I opened my Pages document, choose Share, but Mail is inactive. It used to be active, don't know what happened. How do I activate mail so I can send
my Pages document via email?
Prior to the current version, the share menu contained only the means of sharing (Mail, Export). Choosing one of these opened a sub menu containing the available formats for the item to be shared (eg. Pages, Word, PDF).
For reasons unknown, Aple has revised the Share menu to show the means of sharing as a header (greyed) and the formats to use (Pages, Word, PDF) as menu items.
Choose the format lsted under the header.

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -
The list of open web pages, which normally sits bottom right on my screen, flipped to the left. How can I move it back to the right?
I clicked Alt + tab and saw 'Deplacer' (Reposition - I'm in France). Then the cursor became a thing like a crossroads and I clicked where I wanted to put the list of open pages but nothing happened.You may have placed the bookmarks icon on the Navigation Toolbar to open the bookmarks in the sidebar instead of the bookmarks menu button that opens a drop down list.<br />
There are two icons available for opening or accessing the bookmarks that both have a star.<br />
The icon with the drop marker opens the drop down list with the bookmarks (Bookmarks Menu button).<br />
The other, without the star, opens the bookmarks in the sidebar, just like the Ctrl+B shortcut or View > Sidebar > Bookmarks

I have both quickoffice and pages on my iPad, and when I try to print from either of those through EpsoniPrint they don't print "normal". And pages prints with a border around it. How can I adjust that or is there a better app for printing via wireless? I have an epson 510, so it's wireless capable but not AirPrint.
If you have a Mac I would recommend that your install Printopia. Here is a link to it:

With Printopia, any printer that you can connect to your Mac will appear on your iPad as long as they are on the same wi-fi network. Try Printopia to see if that border goes away. Good luck! -
Unable to open older pages documents
hello
i've got a problem with the pages software.
i've got the older version of 'pages' (4.3) and i've installed just recently the new version. at least i think i have. when i go to apple store and see recent downloads, i can see the new version of pages has been installed/bought (although i don't recall paying for it or receiving an invoice??)
however, i'm now unable to open any pages documents that i created in 4.3. i keep getting the message 'a new version of pages is needed to open this document'.
when i click on 'more info' i get the apple pages site and i click on 'view in apple store' but from the apple store the new pages is 'installed'.
so i'm stuck and typically, like today, i reeeeeeeally need this file.
i've got a basic mac (bought in 2010) - i'm running os x 10.9.2. there's no updates currently available.
any ideas anyone??

liddy17You have Pages 5 in Applications folder and Pages 4.3 in Applications/iWork 09 folder.
Pages 5 is taking command and it seems you have opened the documents in PAges 5 without knowing it though they do not look quite the same when opened. See if you can open the document in Pages 5 and then go File > revert or File > export > Pages 09 -
When I try to open a pages document on my mac book pro it says "The file 'thesis.pages' couldn't be opened." But i can open the same file on my iPad and iPhone without a problem.
Thanks very much for the instructions. I encountered this problem this morning myself and the recommendation fixed the problem immediately. When things like this happen with iCloud and Pages it makes me wonder if I might be better off using something else, having just recently had to fix the problem that the current Pages can't read documents I created with a much earlier version until they were "upgraded" by an interim version.

I'm trying to open a pages document in land scape format on my iPad2 but a window opens saying that it only sports documents from iWork '09.
Also does any one know how to rotate an image in photos or an image that is in a document from pages?
ThanksYou could always try turning the Ipad around to landscape after undoing the lock sreen switch on the side.
Yes you could try using 2 fingers to hold the photo and rotating the picture but it usally goes back to normal. But you try taking a snapshot by pressing the home and the lockscreen button at the same time. -
I can open some pages documents, but others I cannot.

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 110 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

You can add the icon of the missing Pages on your Dock or open Pages from the Apple menu > Recent Items list.
Or you can archive Pages 5 so that it doesn't automatically open.
If you are unhappy about this mess that Apple has created, review/rate Pages 5 in the App Store.

Pages will not open a Pages document
I made a Pages document on my computer at home (iMac 10.4.8) and I am wanting to open the same document on my computer at work (eMac 10.4.10). I get a message simply stating that the document "could not be opened." Why will my document open in Pages on one computer and not on the other? I have iWork on both computers. Any help will be appreciated!
There shouldn't be a problem opening a Pages document with the same major version number but different sub-numbers. But, you can't open a Pages 3 document in Pages 1 or 2 or a Pages 2 document in Pages 1. In Pages 2 there is an option in the Save dialog to save as iWork '05 (Pages 1) & Pages 3 has the option of saving as iWork '05 or iWork '06.

Is it not possible to open a iWork Paes documnet using appleworks. As Sagesse notes, AppleWorks can't open Pages documents because it was released/updated years before Pages was made available. Apple does not claim that AppleWorks can open Pages documents.
Pages does not perfectly convert every document to a Word format. Nothing but Word does this.
But, plain text is plain text. It has no formatting, fonts, styles, etc. That's why it's called plain text and why your formatting, etc is 'screwed up'.
Regarding Peggy's advice that AppleWorks cannot open Pages documents converted to RTF. This is generally true, but not technically true. In any case, it's easy to work around.
AppleWorks, Pages and Word can all open RTF files. However, if you include an image in a RTF file, it becomes a RTFD file. So because most Pages documents contain images, these files will be exported to a RTFD file format. AppleWorks and Word cannot handle a RTFD file. To work around this either: don't add images to your Pages documents, or open the the RTFD file (it's really just a folder containing a RTF file and the images) so you can open the RTF file in AppleWorks or Word.
HTML is a poor format to rely on for word processing documents they look different from browser to browser.
AppleWorks can only import PDF files, page-by-page, as images.
Before you consider purchasing MS Office, first download NeoOffice/J. It's a free clone of MS Office that does an almost perfect job at Office file translation.

I can't open a pages document.
I can't open a pages document. It says I need a new version of pages. I searched for upgrades but can't find any. Am I being forced to re-buy the program in order to access my documents? I looked into upgrading operating system, but Mavericks says I can't - my machine is too old? Seriously? It is starting to look like upgrades are breaking what otherwise worked fine, then charging to upgrade to make it work?
Pages 5 requires Mavericks.
If you can't upgrade to Mavericks you will need to Export your Pages 5 file to Pages '09 or Word .doc/x format then open it with whatever Pages version you have (you didn't say).
You can open Pages 5 files inside Safari using iWork for iCloud beta and Send a Copy in Word format to yourself.

Yes, Word can open a Pages document. But first you have to use Pages to Export it to Word format. Not a big deal. Just know that the more complicated the Pages doc is (i.e. text boxes, graphics, weird stuff), the less faithfully it's likely to be rendered in Word. But simpler docs do well.
