I/O device error when trying to backup system image on my K330B running Windows 7 Home Premium

I set up my Idea Centre K330B to schedule complete system backups to an external HDD once a week.  This worked fine for three months, then about a month ago a scheduled backup failed due to "device error encountered with either the source or the destination (0x8078012D)".  It also gave "Additional information: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.  (0x8007045D)"
I ran chkdsk/r on both the backup drive ( E: ) and the system drive ( C: ) and no problems were found.  The backup drive has plenty of available space.  I tried the backup to a freshly NTFS-formated external drive.  I tried the backup with my BitDefender 2012 Anti-virus disabled. I tried the backup after booting in safe mode.  Nothing works.
If I specify to backup only C: and not the reserved partition the backup completes with no problems.
I get the same error condition whether I perform the backup with Windows or the Lenovo backup software.
Is it possible I have a disk corruption on the reserve partition that is not found and repaired by the chkdsk/r C: operation?
I'm thinking about saving all important user files and rebooting to the factory settings, but if the reserver partition is damaged I might end up with a dead 4-month-old PC.
I would greatly appreciate any help or advice as to how to get these backups going again.

I just tried running the Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test both in normal mode and in safe mode.  Both times it indicated a failed read test on the HDD. The last two tests also failed.  I forget what those tests were called.
I am really beginning to think I have a bad HDD and the problem just happens to be in the reserved partition where my factory system software resides.

  • I/O device error when trying to backup system image (any advice? please!)

Having posted this once with absolutely no response, I'll try again.
When trying to backup my K330B system image, I get "device error encountered with either the source or the destination (0x8078012D)" and "Additional information: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.  (0x8007045D)"  It recommends chkdsk/r on both the source and destination devices.  I did this for C: and for the external drive I'm backing up to.  No problems are found.
I also found the Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test on the support site.  It does not list K330B as one of the devices it is designed for, but I tried it anyway.  It reported an error on the read test and two other tests that it performed when directed to test all partitions on the HDD.
Has anyone else had problems backup up the entire system image but no problems backing up just the C: partition?

Backing up system image using what program or component?
What brand hard drives? Most manufacturers have test utilities
for their drives, sometimes better at finding errors.
As HDQT you tried found some errors, you should test drives
more thoroughly as a first step.

I keep getting this error when trying to backup time capsule with time machine. The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data-1/Dan’s iMac.sparsebundle” is already in use.

Make sure that no other Macs are backing up at the time.
Pull the power cable from the back of the Time Capsule
    Count to ten
Plug the power cable back into the back of the Tme Capsule
Wait a few minutes, then try a backup again.

  • I/o device error when trying to use windows 7 backup to an external hard drive

I have a Windows 7 operating system.  The computer was running very slowly so I used the systems diagnostics at startup and received short DST failed with a failure id of 6C2NXD-53Q713-XD002J-60RL03 for the hard disk test,  the start up test, the
run-in test.  Each test showed memory test passed and smart check passed.  In researching the error it states that my hard drive is failing or perhaps some program is causing the error.  I tried removing some programs I thought may be the issue.
     Didn't work.
I have tried using the Windows 7 backup but the backup reached about 67% then states backup not completed i/o device error.  I am trying to back up my files to a brand new Toshiba USB 3.0 & 2.0 external hard drive with 1.0 TB/To.
I have gone to start then computer and it shows the device.  It also shows some files on it.  The backup fails when it it trying to do a system image as far as I can tell by reading the progress details.  The Toshiba device says that it is
working fine and is already formatted to NTFS.
What else should I check or do?  My computer is also now popping up with a window telling me a backup is needed before the hard drive fails.  It pops up with this message at the same time I am trying to do the backup (the backup is already processing).
    Thank  you

    Hi,
Have you performed a disk check on your PC? More details, please check here:
How to Run Disk Check in Windows 7
Regarding the i/o device error, have you received any specific error IDs like
    0x8007045D?
In addition, please also take a verify to see if the external disk is Advanced Format Disks(Some types may not compatible with Windows 7):
For example Run fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo f:
     to check the
    bytes per physical sector
    of the external disk drive.
    More information, please see:
An update that improves the compatibility of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 with Advanced Format Disks is available
    Hope this may help,
    Best regards

  • Getting I/O Device error when trying to build?

    Hi...
I'm pretty much a horrible noob when it comes to stuff like this. I'm using Ant to build an EAR for deployment to an environment. I've been doing it for a while, totally fine... but when I tried to do it today - I'm getting the following error:
Problem creating war: the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error
Now, I have no idea what this means - Google isn't being a lot of help either. Is this a memory issue? Is it something corrupt in my local Javan environment?
It happens when I try to do the build via command line and through Eclipse.
The process is able to make it through the regular build portion fine - it just chokes on building the WAR.
    Anyone?

Grrr... checking out Event Viewer after this most
recent restart and I'm seeing a bunch of errors:
The driver detected a controller error on
    \Device\Harddisk0
    Eeep.
Sounds like it might have something to do with it,
    right? Yes.
There are a ton of those and then a ton more
    of these:
Logical drive 1, configured on Array Controller
[Embedded] returned a fatal error on a read/write
    request on the volume.
    Logical block address... &c...
Does this mean a drive has failed on the box? Or just
some controller associated with a drive?Don't know and couldn't say. Either way it's bad. Find an administrator and ask them. Hopefully you have one.

  • My HP Desktop HD BD07 comes up with an I/O device error when trying to initialise

I have an HP Desktop HD BD07 2TB harddrive which i use in conjunction with a media player with my tv to access my video files. After watching a movie, leaving and returning home an hour later the media player no longer registering my device. I plugged it into my laptop (HP G61) and found it was coming up as a USB device in devices but not in My Computer. I tried updating drivers, but they were up -to-date. Following the advice of another post here, I went into disc management where I found it, however it was not initialised. When i tried to initialise it to (GPT?GUID? not the root file one) it comes up with a I/O device error and wont initialise the harddrive. I have gathered this means it is corrupted? Can anyone help me - in laymens terms - to try recover this harddrive as it contains precious photos etc on it. Or has anyone encountered the same problem that got their harddrive readable again?
    TIA

  • Fatal error when trying to backup SharePoint server (Failed to set request to pause search application)

I have powershell script that is used to backup SharePoint server. It was working correctly until last week. I found this error message indicate that search application cannot be paused. I don't know what happen and what should I do to solve this issue.
Please help me find solution for this.

InvalidOperationException: Failed to set request to pause search application

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you got an error when you backup your SharePoint Server.
You can do the steps below, then check whether it works.
Look for any One-time timer job  for Backup/Restore and delete it (From Central Administration > Monitoring > Review Job Definitions)
Clear the timer cache following the below link:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/jamesway/archive/2011/05/23/sharepoint-2010-clearing-the-configuration-cache.aspx
Run the below command from the SharePoint Management Shell:
    $ssa = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication –Identity <SearchServiceApplicationName>
    Suspend-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -Identity $ssa
Once the above steps are completed successfully start the full farm backup from the Central Administration > Backup and Restore > Farm Backup
Once backup is completed run the below command to resume the SSA
    $ssa = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication –Identity <SearchServiceApplicationName>
    Resume-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication -Identity $ssa

  • Errors when trying to mosaic compressed images

I am trying to load georaster data into Oracle 11g 11.2.0.2. I was successful then doing this by using the following steps:-

    Check document:
1.10.2 DEFLATE Compression of GeoRaster Objects
DEFLATE compression compresses objects according to the Deflate Compressed Data Format Specification (Network Working Group RFC 1951), and it stores the compressed data in ZLIB format, as described in the ZLIB Compressed Data Format Specification (Network Working Group RFC 1950). The ZLIB header and checksum fields are included in the compressed GeoRaster object.
Although DEFLATE compression is supported for GeoRaster objects of any size, the total size (columnsPerBlock * rowsPerBlock * bandsPerBlock * cellDepth / 8) of each block of the GeoRaster object must not exceed 1 gigabyte (GB). For large GeoRaster objects, you can call the SDO_GEOR.changeFormatCopy procedure to block the GeoRaster object into blocks smaller than1 GB, and then compress the GeoRaster object; or you can perform the blocking and compression in the same call to the SDO_GEOR.changeFormatCopy procedure.
Because DEFLATE compression is lossless, compression quality does not apply, and is ignored if it is specified.
    compression
Specifies the compression type to be applied to the GeoRaster object. Must be one of the following values: JPEG-B, JPEG-F, DEFLATE, or NONE. (You can use NONE to decompress a compressed GeoRaster object.) If compression is not specified, the compression type of the source GeoRaster object is used. For more information about compression and decompression, see Section 1.10. Example: compression=DEFLATE

  • Error when trying to install the iSCSI target - Cannot find the Windows PowerShell data file 'ImportExportIscsiTargetConfiguration.psd1'

    Hi,
I'm just attempting to setup an iSCSI target on a freshly installed Windows 2012r2 box, but I get the following error when attempting to Create and iSCSI virtual disk via the wizard after a successful
installation of the iSCSI target role.
    The full error is:
Cannot find the Windows PowerShell data file 'ImportExportIscsiTargetConfiguration.psd1' in directory 'C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\IscsiTarget\en-GB\', or in any parent culture.
I tried to uninstall, then reinstall the role but no go.
The Server Locale and UI was all updated to en-GB but this folder does not appear to exist in this location. Rather, the folder I can see is:
    'C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\IscsiTarget\en-US\'
I'm going to attempt to copy the 'en-US' folder to 'en-GB' to see what happens, but I would like to know why this has occurred in the first place? Other roles have installed (such as AD DS AD CS and
IIS) on other machines with no issue.
    Many thanks
    Chris
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
The error "Cannot find the Windows PowerShell data file 'ImportExportIscsiTargetConfiguration.psd1'" occured, because the file 'ImportExportIscsiTargetConfiguration.psd1' can't be loaded under the folder en-GB with current culture.
I recommend you can copy this .psd1 file under  'C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules\IscsiTarget'. Essentially if PowerShell can’t find the specified data file for the current culture it will “fallback” to the top-level data
    file in this case.

If there is anything else regarding this issue, please feel free to post back.

  • No Bootable Device Error when trying to bootcamp!

Hey guys I have been trying to bootcamp on and off for the past month or so now. Anyway I downloaded a windows 7 x32 bit iso from Microsoft's website. I then used Burn to burn it to a disc by doing: Copy> Dragging the image in> Mount and then right clicking on the image on the desktop and clicking burn to disc. Not bootcamp itself worked fine, a bit slow, but i managed to make a 100gb partition. Now whenever I try to boot into windows, I get the dreadfull "No bootable device - insert a bootable device and press any key"
I know the .iso is valid because i succesfully made a Parallels V<M with it, but parallels is too slow for skyrim.
I think its also important to note that I have using an external optical drive, since my dad got gum in it XD.
Anyways help is VERY MUCH appreciated! If you need anymore info, just ask.

Okay so I found a similar tutorial, only a little more detailed. This can be found here: http://www.andrewsavory.com/blog/2011/2156
So I follow the instructions to a tee, but when I try to start the installation of the VM, I get a "Missing Operating System" Error.
    Anyways Heres what I did:
Went to terminal and typed this in:
    mkdir Virtual\ Machines
    /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmware-rawdiskCreator print /dev/disk0
    Then This:
    /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmware-rawdiskCreator create /dev/disk0 3 windows7 ide
SO I enter those right in terminal as is and hit enter. Then I search using spotlight and found two files:
    windows7-pt.vmdk and windows7.vmdk
So I follow the instructiopns again and I think I might be messing up at this step:
" You’ll then be taken to the Customize Settings screen, where you want to configure the ISO to boot from. Click on the CD/DVD (IDE) option [...]
And then select the location of your Windows 7 ISO:"
SO I choose my windows 7 x32 iso FIle and just close the window. Am I missing anything?

  • HT201625 Error when trying to backup iTunes to external drive

I have tried to consolidate/move songs to external drive through itunes/library/organize/consolidate. At first it looks like everything is copying over  but I get this "copying files failed. The file name was invalid or  too long." How does one correct this error?

You cannot do it.. Even if you copy it right now, when you like to restore it later.. file format will not supported and you'll get error.
