I/O Error with Unbreakable Linux on VMWARE

Hallo,
I need a little bit help.
We are using a Version of "unbreakable Linux" for a Installation of E-Business Suite
for Demonstration Purposes (in fact we ant to do an upgrade from 11.0.3 E-Business-Suite to 11i) on VMWare.
After Installation we ran into the Bug "Read-Only-Filesystem after Path-Failover",
which meant, that after random I/O - Errors the filesystem was automatically remounted in read-only-mode (which also meant that the database crashed at the same time).
After Downloading several Patches we are now on the following level:
2.6.9-42.0.10.0.1.ELsmp #1 SMP Tue Feb 27 12:25:04 PST 2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux.
Now the filesystem isn't remounted in read-only-mode, nevertheless we occasionally
get the following errors (/var/log/messages)
Apr 26 23:33:45 appstraining kernel: SCSI error : <0 0 0 0> return code = 0x20008
Apr 26 23:33:45 appstraining kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 309473637
Apr 26 23:33:45 appstraining kernel: Buffer I/O error on device dm-0, logical block 38658051
Apr 26 23:33:45 appstraining kernel: lost page write due to I/O error on dm-0
Consequently we get defect Blocks and Control-Files for example and database -crashes.
I didn't find any new Patches using Up2date.
Who can help?

  • "empty file" error with CS5, linux server and mavericks

    hello to the community,
i'm the owner of a small online marketing agency.
we have been using different macs here since 10.6. until mavericks with adobe CS 5 and a linux server for years.
today i got a new MBP retina with mavericks and since now i have the following problem:
    - when i try to open a photoshop file on the server i get a "file is empty" error, when i open an illustrator file on the server illustrator crashes und when i open a pdf on the server with acrobat pro there comes a message that the file is corrupt. with acrobat reader i can open it.
    - i can open the exact files with all apps when they are on a local storage not an the server
    - i can open all files on the server with another mac with os x 10.6.
so there must be a problem with the combination cs5-files, server and os 10.9. it's weird because with my old MBP i with also using mavericks and there was no problem.
can anyone help me? it's really a problem!

i found a workaround that seems to work!
instead of connecting to the server with "smb" i connect with "cifs". so i force mavericks to connect using the old smb 1 instead of the buggy smb 2.

  • Unbreakable Linux error: That's not the correct Enterprise Linux CDROM

I eagerly downloaded Unbreakable Linux (4 CDROMS) and tried to install it in a VMWARE (Workstation 5.5.1 build-19175) virtual machine.
I choose RHEL 4.0 32bit as a base (Typical VM configuration).
All went fine until disc 3 was asked for during install. I got a "That's not the correct Enterprise Linux CDROM" error. I tried also to mount the other ISO's but that didn't work out either.
    Frustrating.
The mediacheck results in PASS for all 4 CD's - and they all are all recognized correctly. So I made sure I got the complete set.
    Anyone a shot...?

  • Network problems with Oracle Linux 5.7 on Vmware ESX 4.1

We recently installed Oracle Linux 5.7 64 on Vmware in order to run OVM Manager 3.02. The VM experiences random frequent network connectivity problems. There are no errors showing up in the network stats. The Vmware environment hosts many production VMs with no issues. We did have some trouble configuring Vmware tools with the uek kernel, so we booted the vm with the base kernel and we were then able to configure Vmware tools with no problems. We have tried running the VM on two different ESX servers with no improvement.
The network connectivity problems persist even with the base kernel. We get random ping failures into and out of the VM, and random disconnects of ssh terminal sessions.
I am not very experienced with linux, being primarily a vmware and aix admin. Any tips on stabilizing Oracle Linux on Vmware are greatly appreciated otherwise, I will have to beg for a new server to host the OVM manager.
    Thanks,
    Bob

The network connectivity problems persist even with the base kernel. We get random ping failures into and out of the VM, and random disconnects of ssh terminal sessions. Before you check on software and driver updates you might want to check your hardware settings. I've seen problems like this before when using a bad network cable or having a duplex mismatch. The later can happen when changing from a router to a network switch and configuring the switch for fixed full duplex. Depending on which end you sit you won't even see any network errors, but packages will disappear depending on traffic. Make sure you have set server's NIC and network switch port to the same topology ie. fixed or auto-negotiate, but not mixed. You can use the "ethtool" on the Linux system to verify the current settings.

I tried to search gcc-3.2 on my linux cd but its not there
can anyone please tell me from where can i install this?
    thanks

Which gcc is in your CD? List them all.
And yes, they are there. Unless someone gave you a rescue disk or stripped down live CD, in which case you need to thank the person who gave you that appropriately.
You need to search the CD/DVD and you need to learn how to install RPMs. Both can be learned by intelligent internet searches.

  • "unable to find root device" error with linux-lts

    Hi all,
I'm having a problem with booting linux-lts after a recent upgrade (3.14.39-1 -> 3.14.43-2). In particular, I get an "unable to find root device" error.
I have look at other threads for potential solutions; I have tried a) re-installing linux-lts, b) adding 'block' before 'autodetect' in mkinitcpio.conf before the re-installation, and c) changing /dev/sdb4 (my root partition) in syslinux.cfg to UUID and PARTUUID. I still get the same error.
In the emergency shell, running 'blkid' does not show the root partition in the output.
If I boot from the latest kernel (4.0.4-2), it all boots fine.
Does anybody have any ideas on anything I could try to get linux-lts to boot? I'd prefer to stay with the lts kernel if possible.

KangarooLemonade wrote:I ran through the beginner's guide to installing Arch on the wiki and installed Arch onto an external USB hard drive.
Yeah? And did you see this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Be … nvironment ?
Here you need to set the right hooks if the root is on a USB drive, if you use RAID, LVM, or if /usr is on a separate partition.
No, of course you missed it...
Boot your install using the Fallback entry. If you do not have a Fallback entry, press Tab (for Syslinux) or "e" (for GRUB) and rename it initramfs-linux-fallback.img. After it boots, open up a terminal and run:
    # nano /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
<add "usb" to the HOOKS line>
    # mkinitcpio -p linux
    # reboot
And don't forget to mark it as solved.

  • How to make Firefox access the internet from Oracle Ent. Unbreakable Linux?

    Hello
I have a Dell Duo Core x86 laptop that multiboots Windows 2003 Server, Windows XP and Oracle Enterprise Unbreakable Linux. I use Internet Explorer to
access my email while at the library so I know my laptop can access the internet. I just installed the Oracle Enterprise Unbreakable Linux in text mode and
I can still access the Internet but only if I use one of the Windows operating systems which is why I am keeping them for now. The reason is because when I
use Oracle Enterprise Unbreakable Linux, when I select Firefox to access the internet I get these messages:
    "Server not found
Firefox can't find server at www.hotmail.com
    -check address for typing errors
-if unable to load pages check network connection
-if computer or network protected by firewall make sure Firefox permitted to access
    web"
None of those reasons are true for not gaining access to the internet. I want to use Oracle Enterprise Unbreakable Linux from now which is why I installed
    but I need to know:
    1) Why do I get the "Server not found" and the other error messages when I try to access the internet using Firefox and what do I have to do to make Firefox
    access the internet successfully?

    Hi,
First you must confirm your laptop with Oracle Enterprise Unbreakable Linux can access internet.
Please open a terminal, input the following command
    1.ifconfig
    2.cat /etc/resolv.conf

    Hi,
I just installed the Unbreakable Linux and when tried to use the up2date I get a message requesting to active my environment but I don't have a CSI as I'm an Oracle employee. Does anyone know how can I make it work?
    Thanks

    Hello John,
I tried to subscribe to Unbreakable Linux Network with my company's CSI supplied to us through our Oracle partnership; I work for an Oracle Certified Advantage Partner. I have used my CSI for MetaLink registration and Service Requests, but it is not working when I try to register for "up2date" (error: "CSI is not valid").
    Should my company's CSI work?

    Thanks

Oracle 10gR1 is certified with OEL, you might have using old downloaded installer, that's why you getting error. Download new installer from otn.oracle.com.
    OR
you just need to execute runInstaller with -ignoreSysPrereqs switch:
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs
    OR
    Update oraparam.ini in STAGE_AREA/Disk1/install

  • How can i remove jdk1.4 install in oracle unbreakable linux.

I am able to comple java program in oracle unbreakable linux but not able to run program.this is simple hello world program there is no syntax problem .I am getting error:
Exception in thread Main java.lang.class format error:unrecognised class file version and i also checked :=> #javac -version

How can i unstall jdk1.4 gnu jdk/bin path and jdk 1.4 gnu java from with my system.
    Regards
    Prashansh Kumar

From what I understand, the problem is that your classes are compiled for a later version of Java. I'm not sure at this point that uninstalling Java 1.4 is the right solution - it may break important system functions.
I would rather try another approach first:
    # alternatives --config java
-> select the java version you want as default. If you want to install java 1.6 you can try the following:
    # yum install java-1.6*
    or just the runtime package
    # yum install java-1.6.0-openjdk
    For example:
    # java -version
    java version "1.4.2"
    # yum install java-1.6.0-openjdk
    # alternatives --config java
There are 2 programs which provide 'java'.
      Selection    Command
    + 1           /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.4.2-gcj/bin/java
    *  2           /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-openjdk.x86_64/bin/java
Enter to keep the current selection[+], or type selection number: 2
    # java -version
    java version "1.6.0"

  • Windows Xp and Unbreakable Linux

Anybody with an idea if its possible to have windows xp and unbreakable linux on the same system, tried it once but had problems with it maybe i did something wrong am not sure, i just need confirmation so i dont lose my files if it isnt possible. Anybody with experience on it. Have done it with windows xp and rhel 3 and it worked well. Thanks

If you are not going to use VMware do the following:
Install XP first with some partition space for Linux (15GB?)
!!!!Follow with caution, as fdisk can destroy all your data!!!
Then start linux install, select the non-window partition, format, create mount points- the usual stuff.
When it comes to grub, make sure you select the advanced grub options, and select " install on first partition of boot sector" . Select Windows XP as your default OS.
After the installation, the system boots into windows XP by default, although not through grub.
For this, you need to start linux in rescue mode (use the same install DVD/CD and at linux prompt, type linux rescue)
    mount the sysimage (chroot /mnt/sysimage)
use fdisk to change the default bootable flag (fdisk a [1-4]).
eg hda is your windows system partition; hdb is your linux partition
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/hda * 1 13054 104856223+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hdb xxx xxxx xxxxxx 83 Linux
Now reboot your system and you should have a dual boot XP/OEL.
    hth,
    userxxxx
