I got a Model Number: A1181, My hard drive burned out. I bouhgt a new hard drive Wd Blue Scorpio 500 GB. Any ideas what do i have to do?

Well, let's hope that nothing was jiggled out of place when you were installing the new hard drive. Your optical drive may just be out of alignment or the disc you have is "dirty." Get a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol, then clean the disc as thoroughly as you can starting from the center and working outward in a concentric circlular motion. See if that helps. In particular clean the inner portion well.
If this does not help, then you have a problem. You have opened the computer yourself. That action voids all support from Apple. If you take the computer in for service the store may refuse to service the computer. This is not related to your now expired warranty.

  • Mac OS X Lion THUMB USB

    Hello.
I want to buy the Mac OS X Lion Thumb USB, from the Apple Store.
Here's a silly question I would like to be answered: what comes with the Thumb USB? Apple Stickers? Printed information?
Does it come properly packaged? Since I'm from Portugal, ir requires a amount of time to arrive... just wondering if it will come in a box...
    Thank you in advance.

Thanks for the quick answer... but...
What else comes in the box? (Just out of curiosity, please?)
    Thank you very much!

  • Mac Pro not Detecting Bootable USB Drive to Install Snow Leopard 10.6

    Hi
I have to Mac Pro 2 x 2.8 GHz Intel Xeon. I have been running Leopard on them. I wish to install snow leopard, so i took out my USB HDD where I have made a Bootable Partition with snow leopard. I have used this in the past on all my machines to install snow leopard. Now when I try to install Snow Leopard from this on my mac pro, it does not detect in the "Option Boot" start up menu, it only shows my leopard disk. If I got to start up disk in system preference, then it shows my Snow Leopard disk, but when i select that as start up, it still boots to my Leopard..
Since I am doing a fresh Install , I have another HDD installed, formatted for snow leopard. When I launch snow leopard installer from Leopard and select install in the new drive, it does some installation , but when restarting  it goes to my leopard again.
This is the case on both the Mac Pro;s, but not on my laptops, I tried on my air and my macbook pro, and my friends mac book pro, it instantly boots up to the usb drive with snow leopard.
So is there anything im missing ? Or is there something wrong with my Mac Pro's?
I dont have the snow leopard DVD, else I would have tried that too..
    Please advice asap!!
    Thanks
    Sa1

    Hey
    Thanks for the reply!
I have two USB HDD, with the copy from snow leopard dvd, and both are formatted in GUID, they work fine on my laptops and even the old mac mini, just not working on two identical Mac Pros.. Its very strange, as it keeps booting to leopard, and if I remove leopard Disk, and just put the new one and connect the USB dive, its shows a folder with a "?" mark sign!
And the USB just works fine after its booted to leopard, it even starts installing snow leopard to the disk i assign, but it does not complete the installation as it boots to main leopard drive..
I have tried to reset PRAM on both machine, I have changed usb slot..
I dont know what to do!

  • Why wont my Mac pro start if a usb drive is connected?

....even if an empty little mac os journelled 250mb flash drive is inserted on startup, osx kinda waits until i pull it out to move off the white screen and give me the desktop...
its not a big problem because as soon as i disconnect any usb device it gets going but i was just wondering if anyone knew why it does it and if it could possibly highlight any bigger issues?
    thanks,
    steve

I am having the same problem. I got a 1.5TB Seagate FreeAgent USB hard drive. It was brand new but formatted Fat Dos. I used disk utility to partition the drive (only way it would format it) to the choice for GUID or something that said it would work with intel mac. I got the drive working fine showing up in finder etc. I rebooted the computer and it hung on a gray screen and eventually a folder with a question mark came up flashing. If I hit the power button on the Mac pro and disconnect the usb drive it boots fine. If I restart the computer without the drive attached it boots fine. If the drive is connected it will not reboot. Does the Mac think that the USB drive is the boot drive? How would this happen and how would I correct it? I need to use this drive as a backup drive for Time Machine as my time capsule is full. Please help

  • How can I re-install lion via usb drive on my new mba(mid-2011)?

how can I re-install lion via usb drive on my new mba(mid-2011)?
I just removed all data from main hd, and my network is not good enough to be able to download the os via recovery hd re-installing way.
in other words, is there a bootable [mac os x lion dmg] for my mba that I can download?

If you are looking for a download link for OS X Lion, I do not know of one. However if you really need the operating system you can buy a USB drive with OS X Lion on it, ready to boot. I think they're $69 at Apple's store. What I would do is contact AppleCare via the Express Lane or just call them and tell them your situation and then they will definantly have an answer for you to point you in the right direction.
    Good luck!

Restore from the backup you had prior to installing Mavericks.
However, the upgrade should not have altered your partition scheme. Did your erase and format the drive prior to upgrading?

  • HT1948 USB drive with install image is showing in Startup Manager on a Mac Pro, but wont boot. Showing circle with cross strip, and shut down automatically. USB device are made and work on two different MacBook Pro, but used on Mac Pro. Any help?

USB drive with install image is showing in Startup Manager on a Mac Pro, but wont boot. Showing circle with cross strip, and shut down automatically. USB device are made and work on two different MacBook Pro, but used on Mac Pro. Any help?

OS X installers have always been fairly specific, hardware-wise. I haven't read anything reflecting that situation with the Recovery HD, so it may be that the Recovery HD created for the MacBook Pro does not have the necessary drivers for the Mac Pro. Obviously, nothing definitive here, but a possibility.

  • Mac Mini is disconnecting all usb drives whenever any new USB device is plugged in.

I have 10.6.7 on a Mac Mini 2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of ram and a 60 gig hard drive.
It seems that every time I plug or unplug any USB device, it disconnects all the connected USB drives.  This seems to be something new, but I have not really often used the other USB ports either.  It is very frustrating, as you can imagine.  If I plug one drive in, and then plug another drive in, plugging the second drive it often disconnects the first one.
But it is not just drives.  I can have only one drive plugged in, and unplug and replug the keyboard, and the USB drive will disconnect.  Then I will get message about how I did not safely disconnect the drive.
    Any help would be great.

Yes.  One is a mini Toshiba USB drive with no other options for power.  But even unplugging an iPhone USB cord with NO iPhone attached to it will cause the drive to drop off.  The second USB drive I plugged in today had the same issues.  Basically I have to unmount a drive, then plug in a second device, then remount the drive using disk utility.  Very painful.

  • My new mac mini does not see usb drives, but in hardware info the usb is visible

my new mac mini does not see usb drives, but in hardware info the usb is visible
i'tried several usb flash drives even brand new ones, they are visible onder hardware info but they are not on the desktop nor in the finder.
what is wrong and doe anyone has a solution ?

It does not show up in disk utility, its only visible through systeminformation.
When you plug in the USB flash drive and then refresh systeminformation it becomes visible.
To remove it I shut down the computer because I cannot eject the USB device anywhere.
After starting up again when I have removed the flash drive it has gone from the systeminfo USB list.
By the way my USB mouse and keyboard are working fine, I also changed ports of these and they still keep on working so I don't think the USB ports are defect.
I guess it some kind software problem, and because I'm new to Apple I do not know much about it how to solve this.

  • Lion recovery usb reset?

I recently made my 8gb lacie USB into a lion recovery USB, and I now need to use it as a normal USB again but it is not read when I plug it in. Does anyone if or how I could reformat or reset this?
    Thanks Alfie

Thank you both (baltwo and Ho Lee MACkeral) for the helpful tips.  Unfortunately even after confirming that the USB was partitioned as a GUID partition and rebuilding a new Recovery USB I'm still unable to boot into recovery mode.  I'm currently reinstalling SL and will patch, then re-download my Lion.  From there I should be able to reinstall my image from my Time Machine backup.  Lengthy process, but I'm not really sure what else to do at this point.  Sigh.
Once I have everything back to normal I'll continue working on getting Windows 7 into bootcamp.

  • 2012 Mac Pro / Mountain Lion won't boot with ATI 5770

2012 12 Core mac pro. I've got 2 GPUs installed:
    - Quadro 4000 for mac
    - ATI 5770
The Quadro is so loud and annoying that I'd like to unplug it for general use. Then plug it in for DaVinci or Premiere use.
Problem is when I unplug (power) from the Quadro and reboot, system gives me the Apple logo and then automatically restarts. Over and over. This is with Mountain Lion.
I tried booting to a drive with 10.6 and it booted up fine.
I keep searching for driver updates or something but everywhere says it's included in OSX?
Is this problem happening because there are 2 GPUs installed? Even though one is unplugged? Like PCI lane conflict or something?
    Alex

I think you will need to remove it entirely, or plug the power back in. It does not seem to allow your Mac to work with a Bus connection, but no aux power.

  • EA4500 Mac OS X Lion and USB storage

Hello everybody, I have EA4500 and usb had drive attached to router.
Ok, I can acces USB storage through FTP on my Mac OS X, I can acces it through smb in Windows 7 (running on the same macbook in vmware) but i can't acces it through smb directly from mac os (finder).
I tried finder-->Go-->connect to server and entered smb://192.168.111.1/Data or smb://admin:[email protected]/Data anyway i had error "The share does not exist on the server. Please check the share name, and then try again."
Also, I installed XBMC for MAC and XBMC can acces to storage by smb.
    Where I am wrong?
PS. Drive formatted as HFS+ MBP early 2011 (OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion GM doesnt matter dont working in both). Connected to EA4500 by ethernet (wifi connection dont work too)

Hi please check on this link:http://forums.buffalotech.com/t5/Storage/Unable-to-access-network-drive-with-OS-X-10-7-Lion/td-p/955..., this may help the problem that you are having right now.

  • Will a Mountain Lion install USB work with putting Mac OS on a brand new hard drive?

My MacBook Pro's hard drive has crapped out and I'm planning on purchasing a new hard drive for it.  However, this new hard drive will be completely clean and no remnants of Mac OS will be on it when I receive it.  But before my hard drains crapped out, I made a Mountain Lion install USB like the one made here: http://osxdaily.com/2012/02/17/make-bootable-os-x-10-8-mountain-lion-usb-install -drive/ .  If I install this new hard drive into my MacBook Pro, turn the computer on, and hold down the Option key, will I then be able to install Mac OS with this USB drive?  If not, please explain the steps that I need to take in order to successfully install Mac OS onto a brand new hard drive.
P.S. I do not have the install disc from when I bought my computer.

You can use the USB drive you created previously to install OS X in your new hard disk. Also, you can use Internet Recovery, if you want to > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
After installing the hard disk and starting from the USB drive, follow the steps to reinstall OS X. If there isn't any partition on the hard disk, close the installer and open Disk Utility.
Then, choose the hard disk at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk. After erasing the disk, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X
