I NOT download mail on laptop (but leave it for dl to my desktop); how can I get the lapt to recog what it already in its inbox and not add new copies each time

I use a small Acer laptop on trips. I read email on it, but leave the mail on the server (POP acct at my university) for download at home onto my desktop. My problem is that the laptop does not recognize what it has already copied to my inbox, and so adds a new copy of all mail (that is on server) each time I "get" my mail. Is there some way that I can get it to only "get" what mail it does not already have ?

try disabling email scanning for incoming mail.
One of the last things that occurs is the mail server and Thunderbird sign off on "where we are up to" and Thunderbird stores this state information in the popstate.dat file in your profile (there is one in each POP mail account folder). If the anti virus, or you for that matter, end the conversation a few seconds early that hand off does not occur and the popstate is not stored.

I understand you are having issues with playback of a purchased song. If iTunes in the Cloud is available in your country, it might be best to delete the song from your computer, then re-download from your purchase history.
To delete a song the following Knowledge Base article offers how to delete from your iOS device:

Before you delete, find out if you'll be able to download the song you deleted again (it depends on where you live). To delete a song:
Launch iTunes.
From the Library pop-up menu, choose Music.
Click Songs in the navigation bar.
Click the song you want to delete.
Press the Delete key on your keyboard.
In iTunes 11, the album cover art will remain visible, but a cloud icon will appear on it to allow you to download the item again (in countries that support this).
Note: If you didn't purchase a song from the iTunes Store, you won't be able to download it again for free from iTunes in the Cloud. You might want to back it up somewhere on your computer.
Afterwards, re-download the purchases from your purchase history:

It's probably happing because photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days (even though your last 1000 photos will remain on your devices until deleted). When you enabled photo stream on your PC you would have only received photos from the last 30 days.
To transfer older photos to your computer, create a shared photo stream that contains them and invite yourself as a subscriber (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99).

I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the entry, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.
(Not entirely sure what happens after you click that link, but fingers crossed it should be relatively straightforward.)

Try a reset ..
Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

How can I get Itunes 7 to burn to my external La Cie burner, and not my internal Pioneer burner, which is behaving unreliably?

Is there a way to reset the default CD burner? I have an internal pioneer burner the DVR105, and an external firewire La Cie burner. The La Cie burner is much newer and will burn properly. However, itunes 7 is trying to burn to the internal DVR105 only, and it keeps giving me errors.
How can I get Itunes to burn to the healthy la Cie? I know my Toast software recognizes it...I have burned DVDs to the La Cie many times before in Toast. Itunes offers me no option to select which burner to use, unlike Toast. My OS is Panther.

Sorry, Itunes is not giving me that dialog. Lemme tell you, it did give me a related dialog earlier today when my La Cie was not connected. Apparently it defaulted back to the Pioneer at that time. I have since reconnected the La Cie, and the system is seeing it, however Itunes won't offer me the option to burn to the La Cie. It just burns to the Pioneer, then gives me an error saying it can't burn the CD.

If you have emmptied the iPhoto trash then you're going to need a file recovery application like File Salvage

Normally, I know iTunes is supposed to give you the option of creating an iPod selection playlist, so you can choose which songs you want to put from your library onto your iPod. However, iTunes won't currently give me that option. It simply gives me an error message saying there is not enough free space to sync my iPod. I had the similar problem last night and found a solution (although it takes more than a few clicks). Highlight all the album tracks in itunes on the pc and right click "get info". Check the artwork box in this window. I found that the now playing art was showing up in the itunes window, but on songs that were missing artwork showed nothing in the get info box. When I replaced the artwork by using the artwork command, or manually adding it into the "get info" window. It was annoying but my iphone updated every album.

Okay, changed my apple ID in itunes. When I try to download using the ipod directly to download a song it comes up with my old ID. How can I have it default to my new ID. I've already sync'd it and that didn't do it. Need help please.
