I need runing windows on mac pro 13" I want to buy a need one ..2.4 or 2.8?
Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7. For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
with OS X.
3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows. The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Benchmarks of all of the above except Crossover can be found in Benchmarking Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox Against Boot Camp - The Mac Observer. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

As soon as video touches my Source or Program windows the Mac Pro (3,1) shuts down
Linc,
You keep showing up when I search for this problem so I hope you can help.
I'm having the same issue in Premiere and Media Encoder (but not After Effects). My Mac just restarts itself as soon as video is loaded. I can start Premiere and open a project and go through relinking media, but as soon as video touches my Source or Program windows the Mac Pro (3,1) shuts down.
I've fixed the problem temporarily two times. The first time I was troubleshooting what was wrong and wound up putting in my old video card and after that fixed the problem, I switched back to my GTX 680. I also did a driver update. After doing that I was ok for a few days so I figured it was a driver thing or maybe the card just needed to be reseated. Then when it started acting up again I figured something was going on.
So I started searching again and came across one of your posts that recommended removing CUDA. I did that and it worked perfectly for a week until about 20 minutes ago. Crashed in the middle of an edit and now each time I restart Premiere it crashes as soon as video touches my monitors.
I found this post because I specifically searched for "com.nvidia.web.NVDAResmanWeb(8.2.7)" from my Problem Report.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Darren

<Re-Titled By Host>Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the shortened log. Here's the full thing. By the way, where do you learn to read these things? Are there keywords like "error" that you just learn to look for or is it something for in depth?
Thanks,
Darren

Windows and Mac Pro w/ Apple RAID card
It happened i have a need to run Windows natively on Mac Pro with Apple RAID card installed.
I know there is no Windows driver for that card, but i had a hope to bypass RAID card via connecting of internal SATA drive directly to iPass(SSF-8087) connector of Mac Pro's motherboard and using of that drive for Windows.
So, i've connected SATA drive this way and it works fine with OS X.
But i can't even try it with Windows because Mac Pro doesn't boot up from Windows installation CD if Apple RAID card installed
Empty black text console is all that i've got after selecting of Windows installation CD in EFI boot menu.
I need a suggestion how to bypass my problem, or generally speaking, how to install Windows onto Mac Pro with Apple RAID card.I've tried that.
Installation and booting of WinXP passed OK if RAID card removed.
But i've got black screen again trying to boot WinXP after RAID card re-installed. -
Do I need a specific Mac Pro video card or will any do?
Hi, I had a quick question. I'm looking at purchasing a 2010 8-core Mac Pro and was wondering about the video card. Is there a specific video card needed for the Mac Pro or can I purchase just a typical ATI 5870 from ebay and install that? Is there really a difference between a PC graphic cards and a Mac graphics card?
Stick to the Apple cards. There is an important difference, and that is non-Apple cards do not work until the startup sequence is completed unless you use them on VGA. That means you cannot use any normal startup keyboard shortcuts unless the card is in VGA mode. This is because non-Apple cards do not have the Apple bootable ROM.
Apple sells the 5870 directly on their website. And, there's nothing wrong with the 5770 card that comes with the Mac Pro. Be sure you really need the performance of the 5870 before spending the extra money for it. -
Need advice about Mac Pro and Windows networking
I currently have 2 machines at work: One HP Windows PC (high configuration) and a PowerMac G5 2GHz dual. I'm basically close to purchasing a new Mac Pro to replace both machines but need some advice. I do the majority of design work on the Mac. However I need the Windows PC to also do some design work but mainly use it to connect into the windows network at work. Basically I need to be able to access the network drives (which are set up with Novell Netware, with IPX turned off), Novell GroupWise email system and connect to the internet through the LAN. Can I do this with a Mac Pro, with either Bootcamp or Parallels? Is there any sacrifice in terms of performance in using Bootcamp or Parallels? The end result I want is similar to what I am doing at the moment - at the moment I use a PC to network and the Mac to design, side by side with each other. What I want is to do this from one machine, not two. (I also need the PC side of things as I need to use some software that isn't available on the Mac, eg. bespoke databases that run on PC). Is it easy to network under Bootcamp/Parallels? What pitfalls are there that I need to be aware of?
When your running Windows via bootcamp, you are essentially Running windows on a PC architecture. You will have all the same capabilities that you have now.
When you use Parallels to run Windows, you are running Windows as a virtual machine running within the confines of the Mac OS. The advantage is that you can run multiple OS's at the same time, and easily share files and data between them. The disadvantage is that the OS running within Parallels has a slightly performance hit, meaning you are not running as fast as the bootcamp version, but the performance hit is very slight. The only place that Parallels is lacking at the moment is in support of 3D or accelerated graphics. That is Parallels currently cannot make use of a graphics card 3D capabilities or advance GPU options. Parallels has stated their intent is to provide better graphic card support in the near future.
With all this in mind, I don;t see any reason why you cannot use Parallels for your Windows networking needs, and the Mac for your design needs, all at the same time. You will need of course to ensure you have enough RAM to support both OS's if you intend to run them at the same time.

Trying to dual boot Windows 7, Mac Pro 3 (2008) doesn't recognize USB boot drive
My system has no optical drive either. I've managed to set up the boot drive in VMWare fusion, and I've confirmed that the boot drive is correctly formatted, because it shows up on my MBP. I've tried blessing this hard drive, I've tried boot camping my way in, but the Mac Pro 2008 model seems adamant about only going via disk. Any super user commands to get my usb thumb drive recognized at option-restart time?

UPDATE: Last night, I installed Windows 7 next to Yosemite on my MBP. Copied the Windows partion to my external, and then tried to copy that partition on the external to my MP. No success, probably because MBP and MP have different drivers?
You will need to use Winclone to move images from one Mac to a different Mac if there are any hardware differences. It is a commercial tool.
Please see https://twocanoes.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/202814148-Migrating-a-Boot-Camp- Partition-with-Winclone-4
It requires a Sysprep on the source first to remove any HW-specific parts and make it a proper image to move it to a different HW platform. Once you have this migrated, you will need to reactivate Windows and install the appropriate Windows drivers which will support your MP-specific HW. -
Windows on Mac Pro will not shut down
Hi I recently had the MAC Pro the one with 4G RAM, I installed Windows XP on it as well, seems everything is running Ok except that every time when I shut down Windows, it just hang there and I have to press the power button to force it to shut down. Does anyone have any idea why this happen? Anything I need to check? Do I need to reinstall it? Thanks!
Hi, sorry I should have been more specific. The version of the Windows installed is fairly new. If the windows just boot up and then I shut it down, it will shut down right away. But if I run some program like MSN or browse internet for a while then when I try to shut it down, after I click Start->Turn Off computer then I click any of the 3 options (Stand By, Turn off,Restart) it just do not respond, but at the sametime the windows is not frozen, I can still run other program which seems really odd. So I have to manually press the power button to shut it down. I might need to reinstall Windows.

What do I need for my MAC PRO to connect to my wirelessrouter in my home
I have a Mac Pro 3.1 that i got from my old job.
I now want to use it for my main computer and internet access.
I have a PC that has my main modem and router in another part of house.
I want to use the MAC Pro for my other computer - but connect to router wirelessly.
Doesn't seem to be AIRPORT CARD installed in my MAC. Is that what I need to connect to the wireless router hooked up to my other computer?
Help! If that is what I need I can get it in NYC tomorrow - but I want to be sure I'm getting what is needed to allow my MaC to recognize the wireless router in other room...
Thanks. The airport wireless card should look like this:

Since you're going to the apple store, have them install it, as it's not the easiest thing to do. -
5 hours after reading here: (so much information that says "yes" "maybe" "no".....)
I want and have to change my actual MacPro (late 2007) to a newer one, because without my business is over.
The newest one (end 2013) is not possible, because my other hardware is too old for that one.
(still need Firewire and Rosetta)
So I decided to buy an older "classicle" MacPro to put my 3 or 4 pieces of 2TB HDD in...
...... But I still need Rosetta, -> OS 10.6
My question is:
Can I boot a mac 6,1 (mid 2012) with a Harddisk with 10.6, I take out of my old machine?
yes? anything to be aware or to update? (answeres here say mostly yes, sometimes, never ...)
For sure I am interested in the latest model..... but will it work?
If not: I will buy a mac 5,1 (mid 2010).
Anything to be aware or to update, if I pull in my HD with 10.6 out of the old model from late 2007?
I don't want to downgrade to SL !!!!!!!
I just want the Possibility to boot internal from the original OS on the first drive and from 10.6 on a second drive !!)

Mac OS X versions (builds) for computers
For example the Mac Pro 2010 CAN run 10.6.4 or later BUT--
--- the last "Full Retail" 10.6 DVD conatins 10.6.3, which will not boot. You need a different Mac of just the right age to Install on, [starting from a Full Retail DVD, not a DVD from a different model] update to 10.6.8, then swap the drive over.
The assertion has been made that the 2012 model (which runs 5,1 firmware) is indistinguishable from the 2010 model (which runs 5,1 firmware) as far as Hardware and therefore as far as what Mac OS X it can run. EveryMac.com agrees that this model will run 10.6.4. -
What is needed in a Mac Pro to start developing APPs?
I am looking for information on what Mac Pro (processor speed, memory, and storage capacity) is needed to start developing APPs. In addition, I would like my Mac Pro be viable for the next three years as I learn how to use the system to build APPs and learn basic applications to build APPs as I anticipating changes in the iOS system and programs like Mountain Lion that could use more memory and storage capacity. I am beginning this journey and like to know what system would best fit my needs as Apple continues to progress in their technologies. What should I get in a Mac Pro with 8GB or 16GB, i5 or i7 processor, 256GB or 512GB storage, and 13 in. 2.8GHz or 15 in. 2.5 GHz?
Thank YouYou could buy a new MacBook Air every two years and still come out ahead of what a base Mac Pro costs.
A Mac Pro is not going to go out of style in 4 years.
laptops or their parts are not upgradeable and do tend to fail a bit more. And some of those systems limit you to 16GB RAM but they do have (slower) M.2 SSDs (400 or 700MB/sec vs 1200-1400MB/sec) SSD blades.
If you want to run lots of code and VMs then maybe by accident you are in the right place

If I use Bootcamp to install a 64 bit version of windows xp pro on a Mac will that allow windows to make full use of the ram installed?
I understand that 32 bit versions of win xp only allow access to 4 gigs or so of ram?
I take it that the processors on a Mac Pro are 64 bit?
Thanks for any advice.Outside of Windows 64-bit drivers, and the level of support now in the latest BootCamp, I had Vista 64-bit for a few months. Some software is not yet 64-bit so I am holding back for now (Symantec, drivers, even Microsoft OneCare).
You shouldn't have any trouble as far as accessing RAM with XP Pro 64-bit. -

Need to update Mac Pro drivers without graphics card.....
I have a 1.1 Mac Pro. The ATI Radeon 2600 graphics card that came with it is completely broken. I am trying to replace it with a ATI Radeon HD5770 which should be compatible, however as I have never really updated my OS (unfortunately I cant remember which OS it has on it at the moment, it's the one that came with it) I don't think I have the neccessary drivers. Any ideas of how I can update the drivers without haveing to buy another graphics card? If it's any help I also have a Macbook Pro. Thanks in advance.
5770 cards require one 6-pin Aux power cable from the motherboard to the card. Aftermarket cards do not always include it, but it MUST be connected.
That is a PC-BIOS card flashed with Apple Firmware. In general, such cards do NOT show the Boot Screens or any diagnostic screens. The first screen you see will be the login screen, or if you auto-login, the desktop.
The seller says It will show the Boot Screens ONLY if you connect an Analog VGA display (with adapter) to the lower DVI-I port.
Drivers for accelerated operation of this card are included with custom 10.6.4 shipped with certain Mac Pros, and in standard 10.6.5 and later. All appropriate Drivers are already included in Mac OS X -- there is no need to install them later, and no way to do so since they will not work in older versions.
Official information lists the Mac OS X that shipped originally with your Mac Pro 1,1 as 10.4.7, but it may have been as late as 10.5. These are not likely to work with that card. You would probably need to purchase a 10.6 DVD from the Apple online store, about US$30.
Most Users who are not developers would be better served with a genuine Apple card, which would show a picture from power-on. But it costs close to US$250.
