I payed $350 to lose my music library!

im so happy i spent my money on a creative zen touch just to have it screw up 3 months after i baught it. somebody needs to fix this problem because "we arent sure why this occurs" isnt good enough. you shouldn't have to format the whole dri've just to get the player to work again. i mean come on people this isnt some small investment... people spend hours and hours looking for music, building their collection and all creative has to say is "unfortunately the only way to fix the problem is to delete everything" i cant believe i thought that if i baught a zen touch i would avoid all of the problems that ipod has. but now i wish i had gone for the ipod. also even though i can load music onto it again after formatting i still have a major problem. the earphone jack is all messed up because i decided to chuck the little crap earphones that came with it and baught some dope sony headphones. but hey what do you expect... just another scam from creative to get you to spend money after ur 3 month warrenty is up... cause they know once u see how many problems u have with the machine u wont buy anything from them again. their only way to get repeat customers is through repairs. anyways that my 2 cents on this joke of a company.Message Edited by hangia on 03-30-2005 0:2 AM

Hi hangia
You seem to have had a bad experience of Creative with your Zen Touch. Looking at a lot of the other posts on this forum there seem to be a lot of complaints about the Touch and the Zen Micro. Maybe Creative have become a victim of their own success - producing too many different products too quickly and without enough development before release.
I have definitely got the feeling that they have treated what should be a hi-fi consumer product as a computer peripheral (which is where their roots lie). Their "customers" are expected to put up with a product that doesn't work properly straight out of the box and needs to be upgraded with new firmware as fixes are developed. Just like their computer products.
I see the release of new firmwares as a bonus that you don't get with a lot of products. As a long-time PC user I have got used to this way of doing things but I could see how a normal consumer could become frustrated by the whole process.
Back to your problem. How come you have lost your music collection? Surely you had a copy of everything on your PC? Again this relates to where you came to this product from. If, like me, it's from the PC side of things, then we are constantly told "Back-up, Back-up, Back-up" so that we don't lose any important information. This has carried over into my music collection - I have my music on my PC, it's also on my JB 20GB and the music I have downloaded as opposed to ripping from my CDs is also copied to a spare hard dri've. Unless my whole house burns down I should always have a copy left somewhere. If the worst did happen I think I'd have a bit more to worry about than my music collection.
Again, if you have expected to treat your Zen as a consumer product that just works (as you are perfectly entitled to do) then backing up your music would not have been something you'd probably think of.
From my POV I think Creative have done a decent job so far - producing regular firmware updates to give fixes and new functionality, and creating these forums so we can express our opinions and seek help from others. I also have a Phillips Digital TV Recei'ver - I know that there is a later firmware with new funtionality because my Dad has it but will they release it so that earlier versions can be upgraded? Will they heck! Is there a forum where I can discuss this with others? Not set up by Phillips there isn't! Because it's a consumer product.
I think there needs to be some movement from both sides on this debate. Creative need to develop their products for longer before releasing them on the public (but then they'd lose out to their competitors), and we need to erase from our minds any thoughts we might have had of this being a consumer product. Perhaps I'd feel differently if I had a Zen Touch/Micro!

    Hi texasslagle,
It sounds like you are having issues installing iTunes on your Windows 7 PC, a frustrating situation I am sure.
There is an article that you may want to use to try to complete your install here -

  • HT1925 Will I lose my music library when I am required to "uninstall" I-tunes ?

Why do I have to "uninstall" I-tunes for it to open? Will I lose my music library when required to do this?

Under normal circumstances, an uninstall/reinstall doesn't touch your content. (That being said, it's still always a good idea to maintain a current backup at all times in case of disasters.)

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Attempting to update itunes, received system error" Program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from computer, try reinstalling the program to fix the problem. Question, I can't access Itunes to backup library, how do I reinstall without loosing music library?

It doesn't matter and doing a manual install will not fix the problem either.  I'm looking for a solution but no luck yet.  I think Apple has given us a bad update.

  • HT4913 If the music library on my iPhone will be deleted when I enable iTunes Match, does that mean that I will not be able to access that music library when I temporarily turn off iTunes Match on the iPhone, e.g., when on the subway & can't connect to Ma

I have subscribed to iTunes Match and have employed it to listen to music on my Macbook Air and iMac.  On these devices it seems to operate by streaming music to the device rather than deleting the device's current iTunes library and downloading songs as they are played from iTunes Match. Not so on the iPhone as far as I can tell. Consequently, to date I have not activated iTunes Match on my iPhone 4S.  I presently have 40-50GB's of music on my iPhone, sync'd from my iTunes music library on my Macbook Air.  I am concerned that if I enable iTunes Match on my iPhone I will lose the music library already on my iPhone, as Apple seems to be representing that once iTunes Match is enabled on the iPhone the current music library, carefully compiled, will be gone from the iPhone forever (unless I later re-sync it from the iTunes library on my laptop), that it will be deleted.  Although this would free up a lot of space on my iPhone, I bought the 64GB phone just so that I could keep a lot of music on it and accessible at all times.  I am concerned that in certain instances, say if I am in the subway and want to listen to music on my iPhone but  don't have internet access below ground, that I won't have much music to listen to, only those songs previously played and thus downloaded onto the phone from iMatch, presenting me witrh a rather limited choice of music to play instead of the 40-50GB's I now have to choose from. Apple seems to have presented me with the choice of the lesser of 2 evils: i) enable iTunes Match and lose the music library already on the iPhone in exchange for access to iTunes Match and a greater number of songs than I can fit onto the phone (my library exceeds the phone's capacity) when a Cloud connection is available or ii) don't enable iTunes match and limit myself to only those songs, a considerable portion of my library to be sure but not all of it, that I can fit in the phone's storage space, i.e., the 40-50 GB's I have on there now.  If I choose the latter course, each time I purchase an album I'll have to delete another album to make room for it on the phone.  Apple thus offers me a sort of Hobson's choice, bad all the way around.  Do I have this right? The Apple techs I've spoken to don't seem to have a handle on the "deletion" aspect of enabling iTunes Match on the iPhone.   Right now, I'm too scared of "losing" my iPhone music library to enable iTunes Match on the iPhone. [Possible work-around, albeit a pain in the ***: I suppose that I can enable iTunes Match on the iPhone and spend the next couple of weeks 24/7 downloading songs from my iTunes Match library back onto the phone to replace at least some of those deleted when Match was enabled, thereby rebuilding a proxy library on the phone itself to play when I'm stuck in a tunnel between Brooklyn and Manhattan while maintaining access to thee larger iTunes Match library, more music than my phone will hold, once we come back into the light and my Cloud connection is restored.] Comments, suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

  • If I uninstall iTunes and reinstall it, will I lose my music files?

    Hi
My Ipod touch (2nd Gen) is not being recognised in itunes. I have gone through the ipod touch assistant, and this has made no difference.
Next try is to uninstall itunes and re-install it. However...will I lose my music library when I do this?
I am also having problems with my external back-up drive which has now stopped me opening it up (I have had it for a year), as it says "I don't have permission to see it's contents" and "files can't be copied onto the backup disk because it appears to be "read-only" - so I am loathe to uninstall itunes if I lose all my music etc....
    Thanks for your help
    Simon

You will not lose any music..
However, you do have a current backup of the iTunes folder and all other important info on your hard drive, correct?

  • How do I restore iTunes music library from ipod(s) and gift card $s?

    Two Questions:
    1) Had to have my hard drive rebuilt due to a major virus issue with my computer. Had to remove all software. Now when I download my new version of iTunes and try to sync my iPod its looking for the previous software iTunes account and wants to either erase or transfer purchases from my iPOD. I do not want to lose my music library on my iPod. What do I do?
    2) How do I get my gift card $s back that I had in my previous iTunes account? I do not have the original cards anymore...

    1) Have you failed to maintain a backup? You should always maintain a backup.
    2) Sign onto your itunes account. The info is still in your account.

    HHHHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!!! PPPLLLEEEAAASSSEEE!!!!!!

You buy one and only one download.
As it should have been transferred to your computer when you synced, you can contact itunes support and ask for an exception.

  • I downloaded version 11 for the itunes library and updated my ipod to ios6, today when I click to open itunes, it wont open and says I need to reinstall itunes. Will I lose my whole music library?

I downloaded version 11 on itunes and updated my ipod to os6, when I try to open itunes now, it says it downloaded incorrectly and won't open. It says to reinstall itunes. Will I lose my whole music library if I reinstall itunes?

you will not loose your content at all. It is still sitting in your hard drive even if you uninstall itunes.
Once itunes will be reinstalled , it will re-sync your stuff on your hard drive
