I only have a MacBook Air but no iOS devices. Does iCloud offer me any benefits?
After digging through support documents, it appears that iCloud is really only meant to support the sync and storage of files for those users with iOS devices. I have one MacBook have the iWork apps as well as MS Office for Mac. I have no other Apple devices. I use Windows at work and have an Android phone. I was really hoping to use iCloud for redundant offsite storage to backup all of the work done on my Macbook, with the added luxury of being able to open said work from a remote location (i.e. on my Windows PC at work since I have MS Office on both platforms).
Am I correct in thinking that iCloud will not provide the features I am looking for?

I have my Macbook Air hooked up to a Thunderbolt Display, is there any way to power on the Macbook Air using an Apple USB keyboard plugged into the Thunderbolt display? I would like to be able to keep the Macbook Air in the Archbook dock and not have to open it to power it on?

Trying to change ownership of my old iPod. The advice here is to go to "Devices">"Summary">"Restore", but I find "Devices" does not offer "Restore" but only "Sync", "Transfer", "Backup", and a greyed "Restore from backup."
What I don't understand is that your iTunes looks different from mine--just a little bit. You have 3 circles, red, yellow, and green, in the upper right end of the top bar. INstead I have a square that is half gray. When I click it, I get a menu very similar to the menu under "File."
The only place I see an entry for "Devices" is under "File," but it only gives the 4 options I mentioned before (see below). There is no "Summary."
Here's another screen shot after I added an album to music. Now all the choices under "Devices" are grayed. -
I have an icloud account and can access my numbers documents on my mac at home and iphone by clicking on the numbers icon and these saved documents appear
I now have a macbook air on which I have icloud but when I click the numbers icon I can't find my saved documents

Hi, i have an Air but want to upgrade to the new model. How do i wipe the memory clean of my existing Air so i can sell it, and ensure when i get my new PC it automatically assumes the existing settings? Any help appreciated...
First of all, as a rule you should have two backups before you do anything else. (most don't, and it's up to you).
I would have one backup done as a Time Machine backup on an external disk, which you will use to import all settings, data and apps to your new MBA via Setup Assistant on your very first boot of the new machine.
Second, I would have prepared, a bootable backup done via Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper on a second external disk. This you can use for unforseen problems that might be evident on the Time Machine backup (hey it happens).
After you have these two items in preparation, then use the original system disk or flash drive to reformat and reinstall the original operating system to the old machine, cleanly. After that, it is ready for sale. If the unit is not an SSD equipped MBA, you can perform a secure wiping of the disk when you perform the reformatting.
To reiterate.... You need a good Time Machine Backup as a source for you setting up the new Mac with Setup Assistant. -

I have a macbook air (mid 2012) and a thunderbolt display (27'').
Do I absolutely need to connect the power supply together with the thunderbolt cable ?
I found that the screen won't wake up if only the thunderbolt connection is plugged. Is this normal ?I just got my ATD and late 2011 MBP up and running. I've not tried running without the power adapter from the ATD plugged in, but I just tried and didn't have any problems with the display not waking. my start up disc is full i have a macbook air, i back everuthing up with time capsule and have movies all my music libraries and photos onto that too so as i have free space, but my max still says my startup disc is full with "other"
First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
If you're using Time Machine to back up a portable Mac, some of the available space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of files you've recently deleted. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as "Backups." The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself.
To locate large files, you can use Spotlight as described here. That method may not find large folders that contain a lot of small files.
You can also use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal. -
Have new MacBook Air and old MacBook (2 1/2 years old). Can transfer files from Air to MacBook by Bluetooth but cannot transfer file from MacBook to Air. When I try, MacBook does not recognize Air. File transfer only goes in one direction. Any solution to this problem? Regards
The Setup Assistant can restore your data from a Time Machine backup. You'll be asked if you want to do this the first time you turn the computer on.

I'm trying to restore my MacBook Air but it tells me I need to purchase OS X mountain lion which I have but it says I haven't and I obviously can't put a disc in because MacBook Airs don't take discs. What do I do?

I was able to restore my backup from my time machine ext drive to a new 1tb seagate ext drive. so i felt sort of ok. but yesterday that older ext drive i used for time machine wouldn't open! i called applecare and they trouble shooted with me and said it's probably a goner and data is probably corrupted. it's only a few years old and i'm very careful with it. my husband accidentally dropped my new drive last night -- i know, unbelievable, i was SO upset, poor guy -- but I'm so stressed with all of this. i have 10 years of photos and videos. so now i only have the one newer drive with a backup. i have to buy another one today to backup again so i at least have two backups. i tried to delete a ton of files last night to free up the 30 gb of space i need to get my full library back on my mac. i have 90gb free and deleted 7 years worth of photos i had on picasa that were in my "pictures" folder and also a ton or random photos and videos i had in that same pictures folder and thought that would give me the 30 gb but it hardly freed up any space at all! do you know why that is? all of this stuff is really a pain and really stressful. thank god i did have a backup in the first place but now i am panicked the one i have left will somehow crash. especially after my husband dropped the drive lastnight! it didn't fall far and fell onto a wood floor and seems fine, but after my older ext drive crashed yesterday -- and i lost my entire iphoto library a fewweeks ago off my mac -- i feel cursed. any answers you have would be great. thank you.

There are many forms of ‘Malware’ that can affect a computer system, of which ‘a virus’ is but one type, ‘trojans’ another. Using the strict definition of a computer virus, no viruses that can attack OS X have so far been detected 'in the wild', i.e. in anything other than laboratory conditions.
