I orderd nano what to buy next? film or cover?

What is better to buy ?
film or cover ?
if a cover what brand, if film what brand (how is the Icondom?)
thanks.

I bought both. I bought the crystal film (overlay plus) from Power Support. Covers front and back. I also have the silicone cover from zCover; they give you two plus a plastic carrying case; one comes with lanyard and other doesn't. You don't even have to take it off to put in nano dock. It's easy to take off and put on. I also got the armband which I use for walking/jogging.

  • Ran out of ports. What to buy next?

    Hello.
I currently own a WRT54G hooked up to my DSL and home network. Everthing works fine.
I have used all 4 ethernet ports on the back though and am buying another computer soon.
What would people recommend I buy if I want 4 more ports?
Can I buy a normal wired linksys hub and "hook into" the WRT54G?
and will I still be able to attach a certain MAC address to a certain IP address? even though i may now have two devices?
I would be interested in an 8 port wireless too if easier but have not found one on the site.
    thank you

I have a setup similar to what you want.  I would recommend that you purchase a switch.  You will probably want either a 5-port or an 8-port switch.  You can wire any router Ethernet (LAN) port to any port on the switch.   When you do this, you will need to unplug one of the devices that is currently wired to the router, and plug it into the switch --- this will make room on your router for the wire running from the router to the switch.
Connecting a router to a switch will "waste" one port on each device, that is, these two ports are not available for connecting computers, printers, etc.  So when you use a 4-port router with a 5-port switch, you will have 4+5-2= 7 useful ports.  Similarly, a 4-port router with an 8-port switch would give you a total of 10 useful ports.
"Wireless access" is not sold by "ports".  To add wireless access to your existing wired system, you would need to buy a "Wireless Access Point", and run a wire from it to your router or switch.
Alternatively, to add wireless access, you could replace your current wired router with a wireless router.  Most wireless routers come with wired Ethernet ports, allowing both your wired and wireless computers to use the same router.
The main advantage of using a wired router with a "Wireless Access Point", rather than using a "wireless router", is that you can place the "Wireless Access Point" in a different location than the router, and this may be helpful in getting wireless access to the locations that you want it, especially if you have a large home or heavily constructed (concrete-rebar) walls.  The disadvantage is that you will need to run a wire from the "Wireless Access Point" to your switch or router.
The Linksys wireless routers that I have seen are set up with a default of 50 users, but I have never tested them to see how many wireless users could actually get connected.

  • AirTunes dropouts - what to buy next?

I have had AirTunes dropouts with my Airport Express (g, 2007) since the beginning and haven't used it for this reason for a long time. I am now looking at upgrading our modem/wireless setup and I would like to ask what I should purchase and if that is a guaranteed solution.
Current setup is a Thompson ST780 modem/wireless router running at "g", WPA protected. iTunes is running on the current iMac (mid 2011) and the Airport Express ("g", 2007). All are in the same (small) room. Music dropouts occur irregularly, but tend to occur more often in the evening. To try and understand the issue, I made some measurements.
The iMac detects 21 other wireless networks. Nevertheless, noise appears to be low (-98 using terminal command), signal strength is -48. These values do not change (much) in periods of dropouts. I did a couple of tests with 1,000 pings to google. Without streaming: packet losses are below 1 percent, average time is around 23 ms, some spikes to 200ms but standard deviation is low (5 to 10%) so these are exceptions. Whilst streaming the major statistics do not change except the outliers approach 300 ms and the stdev increases slightly (<20ms). However, during very bad dropout periods, packet loss rises to 2%, minima are still 19ms but maxima go up to 1841ms, average is now 73ms and stdev 177ms. Needless to say, surfing becomes very slow. Moreover connection to the AE is occasionally lost and it is hard to re-connect. It seems that the AirTunes problems are taking up all wifi bandwidth, as soon as it is unplugged internet works great again. Interesting is also the graph of incoming and outgoing data from the imac. Outgoing is obviously high, incoming low. Around the time of a dropout, the incoming signal goes to zero whilst outgoing remains stable. As the dropout ends, both incoming and outgoing spike for a brief moment, after which they pick up the normal pattern. Looks like buffering the missed data. Btw, I've tried all channels and also WEP incryption etc.. I am also not doing any other heavy-duty internet work, just mail. Any thought on the reason for this problem?
The question is, is it save to conclude that the AE will never function flawlessly in this setup and environment? Even if the wireless router is replaced by -say- an Airport Extreme? Or are there any alternatives, like assigning specific IP-addresses? And if I were to replace this unit with the latest n-AE (and obviously get an 'n' router), will the problem be solved for sure?
What is irritating about this issue is that technically the device is not broken (I have two, both have the same issue), but it still does not work as advertized.

I have a mid 2011 iMac, an "n" Time Capsule and an "n" Airport Express. The Time Capsule is connected to my router (a BT one - I'm in the UK) with an ethernet cable and the iMac is connected to the Time Capsule with an ethernet cable too.
The Airport Express is in the next room and is only used for Airtunes to my HiFi system, streamed from the iMac. I too have been suffering dropouts and these seem to have increased since upgrading to AirPort Utility 6.0 and the latest firmware updates for the TC and AE.
At the moment, the AE is connected wirelessly to the network created with the TC and the iMac's internal WiFi is turned off. I have also tried setting the AE up as a separate network, turning the iMac's WiFi on and connecting to it directly. I have also tried limiting the AU to 5GHz only. In the past I have also tried selecting individual WiFi channels.
None of these actions have cured the problem. I'm coming to the conclusion that the only way to het a really secure connection to the AE is to connect to it with an Ethernet cable, but that sort of defeats the object, doesn't it?
I really wish this would work as it should. It's so nearly brilliant.

  • I have no idea what to do next?!

I am posting this here because I have no other ideas of what to do next. I purchased an item in October (a pre order item) and when I got it in December, I noticed it had issues and returned it to the stores. I used $115 in reward certificates to purchase this item. I never received the rewards issued back to my account. I have contacted the RZ Reward Customer Service more than 5 times. Each of those times, they assured me they would send it "to the back office". They themselves were not able to credit my account because it was such a large amount. I realize that. Everyone I have talked to said 3-5 days. I once talked with a nice lady that said my account was not linked and did something that made my points disappear, but then reappear. So that's all good... but still no points. In November, I purchased an item that was not in stock at the store for the 3X points night and my points never tripled like they should have. Each time I have contacted Customer Service about the rewards, I have also mentioned the 3X points issue as well. Today, I talked with a Rep who said she could not find the transaction and would now need to find the receipt. That's all good, cause I still have it (because of no resolution) but, I must ask, Why is this taking so long?! During this duration I have received 500 comp points for my trouble, that's nice... but there is about $125 in points missing from my account... and at some point I want to use them, Maybe not now, tomorrow, or next month... but when there is something I realize that I cannot live one more day without. I hope this helps.... FH

Good morning fathawkeye, and thank you for posting to the forum,
It should generally take between 3 and 6 business days for a certificates point value to repost to a member's My Best Buy™ account following a return or cancellation.  Based on the return date, you should have seen 5750 points ($115 in certificates) repost to your account more than a month ago, so I can understand why you might feel frustrated.  In my opinion, we should have been able to address the matter during anyone of the phone calls you have made.
With that being said, I would like to go over your My Best Buy™ account with you to ensure it is up-to-date and to also discuss the purchase that may have qualified for 3X bonus points.  To accomplish that, I will be sending you a private message.  You can check your private messages by logging into the forum and clicking on the envelope icon located at the top of the page.
    Warm Regards,

  • I currently have OS X version 10.5.8 what is my next upgrade?

I currently have Mac OS X version 10.5.8 - intel processor what should my next upgrade be?  I need to upgrade in order to accommodate my new ipod nano.

If you have a PPC iMac 10.5.8 is as far as you can do. If you have an Intel iMac:
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether further updates are required.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

  • Rebuilding iTunes Library...What is the next step ?

    Hi:
    I tried follwoing your advice.
I can do the Ctrl-A to select all songs in the iTunes libary.
I can right-click and select Delete,
but when I do, I do not get the 3 options that you mentioned
(Cancel, Keep Files, and Move To Recycle Bin)
I get a dialog box stating:
Are you sure you want to remove the selcted songs from your iTunes library?
These songs will also be remove from any iPod or iPhone which synchronizes with your iTunes library.
Why am I not getting the options you stated above ?
I have seen you oprions on a Mac at best Buy, but I am running an HP laptop under Vista Home Premium.
Then has a Remove or Cancel button to be clicked.
If I follow through with the above, will it wipe out my music library ?
How do I go about rebuilding the databse ?
    Thank you

Sorry DaleB, I have redone my library so many times, I forgot about this prompt. Just click 'yes'/'remove' to that question.
Reloading the library will only make your iPod resync again, thats all.

    Hi:
    A related issue.
I made a copy (backup ?) of the Music folder in Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS, to my Desktop. If something corrupts the Music in iTunes, will this be a "good enough" backup to be able to restore the music by moving it back into the Music folder, or will soemthing be missing ?
    Thanx !

    ==============================================================================

What is it you want to do? If you want to clear your library and start it over with the same media files already on your computer, the way you are doing it is both more work and dangerous (you could lose files accidentally if you hit the wrong button).
Assuming you backed up your library elsewhere, you will have an "iTunes Music.itl" file, or at least you do with XP. I am not sure if Vista works any differently. This is the file that is the database file that contains all the info about what is in your library, playcounts, ratings, etc. If you don't have that backed up somewhere else with your library, you should do that. If you periodically back up just that file, you can rebuild your library assuming the media files are not lost.
So to clear our your current library, simply grab the iTunes Music.itl file in your iTunes folder and drag it to the desktop or the trash. Open iTunes and you should now see a blank library. Close iTunes, you will find a new iTunes Music.itl file has been created (representing the new blank library. To restore your old .tl file, simply drag your back up copy and overwrite the newly created blank library iTunes Music.itl file. That's it.
Alternatively, you can File -> Import the .xml file that is also created and maintained by iTunes in the same folder as the iTunes Music.itl file. But Apple does state the XML file doesn't quite have everything contained in the iTunes Music.itl file, although it isn't clear what exactly is missing, at least not to me.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • What to do Next Need Help

I was suppose to have fibre fitted on Monday, engineer came to the box and found out there was my fibre optic port was faulty and not a spare one in the box!
I've had already been cut off from my other provider, already been cut off by my other provider, who I had been with for 15+ years, as the internet had started to drop out.
But, its gone from bad to worse.  I had to phone up BT to get the fault reported and was told that I could buy a dongle and BT would kindly refund me £20!! very nice all the dongles are £28+ so £8 out of pocket and a 15 mile trip to pick one up.
Was told it would be fixed within 48 hours - still nothing and now being told they will phone me on Friday.
I would have no problem with this if I was only using it for pleasure, but I am a freelance charity fundraiser who works from home and reliant on internet for work purposes.  I have used the dongle for two days and have exceed the 'fair usage policy' so basically I am stuffed!!
I've put a complaint in and phone twice but all I keep getting it sorry sorry sorry, sorry isn't going to help I want some action.  I have funding applications to do for charities and I wish I had kepted with my other provider as a bit of internet is better than nothing at all.
Any serious advice on what to do next?

If not, then you would have to wait until someone changes you to a new port on the cabinet. Its only a copper cable connection, not an optical fibre, unless you are on FTTP.
Its going to depend on when someone from Openreach is available to do the work, as they are very busy. You can claim compensation for delay.

  • I rented to HD movies on Apple TV, biuth at the same time.  I was able to watch one, butb the second says - error while laoding this content, try later - well I tried later numerous times and continuemto get same message.  what is my next step??

I rented two HD movies on Apple TV, both at the same time.  I was able to watch one, but the second says - "error while loading this content, try later" - well I tried later numerous times and continue to get the same message.  What is my next step??

No, the film will be available for 30 days, but once you start watching it the clock will start running and it will expire after 24/48hrs (depending on location).
You said you rented on Apple TV, which has no accessible storage. When you choose to watch it starts to cache to the small flash drive, which is then flushed when you access another movie (or any other content). Everything is streamed so it will need to load each time. If you want to store any content you need to do so via computer.
Network issues can also contribute to seeing such an error. If on wifi, try ethernet. Make sure DNS is set to auto (settings - general - network). You can also see the status of your network by getting a report (istumbler, netstumbler or similar), to look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks.
Other services use adaptive streaming so they won't be much of an issue.
