I opened firefox and found this on my browser. file:///C:/Users/Public/Desktop/Mozilla%20Firefox.lnk. What is it?

I opened Firefox and the above was on my browser toolbar. It was never there before today. I inadvertently downloaded it and it was saved to my desktop. I deleted it(I hope),but am wondering what the heck it is. I hope I didn't just cause myself a lot of grief!

That's just a shortcut to Firefox browser.Right click on it and delete it.

I was updating Firefox to the newest version 7.0.1 from version 6.0.2 I think it was, I clicked the restart Firefox button that always comes up after updating. It started updating and then Firefox never restarted like it was supposed to after it was done updating. I did have Firefox crash on maybe about 30 minutes or so earlier which bothered me because I have been using Firefox for years and never had it crash on me before but I didn't think much of it at the time it happened because I was able to go back onto Firefox and finish what I had been working on. A while later I checked for updates and updated. The first time I tried to update it didn't work though so I had to shutdown Firefox and reopen Firefox and start the update a second time. It was after the second time that when I tried to open Firefox I got that message about failing to start because xul.dll can't be found. I filed a crash report when my Firefox crashed. This would have been around 1am-2am in the morning that Firefox first crashed and then wouldn't allow me to open it after updating. I have a DELL laptop running the Windows XP operating system but the laptop is probably at least 6 or 7 years old. The laptop will no longer charge so I always have to have it plugged into an outlet. Both my laptop hard drive and my external hard drive give me messages that I am running out of disk space on my hard drive. I bought this laptop 6 or 7 years ago second hand so it could be even older. In short it's a piece of crap and it gives me all kinds of issues but I currently can't afford a new one, but I have never had any problems with Firefox and I use Firefox more than any other aspect of my laptop so it's really really bothering me. May you please help me fix it?

Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

When I try to open Safari, I get NCSW21 and that server can't be found. This happens everytime. I am using AirPort and have a strong internet signal. I have no problem opening Firefox and surfing the web. Only with the Safari page. Can anybody help.

I would suggest that you first follow the troubleshooting that the OP did in the second link, which is to test in a new user account to see if the behavior is consistent. If it is, you may need to address the issue at a software level by re-installing Safari. More information on this process can be found in the following article:

I am attempting to open Firefox and I have a dialog box pop up that says: "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time." How do I close this "copy"?

I will check the Profil_in_use article, but I think I already have done all it suggests, and without success. If you solve this we change your name from Cor-el to Jor-el (Superman's father, of course)

If you close Firefox, then start Firefox in Safe Mode, does the problem still occur? For instructions on starting in Safe Mode, see [[Safe Mode]].
Extensions can sometimes be the cause of problems. If the problem does not occur in [[Safe Mode]], then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.

1. Back up your iPhoto Library - you should always have a back up anyway.
Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate
2. Reinstall
To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

It's Pac-Man's 30th Birthday today, and Google's homepage is a playable Pac-Man game around the Google logo. My boyfriend had the same problem, then I went to Google and was like Hey, it's Pac-Man! And then the siren started. He plays fine on my laptop, but for some reason the music is stuck on his computer.
All you have to do is disable the "Cool Previews" add on for firefox. Go to the "Tools" link at the top of the browser, go down to "Add Ons", go to the "Cool Previews", click "Disable". Then restart firefox and it should be fine!

You'll certainly need a new logic board.
If I were you, I would take the machine into your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them evaluate the problems and give you an estimate for repair. If you're out of warranty, be prepared to pay a very high price to get your computer repaired.

Simply restore from your backup.
You do have Time Machine running, yes?
Or you use some other backup program?

Am getting this message when I attempt to open Firefox: "The application or DLL F:\Program Files\ Mozilla Firefox\nss3.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."

I had responded favorably to the upgrade message from Firefox but after the download I kept getting a Firefox message that I had to close all other instances of Firefox running before the installation process could complete. There were no other open Firefox programs! I re-booted and tried to open Firefox, and the Windows alert already cited started, and Firefox will not open.
Checking via Windows Explorer it appears that I still have version 3.6.

I resolved the problem. I went to CNet and re-downloaded the upgrade. It proceeded as intended and the upgrade is installed and running with no loss of plug-ins, bookmarks, etc.

Turn off Time Machine before you open iMovie. It's a semi-known issue right now.
