I/o Error Result -36 in Logic 7.2.3

Hi Guys - Forum newbie here and need a bit of help please
Working on a logic song that needs to be handed in for coursework but have the following error while trying to save the song and even bounce.
i/o Error result -36
The funny thing is that it does save. The ball spins for about 30 seconds then error pops up on screen. It however doesnt bounce and that will stop me from handing in the work
It is only with this song as i have opened a new song and saves/bounces no problem
I have updated firmware for M-Audio device, trashed logic preferences and all other elements suggested that I have found on forums but no luck. The i/o error -35 for symbols that should be not used does not apply here as I only have a single letter as my song name
Any help will be appreciated
kind regards

My lacie external harddrive had an issue with a specific file
omg.. a problem with a lacie drive?? I'm in shock..
Question, should there not maybe be a folder in the main forum page when
we can list the different general error's like -36 and inside of that let forums > members insert the different solutions as they happen. This way the member > can go staight there first. Just a thought
good idea. or if not at the forum, there could at least be a link or downloadable pdf or whatever at the logic support site that covers all of the error messages with accurate and useful descriptions of them all, and a list of possible real-life causes and fixes. that would save a lot of time wasted at this forum trying to get to the bottom of this stuff. I haven't looked at the logic support page for a while, maybe something like that is already there... wishful thinking..

  • I/O Error result code -36: Logic bug, or Mac OSX bug?

    Hello-
I encountered a problem in Logic Pro 8 today that severely damaged one of my audio files in my session. I was working in the sample editor, and I went to copy and paste an audio fragment. When I tried to paste the audio, this error came up:
    "I/O Error, result code = -36"
After that, the cursor turned into a black and white spinner, and the audio file that I was working with suddenly was altered in a way that somehow erased a portion of it in the song. I had to ability to undo, view the changes in the audio file, etc, etc. It was damaged irreversibly, and I had to end up re-recording that segment. Does anyone know why this happens, and is it a bug in Logic?
BTW, I have over 500 gigs free on the external drive that I am recording to, and nothing has changed, hardware-wise on my system in over 6 months... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like one of two things that I have seen with this error :
1.- your external hard drives' connection to the computer is not 100% stable (loose cable...dusty environment...)
2.- Your audio device, is ti FireWire too? Is it daisy chained to this external hard drive? Maybe the order of the daisy chaining needs to be looked at.

  • Buffer I/O error on device sdd1, logical block, HDD failure? [SOLVED]

    Hello!
I'm a bit puzzled here to be honest. Granted i'm not using linux as much as I used to (not after windows 7). I have archlinux running on my HTPC. Never had any issues before that was this severe, unless I upgraded and forgot to read news section. Booted the htpc today to be greeted by "Buffer I/O error on device sdd1, logical block" with a massive wall of text, a few seconds later "welcome to emergency mode."
*This is NOT hdd where the linux kernel is residing on. What logical purpose would it serve for the kernel/userspace to abort everything just because fsck fails or something? If this was indeed my linux partition I would fully understand.
Anyways, I used parted magic, ran fsck, smart. Sure enough fsck warned me about bad/missing superblock. Restored the superblock by using e2fsck. I had over 10 000 "incorrect size" chunks. Ran 2-3 SMART after that. fsck says okay, smart gives a 100% status report with no errors.
Oh yeah, I have turned off FSCK completly in my fstab, thinking about at least turning it on my bigger hdds
    Questions:
*Is SMART reliable? If it says it's alright, does that mean i'm safe? Would physical broken sectors turn up by SMART?
*I know SMART warns the user in windows 7 if hdd failure is imment. Is this possible within linux as well? Since i'm NOT using a GUI, is this possible to send through a terminal/email?
*Sometimes the HTPC have been forefully shut down (power breakage), could this be one of the causes of the I/O error?
As always, thank you for your support.

Sorry for the late reply guys. Been busy with my other hdd that decided to screw with me. e2fsck first complained about bad sectors, and wrong size. Now it says all clean. I've decided to remove this HDD from server and mark it "damaged".
Thank you again for your help

    1) Don't trust the 'SMART overall-health self-assessment test result', run the diagnostics (short, long, conveyance, offline). The short and conveyance tests are quick so start with them. If they both pass run the long test. The offline test is supposed to update SMART attributes, but it generally takes longer than the long test, so save it for last if at all. Usually when I see bad drives the short or long tests pick them up.
    2) Look into smartd.service.
greenfish wrote:What logical purpose would it serve for the kernel/userspace to abort everything just because fsck fails or something?
Systemd craps itself if an fs configured to mount during boot can't be mounted, even if the fs isn't necessary for the system to boot. Rot sure about how it handles fsck failures. This 'feature' can be disabled by putting nofail in the fstab options. I add it to every non-essential automounting fs.
Thank you for the useful information. I will save this post for future references.
Will deff look into smartd.service, especially when I have so much data running 24/7.
Will also update my fstab table with "nofail" like you suggested
    Thank You!

  • I/O error result code= -36 ???? Please help!!

Im running studio with apogee duet, just got the apple care (god bless it) superdrive replacement, now I get audio input output functioning realtime, but *** soon as I attempt to record the error pops up. I cant find anyone else with this problem, and apogee unfortunately was clueless. I find it strange that an I/O error is occurring when I pass audio in/out no problem. It blasts the error as soon as I press that quick key R.
I'm running ProTools8 in the meantime on a MBox and it feels so inadequate/fake/unprofessional/. Show me why it was a good thing apple bought out E-Magic fellas!!!
P.S. where do you guy get the definitions of these codes?

I have never experienced that error, but I Googled "I/O Error: Result Code=-36" and found this...
It really has nothing to do with Logic. It is a Mac OSX error being passed on
by Logic. It has to do with not being able to write to the drive. You can
get this error in Logic if your recording drive is too full, is too
fragmented, or the directory is messed up.
Some things you can do to solve the problem are: Make sure you are recording
to a drive other then the system drive, make sure you have plenty of free
space on the recording drive, repair permissions, defrag the recording
drive, or run a disk utility like Disk Warrior to check and repair directory
    issues.

  • I/O Error: Result Code=-36  HELP!!!

Anyone got any idea what this is about? The problem in a nutshell is as follows...
I'm running Logic 7.2.3 on a G5 (PowerPC version) with a dedicated, built in 250gig HD for audio. Over the last week I've suddenly become aware that everything I thought was being saved to this HD is impossible to access anymore and I get the above error code coming up each time.
However, anything recorded to this HD prior to the last week still opens fine with no issues at all.
Tell me I'm being stupid and have done something ridiculous, please!!! There's a whole lot of work down the drain if that's not the case.
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • I/O ERROR RESULT -36

Can anyone tell how to fix an error? I am using a simple drive 250GB hard drive to do my recording in logic express 8. LE 8 seems to allow me to record midi data, but won't allow me to record audio data. Each time I hit record in audio mode, the program freezes and an i/o error result -36 error pops up. Can someone give me a step by step way to resolve this in "LAYMENS" terms? Consider me a baby when it comes to understanding computer and its many technical terms.
NOTE: I also have my BCF 2000 control surface connected to my macbook osx, but I don't think this should have anything to do with it.

Technically, if your CPU meter is running high it's because your processor (CPU) is not up to the job of running all the plug-ins / Software Instruments / etc. that you're using. Make sure you disable any you're not actually using, select an Audio Track when playing back (doesn't have to have anything on it!), & Freeze or Bounce any Tracks that you can. These (and other) tricks will minimise the drain on the processor.
RAM is the other big issue. All this stuff needs lots of RAM. If you don't have the maximum you can get for your Mac, try to get as close as you can…

  • Can't burn dvd's!!!  error result code -8796 is freaking me out.

i've been trying to burn a Quicktime .mov file to dvd-r. i have a mac 10.5.8. I was able to do this before I got the internet with idvd3 or toast 7, now that I have the internet neither toast nor idvd work. After the project is done encoding, I keep receiving the message "cannnot record disc because of mac os error result code -8796". anyone have a similar problem or a guess as to what might be going on? thanks.

Hi, depends on wheter it was really -8796 or -8976, easy to transpose, but the 1st is a Font error, the second which makes much more sense is a Quicktime error, & my guess on that would be some Disk or Cache corruption.
are you saying I should open Font Book, validate the fonts and look for duplicates? I've never messed with the fonts, never (knowingly) installed any 3rd party fonts..
It won't hurt anything to do it, & some apps like MS & Adobe apps will install some fonts that may not be great for Macs.
i'm a newbie and don't really understand why fonts would affect dvd burning but i'm willing to try anything (within reason) cheers...
Hey, don't worry about that, I'm not a n00b & I couldn't understand it either... though I do have a knack for being able to conceive the impossible as probable, & sorta warp my brain into a feasible scenario... LOL on me!
I really think OCG fell upon, (well OK, used logic), to come up with perhaps the real source of the problem & maybe the real error code!?
At this point I think you should get Applejack...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19596
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15667
After installing, Reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Delete old Log files.
At least if it doesn't fix it, it'll eliminate a few questions.
Feel free to holler if that presents any questions.

  • "Error Result code = -43" AND "Audio file not found"

In Garageband I was trying to  click Join, but kept getting "Error Result code = -43"
    What does this mean?
Also, I thought saving the file and restarting Garageband would help, but upon re-opening the program BIG problem: the file (just this one, others are opening fine) has this error message upon opening "Audio file “07 I See the Light.aif” not found!"

    mcgregorsgal wrote:
so do I have to basically start over?
for that one recording, it looks like it.
the error -43 is a system level error, so i HIGHLY doubt this will help, however you can ctrl-click the project file, choose Show Package Contents, open the media folder and preview any audio files in there to see if the missing file is there, but in all likelihood, you will need to re-record it

  • Issue installing SQL Server 2012(with SP1) on windows 7 Error result: -2067529718

When running the installation, it suddenly stops without any error popup.
I ran the installation from the command prompt and this is what I get:
An error occurred during the SQL Server 2012 Setup operation.
    Error result: -2067529718
    Result facility code: 1220
    Result error code: 10
I recently uninstalled SQL Server 2012 SP1, because the SQL server service was not starting up, it would just hang in there with no response. I tried many things to get that issue fixed, finally I decided to uninstall and start fresh but I couldn't since
I was getting an error stating that I needed Windows 7 SP1(which was already installed). I downloaded the
microsoft fix it tool which fixed the issue.
On the control panel/Programs and features, I still see that SQL Server 2012 is listed if I click to uninstall again it tells me:
An error occurred while trying to uninstall Microsoft SQL Server 2012. it may have already been uninstalled. do you want to remove Microsoft SQL Server 2012 from the Programs and features list?
if I click yes, eventually it will be listed again.
currently I'm not able to install SQL server again and besides the info provided there are not error messages (I also copied the installation files to disk).
UPDATE: it appears that the sql server was not completely removed from the system, I still see listed the SQL server(SQLExpress) and server browser services on the SQL server configuration manager.
    Thanks.

    1) First Reboot your server and try again for the installation.
    2) If first fail again than Take a backup of Registry first for safe side and then delete the entries of SQL server 2012 if found take a reboot again and try to install again.
One more thing if installation created any file then move/Delete that also before installation.

  • Error: Result of agent resolution does not agree with agents of task

    Hi,
I'm getting the error "Result of Agent Resolution does not agree with agent of Task".  I'm passing the agents in Expression which I'm getting from Method in my previous step and passing to workflow container and it is getting passed to Expression. The userid is present in that container. And the Task is assigned as General Task but still I dont know what might be the problem. The ID is with 'US' prefix. Even if I give the userid directly in the Task, it shows the same error.
    Regards,
    JMB

    Hi
Incase you are using different clients for development and testing, make sure in testing client, task is assigned as general task.
You may check the way the userid is passed. Please note that the US is object type and Object ID(user id) is different. Both of them should not be part of one string. So while you test, just pass the user id without a prefix US. Hope it will work for u.

  • Mac OS Error Result Code 1634955892

The subject error message is what I got when I tried to copy a DVD that would not play all the way using Toast, to se if I could recover. It says after exttracting the DVD and putting in the media that it cannot record because of a Mac OS error result code 1634955892. What the !!!???>> does this mean?

I found this reference to that error code, but it seems complicated to me: http://support.apple.com/kb/TA26910?viewlocale=en_US
So, I did more searching and found this:
http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Uk/uk.comp.sys.mac/2006-07/msg00364.html which is a sort-of explanation with no fix.
    And this: http://www.tivoblog.com/archives/2007/11/18/roxio-releases-updated-version-of-to ast-popcorn-now-supports-tivo-92-leopard/
which seems to imply that Toast/Popcorn need to be updated for DVD copying.
Apparently this error code comes up when there are compatibility issues.
Have you tried extracting the DVD data using other software such as Handbrake, Ripit or MPEG Streamclip?
