I need to upgrade my HD, how do I clone my current HD?

I need to upgrade from a 500GB to a TB hard drive. How do I clone my current HD to the new TB drive and use it as the main drive? I plan to remove the 500GB completly and nee the TB to be the boot drive
I'm sure the instruction are out there but I couldn't find them. Thanks in advance

Clone
Disk utility has RESTORE which will also clone your system but not the Lion Recovery partition. Oddly  Apple did not 'endorse' making bootable clone of the system which works too but most choose Carbon Copy Cloner - it works more consistently; it allows for smart update of the backup volume. Both can backup to a sparse disk image if desired.

You don't. iOS 5.1.1 is the latest version that will run on an iPad1.

  • Videos show "blocked plug-in".  YouTube says I need to upgrade Safari.  How?

    Hi!
First time on this forum.  I updated to Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.0 last May. (Computer came with Leopard.)  It was working fine but now videos don't play--"blocked plug-in" message appears.  YouTube says I need new version of my browser.  How do I update Safari?  Software sent to me is up-to-date. I also just installed new version of Adobe Flash Player as instructed. Thanks for your help.

    Hi again Susan1357,
I noticed that your 2008 iMac is running with only a paultry 1 GB of RAM (Random Access Memory).
I do not know what you do with your IMac and whether it seems to run slow or slower than usual.
Your year and model iMac can take a max. RAM amount of 6 GBs in total
Purchasing and installing this much RAM would really speed up your Mac running 10.6.8, considerably.
Correct, compatible and reliable Mac RAM can ONLY be purchased from online RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (http://www.macsales.com).
OWC are the only online RAM vendor to supply the 6 GB RAM kit.
Here is a link to the kit
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/6400DDR2S6GP/
RAM is the only thing Apple lets users install and they have made it, relatively, easy for newbie and novice Mac users to install with very minimal fuss and minimal tools needed.
Here's a video that show you how easy it is to install RAM into your model iMac.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/imac_mid_2007_mem_h/
If you watch the video (it is only 5 minutes long) this is the amount of time or just a little longer, if you are being more careful, that is needed to install RAM modules iinto your iMac.
You really do not need your daughter-in-law to do this as it is a simple process once you have purchased the RAM kit online and receive it.
You can install the 4 GB module and the 2 GB module into either slot. It makes no difference.
I just thought I would point out this RAM issue for you and show you that, in this instance, you can do this yourself without waiting for someone else to do this for you. This hardware upgrade is a much easier task than doing any software upgrades/updates of your Mac's system software.

  • HT1338 I have MacBook with OS 10.5.8. Is there any way for me to install and run keynote on this machine? Do I need to upgrade OS and how? Thanks

I have MacBook with OS 10.5.8
Is there any way for me to install and run Keynote on this machine? Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Keynote '09 is compatible with your computer, but you won't get the latest Keynote version running that version. As you have an Early 2008 MacBook, first I recommend you to update to Mac OS X Snow Leopard to get newer versions of all applications but without losing any applications > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard Make a backup before upgrading.
The DVD contains Mac OS X 10.6.3, so after upgrading, open  > Software Update to update to 10.6.8. Then, you will get access to the App Store.
However, the Keynote version available in the App Store is only compatible with OS X 10.7.5 or newer, so now you have two options:
    1. Upgrade to OS X Lion and purchase Keynote from the App Store.
    2. Keep Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard, and buy Keynote on a DVD in eBay or Amazon. Note that you won't be running the most recent Keynote version, but it doesn't mind (the latest version only adds iCloud support)

  • How do i know what OS X version i have and if i need to upgrade

Hello everyone, how do I know if I need to upgrade to mountaint lion or leapord? I currently have mac os x 10.6.8.

You don't need to upgrade if Mac OS X 10.6.8 is adequate for what you're using the computer for. If you'd like to, open the Mac App Store and try purchasing Mountain Lion 10.8. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU with at least 2GB of RAM, and if it does, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.

  • According to the apple website I need to upgrade Boot camp 3.0 to at least 3.1 in order to install Windows 7 on my iMac currently running Snow Leopard. I download the 3.1 version but it is only a text file and there doesn't appear to be any way to upgrade

In order to install Windows 7 on my iMac I need to upgrade bootcamp to at least 3.1  I currently have 3.0.4 After downloading from the website there is no way to install it - it is just a text file? What should I do?

You have to start with 3.0, which is on the OSX disc that came wih your Mac.

I'm assuming it's trying to tell me I have an older iTunes Library, but don't know that.  Geez, maybe people over 60 shouldn't have iPhones, iTunes just bafles me.

If you're not using chrome you can just go to adobe's website (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/) and download the newest flash player.  You run the .dmg and then open the application, which updates flash.  With the latest version of flash there should be a preference pane within system preferences to allow you to change settings and check for updates.

Ah yes.  South Africa.   I checked the international listings for you but there seems to be no direct Apple support in South Africa.   I cannot imagine why since the political restraints for countries like Iran are not those of South Africa.
I understand that Apple United States do not ship orders outside of the USA.
You may have to contact Apple Head Office.

How do I back up and sync my ipad2 without losing content on my iPad.???
I need really simple instructions as I've had a bad run with my laptop the last month.
I have re-installed iTunes,it currently has no content in it
all my music, photos etc had been saved to a an external Hardrive (phew)so I'm not concerned about losing them during a sync, but how do I sync my Ipad without losing the applications... The last back up saved was in June when I still had an ipad1
I tried to back it up last night but kept getting the prompts something to the effect of "iPad can only be synced to 1 iTunes library, syncing will erase all content and replace with content on this iTunes library".
Help please,, I've already lost endless hours fixing my PC issues,so I'm not game to attempt this issue without guarantee I won't lose everything, need a simple solution that anyone can follow as my brain has information overload!!! Lol
    Thanks

This should help you out. I copied this from another discussion a while back. Here is the original discussion link.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/11527071#11527071
This is what is in the discussion. It really doesn't get any easier than this.
    1) Without connecting your iPad to your laptop, start iTunes. Click on Edit. Click on Preferences. Click on Devices. Check the box next to "Prevent your iPod etc. from automatically syncing." Click OK.
    2) Now connect your iPad to your laptop and start iTunes.
    3) When iTunes starts, right click on your iPad under Devices in the left column. Select Transfer purchases etc.
    4) After it finishes transferring all your apps to your new laptop, right click on your iPad and select Backup your iPad.
    5) After it finishes backing up your iPad, right click on your iPad and select Restore etc.
    6) After it finishes restoring, left click on your iPad , then click on the Apps tab on top, and check the box next to Sync Apps, then click on Apply below.
If everything on your iPad looks good after the sync, go back and click on Edit / Preferences / Devices and UN-check the box next to Prevent your iPod etc. The only other thing you may want to check is if your contacts, bookmarks, etc. are syncing correctly now. If not, go to the Info tab after connecting and make sure you indicate which features you want to sync with what sources.
