I need to upgrade my MAC OS X 10.4.11.

I have a MacBook OS X 10.4.11 2GHz Intel Core Duo 1GB Memory. I currently need to upgrade it, Do I upgrade to Snow Leopard?

Backup, erase and reinstall 10.6 (erase the entire internal drive)
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
For Snow Leopard Speed Freaks
10.6.8 is as far as you go and your older 10.4 software will have to be upgraded so it's better to install all newer verisons.
LibreOffice is free, Firefox is free
And Adobe CS2 is being given away for free which runs on 10.6 (but not any later OS X version)

There is no 10.7 DVD You're getting 10.7 only via App Store or USB Stick, where did you get that DVD?
    The easiest way:
Open the App Store on 10.6.8 > Search for Lion > Purchase and the rest will be done automatically

    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,

    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase a redemption code at the Online Apple Store: OS X Mountain Lion. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. Use the code to redeem a download of Mountain Lion from the App Store. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion

Restart with the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD in the drive or with the Lion USB drive connected, hold down the Option key just after the restart, tab to the installation disk, and press Enter. If the computer has a firmware password set, it needs to be provided for this to work.

  • Dear I need to upgrade my Mac Bookpro from 10.4.11 to the latest software is there is any solutions in order to buy install the software online through itunes or so

Dear I need to upgrade my Mac Bookpro from 10.4.11 to the latest software is there is any solutions in order to buy install the software online through itunes or so

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X.)
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion

  • Does anyone know what I need to upgrade from Mac OS 9.1 to Mac OS 10.4??

I have a PowerBook G4 curently running Mac OS 9.1. I was wondering if someone could tell me what I need in order to upgrade to Mac OS 10.4 "Tiger". My processor does not support "leopard" so that is out of question.
    Thanks,
    Josh
PS. If you have know what I need, can you please give me a website where I can find it.
    Thanks Again

You will need to purchase a retail copy of the Tiger installation package. Since Apple no longer sells them you will need to look on the third-party marketplace. Try eBay or FastMac.com. Be sure you get the retail version. It consists of one DVD with a black label and large gray "X". Do not buy gray labeled OEM versions as the are machine specific and may not work. Do not buy an Upgrade disc as they will not work either unless you have a previous version of OS X already installed.
Since you failed to tell us the specific model you have we can't tell whether yours requires a firmware update. If it does it must be installed while booted directly into OS 9.1.
Your computer also must have at least 256 MBs of installed RAM (512 MBs or more is recommended) and at least 6-8 GBs of free space on the hard drive. A 500 MHz CPU or faster is recommended.

  • I need to upgrade from Mac OS Xv 10.0.4 to a higher OS X but need help!!!

Need to know if there a Mac OS Xv 10.0.5 or anything that will upgrade from Mac OS Xv 10.0.4.
How can I keep Mac OS 9 & upgrade Mac OS X?
    Please let me know?
Please tell me as soon as you done reading this post.
    Thank You!

Mac OS X 10.0.4 was the last update for the 10.0 (Cheetah) release. There was a free update to 10.1 (Puma), but that was distributed via CD at the time, for the "early adopters" who bravely installed Mac OS X 10.0, and that can get you up to 10.1.5 with additional downloadable updaters. But I do not think the 10.1 update it is available as a free download, so you cannot go beyond 10.0.4 without obtaining a Mac OS X installer disk for a higher release.
How can I keep Mac OS 9 & upgrade Mac OS X?
Unless you intentionally select the "erase and install" option in the Mac OS X installer, your previous data (including a Mac OS 9 installation) should be retained on the drive.

  • Need Help Upgrading Old Mac

I have a macbook pro 15.4 Inch purchased in 2007 *The first intel based mac i believe- But im having trouble upgrading- I tried to upgrade to Snow leopard 10.6.8 (im on 10.5.4) now and i need to upgrade desperatley to run programs i use, The body of the computer (keyboard is shot so i use an external keyboard) when i downloaded different DMGS of snowleopard-i cant get any of them to work and do a DMG instal as you normal would. I tried my original (INSTALL Disks that the my computer came with to an archive install- but the drive kicks the dvds out once i hit option - to try to boot the disk when the computer starts up (the computer's body is ****** but it works ok- it has to be plugged in all the time) but i dont know how i can update my system i  even tried snow leopard 911 - but even when i put it on a 4GB hard drive and tried to boot from my little thumb drive (by pushing C on start up) it just started up regularly. I was gonna take smewhere to have an archive install but it would cost me 120.00 per the visit (since this computer isnt worth much and i just need it to be able to run until i get a new one in 2013) - Ive done everything tested the PRAM , done a "C" and even option boots it to EFI mode, which i dont want ive downloaded mutliple DMGS of snow leopard and they dont work , i just want to upgrade!! - Can you help!! if you have ANY solutions

I'm not sure where you're getting dmg files of Snow Leopard - it was only ever released on disc. You can order it directly from the Apple Store on disc here - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard. If your optical drive isn't working, you'll just have to get a fairly inexpensive external optical drive to install the upgrade.
It really sounds as if your machine is shot. I had a 2006 model (which was actually the first Intel MBP) and it's still working. But I took care of it. Sounds as if you've been a little rough on yours.
I'm not certain that the SL update is going to do you any good - but it's worth a try, I guess.

  • Please help! I need to upgrade my Mac from 10.4.11 to Leopard.

It's a PowerPC G4. Can I upgrade to 10.5.6 or do I need to upgrade to 10.5 first?  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You need to use a retail DVD to upgrade; if it's a 10.5.6 DVD, you don't need the 10.5 one.

  • I need to upgrade from Mac OS X 10.6.8... what's my next best option?

Can, and should I, upgrade from Mac OS X 10.6.8 to OS X 10.7.5... I've never bought anything through the Apple store but they don't appear to be helpful in providing guidance. Thank you.

    You could check to see the details in Mac OS X Support page;
    http://www.apple.com/support/osx/
Also there is this page where upgrade paths are mentioned...
    http://www.apple.com/support/osx/upgrade/
Some people find issues with Mavericks 10.9.x in their older
Macs which were not exactly built with it in mind. So be
sure to have a backup plan where you could go back, first.
A tested-bootable clone on suitable external HDD is a good bet.
There have been some issue with third-party driver or other
support to make older hardware work in 10.9.2. Also some
older applications that ran fine in OS X 10.6.8 may not later.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Need to Upgrade current Mac OS 10.3.9 - Tiger or Leopard

I am looking for advice - Need to update Mac OS x. Should I go with Tiger or Leopard? I have read several negative issues about Leopard not being ready for 'prime time'. Want to have a seamless upgrade with minimum downtime. Plus, read that Leopard doesnt have I-Photo and I-DVD so have to purchase I-Life-

The retail version of OS X Tiger and Leopard do not include iLife. It is bundled with the restore disks when you buy a new Mac. If you have an older version of iLife you can install it on Leopard or Tiger by inserting the restore disk and click 'install bundled software'. You may want to buy iLIfe '08 for maximum compatibility and new features. (I'm guessing your version if iLife is quite old).
I'd personally recommend Leopard as it's the latest and greatest, although you should upgrade your RAM as 512mb is the bare minimum.
I also recommend you use the 'erase+install' option as people generally don't have many issues installing OS X this way. (Compared to an upgrade install for example).

  • I need to upgrade my Mac OS X 10.1.5

I called Apple, but they did not have an OS upgrade for me. The sales rep said I might be able to upgrade to something, but was not sure.
Sorry, this iMac has never been used. It has been in a box for a decade I guess.
    Thanks,
    Frank

With the Combo optical drive, an OS upgrade to Tiger 10.4(.11)
would be possible; that retail version is on DVD media. Since
your label suggests the iMac G4 700 has 1024MB or 1GB of RAM
installed, that is the most it could be upgraded to. A 40GB
hard disk drive would be OK.
(You could add an OWC Mercury Legacy SSD solid state PATA drive
for a few hundred dollars and that'd really make it faster.)
If the computer has not been started up and you just took it
out of the box to read some documentation, it is worth more
to you if you sold it as a 'new collectible' and then use
the funds from there, along with a bit more, to get a newer
Mac computer that could run at least OS X 10.5 or later.
Not sure what a mint condition unused iMac G4 15" with Combo
drive, 1GB RAM, and 40 GB hard disk drive is worth. Does it
have the round speakers? How about an AirPort wireless card?
The cost of a Tiger 10.4 retail install DVD may run you as much
as $100.+ That is a good beginning; however Tiger is also about
the last upgrade the computer can officially support due to the
hardware vintage and later product developments over the years.
    The computer would probably need a new clock battery installed;
and this is a tech job involving a take-apart of the base unit.
This can kill an iMac if done improperly. A battery is about $10.
If you know of someone who has upgraded their hardware and has
a retail full install DVD for Tiger 10.4 in nice condition, you
may be able to get the latest supported OS X version for less.
If you aren't in a hurry, bargains are where you find them.
And, with Tiger 10.4 updates are available for Tiger, to 10.4.11
& security updates, Java updates, quicktime update; free download.
iTunes 9.2.1 is free (8.2.1 is still available, says it's for G3s)
and there is a flash player that could work, hiding in archive at
Adobe's old apps web page. A few web browsers are still current.
iLife '06 may be about the last version supported in that iMac G4.
Perhaps an earlier one, due to the hardware limits of the machine.
iLife '06 has iPhoto, iWeb, GarageBand, iMovie, iDVD; additionally,
if you buy iLife (even if someone gives you iLife '06 on CD) you
can download the later step updates for these parts of iLife online.
An intel-based iMac with Core 2 Duo processors and other hardware
would be more modern; supported. ie: free download/update, & more
applications available into the future, that can run on it.
Some people would be unwilling to pay a decent price for a 'new'
iMac G4 in the box. The price on speculation would go down plenty
if you opened the box, took out the computer, and started it up.
So, the collector who'd want the box, the computer and the NEW,
would be in a position to acquire one for a museum or collection.
+{A new iPad 2 with wi-fi plus 3G would be more useful nowadays.}+
    However that works out...
    Good luck & happy computing!
