I need to upgrade my macbook's RAM-how do i upgrade?

i have a macbook that i need to upgrade to 4 or 8GB of RAM. what i need to know is if this is a good quality of RAM.
heres the link (i will try and post the info for you but i dont know if i will get everything you need to know so i will post the link as well)
this one is the 4GB
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/8566DDR3S4GP/
this one is the 8GB
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/8566DDR3S8GP/
the reason i need to upgrade is because i use my macbook for all of my video and picture editing. i use imovie and iphoto. what i need to know is should i upgrade to the 4 or the 8? i want to get lion but i need more ram before i upgrade because i have heard that if you dont have 4GB of ram or more lion runs slow. also i need to know if this is good ram. i know that there are different kinds of ram so i want to know how good this ram is and if it will hold up to my standards.
also what is your opion about buying lion? does anyone like lion? should i wait for mountain lion? and does anyone know what the mountain lion specs are?

I need to have my macbook pro repaired how can I hide passwords and banking info?

Create a new admin account named repair and only give them the password for that account. Alternately you could back up or clone your system, erase the hard drive and then reinstall OS X with one admin account that has no personal information.

  • Do I have to pay to upgrade my Macbook to Lion After paying to Upgrade my Mac?

Do I have to pay to upgrade my Macbook to Lion After paying to Upgrade my Mac?  Or does Apple allow you to pay once to upgrade both?

No, you buy it once and you can install it on both your macs.  Just sign in the App store on the second Mac with the same AppleID and you go to the Purchased tab.  You can install it from there.
If you make a copy of the installer the first time you download it then you can use that without having to download 4Gigs again.  The last step of the install process deletes this download so copy before installing.

  • Is it time to upgrade my Macbook's RAM?

    I have a Macbook 2nd generation (2 GHz, 1 GB memory).
When I open Photoshop CS2 or Illustrator CS2, it tells me that my memory is running low.
Also when I have several programs open, such as iTunes, Safari, and iChat, they seem to run slower.
ALSO I've discovered the Activity Monitor and been watching it...when I have Illustrator and a few other programs open, it says I only have 17.31 MB of free memory left. Also it may state 66063/4749 (for example) for Pages ins/outs.
In conclusion, does this mean it's time to upgrade my Macbook's memory? I've had this laptop for almost 3 years now and it's definitely held up way better than my previous HP laptop.
If I need to upgrade the RAM, how much does Apple charge for installing it themselves? I don't think I'm confident enough to install it myself.
Any thoughts would be very appreciated. Thanks!

You can install the memory yourself, you just need a size 0 philips screwdriver (avail in any hardware store or radio shack). Memory is cheap, I would go to 3 or 4g (I think your model can only address 3g). See http://eshop.macsales.com/MyOWC/Models.cfm?stype=Memory&0133 and http://eshop.macsales.com/Reviews/Framework.cfm?page=/Tips/macbookcore23gb/macbo okcore23gb.html

  • I want to upgrade my MacBook pro ram

I want to upgrade my MacBook pro 17'' ram. I have 2X2 GB 1066 MHz and I want to go to 2X4GB but I can't find any with 1066 MHz I found only 1333 MHz. Will it work on my MacBook pro late 2009 unibody 3,06 Ghz Core 2 Duo

do not use anything other than the exact specs.
It MAY work with the 1333MHz (the 1333 will be downclocked) but you will have problems VERY probably.
You have to replace the 2X2 with 2X4.
Buy the best there is: Crucial, OWC: the price is very low. And yes the right spec is for sale everywhere.
Find a respectable internet seller in your area, and buy it: but research the Crucial and/or OWC sites for the exact specification, they have configurators where you put in your computer model.
Replacing is easy, you have to have the right screwdriver, there are 3 screws that are longer, remember where they are.

    Hi CMCSK and thanks.
Maybe it's because of the SMC reset I've done.
My computer wasn't responding to the power button when pressed and used to shut down unexpectedly so I did the SMC reset as per the procedure hereafter.

So according to you, the battery seems to work properly and doesn't need to be replaced.
Don't know if it's important but the figures I gave where the one with magsafe connected.
In fact for the time beeing I only use my computer with magsafe plugged.

  • I just purchased a IMac Power PC G4 which has the Tiger 10.4.11 OS. I would like to upgrade to Lion OS. How can I upgrade the OS?

I just purchased a Power Mac PC G4. The system has OS Tiger 10.4.11. I would like to upgrade it to Lion.
    How can I do It?
    Thank You
    Hubert

PPC (PowerPC) is the processor architecture of all G3, G4 and G5 Power Mac computers.
PPC Macs cannot run any OS greater than Leopard, 10.5.8 because after that, Apple quit developing for PPC processors and limited support for the Intel processor line only.
As for upgrade to Leopard, Yes, if your machine meets the minimum requirements of 867 MHz or faster processor, 512 MB or greater of RAM and has a DVD reader it can have Leopard installed.
To install Leopard, one must first purchase a RETAIL (black with X on it) disc.
After install of 10.5, 10.5.1,10.5.4 or 10.5.6 retail version, free updates to 10.5.8 are available from Apple.
    Check eBay for discs:
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=mac+os+x+leopard+retail+10.5
If your machine is slower than 867 MHz, Google "Unsupported Leopard Installation".
Tiger is lthe best choice for slower PPC Macs.

  • Can't upgrade to 10.10. How do I upgrade to 10.9 at least? I'm on 10.6.8 now.

I'm currently on 10.6.8. I tried upgrading to 10.10 today and I get a pop up window saying it cannot be installed on this computer. How can I upgrade to 10.9 now? I can't find a download link for it.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, it can't be upgraded any further.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004. If you upgrade the OS, back up the computer first.
Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and Yosemite all have the same system requirements.

  • Can I upgrade my MacBook Pro RAM to 16Gb eventhough Apple advises 8GB max upgrade? Will it damage my computer if I do upgrade to 16Gb?

    Hello All MacPro users,
I have a Macbook pro 2011 15" and since I am into composing music I use Logic Pro and Native Instruments which require quite some RAM accessing & loading complex samples and effects. I was wondering if I can upgrade the ram to 16gb or even more eventhough Apple indicates 8gb as max RAM upgrade. I read some contadictory information. some say that Macbook pro will support 16gb. What if I upgrade will it damage my system?
    Appreciating your supports

as Kappy says " you can "
have a look at this pic - my 2011 Macbook Pro with 16GB.....doing the upgrade yourself if you're technically capable will not damage it.

  • I want to upgrade my Macbook's RAM memory. Help!

I have a Macbook 6,1 from Late 2009. When I check on the system information it says it has RAM memories with 1067MHz of speed, but in stores I can only find 1066MHz. Is it the same? Will it work?

Not all brands are compatible. That's why I told you to buy memory at OWC or Crucial > http://www.macsales.com Crucial sells cheaper memory > http://www.crucial.com

  • When upgrade 2004.2B to 2007B,how can I upgrade the MS-sql2000? ....

we are about to upgrade our 2004.2B to 2007,and come to  the problem "how can we upgarde the ms-sql2000 to sql2005?"
we bought the sql2000 together whit the sap business one 7.1 suit (Mrcorsoft call it ISV), my question are:
    1.can I upgrade to sql2005 for free?
2.If it's not for free, whether I buy the new database soft(sql2005)  or pay the upgrade charge ?
    3.what sap will do?
    thanks
    regards,
    wren

    Hi Wren,
You can check to see if SQL 2000 was sold via SAP when you sold SBO 2004 to your customer. Check the SAP Portal
If SQL was part of the sale and the customer has paid their annual maintenance on SQL then they should be able to upgrade their SQL to 2005.
If the customer did not buy their SQL from SAP, they will need to pay for SQL. I suggest that you find out from your VAR what the current prices are (before increase in Jan 2010) and buy the licenses from SAP, they are cheaper provided the customer only uses SBO on their SQL server.
    Cheers

    Hi Chefjeegar
Yes that screwdriver kit has the #00 phillips screwdriver that you need to access the RAM and hard drive. You'll also need the Torx driver to change the hard drive. http://www.amazon.co.uk/LINDY-Computer-Technician-Precision-Torx/dp/B0000934GO/r ef=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1348072554&sr=1-1
For a good explanation about RAM look at the page on OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/
In the UK Amazon or eBay might be your best bet for cheap RAM but read the description and reviews carefully. For a little more expensive but with a better warranty is Crucial UK http://www.crucial.com/uk/
A good resource for working on your MacBook is ifixit.com http://www.ifixit.com/Device/MacBook_Core_2_Duo
Is your external hard drive formatted for Mac? To transfer your current hard drive I like the free application Carbon Copy Cloner. It makes a bootable copy of everything on your hard drive http://www.bombich.com/index.html Check that it's set up right by booting up from the external drive. Put the new drive in your MacBook, then format and partition the new drive. Then use Carbon Copy Cloner to transfer your OS back to the new drive.
Yes, you can put an SSD in the MacBook.

  • I want to upgrade my MacBook late 2009 Ram, any suggestions?

Hi, I've been wanting to upgrade my MacBook's RAM for a while now and I wanted to make sure what brand I should buy. I searched this up on amazon.com: PC2-6400 DDR2 800 MHz Type RAM. I then found this: Crucial 4GB Kit (2GBx2) DDR2 800MHz (PC2-6400) CL6 SODIMM 200-Pin Notebook
Memory Modules CT2KIT25664AC800. Is this the right kind of RAM I should Buy?

OWC is excellent, DataMem, and Crucial.  Links go directly to ram for your mac.  You can upgrade to as high as 8gb.

    Introduction
    "Cost-Benefit Analysis"
    Features
Boot Time: Is it affected by the upgrade?
    Applications
    Conclusion
    1. Introduction
Greetings, today I am going to discuss the positive and negatives aspects about the
upgrade that many are tempted to perform, before during and after the purchase of an Apple
Personal Computer i.e. MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac and so on.
I am going to use my first and recently bought MacBook Pro as a "guinea pig" today
by performing and reviewing the upgrade from 4GB of Random-Access Memory (RAM) to 8GB.
I hope you all enjoy it and that this review is useful to you as a guide to aid your decision
    to upgrade or not.
Well let's get started shall we?
    2. "Cost-Benefit Analysis"
We all know how expensive Apple Computers are for the vast majority of the population,
however I am sure if you are here you do appreciate, like me, the reasons why such cost,
but this is another discussion. Let me focus.
The first option we have right off the bat is to do the upgrade as we purchase the machine,
which is offered to you when you order online, through the phone or buy it directly from an
    Apple Store.
I did consider upgrading directly with Apple for the obvious reasons but unfortunately
I wasn't able to this time, the £160.00* upgrade price was a little too high for me, not overpriced,
just a little too high for me. (* or $200.00 USD)
So here is what I have done: I have acquired the part from a third part company which
offered the so called upgrade for £59.99. So I decided to give it a go, before you ask my
warranty will not be voided as RAM and any user replacable parts DO NOT void your
equipment warranty as stated by Apple®.
As you can see the specifications of the product match perfectly what is already inside
a MacBook Pro. But obviously still won't be as good as the 8GB from Apple.
Now to the benefits. rest assured that this upgrade will not be noticed by all of you, and
what I mean by that is: If you only use your Mac for browsing the web or office suites, you do
not need this upgrade, however if you do heavy video or image processing or anything that
requires that little bit extra, you will notice the difference in performance baring in mind that
this model of MacBook Pro has no dedicated graphics card therefore upgrading is a fantastic
way to avoid "paging" and I think for 60 bucks that is a bargain.
    3. Features
RAM is constantly used by the system, obviously, serving as temporary storage and
working space for the operating system and its applications.
You may or may not know that most computers use something called "virtual memory"
is a method that consists of a portion of the system's hard drive being set aside for use as
a paging file that extends ram capacity. I.e. 4GB of RAM + 1GB of Paging file gives a system
a total of 5GB of memory available. Obviously upgrading from 4GB to 8GB will enable you to
have more memory without "sacrificing" a part of your hard drive.
RAM is used in numerous others ways on a computer.
3.1 Boot Time: Is it affected by the upgrade?
    | To be updated soon. |
    3.2 Applications
         | To be updated soon. |
    4.0 Conclusion
    | To be updated soon. |

3.1 Boot Time: Is it affected by the upgrade?
I did not notice any differences, maybe some miliseconds more or less.
    3.2 Applications
Applications it's a hard one to speak about, it seems to me that the system is coping more easily with tasks that require that little extra. Video and Photo editing and so on.
    4.0 Conclusion
Is it worth it? The truth is for some people yes, for some definitely NOT. If you are looking for that little extra performance just to feel good about it, definitely do it! However if all you do is browse the web and the odd word processing and a few presentations a month, it may not be that beneficial for you. I believe that if you truly want some serious performance, look for the power processing first i.e. Get a 15'' or a 17''; even though they are a bit more expensive they are recommended for video editing and tasks that require high speed and performance.
In terms of where to buy it from, I found that buying from the third party company Crucial was no different than what would have been from Apple itself, it is EXACTLY the same memory, I compared them both side a side and all the specifications and manufacturers where the same on the 4GB and the 2GB unit.
              Few things though guys:
Please be sure to use a good quality Phillips #00 Screwdriver, you DO NOT want to damage those screws and you want to have ease on opening the machine.
    Please only install quality RAM.
Please discharge yourself of any static by wearing a Static Bracelet or touching a metal surface inside the computer.
Please be sure to turn OFF the computer "Shut Down", I repeat do NOT put it to sleep, SHUT IT DOWN.
Please be patient; do not rush things.
That's it for my adventure  Upgrading my MacBook Pro RAM, guys I hope you enjoyed, sorry about the delay and enjoy your 8GB MacBook Pro, I certainly will.
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
    Walter.
