually do it by selecting your iPad within iTunes, clicking on the File menu and choosing Sync iPad from the list.
After your iPad has been synced to iTunes, select your iPad within iTunes. You can find it on the left side menu under Devices.
From the iPad screen, click on the Update button.
After verifying that you want to update your iPad, the process will begin. It takes a few minutes to update the operating system during which time your iPad may reboot a few times.
After updating, you may be asked a few questions when your device finally boots back up. This is to account for new settings and features.

Need Help upgrading IQ816t Touchscreen from Vista Home Prem to Win7 Ult
I purchased (eBAY) 25" IQ816t with Vista Home Prem, and seller provided Win7 Ult AIO disk with the deal. Seller reset to base OS prior to shipping to me. Everything works fine w/Vista.
When trying to run the AIO disk, using UPGRADE mode, I get conflicting message(s)...you can not upgrade from 64 bit to 32 bit;...and you can not upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit. What gives? I am doing something wrong?
Seller firm in that they had Win7 Ult running fine and that the AIO disk should work fine.
Thanks in advance.
MikeI have the same model you have. Our model is Vista 64, so if you are trying to upgrade, you can only upgrade to Win 7 64, and it sounds like you got a Win 7 32 disc. See if it will let you do a full install of it and not an upgrade, if it won't, you need to get the Win7 64 disc for this.

Need help Upgrading (Upsell version) from CS1 Premium to CS4 Premium
I just purchased the new IMac (late 2009 version) that comes with Leopard. I also purchased an Upsell of CS4 design premium to update my CS1 Premium. Has anyone done this before? Do I need to first install the original CS1 before upgrading to CS4? I have the serial number for CS1 just not sure if it will install to begin with, since it was created for G5 not the Intel version.
Anyway, what's the difference between an Upsell and an Upgrade? It costs more, but I was told that's what I need. Do they really have different discs inside the box?Just have the serial number and disk for CS handy. You don't need to install it.
What you have is not technically and upsell. An upsell is from a different product such as Photoshop to Creative Suite. There are two upgrade paths for the suite. From CS/CS2 and from CS3.

When I search for updates it says that my mac is updated. How do I upgrade to the newer version of Mac OS X? I need this in order to install the newest version of itunes and upgrade my phone.
In order to go to Snow Leopard 10.6 it is necessary to purchase an install DVD. Call Apple and order it.
Once you have upgraded to Snow Leopard then you can update to 10.6.8

Do I need to upgrade to RoboHelp from RoboInfo Publisher 5.0.2?
I created and continue to maintain the online manuals, policies and procedures for a bank using RoboInfo Publisher 5.0.2. I'm self-taught on RoboInfo and looking for resources to learn more about using RoboInfo. Since it is no longer supported, I wonder if it would be a better situation to upgrade to the current RoboHelp product and get involved in the official training/tutorial process. Is RoboHelp easier to use than RoboInfo?
Any ideas or recommendations?
Thanks!
ChrisHi there
I have long been aware of RoboInfo Publisher, but I've never seen nor used it. I always understood (or possibly just thought) that it was like a watered down version of RoboHelp.
As the product has become defunct, I'd say it would make total sense to upgrade to RoboHelp 8 and attend a class on how to use it.
Cheers... Rick

Need to get a JPG from stream, resize, convert again to JPG and save in DB
Hi:
I have a J2EE Applicaction wich is a migration from a ASP.NET project to Java.
That web application is like a photo album service, where people can upload pictures. I take the pictures inside a bussiness object, containing two some fields, but one for the image is being uploaded and other one for the small representation of that picture, I mean a Thumbail or a resized image.
Everything works excepct one thing, I dont know how to generate the thumbail. I seen lot of information about that, included JAI, but the problem is the next... I need to resize the image, and then, to save it into my bussiness object as a JPG image. I found how to resize the image, but always explanations stop there, and I need to know if exists one esasier way to do that (JAI is simply great, but for my project should to be too much), and how to implement a solution for my problem.
In a few words:
1 I have the JPG picture (as byte[]) inside one property in one of my objects
2 I need to save in the other property a small version of the JPG picture, so I need to resize and preserve JPG format, and be able to get the byte[] of the picture.
If is posible to help my, it could help me so much!!!!
Plaase, excuse me for my horrible english, and greetings from Madrid.Hi, thanks so much!... After of working on it, I got the nest code using JPEGEncode, but when trying to get image I get a expection wich says:

HT1338 How to upgrade MacBook Pro from OS 10.5 (Leopard) to Mountain Lion?
How do I upgrade a MacBook Pro from OS 10.5 (Leopard) to Mountain Lion? Do I need to upgrade in stages, i.e. to Snow Leopard, then to Lion, then to Mountain Lion, or can it be a more direct route?
R.Hi Richard,
You need at least 10.6.6 installed to get & use the App store for purchase & download, & just read that Lion/10.7 is no longer available!???
Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
General requirements
* Mac computer with an Intel processor
* 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
* 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
* DVD drive for installation
* Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
* Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...
http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/
It looks like they might still have it...
http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA
It's been reported that if you have a MobileMe account, it may be free from Apple.
If it's a core Duo & not a Core2Duo, then it'll only run in 32 bit mode.
Lion/101.7 System requirements
• x86-64 processor (Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
• At least 2GB of memory, I say 6 GB
• Latest version of Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8), with the Mac App Store installed
• At least 4GB of disk space for downloading, I say 50 GB.
Like Snow Leopard, Lion does not support PowerPC-based Macs (e.g., Power Macs, PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs (G3-G5), eMacs).
Lion also does not support 32-bit Intel Core Duo or Core Solo based Macs. Rosetta is no longer available in Lion, which means Lion no longer supports PowerPC applications.

What applications are not compatible with Mac OS X 10.7 "Lion"?
http://ow.ly/5Iz09
http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Macs that will support OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
As usual, the newer the Mac the better:
• MacBook Pro – 13″ from mid 2009 or later, 15″ from late 2007 and newer, 17″ from late 2007 and newer
• MacBook Air – late 2008 and newer
• iMac – models from mid 2007 and newer
• MacBook – 13″ aluminum from 2008, 13″ from 2009 and newer
• Mac Mini – early 2009 and newer
• Mac Pro – early 2008 models and newer
• XServe – early 2009 models and newer
Macs that are NOT expected to support OS X Mountain Lion
Older Macs and those with weaker GPU’s will likely be left behind:
• Anything with an Intel GMA 950 or x3100 integrated graphics card
• Anything with an ATI Radeon X1600
• MacBook models released prior to 2008
• Mac Mini released prior to 2007
• iMac models released prior to 2007
• Original MacBook Air
This list of compatible and incompatible Macs and system requirements are based off of the first OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview and may be subject to change, we will update when we learn more about the specifics. OS X Mountain Lion will be released this summer but presumably long before that we will know precise system requirements and what Macs are and are not supported by the new version of OS X. Stay tuned.
