I opened i-tunes and all my songs and playlists where gone and some of the songs I purchased on I-tunes store where missing from my i-tunes folder on the C drive as well. I don't want to hook up the i-pod because I have it set to update when ever I plug it in. Can anyone help.

Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode,put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
Error 1600, 1601, 1602
Follow the steps listed above for Error 1604. This error may also be resolved by disabling, deactivating, or uninstalling third-party security, antivirus, and firewall software. See steps in this article for details on troubleshooting security software.

Just logged on, all of my songs and playlists are gone

Hi, Just logged onto my account through the browser and all of my songs and playlists are gone. Even further, there's a recently played artists who I definitely did not listen to. Assuming that someone hacked my account, I changed my password. But when I looked in "Recover Playlists" there were none of my missing playlists to recover. What is happening to my account? I pay for this application. I had a dozen playlists and thousands of songs that took months to put together. Please help me recover my missing playlists and songs! Thanks,Phoenix

I'd recommend you to contact support here so they can help you fix this issue.
If you receive an automated email telling you to check the help section or the community, you need to reply back to it, even if it's from a no-reply address.

Since upgrading to the latest Itunes my ratings and playlists are GONE!!!!!

Since I upgraded to Itunes 7 I cannot see any of my ratings or playlists on my computer. But I still have the playlists and ratings on my Ipod!?!?!?!!? What is UP? HELPPPPPPP??? Also, when I first opened the new Itunes it did not see any of my music even though it was looking in the right folder. So I simply grabbed all the songs and dumped them right into Itunes. Now it sees the songs ONLY (no playlists and ratings). HHHHHHEEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!

With your itunes window open, click the iTunes menu at the top of your screen, beside the apple. Click Quit iTunes at the bottom of the menu to ensure it's actually quit.
Hold option (same as alt) on your keyboard. Do not let it go. Click your itunes icon on your dock, while continuing to hold option. After a very short moment, you should see the library window with the described items show up...
You can then create a new library on your external drive to contain your movies. Keep in mind, though, you'll have to repeat the above to select which library you want to use.

HOW DO I MAKE CD'S I BURN ON I TUNES KEEP ALL THE SONG INFO

I SEEM TO BURN A CD WITH ALL THE TRACK INFO SHOWING AND WHEN I RE INSERT THE C.D. You can burn a cd a number of ways, iTunes like programs such as Nero etc gives you some options.
Audio CD
This will burn tracks in a format that all CD players can read. This will not retain the tag data such as track name, artist , album etc.
MP3 CD
Burns tracks to CD that can be read by certain CD players, this keeps the tag data. Some players display the data in a small scrolling screen etc.
Data CD
Basically just a date storage function that can be read by computers and certain CD capable devices. This keeps the tag data.
Backup CD
This makes an image of your iTunes library, can span multiple discs and keeps tag data.

This may indicate a corrupt preference file with iTunes trying to open the wrong location. Try holding down shift as you launch iTunes then choose the correct file, normally <User's Music>\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. See iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one.

My white mac book asked me to shut down and now it starts, plays the opening them tune and then has a light blue light... won't go any further. Help!

My Mac asked me to shut down unexepectedly yesterday and when it restarted, once it played the opening theme it gets stuck on a light blue screen. There is a slight noise from the back right hand corner, where the disc drive is. I cannot remember if there is a disc in ther... possibly. It is the old white Mac Book. Desperately hoping she hasn't gone to computer heaven!

Latest update, if it's left running for 5 mins or so, a grey question marks appears, flashes for a couple of mins and then it turns itself off.

The storage space taken up by "Other" can be made up of, notes or files of any kind you've added to the iPod whilst using it as a hard disk or album artwork. Or sometimes when the iPod data base has become corrupt.
There will always be a few MBs of used space under "other" but if it's in GBs it's unusually large. This often happens when the iPod data base becomes corrupt.
If the iPod is enabled for disk use, you can look at the folders on the iPod through Explorer or Finder (on a Mac) and delete anything you don't want.
If it's a corruption of the iPod database (as seems likely here) it will probably need to be restored, see how to restore the iPod to factory settings which will erase the iPods contents and reclaim the used space.
Then reload the music from iTunes.

ITunes Match not showing all my songs or playlists

I've just upgraded to an iPhone 5, and successfully restored from an iCloud backup. All apps are downloaded and working ok. iOS is 6.1.3.
But, after turning on iTunes Match, I have no playlists and only a quarter of my songs (titles starting A - F) are appearing. Each time I open the Music app, the cloud icon and progress bar appear, as if it knows something is wrong, but it disappears after a minute or two and nothing's happened.
Songs that do appear download and play normally.
I've been through this process before without a hitch, so any help you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Meant to also say, I have also tried repeatedly turning iTunes Match on and off, and signing out of iTunes and signing back in, all to no avail.

I turned my laptop on just before and clicked to open my itunes only to find it empty and completely wiped clean. I cant afford to lose my 3000 songs and all the bought apps.... someone please help i have no idea how to get everything back onto it! No one will help me from the apple company and i really am beginning to stress. Is there any way it is backed up and i can restore the itunes to its original state? it just doesnt make sense for it all to be gone, just like that.

Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps youshouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

I downloaded 4.o and it booted 3.16. Now MAC OS can't open 4.0 and everything is gone. How can I get the old version back or get 4.9 to work. I run Imac 10.4.11. Thanks
