I phone 4 screen just showing power cord and i tunes logo after doing an update

Tried to do an update on my Iphone 4. Now the only thing showing on my screen is a picture of the power cord and the I-tunes logo. I can't power it off or on. I have tried holding down both buttons but nothing happens.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note:
1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

Expanding on what TheDave said, it's in Recovery Mode. You can try this to get it out of Recovery Mode:
Unplug the device from the USB cable if it's connected. Then hold down the sleep/wake button until it turns off. Let go of the button and then hold it down again until the Apple logo reappears. Let it go and the device may boot up.
This only works, of course, if your device was working properly previously. Otherwise, or if that doesn't get it back to normal operation, you'll need to to try to restore it:

If it won't restore, or if after the restore the iPhone misbehaves, then as Dave indicated it's suffered hardware damage and will need to be taken or sent to Apple. Even if it works now, it's very likely that it will fail in the future as the salt corrodes the device, so getting it replaced now is probably a wise idea since as it is you can't trust it.

I am sorry to hear of your troubles. It appears that you need to connect your phone to iTunes to do an activation and/or restore.
Once iTunes is installed and you plug in your phone iTunes should guide you through the process.

I dropped my iphone 5 on gravel and the glass was all cracked but still working perfectly, the other day i dropped it again inside my house, working fine, but some glass fell out, then this morning I squeezed it a little hard and part of the glass was off, then i pushed it back in and about a quarter of the screen went black, and the rest got darker, and it also would open things and select things on its own, then after it was in my pocket the entire screen turned to black with some green, red and other colored lines on the black, it will still vibrate for messages and when i hold the home button i hear the siri thing. Have you tried creating a backup then restoring the phone as new? If it's still happening on a wiped phone, it's almost definitely a hardware issue that needs to be repaired

It sounds like there's a problem with either the software or hardware of your AppleTV. Try unplugging AppleTV for at least 15 seconds, then plugging it back in. Today I was updating my phone to the newest IOS 7 and after it finished downloading. An error showed up on my screen telling me it was unable to update. So I decided to just unplug my phone and maybe do it later but on my screen I have a USB cord and the iTunes logo asking me to connect. It's in recovery mode. Anything that was on the phone and not already backed up is already gone. You have no choice but to restore.

First, try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely. Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

Hold Sleep Button with Home Button toghether until it restarts Always it takes 8 to 15 seconds, after it restarts leave the sleep button and remember do not leave the home button it automaticlly switches to DFU mode.
