I-pad won't unlock, doesn't respond to touch

Hi,
My ipad won't unlock. It doesn't seem to respond to touch at all. It was working fine last night but this morning i can't get passed the unlock screen. No touch seems to do anything.
Things I have already tried include:
restarting by pressing the top key and the home key
updating the software
Any other help would be greatly appreciated. This is very frustrating.
Thank you.

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

In your first post you mention you have done a reset and a restore. Those are the last two processes in the user troubleshooting. If those do not work, then the last thing is to go to the Genius Bar. You say you went to Apple and they opened the phone and re-seated the connectors? That sounds unusual, because if there was a hardware issue, they would replace the hardware. You say you cannot get a replacement, is that because you are out of warranty? An out of warranty replacement is only $199 plus tax. It seems to me since you mention the fact you need to press hard to get the screen to react there is something going on with the hardware. If this problem has been going on for over a year, have you been reporting this to Apple. You say you cannot get a replacement and you are on the second phone, I wonder why they are denying you a replacement. Is there something you are not telling us??

  • Portion of screen doesn't respond to touch

I got my iPod Touch a few months ago and just today I found that about the top inch (almost half) of the screen doesn't respond to touch.
I can't access 'calendar, notes, etc...', nor can i scroll through my songs from the top half or hit the 'back' button.
I tried restarting it, but that didn't work. I don't know if I want to try restoring it because I don't have a backup of all my songs on my computer, and I searched on the internet, and the only PC to iPod program compatible with the iPod Touch is $20.
I purchased the iPod Touch from Amazon.com, so I'm not sure if I will be able to bring it to the Apple Store.
I am not sure what I should do. :/
Any help is very much appreciated!

Go to that website. that's where you can check if the ipod is covered under apple's limited year warrenty. Just type in the your Serial Number and the country where you live and it'll will tell you if it's still covered under the warrenty. And if it is, you can go to the apple store and complain about the problem. They might even give you a new one. hope that helped.

  • 1/3 screen doesn't respond to touch.

After a waiting 2 months to get the tablet fixed in the US (and 40£ spend on postage) the battery on my touchpad was fixed.
Was very happy to see it rendering something again until I've noticed that 1/3 of the screen doesn't work when I touch it.
And it's consistent. If I move it around to portrait and landscapte modes the same area doesn't work.
The device fisically doesn't look damaged. And the image looks ok even on the area that doesn't respond to touch.
I don't think this is a software issue but I don't want to send it back to the states and spend another 40£ and two months to get it fixed without trying other options.
Can anyone help me to try out some other things?
    Thanks.

  • After upgrade to Win 10 ENVY TouchSmart 15-j001tx Notebook PC display doesn't respond to touch

I just upgraded to Windows 10 from 8.1 and after I did, my touch screen doesn't respond or work.  I basically have a non-touch display... ugh I've searched this forum and the hp support for possible drivers but don't see anything.  I've even tried the Win 10 Drivers Update process with no success. Any suggestions?

    Hi ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!
I came across your post about the Notebook, and wanted to assist you! I have looked into your issue about your HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j001tx Notebook and the Touch display doesn't respond to touch after a Windows 10 update. If your computer is having problems finding and installing operating system updates, try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix the problem. Here is a document that shows how to update drivers that are not working correctly with Windows 10. Here is a link to your driver page. I would try the section on Driver -Chipsets. Intel Management Engine Interface Driver should help. Restart the Notebook after the install. I hope something here helps you. Thanks.

  • What should i do if my ipod suddenly starts working slow and/ or doesn't respond to touch all the time?

My ipod touch is brand new. I was playing fruit ninja when a notification popped up saying low battery 20% left. I quit game and put my ipod on the charger. Now it doesn't respond to my touch. I have to tap the numbers to unlock it several times. I can't scroll or tap on any apps. An outline of a box appears around the app if I tap it. Does anyone know how I can fix my problem? I haven't dropped my ipod at all.

    - If iTunes does not see the iPod try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then restore. For recovery mode:

I have no idea what happened. the top half works, so i can listen to music still, but thats all i can do. if i put my thumb sideways in the center of the screen and push down hard, it works. there was already a small crack in the top left corner, but i doubt that has anything to do with it. I purchased a new HP Envy with windows 8.1.64 and a Pavilion 23tm monitor.  I have installed the drivers for the monitor but the monitor still will not respond to touch.  I went online and downloaded the drivers off the HP website just in case they were more up to date than what came with the monitor.  But it still is not working as a touchscreen like it's supposed to.  Any ideas?

  • Iphone 4 has been very slow and sometimes doesn;t respond to touch, anyone have the same problem, also discolouration just behind the battery icon, could anyone help

since update ios 7 my iphone 4 has been giving me trouble. sometimes will not respond to touch, is very slow when texting, and battery runs down very quickly when not in use and all apps are closed, has anyone had the same problem

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • IPod doesn't respond to touch after falling into water

Ok so I dropped my iPod in the toilet, clean water (the classic case).
It happened a few days ago, and I immidiately dried it out and put it in a bowl of rice.
At first, it still wouldn't work, but then after a day or so, everytime I plugged it to the computer, the computer made a sound, So I left it in a bowl of salt (the big chuncks kind).
Now I can turn it on, and it works and looks fine, but it won't respond to my touch. I can't unlock the lock screen, or completely shut it down, because it just won't respond, and still, the buttons work (the turn on button and the home screen button).
It's been in this current situation for two days now, and I would really be gratefull if someone told me what I should do to fix it.
And if it can't be fixed by me, will the people in the apple store be able to fix it?

I would dry it longer. Then

  • IPhone doesn't respond to touch/lags on and off

The most frequent occurance of this is when I try to unlock my phone. Sometimes the response to pressing the lock or home button is slow to bring up the lock screen. When it does come up, lagged or instatneously, sometimes it does not register my touch when i try to slide to unlock or it has trouble following my touch all the way across the screen. (slider will make it halfway and spring back to the starting spot.) This is usually fixed by relocking (turning the screen off) and trying again.
Additionally I've noticed my phone lags in other uses. The most notable is when I'm using the camera. Sometimes I'll take a picture and the "shutter" will stay closed for as many as 20-30 seconds after a picture or when I first open the camera application.
I have other friends and coworkers who have iPhones but the only common denominator is running iOS 5.0.1 (3GS to 4 to 4S) and are having very similar problems.
I've tried opening the task bar and closing programs, but it hasn't really solved the problem.
Open to ideas/suggestions. Or hopefully Apple takes notice of this problem.

First, try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. This usually clears some glitches after installing apps or other software.
If this does not help, try to set it up as new device: How to back up your data and set up as a new device
Try using the backup after that, but, in case you used an old backup to restore from when you started using the 4GS, you imported data causing these problems.
In that case, set it up again as new and start from the scratch.
