I pad beeps three times randomly

I pad started to randomly beep three times only stops when completely shut off.

3 beeps means the RAM is bad or missing. Reseat it or replace it. Or take the system to an Apple store for proper diagnosis and estimate on cost of repairs if it is out of warranty.

  • IMac continuously beeps three times when FireWire HDD is attached

    Hi there,
Whenever I reboot my iMac while my external FireWire HDD is attached to it, it continuously beeps three times in a row. I detach it, and restart the iMac, and voila, it boots again!
Any ideas why it can't boot while my FireWire HDD is attached to it? It doesn't seem to be a RAM issue as is specified here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2674?viewlocale=en_US

It could be a firmware issue with the firewire drive.

  • My HP Pavilion DV7 wont boot up it beeps three times and blinks 1 time

I have been having problems with my HP Pavilion DV7 for the last several months. When I turn it on I get a black screen. It will beep three times and the caps LED will blink one time. When this first started happening I would turn it off and try to turn it on again. Sometimes it would take turning it off and on several times before it would boot up. Now it will not boot up at all. It just does the same thing every time. When I turn the power on I can hear the fan and the beeps and see the light blink but that is all. I have even tried to turn it on in safe mode but still get the same results.

    Hi there @texashunter00
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that your notebook is having trouble booting up properly, and that you are getting a beep/LED code. I am happy to assist you with this.
Assuming the flashing code is a repeating  single flash that would indicate a cpu problem. The beeps are commonly indicating a problem with the RAM. Please see the following, and if necessary reseat the memory cards, and see if the problem remains.
Computer does not start and the LEDs blink or the computer beeps
If after checking through this, you are still having the same beep/led codes, I would recommend you call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

Sorry we are unclear as to the external hard drive and its connection to the TC..
For instance the light that blinks.. is that the TC or external hard disk or what.
Did you try just rebooting / restart the whole network in correct order.. modem.. router / TC.. external drive.. clients with 2min gap between each.
Are you actually running Snow Leopard as the profile states?
    How old is the TC?

  • MacBook Pro Beeps Three Times on Start-Up

I recently got a used MacBook Pro from my uncle, so I would have a laptop for college. When I start it up (with a new Snow Leopard install disc), it beeps three times. I've looked this up to determine it's an issue with the RAM, so I bought a new 8GB stick from OWC, and installed it. It is still beeping three times on start-up.
When I boot without the start-up disc I just get a flashing folder with a question mark in it (no OS found, that's why I need the install disc).
It no longer has a service contract (from early 2011).
Help on why this thing is beeping at me would be appreciated.

What kind of RAM is in the second memory chip slot?
Usually these are sets of two, and matching is best.
•Maximum Memory    16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
    •Memory Slots    2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
Rarely would anyone install only one RAM chip, and
when a computer such as yours can use say, 8GB a
credible path to 8-GB would be two 4-GB/matching.
Or if you had a good 2 or 4 GB chip, it could occupy
the second slot for a slightly uneven workable match.
{What were the two RAM chips removed from the MB/Pro?
    ...At this point, I'd venture to guess they probably are OK.}
And there can be an issue even with RAM of the same
spec numbers, some of them for a PC or iMac will not
do well in an Apple portable, though of similar spec.
However I get the impression there is a hardware failure
at some other point, to include a bad hard disk drive..
A diagnostic is recommended since most usual startup
sequences do not work; so troubleshooting isn't possible
in the sense that most users would be able to at home.
Also a retail Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should be of a
newer version than the one your MacBook Pro shipped
with, since the original system discs would have been
one of two Snow Leopard versions. However being
unable to boot from the DVD and have it run the Mac
the issue may be a logic board failure, if not RAM.
    •Original OS    Mac OS X 10.6.6 (10J3210)
    •Later OS    Mac OS X 10.6.7 (10J4139)
    {specs from http://mactracker.ca database}
Anyway, perhaps another volunteer contributor has
ideas that may work, so I have to go about other
obligations and have to go offline now.
PS: I just noticed your other post, and Recovery
could be helpful, but may rely on the Apple ID
of the previous owner if an older OS X 10.7 or
later was installed & still present in the MB/Pro.
Usually a purchased code was involved in a
new install of Lion, via the Mac App Store while
MacBook, etc was running in SL OS X10.6.8...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Please help!!! Laptop won't come on...just beeps three times!

I took my laptop to the apple store to get the internal ac adapter fixed. When I went to pick it up the guy told me that it might not come on because the battery was drained. So I get home and immediately plug it to charge and try to turn it on, but the fan only came on for a brief moment and I heard the laptop beeps three times. The screen didn't come on or anything. The light on the part you push to open the screen blinks three times as well. I didn't think anything of it at first so I kept it charged for an hour but when I checked on it I noticed it was very hot. I immediately unplugged it and tried to turn it on. Nothing but the beeps and blinking lights. I have tried everything including resetting the pmu. Can someone please help me?

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Return your Powerbook to the Apple store. 3 beeps means there are no good banks of memory found. The blinking sleep LED blinking is part of the boot process, and it blinks the error code the beeps also indicated. FYI, the beeps are:
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable

  • HT5860 Spilled water on MacBook Air 11' 2011. Doesn't turn on instead it beeps three times. What's wrong with it?

I spilled water in my MacBook Air. Not on my keyboard just over it. I dried it as much as I could and at first it wouldn't turn on. Then when I plugged it to charge it it did turn on but then it shut off. The light is green on the cable and instead of turning on it beeps three times then it pauses for a bit and it beeps three times again. What does this mean and what should I do?

It means you pulled electrical power thru a WET computer system and caused compounded damage to what was already damaged.

  • Screen will not come on and the laptop just beeps three times and then pauses then three beeps. Any suggestions?

Having trouble with my MAC Book Pro, when I turn it on the screen does not come on and the laptop beeps 3 times and pauses and beeps 3 times again continuously.

Three beeps indicates a RAM problem.  Take the RAM modules out, clean the contacts with alcohol and install them.  Make certain they are properly seated.
If you have installed new RAM reinstall the original RAM.
    Ciao.

  • PB won't turn on and beeps three times

My mac went to sleep automatically and when I went to wake it it took a while before coming back online. Once online it took about 1 minute before freezing. I held the power button down and it finally turned off. Now when I try to start the computer the sleep light starts blinking and the computer beeps at me two or three times than does nothing. I have removed the battery and tried restarting it with just the power cord and I have fully recharged the battery and then tried starting it yet it always does the same thing. Please help! I am deployed and the powerbook is brand new.

If it beeps precisely three times on startup, it means the Ram hasn't passed the startup test. Either one or both banks are faulty. Try and run the apple hardware test on your restore CD/DVD if you can. Insert the disk, restart, and hold now option (the alt key) and select the apple hardware test volume. You could also open the memory compartment and remove one of the banks, swap them round or reseat the ram (experiment to try and track down the problem).
If you not confident with that, it looks like a call to applecare will be appropriate in any case.

You have some bad RAM in there. Just replace it and it should take care of it.

  • Beeping three times and won't turn on

I have a Mac Book Pro '13. I have experienced this problem 4 or 5 times. Unexpectedly, my computer will shut down either while I'm using it or while its asleep. Then, it will start making 3 beeping noises every 5 seconds. It will not turn on and just gives me a black screen. Every time this has happened to me I have fixed it but differently each time. I have pushed shift+control+option, many other key combinations, and simply by holding the power button for 10 seconds. It turns on after a good time diving into apple forums. I never lose anything on my computer. My computer thinks that it just restarted unexpectedly and asks to send a report to Apple. But, I do not believe that it just "restarted unexpectedly." Basically, I am wondering if there is any way I can prevent this from happening again. I've seen on online forums that I need to reinstall my software and that seems very drastic. Is there any way I can fix this without wiping my computer completely? Thanks!

I would like to add to this problem. This morning (just about 15 min ago) I opened my computer to print something and before even logging in it shuts off. I had 70% battery so it couldn't have died. I turned it back on and it started the same beeping this time. While trying to turn it back on, the fan turns on and it hasn't turned off since. Also my battery says there is no battery available which is odd cause I had battery when I originally opened it. So I have it plugged in right now and its not gaining charge.
This is extremely concerning to me since I am a college student and I have a lot of things on this computer. I also live in an area where there is no apple store near by. The closest is about 2 hours away.
    Any other tips?

  • Powerbook froze shut down, and now will only beep three times but that's al

Please someoneone help me!!!!! I don't know what to do. It froze up on me while online (only checking my email on yahoo, nothing strange or anything) I tried force quiting (and got nothing) then did a force shut down. Now when I start it up I ear three long beeps and that's it. The computer is definitly still on (the front latch button flashes a whole bunch of times every few seconds) and I can turn it off and on again, but the screen doesn't come on, and I can't get anywhere past those three beeps. I'm a poor college kids and can't afford to just go out there and buy a new computer. Please someone tell me what to do. I'm extremely desperate.

3 beeps indicates a RAM problem... do a search on "3 beeps" and you should find a bunch of posts on the topic. Generally, the recommendations are:
    1) check to make sure the RAM is fully seated
    2) remove any 3rd party RAM and see if that helps
    3) if you have two RAM sticks installed, try removing first one, and then the other.
    4) if you only have RAM in the lower slot, there's a known issue with lower RAM slot failure- time to take the PB to the shop.
