I need to upgrade my Apple iPod touch 3 to iOS 4 or higher

I need to upgrade my apple iPod touch 3 to IOS 4.3 or higher...I tried downloading a game in apple store it's prompting a message

Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article; devices running an iOS version prior to 5.0 can't be updated straight from the device. It will be updated to the newest iOS release supported by the device’s hardware.
The maximum iOS version for the original iPhone and first generation iPod touch is 3.1.3.
The maximum iOS version for the iPhone 3G and second generation iPod touch is 4.2.1.
The maximum iOS version for the third generation iPod touch and original iPad is 5.1.1.
The maximum iOS version for the fourth generation iPod touch is 6.1.5.
If you don't know what device you have, append the last three characters of its serial number to http://www.everymac.com/ultimate-mac-lookup/?search_keywords= and load the page.

  • Unable to upgrade a new iPod touch to iOS 5 (Windows)

My daughter has a Windows 7 laptop, and I am trying to upgrade her iPod touch to iOS 5. I have already upgraded her iTunes. When I connect her iPod, it asks if I want to update the software. I say yes. A few minutes later, it says "backing up device," but the progress bar never gets past a centimeter. I have left it alone for HOURS, and I have tried this several times. My husband tried turning off Windows Defender and the firewall, not sure if that would have made a difference but it didn't anyways. We don't have any other anti-virus running on the computer. Why won't her iPod touch back up?
    Thanks in advance--
    Susan

Close iTunes and disconnnect the iPod.  The move the existing backup file to a new location so that iTues has to create an entire new file.  The file is located here:
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.
The try again. If necessary, you may have to place your iPod in recovery mode to get iTunes to see the iPod so that you can update the iPod. For recovery mode see:

  • HT1353 how to upgrade the apple ipod touch OS, I have 32gb ipod touch 3rd generation(Model: A1318)

Also till which iOS version it can be enhanced???
Can it be upgraded through wifi connection or does it require the laptop connection???

The upgrade must go with iTunes. The first upgrade directly with the iDevice you can do when you have iOS5 or higher.
The maximum iOS on your iPod Touch is 5.1.1.
Thus: connect to iTunes, and start update: it will update in one step to 5.1.1.  My take some time, and then the iPod restarts, do not disconnect until the iPod touch is running with the new iOS.

    Thank you.

Sorry but it is not possible. iOS 4.2.1 is the last version a 2nd-generation iPod touch can run.

  • Upgrading Apple iPod Touch (MC544LL/A 32GB 4th Generation) from iOS 4.3.5 to iOS 5

could some boody guide me about how to upgrade an Apple iPod Touch (MC544LL/A 32GB 4th Generation) from iOS 4.3.5 to iOS 5. i have itunes 10.6.1. when i try to upgrade it gives me an option to upgrade it to iOS 5.1.1 but i dont want to do that as i have a custom app which can only run on iOS 5.0. Any suggestions would be welcome
    regards

    Kalpesh:
"Back in the day" one could roll back an iPod to a previous version because of how Apple controlled updates.  Later on, Apple decided to change the process.  That change makes it impossible to roll back to a previous version of iOS.
Basically, Apple forces iTunes to "phone home," and request permission to update your device.  At that point Apple's update server looks at your device type, device id, and iOS version.  If you are running an older version of iOS, and if your hardware is supported by the latest version, then iTunes is allowed to update your device.  Roll back are not permitted.  Period, end of story....
So then you have two choices:
    1.  Do not update your iPod to 5.1.1
    2.  Have the app written for 5.1.1 and then upgrade your iPod.
Oh, and if you still have doubts, let your mouse cursor do the walking and search the archives...  And Google will no doubt find TONS of info about this...

  • HT201303 hi just got my new apple ipod touch i need to update my security information other wise it wont let me download apps it says to enter three questions about myself and i get to the third question and it wont let me enter the third question

hi just got my new apple ipod touch and to download apps it wants to add questions about myself for more sercurity information. i get up to question 3 and it wont let me select a question but it will let me write an answer so i just pressed done and then it says i cant carry on because ive mised out information when it wont let me do a question!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You might try to see if you can change your security questions. Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account > Password and Security.
I'm able to do this, others say they need to input answers to their current security questions in order to make changes, I'm inclined to think its worth a try, you don't have anything to lose.
If that doesn't help you might try contacting Apple through Express Lane (select your country, navigate to iCloud help and enter the serial number of one of your devices)

A 1G iPod can go as high as 3.1.3 by:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)

There are still not that many compatible apps for 3.1.3

  • Apple Ipod Touch

I have a 32gb apple ipod touch 4th generation that is syncing, takes pictures, etc, however all you see is a black screen. I have reset, held down sleep and home button, and nothing is getting the actual visibility back. Can someone please help me?

    Hi Daniel,
If your iPod came with the January Software Upgrade, then when you restore it, your Upgrade won't be deleted. All your music will be erased and you'll need to sync them again.
However, if your iPod didn't come with the January Software Upgrade, then when you restore it, your Upgrade will be deleted and you only need to connect it to the computer where you purchased the upgrade.

  • Upgrading of older ipod touch

I believe that the apple company should consider the upgrading of older ipod touch and take action for us, customers, who have such devices and need an upgrading to newer operating system on an old version of ipod touch.

Many newer apps require iOS versions later than iOS 4.2.1 which is probably what you're using. It's all part of a vast conspiracy to get us to buy new stuff all the time.
You can determine requirements for the apps you want to buy by searching for them in the iTunes App Store:

The iPod's firmware is corrupt. You'll need to restore it again in iTunes. If necessary, place the iPod in recovery mode for iTunes to recognize the device. Use the instructions in this Apple support document to walk you through the process of placing the iPod Touch into recovery mode.

  • Error 8288 when upgrading my first gen Ipod Touch to IOS 3.1.

I am having some trouble trying to get IOS 3.1 on my first generation Ipod touch.  I have the latest Itunes, I do not have any dvd burning software like Anydvd that can interfere, and I've tried it on two different computers with no avail.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

    msoviolist, I opened a ticket via their so called "Express Lane" support page, I assume it'll take a couple of emails before they decide to credit you for the download. I would suggest linking to these two threads in the correspondence, this is what I included in the message;
