I/O errors with certain discs- Windows w/Boot Camp Please help.
I wasn't sure which forum to post this problem in. It fits in a few categories, so I apologize if I've gotten it wrong.
I tried to install a game (Last Half of Darkness, 2005) yesterday, and with about 1/3 of installation complete, I got this message: An error occurred while trying to copy a file: I/O error 23. I had my choice of abort, retry or ignore. After the 1st error message I chose retry. After a bit more of the installation I got another error message: I/O 1117. I then tried to ignore, that didn't work, so I aborted. I tried to install a second time, and even tried a second copy of the same game, then tried to install the 2007 sequel to Last Half, same error messages. After each attempt at installation, I could not get the drive to eject the disc. I eventually did by restarting in OSX. My iMac is 13 months old. In November I had a similar problem with another game, this one from about 2004. In that case, the game installed, but froze a few minutes into playing. Because I couldn't play, and couldn't eject, without a great deal of time and "spinning" noise, I took the computer to the Apple Store to have them look at it. I figured that if it was 2 months from being out of warranty, I should get it fixed right then. Of course all the messing with it they did showed no drive problems. All other CD or DVDs, either commercial or homemade, music, video or games have installed and run just fine.
An internet search found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891894 I did everything except the clean boot install, and contacting the manufacturer. After changing the transfer mode per these instructions, I could get all of 2/3 of the way through installation before the error messages popped up.
All drivers are up-to-date according to Windows automatic update and Apple update.
This is my 4th Mac, so I have little experience with PC/Windows. Can anyone give me a suggestion as to what I can do to install and play these games? Any help greatly appreciated.
Ruth
Hi Ruth,
I sure don't know what the issue is however you might want to go to the Bootcamp forum and post it, maybe someone knows there.

Can't install Win 7 from USB with Boot Camp - please help
Hi,
I'm going crazy trying to install Win 7 from a USB using Boot Camp.
I've got a 13" MacBook (Aluminum) with 6GB RAM (trying to get to 8GB, but that's a different issue), 500GB HDD, running 10.7.4.
In the Boot Camp Assistant I want to partition 60GB for the Win 7 drive, but when I click install I get the error: "The installer disc could not be found. Insert your Windows installer disc and wait a few seconds for it to be recognized." However, the USB drive that I used Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool in Win XP to create is plugged in. I also have the .iso file on my Mac desktop.
Googling hasn't produced any solution that I can work - most seem to be using Boot Camp assistant 3.0, and I've got 4.0.3 running.
I'd appreciate help, particularly step-by-step instructions that I could follow.
Thanks in advance.Lion has been out and most threads here deal with 10.7. and BCA 4.0.x
There are problems with burning ISO to DVD etc at anything other than slowest burn speed (2x)
New 2012 models don't have an internal DVD but if you do, then yours does not support a USB-DVD.
So you are running XP now and have Windows XP partition? knowing that the update will need 40GB and that Lion does not support XP.
Look at the other posts I made this morning for some of the FAQ Boot Camp support links. -
Problems with Boot Camp - PLEASE HELP!
I'm having problems with Boot Camp. Here's what's happening. I ran Boot Camp Assistant, partitioning a 32GB BOOTCAMP drive. I insert my copy of XP and start the installation. My MBP restarts and boots into the Windows Setup. I let it run through the initial actions. I press ENTER to proceed, F8 to accept the license agreement, then when I get to the part where I should be able to select the Partition 3 BOOTCAMP drive (as it says in the Apple Boot Camp Manual) there is only a Partition 1 Unknown drive. It is the only drive to choose from and its a C: drive. I can't figure out why after I run boot camp the partitioned drive doesn't appear as an option in the windows installation. Please help!!!
Message was edited by: CarlConti08Boot into Leo, start Disk Utility and you should see two partitions, your Leo partition and a Fat32 partition of 32GB at the end of the drive.
If not, boot camp didn't create it for some reason. If it is there then check it with DU and make sure its OK.
While your in there give it a name so you can easily identify it in your windows installer.
If there is no partition, create one using Disk Utility at the END if the drive. make sure you create it as a msdos (Fat32) partition and give it a name. The name cannot be more than 11 characters must be comprised of numbers and/or letters (no special characters).
Verify it before exiting DU.
Put in windows install disk, reboot - hold option key after the chime until you see the boot screen - select windows CD to begin install.
Don't forget to install Leo windows drivers after installing windows.

That's part of your Windows operating system, relating to the MCI driver for cdaudio devices.
Perhaps try running an sfc /scannow as per:

Does sfc repair any files? If so, does your iTunes start launching properly again afterwards? -
Hi All smart user

thanks .
ETThere is no such thing as an "SG3" or "SG4". Did you possibly mean a 3GS and iPhone4?
It has always been very basic to ensure that a backup exists of your media and other important files. Computers fail, hard drives crashes... things happen. Do you not have a backup? The iPhone, like all iDevices is NOT a backup of your media, but rather a mirror of the content in the iTunes library on your computer.
If your contacts, pics, etc are not on your computer, no backups of the iPhone exist, and they are not on the phone, they are gone.
No one can magically make them re-appear. -
Windows 7 64 Bit install on Imac 2010 Using Boot Camp PLease Help
OK so I am trying to install my 64 bit windows 7 using bootcamp on my imac 2010 i just bought it today. I have created the partition and the computer restarted and went to windows 7 setup however it then told me it could not find any drivers for the cd/dvd. I think the drivers on the OS X cd but i cant eject the windows 7 cd to put the OS X cd in because I am in windows 7 setup and the eject button wont work. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to proceed? I would Really appreciate it thank you.
It sounds that the Microsoft Installer does not like the optical drive inside of your Mac.
Do you have access to an external DVD drive?
If yes, try the Windows 7 install with an external DVD drive.
If no, try to install Windows 7 from a USB drive.

If you don't have an external DVD drive or a USB drive that is 8GB or larger, you might want to consider borrowing or buying one. -
Windows 7 Boot Camp drivers - Help
I am thinking of installing Windows 7 on my iMac. My iMac originally came with Snow Leopard but I upgraded to Lion via the app store. Is there anything I need to be aware of as I read that people are running into problems regarding drivers. Any general information on the process would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. All of the necessary drivers are on the gray Snow Leopard disks your Mac came with. Once you finish installing Win 7 and are at the Windows desktop, insert disk 1. Windows will give the usual prompt of what you want to do with the disk. Click on Run Setup. All of the initial Windows drivers for your Mac will be installed.
After that, you will have a Windows start menu option of Apple Software Update. Run that to install any driver and software updates it lists. -

Problem with iWeb Quicktime page using Boot Camp Windows XP
I used iWeb '08 to create a one-page web site with a short QuickTime movie (.mov file). The movie plays fine in Mac OS X Safari. I have a Windows XP Boot Camp partition, and when I boot into Windows and load the web page using Internet Explorer, the movie will not play. It gives a plug-in error and the browser crashes. The same thing happens with Windows Safari. However, the movie plays fine using Windows Firefox.
Is this an iWeb problem or Boot Camp problem? I don't have access to a straight Windows PC. An suggestions will be appreciated. The URL for the web page is:
http://www.hearnweb.com/avian/The problem was a setting in QuickTime. I enabled "Safe Mode" in the Advanced tab of QuickTime Preferences, which did the trick.

I just bought a 15" macbook pro, do the cds that come with the mac have the drivers i need to update windows after installing windows using boot camp?
What DVDs are this ?
If it is OSX Snow Leopard Installation DVD then yes this disc contains the BootCamp Drivers version 3.x and is needed after the installation of Windows to install the BootCamp Drivers.
With OSX Lion BootCamp is at version 4.x and the BootCamp Drivers have to be downloaded during use of the BootCamp Assistant in OSX.

I need to know which update(s) I can apply to help stabalize the system.
Typing the body of the thread message in the title, huh? -)
I am working on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2009) with boot camp running Windows 7 pro 64-bit. Windows crashes quite often now-a-days and I need to get this fixed. I heard that updating boot camp can help. Currently I am running Version 3.0.4 (322).
Only Apple could hamstring and tie Mac OS to Windows. There isn't any other than whether you can download the drivers into Windows (you can) but Apple puts a block on the installer setup even if your mac does not support it.
Windows 7 needs at least Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.3 is what you should already have. And you are not getting security updates if you don't have at least 10.6.8 as was pointed out. --- you arent using Software Update as you should. And you should backup and clone Mac (and Windows) as well.
You need Mountain Lion to use Boot Camp 5.x which supports Windows 7 & 8 and 64-bit.
I would upgrade to Lion if you can realizing that Rosetta and PowerPC are no longer supported though.

Is there a download of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software if I'm not using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3?
Yes, you can download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software here.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.
How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. For a complete list of Windows OS support, click here. -
